ROMERO, Francisco R. (Chito), 99, passed away February 5, 1999. He was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Alicia A.Romero, and Gloria C. Romero; daughters, Celia Ybarra, and Alicia Figueroa. Chito is survived by sons, Frank A. (Belia) Romero, Jimmy (Terry) Romero, Ramon (Clara) Romero, Frank C. (Manuela) Romero, and Mike (Debbie) Martinez; daughters, Aurora Ybarra, Helen Romero, Antonia (Eddie) Holguin, Margie (Chito) Borboa, Frances Vasquez, Mabel (Ray) Diaz, Rosa (Henry) Bedoy; brothers, Isidoro Romero, and numerous grandchildren. Friends may call at Arizona Mortuary, an aftercare provider, 7 E. University Blvd., Tuesday, February 9, 1999 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be at Holy Family Catholic Church, Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., with burial following at Holy Hope.

WALLACE, William Harper, 73 of Tucson died February 4, 1999. Born May 5, 1925 to Clara Wylte and Frank M' Wallace in Washington, PA. He is survived by his wife, Rosana Coty Wallace; daughter, Holly Beall Wallace; son-in-law, Edwin M. Baum; and granddaughter, Claire Wallace Baum, of NYC. Mr. Wallace graduated from Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, PA. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and was discharged 1st Lt. Navigator. He graduated from the U of A in 1950. And retired to PA where he served as treasurer of Dunbar and Wallace Lumber Co. He returned to Tucson in 1964 and served as UA Director of Student Housing. He had memberships in American Philatelic Society, Postal History Foundation, Tucson Rotary Club, Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Washington, PA and University of Arizona Foundation and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. Memorial Services will be held at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, Friday, February 12, 1999 at 3:30 p.m. with Dr. Roger O. Douglas officiating. ARBUTHNOT, Daniel, 59, passed away at his home on February 3, 1999. A native of Covina, California he moved to Tucson 25 years ago from Michigan. He was the son of Frank Melvin and Meredith Arbuthnot. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; daughter, Meredith Ann (Bryan) Curley of Chandler, AZ; grandson, Ian Curley; brother, Joel (Kathy) Arbuthnot of Gig Harbor, WA; sister, Andrea Durham of Denver, CO. Services will be private. Family suggests memorial contributions to Make A Wish Foundation, 645 E. Speedway, Tucson or Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. University Blvd. Tucson. Arrangements were handled by the family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, (Dodge Chapel).

BAIRD, Larry David, 53, of Tucson, died February 6, 1999. Survived by brother, Gary Baird of Sierra Vista, AZ and his family. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, an after care provider, 5801 E. Grant Rd. where funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11. Burial will follow in East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

BENTLEY, Francisca J., 98, of Tucson, passed away February 06, 1999. Survived by daughters, Pauline G. Romo and Josephine Aguayo; sons, Jesus Silva and Frank (Ophelia 'Chawa') Silva. Also survived by nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 1999 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church, 801 N. Grande Ave. Mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. Francisca brought from Mexico in 1918 the crucifix named 'El Senor De Los Milagros' which had been in her family for over 500 years.It now has a chapel built for it at 314 N. Melwood in Tucson. CRONIN, Robert Francis, 70, died February 7, 1999. Beloved husband of Raphael Cronin; devoted father of Robert, John and Matthew Cronin and his daughter, Mary; loving grandfather of his six grandchildren; also surviving is his cherished sister, Elizabeth Beckman. GEORGE, Lawrence Edward, 77, of Tucson, passed away February 6, 1999. Survived by wife of 47 years, Joaan A. George; daughter, Peg (Mike) Ellis of Tucson; sons, Kenneth (Elizabeth) George of Tucson, Robert (Lisa) George of New Orleans, LA, David George of Boise, ID and Marc (Shawn) George of Las Vegas, NV; brother, James George of Tucson; sister-in-law, Lucy George of Albuquerque, NM; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. George was associated with the Boys Scouts of America for 45 years and was the recipient of the Order of the Arrow Award. He served in the US Army infantry during WWII in Europe. Services were held Tuesday, Evergreen Mortuary with Rev. Yvaughn Boling of Park Avenue Christian Church officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery. Also survived by grandchildren, Alicia G.Gonzalez (Jose Romo), Lupita G. Gonzalez, Audelia G. Gonzalez. HELMSTETTER, Margaret A., 91, died February 6, 1999. Survived by her brother, Fred Helmstetter; sisters, Gertrude Helmstetter, Hattie Drevlow and Luella LeCount. Margaret was a secretary for the 'Lutheran Hour', a radio broadcasting program, for many years. Moving to Tucson after retirement. MOORE, Harold E., 78, of Tucson, died February 4, 1999. Survived by wife, Geraldyne; son, Larry; grandchildren, April, Alex, Chris, Stewart; great-grandson, Brandon all of Tucson; sister, Katie Cooke of Lowell, IN; many nieces, nephews and friends. PENDLETON, Cleo J., 84, of Columbus, Ohio, died February 6, 1999. Mother of Donna S. Landis of Tucson, Sharon R.Forrester of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. Germaine Piery, 47, born December 16, 1952, passed away on February 5, 1999. Preceded in death by Jennie and Albert Piery. Leaving behind four brothers, Albert (Connie) Piery, Frank (Meg) Piery, Lord (Diana) Piery, and brother, Richard (Christina Eng). She also left behind four sisters, Charlene (Wenceslao) Lopez, Darlene Macias, Linda (Freddy) Leyva, Bertha Piery, nine nieces and 14 nephews and close family, dearest friends, Yolanda D. and Raymond S. whom the family would like to thank very much for all they have done for our sister, Germaine. Also survived by many cousins and aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 1999 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Carrillo's Tucson Mortuary, (Center Chapel), 240 S. PRAUST, Estelle, 82, of Tucson, died February 8, 1999. Born May 3, 1916 in Chicago, IL. Survived by one daughter, Jeann (Rick) Valent; son, William (Jeanne) Praust both of Tucson; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial Service Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. Evergreen Mortuary. SCHMITZ, Opal, 78, died February 7, 1999. Wife of Al Schmitz; mother of Aleta (Richard) Ellsworth, Radine (Kenneth) Hughes and Bill (Alice) Cavin; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister of Lois Bonds, Naoma Whittacker and Bobbi Lowe. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9th. Burial will beat a later date in Phenix City, Alabama. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

