LANNING, Carolyn Gevedon, 63, passed peacefully at home June 17, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Barney; daughter, Beth (Mark) Lynch-Diemunsch; stepsons, Jack (Jennie) and Bruce Lanning; granddaughters, Erin and Morgan Diemunsch; grandson, Jake Lanning. Also sister, Kay Abell and aunt, Eileen Barnhart. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. TUESDAY, June 22, 1999 at Swan Funeral Home, 1335 S. Swan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.

WELSH, Ralph F., died June 17, 1999 after a brief illness with brain cancer. He was born October 19, 1925 in Kansas City, MO and lived there and in Oklahoma City, OK many years before retiring to Tucson in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; sons, Greg of Tulsa, OK, Chris of Knob Noster, MO, Keith of Lenexa, KS, Mike of Tucson, AZ and Tim of Tonganoxie, KS; brother, Robert of Kansas City, MO; and sister, Barbara Zachua of Nipoma, CA and grandsons, Drew and Christian of Tulsa, OK. He was a WW II Navy Veteran and a member of American Legion Post 109. In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral services. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

CAMMARANO, Dominick Joseph, 78, died June 18, 1999. Father of Rita Haen of Iola, Kansas; Dennis Cammarano of Baltimore, MD.; Mary Ann Bailie of Plano, TX.; and John Cammarano of Tucson, AZ.; brother of Mamie DaSilva of Toms River, NJ.; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth. He was original chairman and Co-founder of Tucson Fire Fighter's St. Mary's Burn Center and was Secretary-Treasure of Firefighter Union Local 479 for more than 12 years. Also was Past President of Salpointe Boosters Club. He retired from Tucson Fire Dept. after 28 years. Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m., Monday, June 21, at Bring's Memorial Chapel, 236 S. Scott. Mass will be offered 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, at St's Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E. Lee, intermant to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. William A. Campbell, 73, died June 18, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. Survived by wife, Eunice M. Campbell; one brother, Johnny Campbell; two sisters, Jenny Freeman and Donna Rae Stanfield; numerous nieces and nephews. He was employed by American Airlines before retirement, a veteran of WWII and a member of BPO Elks Lodge #385. KOBELIN, Carl, 84, of Tucson, gently passed away June 19, 1999. Born March 28, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY. He was a member of Knights of Pythias and a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran. Beloved husband of Jeanette for 60 years; loving father of Sandra (Charles) Adler and Jay (Midge) Kobelin; brother of Fred Kobelin and Harold Kobelin; grandfather of Morissa, Lori and Mark. Charles R. Merriman, 61, died June 18, 1999, after a courageous fight with cancer. Husband of Patricia Merriman; father of Jesse Merriman of Texas and Teresa of Texas; brother of Jimmy and Calvin both of Texas, Don of Arizona and Richard of Las Vegas and Verna of Texas; 6 grandchildren also survive. He was a Professional Rodeo Cowboy. Charles belonged to IBEW Lineman's Local 769 and was a Journeyman Lineman with TEP working thru Desert Fox until his illness. PACHELBEL, Roberta Lynn, of McGee Ranch, Arizona died Friday, June 18, after a long struggle with cancer. She was the precious wife of Raymond L. Garrison, Jr. and mother of Greg, Chris and Matt and his family Angela and Cameron; beloved daughter of Bob and Jean Pachelbel; sister of Jo Ellen, Rodger and Jan Pachelbel. She was preceded in death by her daughter Joanna. Roberta was born in Kittanning, PA., March 26, 1955 and graduated with honors from Arizona State University School of Nursing in 1978. Roberta possessed a tenacious passion and love for life, family and friends that was matched only by her deep faith in God and Angles. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, at McGee Ranch cemetery near Green Valley, AZ. Friends may call 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, at McGee Ranch Community Center. MARIE A. PALMER - Born in Boston, MA, June 21, 1922, died at home, after a long battle with diabetes. Proceeded in death by husband, Charles C. Survived by son, David (Lise), of Midlothian, TX; daughter, Mary Grace Schubert (John), of Tucson; grandchildren, Angela and Matthew Palmer, and Matthew, Mark and Katie Schubert; sister, Theresa Seegraeber; sister-in-law, Edith Seegraeber of MA; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She will be buried with our father in the National Memorial cemetery in Phoenix, AZ. Mom was very proud of having been enlisted in the Navy during WWII and being a member of the Tucson chapter of the Grandmothers Club. Donations may be made in her name to the Diabetes Foundation.

SIEVERS, William Edward, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather full of compassion, love and humor passed away June 18, 1999. Born on August 19, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa. Bill served in WWII as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division and later was a Captain in the Medical Service Corp. during the Korean War. He received Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Iowa and retired from the National Science Foundation in 1979 after a long and distinguished career. He was a resident of Oro Valley and member of Oro Valley Country Club for 20 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Cheryl; two brothers, George and Bob; and his parents. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Jeanne; his daughter, Suzanne Boyd and her husband Jay of Albuquerque, NM; his son John Sievers and his wife Paula of Guilford, CT; his daughter, Sharon Volak and her husband Tom of Scottsdale, Az; his grandchildren, Stephanie and Edward Boyd and Cateline and Hilary Sievers; and his sister, Jane Kohman and her husband Truman, of Pittsburgh, PA.; and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of the Intensive Care Unit and the Third Floor Cardio-Pulmonary Unit of Northwest Medical Center for the excellent care and tenderness given to Bill. Remembrances may be given to the American Lung Association (1-800-586-4876) and the Beautification Program of Oro Valley Country Club. Arrangement will be private.