SCHOFIELD, Dorothy Rideout, the family sadly announces her passing. Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother was a resident of Tucson from August 1931 to the present date. She was born on July 19, 1902 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and married Dr. Chester Alton Schofield in 1924. They resided in Merrill, Wisconsin where he practiced dentistry until they moved to Tucson in 1931. There she, with her husband, Chester, raised their three children. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution and Chapter B of P.E.O and Trinity Presbyterian Church. She served on Barry Goldwater's election committee. She was prominent in many charitable committees throughout the sixty odd years she lived in the city. She is predeceased by her husband, Chester; son, Richard Schofield; daughter-in-law, Elaine Schofield; grandson, Robert John Schofield, Jr.; and sister, Eleanor Rideout. She is survived by her daughter, Miriam Dorothy Bratton; son, Dr. Robert (Barbara) Schofield; grandchildren, Dorothy Wallis Jamieson, Bert Wallis, Jr., Laura Schofield Bailey, Carole Schofield Stevenson, Sylvia Schofield Ford, Christine Schofield Whitacre and James Schofield; nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Graveside Service Thursday, 11:00 a.m. Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, 9:00 a.m. until time of service EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.

THOMPSON, Nelson Conway, 78, died February 6, 1999. In the early morning hours of February 6, 1999, CM Sgt. Nelson C. Thompson, USAF, Ret., passed away following a long illness.
Born in Batesville, Arkansas, on May 2, 1920, he lived a life of dedication to his family and country. Nelson married Wilma Jean Moore on New Year's Eve of 1945 and recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary. He shared with her in parenting their four children, Terilynn, LuMari, Nelson C. II and James Frederick, all of whom survive him along with their respective spouses and children.
His thirty-three years of military service included assignments in the South Pacific with the 39th Fighter Squadron and numerous bases throughout Vietnam, Thailand, Great Britain and the United States. He was stationed at March AFB, CA where he served as Senior Airman Advisor to the Commanding General of the 15th Air Force until his retirement to Tucson, AZ in July of 1974. CM Sgt. Thompson received numerous medals and commendations including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
His loyalty, good humor and dedication will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10th at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

WILKINSON, JR., Montague. Born 1926. Tucson resident since 1937. All Tucson schools, U.S. Naval Air Corps WWII. Grad.U of A 1948. Tucson custom builder twenty-five years. No services will be held. Cremation by Desert Rose Cremation.

WILSON, Dr. Marthann E., 78, of Tucson, went to be with her Lord on February 4, 1999. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ira G. and Alma Wilson and was preceded in death by husband, Ira G. Wilson. Born in New Haven, CT on July 5, 1920, Marthann was educated in New England at Albertus Magnus College. She held a Doctorate in Stress Management from Columbia University. A gifted speaker and an expert in entertaining socially, Marthann was also an artist and painter. She longed to write and had all the skills but time prevented her from pursuing her dream. Above all she was a loving and caring mother. Memorial service will be held at ARIZONA MORTUARY, an Aftercare Provider, 7 E. University Blvd., Wednesday, February 10 at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor John Miller officiating.