SURINA, Leona, died at home in Charlotte, NC on June 14, 1999. Mass was held in Charlotte, NC on June 17, 1999. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22 at Holy Hope cemetery with a reception to follow at the Madonna Chapel of St's Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
A native of Elmhurst, IL, and daughter of the late Franklin and Marie Rumps, she was predeceased in 1985 by her husband, William. A homemaker, Mrs. Surina had attended Elmhurst College. Actively serving St. John Neumann Church in so many ways, she particularly enjoyed her involvement with the Fifty Plus Club. Mrs. Surina also gained great pleasure from reading to the children at Albemarle Road Elementary School, participating in the activities of the Homemaker Extension club and serving as a docent at the Hezekiah Alexander Homesite. Above all else, however, she was devoted to her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Surina is survived by three daughters, Karen (John) Mulford of Tempe, Judy (Jay) Lingle of Charlotte, NC, Christine (Ted) Meiss of Matthews, NC; seven grandchildren, Sean and Justin Mulford, Billy, Devon and Steven Oliver and Valerie and Kimberly Meiss; a great-grandson, Colin Mulford; sister, Delores Cobb of Tucson; and nephew, Jim (Gia) Cobb and children John and Georgia of Tucson.
Memorials may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale St., Memphis, TN 38100. Arrangements by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 327-6341.

COOPER, Harold D., Ret. Col. USAF, died June 19, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. preceded in death by wife, June. Survived by sisters, Ann Carlson of Janesville, Wisc. and Ruth Wilson of Whitewater, Wisc. Harold served as a Weather Observer in the Aleutian Islands during WW II. His career with the military spanned 30 years. A Tucson resident for 29 years after retiring from the Air Force. Private family services were held. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, an aftercare provider.

NAVARRO, Emilia M., 58, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away June 19, 1999. Survived by husband, Samuel Navarro; daughters, Ana Maria (Victor) Acuna, Rosie Loaiza, and Emma Jean (Gilbert) Sandoval; sisters, Amanda (Hector) Denogean, Rosaura Arvizu, Ana Luisa (Jesus) Rodriguez, Sandra Dina (Marcelo) Carrillo, and Alma Angelina (Maria) Zavala; brothers, Homero, Mario (Christina), Eliseo (Cecilia), Ruben (Cecilia), and Martin (Lupita) Montiel. Also survived by five grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 1999 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Thursday, June 24, 1999, 10:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. NYMAN, Joseph C., 76 years old, died Friday, June 18, 1999 in Tucson. Born on October 23, 1922 in Winchester, Mass. He was a salesman for Mining Industry. Survived by his wife, Marie Nyman of Tucson; two daughters, Michelle Jawors of Tucson, Jeanise Jalbert of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons, Joseph Nyman of Houston, TX, John F. Nyman of Galviston, TX, Craig Jalbert of Mass.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Mass will be said Thursday, June 24, 1999, 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo, with burial to follow at Our Lady of the Desert. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, where vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m.

JAMES QUAYLE, 84, died peacefully at home June 18, 1999, surrounded by his loving family and listening to his favorite big band music. Born March 15, 1915 in Flagstaff, his was the 80th recorded birth in Arizona after statehood. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He and Dorotha Thorman were married in Okmulgee, OK, July 6, 1944. He taught electronics at Oklahoma A & M State Tech and was the Okmulgee city inspector until 1958 when the family moved to Tucson. He retired from Tucson Newspapers Inc. in 1978 as Electrical Manager of Production Maintenance. Jim and Dorotha built their retirement home in Lakeside, AZ, where the fishing was good, and lived there until they returned to Tucson in 1992. He was an artist, photographer, outdoorsman, Wildcat fan, a great story-teller and a real character! He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Dorotha; son, Tom; daughter, Rebecca Craig; foster daughter, Sue Crain; loving sons-in-law, Doug Craig and Danny Crain; grandchildren, Jeff and Kassandra Quayle, Danny (Lydia) and Bryon (Stephanie) Crain; great-grandsons, Clayton and Trevor James Crain; brothers, Bruce and Paul; sisters, Harriet Shively and Carmen Combs; stepmother, Ruth Quayle and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry and Max. Private services are pending. Contributions to TMC Hospice would be appreciated in memory of Jim.

LAURA LOWE VALENZUELA - Went to be with her Father in Heaven on Father's Day, June 20, 1999. Born July 5, 1903 in Nogales, and raised in Tubac, Arizona. She was the oldest of 10 children born to the historic Lowe family of Tubac. Following the untimely death of her mother, she took her place to raise her younger siblings and was preceded in death by all, but one. Her pioneer spirit will dwell in us forever as we remember the family stories she lived to share – stories only she could tell. Through her years as a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a friend to many, she inspired us with her sincere devotion to nurture all even to her final days. For when she felt we would all be taken care of, she accepted the Lord's call to her prepared place. Until we meet again, 'Mom' is survived by her cherished daughter, Agnes Angulo; her six adoring grandchildren, Kathy (Frank) Ott, Gabe Angulo, Susie (Tom) Parent, Mary Anne (Bill) Tellor, Jeani (Dave) Sweet and Stephen (Stacy) Angulo. She also will be missed by her eight great-grandchildren, Marie, Ross, Rebecca, Matthew, Bethany, Christopher, Jesse and Patrick. 'Mom' is also survived by her loving sister, Bertha Quihuis; cousins, Oralia Megariz, Alicia Montes, Armida Guibol, Al, Susie and Eddie Camerlin; sisters-in-law, Julia Lowe and Angelita V. Ortiz; brother-in-law, Harold Dakorp and numerous nieces and nephews whom she cared for as her own. The family would like to especially thank J. Johnston, caregiver, and her loving staff who cared for 'Grandma' for the past two months and whose love, care, and support has been a blessing to us all. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 24th at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. ANSPACH, Jr., Paul Parker 78, a resident of Tucson. He was born to Paul Parker Anspach, Sr. and Sylvia Hetzler Anspach on June 17, 1921 in Dayton, OH and raised in China and Korea before the Japanese occupation period. After they and other Lutheran missionaries were expelled, he entered the military and served from 1942-1946 as an intelligence officer and translator for the U.S. Navy. Following WW II, he attended seminary at Wittenberg College, and was ordained a Lutheran minister in 1950. In June of the same year, he married Miriam Ann Lauver in Springfield, OH. The couple traveled immediately to Japan where Reverend Anspach served as a missionary in Kyoto, Nishinomiya, and Isahaya for the next 17 years. During their stay in Kyoto, the Anspachs were blessed with four children, Deborah Ann, Jennifer Lynn, Joel Eric, and Jonathan Paul. Reverend Anspach and his family returned to the United Sates in August of 1967, when he was called to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos, NM. He served as Bethlehem's pastor until 1982, when he returned to Japan to teach English and history at Baiko Women's College in Shimonoseki. He retired in Tucson in 1989 where he has been an active member of the Dove of Peace Lutheran Church. He is survived by daughters, Deborah Anspach and husband, John Hanson of Billings, MT, Jennifer Gillaspie and husband, Barry Gillaspie of Tucson; sons, Joel Anspach and wife, Leesa Lederer of Albuquerque, NM, and Jonathan Anspach and wife, Denise Anspach of Albuquerque; grandsons, Josh Anspach-Hanson and Eric Anspach-Hanson of Billings, and Ian Anspach Gillaspie of Tucson. Surviving siblings include, Carolyn Anspach Sunburn, Phyllis Anspach Thompson, Sarah Anspach Kepple and Thomas E. Anspach. He is also survived by the many families and friends whose lives were both touched and changed through his ministry on two continents.
Memorial services will be held at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church on June 24, 1999 at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, 2501 E. Elm St., Tucson, AZ 85716.

DRICKEY, Jack W., 76 years old, in Tucson on June 18, 1999. Born on December 24, 1922 at West Point, Nebraska. He spent 29 years in the United States Army before retiring to Tucson in 1973. Survived by Judy Drickey-Prohow, Michael Drickey, Adele Montano, John Croswell, James Croswell, Margaret Glasgow, Debra Hebert, Susan Sharifi, Mary Wennersten, Kathleen Wruk, and Barbara Croswell, their spouses and children. He has gone to join his beloved, Beverly.

MARY JANE 'MICKEY' GOBBLE
passed away on June 20, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. Mickey was born on September 12, 1920, in Sunset, AZ, into one of the early pioneer families of Southern Arizona. She was one of eight children born to Jesse and Emma (Harris) Wells and one of twelve born to Emma. Her parents and ten of her sisters and brothers preceded her in death.
Mary was married to James H. Gobble on September 3, 1942 in Lordsburg, NM. A military wife who created a home for her family in many places, both in the U.S.and Germany. Mary was the mother of four children: Sharon Duncan, deceased; Larry Gobble, Benson, AZ; James Gobble, Gilbert, AZ; & Susan Hager, Tucson, AZ; the grandmother of nine: Lori Lopez, Chandler, AZ; Leann Bakke, Prescott, AZ; David Duncan, Benson, AZ; George and Tracy Gobble, Tucson; Tawnya and Wendy Gobble, Gilbert, AZ, Lindsey and Garrett Hager, Tucson; great-grandmother to Phillip and Alexandra Lopez, Chandler. She is also survived by brother, Frank Wells, Sumter, SC, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was retired from Sears after 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, arrowhead hunting, playing cards and her family.
A memorial open-house will be held on Saturday June 26, 1999 at 9400 E. Pikes Peak Dr., between 1 and 4 p.m. The family requests no flowers please.