Charles W. Wilson - Passed away at Holy Family Center on February 6, 1999, he was 85. Mr. Wilson grew up in Missouri and moved to Tucson in 1932. He retired from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in 1948 where he was a radio technician foreman. After working out of his home for a few years he opened Wilson's Radio and Speedometer Service in 1952 and was it's proprietor until August 31, 1998. He loved to work on his radios and gadgets and was always 'fiddling' with something. He married his life-long companion, Clara Payne in Bisbee 63 years ago this February 15th. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Clara; children, Owen Nugent, Bill Wilson both of Tucson, Frank Wilson of Texas and Charleen (Bob) Ruiz of Tucson; 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and two great-step grandchildren. Friends may call at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, (Dodge Chapel), 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway) on Wednesday, February 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Thursday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum.

CAMPBELL, Keith G., 80, of Tucson, passed away February 9, 1999. Survived by son, Ross (Kathee) Campbell; sister, Patty Bigglestone; grandchildren, Kristen, Brittany and Keith S. Campbell. Keith Campbell was a long time Tucson resident. He graduated from Tucson High School and the University of Arizona with a degree in civil engineering and a Commission as 2nd Lt. In the U.S. Cavalry. During WWII served in the Corps. of Engineers, Quartermaster Corps. and Army Air Corps. After WWII Mr. Campbell earned a degree in Business Administration from UCLA. In 1948 married Nancy Marshall Bibb. After 30 years of dedicated service he retired from Sundt. Corp. He fought the good fight, he stayed the course, he completed the race. Family to hold private graveside service.

COTTEN, Theadora, age 80, of Tucson, died February 5, 1999. A native of Waco, Texas she moved to Arizona in 1948. Funeral service Friday, February 12, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater South Park Church of Godin Christ, 2419 S. Park Ave. Visitation Thursday, February 11 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, (Dodge Chapel), 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway). Family owned Adair Funeral Homes handled arrangements.

DICKINSON, Colleen E. Schindler, 72, beloved wife and mother, passed away February 8, 1999 after a long illness. She will be missed by everyone. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, January 25, 1927 to Harvey and Veronica Schindler, she taught school and worked over twenty years as a counselor at Information and Referral. Colleen was an artist specializing in watercolors and was a member of the Southwestern League of Fine Arts. Survived by her husband, Donald Dickinson; daughters, Ann Dickinson (Dave Yagla), Jean and Jay Dickinson, Ellen (Tom Waters), Mary Dickinson (Tom Ralston), Katie (Steve Manns) and Sheila Dickinson (Damian Hazen); her brother, Patrick Schindler and four grandchildren, Eric, Christopher, Emily and Bridget. She was a devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Parish from its beginning. A Rosary was recited 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10. In Colleen's memory, give your change to a homeless person.

DOE, Jimmie, 68, of Tucson, passed away February 6, 1999. Survived by wife, Elodia Doe; sons, Frank (Donna) and Martin Doe; sister, Elena (John); brothers, George (Ramona), Gilbert, Eddie (Norma). Also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 1999 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Friday, February 12, 1999 at 9:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Jimmie was a police officer for South Tucson for eight years. He worked for the Pima County Highway Department as foreman of the striping truck for 28 years. He leaves his wife of 50 years along with his sons, nephews, nieces and grandchildren and great-granddaughter who will greatly miss him. Arrangements by CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

FUENTES, Bennie Lillian Vaughn O'Neill, 87, died February 8, 1999. Dearly loved and greatly missed wife, mother and friend. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe M. Fuentes and daughter, Darla Jean Ammons West. Mother of Quinta O'Neill Lever Bartels; stepmother of Carla Fuentes Grijalva (Frank Jr.), Myrna Fuentes Dille (George); grandmother of Brocke F. Lever (Doreen), Kyia B. Lever-Lear (Wayne), Shannon K. Ammons (Laura), Shaleen K. Ammons Botting (Tye), Collin T. Ammons, Anna Maria Grijalva Hansen, Maria Elena Grijalva, Ella Ann Dille Johnson, Elizabeth M. Dille, George Dille, Jr; great-grandmother of Kira O'Neill Botting, Quinlan Collin Ammons, Brian C. Hansen, Stephanie Johnson, Spencer Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Scott Kobolt, Melissa Kobolt and Brandon. An open house will be held beginning at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, following the service at 2530 N. Edith Blvd. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 11 at LDS Church, Ft. Lowell Ward, 6150 E. Fairmount with burial to follow at the LDS Church. Friends may call from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.
