VICTORVILLE - Loyd Seals, 72, of Grants Pass, Ore., died June 22, 2001, at home of complications of leukemia. Born in Dierks, Ark., on March 1, 1929, he lived in Victorville for 29 years. Loyd graduated from Victor Valley High School in 1949. He worked for Desert Pipeline and Southwest Gas. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a wonderful person and will be missed by everyone who ever knew him. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ginger; sons, Larry (Cheryl), David (Chris), all of Grants Pass, Ore.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Opal Pinkerton of New Hope, Ark., Aline Coffman and Eunice Colvin of Victorville; two brothers, Seldon and Bill, both of Victorville. A memorial service was held Sunday, June 24, 2001, in Grants Pass, Ore.

VICTORVILLE - Richard R. Smith, 73, died May 31, 2001, at St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley. Born in Long Beach, he lived in Victorville for 30 years. He was a longtime resident and teacher of Victorville and Apple Valley, a Boy Scout Leader for many years and also a writer. He is preceded in death by his parents Jean W. and Raymond J. Smith of Apple Valley and brother Jack W. Smith of Camarillo. He is survived by sister-in-law Anna-Maria Smith of Camarillo; niece Ursula Sorensen of San Diego; grand niece Tammie Mirkay and great grand niece Erika Mirkay both of Linden, Va. and several cousins. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Victor Valley Memorial Park 15609 11th St., in Victorville. Victor Valley Mortuary is handling arrangements.

VICTORVILLE - Ruby Ilene Stitch, 77, died June 17, 2001. Born Oct. 1, 1923, in Denton, Texas, she lived in Fontana for three months and was a Victorville resident for 11 years. She was member of First Assembly of God, taught Sunday school for 30 years, and was a foster parent for 25 years. She is survived by daughter Debra Kay Bias of Chino; sons Ronald Paul of Victorville, Samuel Edward of Whittier and John Thomas of Ontario; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kern Memorial Chapel, 14444 Seventh St. in Victorville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the same location. died June 19, 2001, at his Victorville home. Born in Yale, Okla., he lived in Victorville for 30 of his 63 years in California. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving from 1943 to 1970 as chief quartermaster, then worked as a sexton for St. Timothy's Episcopal Church and school for 15 years. He was a member of St. Timothy's, VFW post 9410 in Adelanto and of the Fleet Reserve in Seal Beach. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, June of Victorville; sons Charles E. of Sawanee, Ga., Bryce of California, Robert Jr. and Joseph M. Davis, both of Apple Valley, Ralph "Skippy" Van Buskirk of Highland and Chester Feduniewicz of Bayonne, N.J.; daughters Lana Hutchings of Riverside and Carol Feduniewicz of Bayonne, N.J.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grand children. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Victor Valley Mortuary Chapel,15609 11th St. in Victorville. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 15757 Timothy Road in Apple Valley, with Father Peter Browning officiating. Trumpler; daughter Sandra Kinsey; grandsons David Trumpler, Daniel Trumpler and Shaun Kinsey; granddaughters Eugenia Reed, Michelle Trumpler, Rachel Trumpler and Devon Kinsey, and great-granddaughter Lauryn Reed. Visitation is from 5 to 8:30 p.m. May 13, at Rose Hills Mortuary, Stateroom, 3888 S Workman Mill Road, Gate 1 in Whittier. Services are 1 p.m. May 14. died on June 8, 2001, at Jerry Pettis VA Hospital in Loma Linda from congestive heart failure. Born in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, he lived in Victorville for 10 of his 21 years in California. He retired from Warner Brothers after 10 years, was an U.S. Army Veteran with the 127th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, was a veteran of war, and belonged to the American Legion, Borinquen Post 508. He is survived by his wife Nydia Esther Villafala of Victorville; daughters Yolanda Maria Van Riper of West Milford, N.J., and Cynthia Michelle Sutton of Downey; sons Edward Villafala of Modesto, Thomas Villafala of Azusa and John Villafala of Hampton, Va.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11:45 a.m. Friday at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, staging area four. Alternative Funeral Services in Victorville is handling the arrangements.

Born in Walnut, Mi., she lived in Citrus Heights for 2½ years and in the Victor Valley area for 38 of her 42 years in California. She was a teacher with The Victor Valley Union High District for 20 years. She taught history at Hook Junior High School. She belonged to AAUW University Women, Retired Teachers Organization, attended Holmes Junior College in Goodman, Mi., Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Mi., and earned got her degree from the University of Redlands in Redlands. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Joseph C. Wilson Sr. and daughter Diane Wilson Sommer both of Citrus Heights; brother C.H. Frederick of Mississippi; sister Catherine Frederick of Ohio; grandsons Chip and Michael Sommer of Citrus Heights and Joe Wilson of Apple Valley; granddaughter Carrie Wilson of Apple Valley; son in law Charles Sommer of Citrus Heights; and daughter in law Gayle Wilson of Apple Valley. She will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved her. She will be missed. WRIGHTWOOD - Robert Vernon Elswick, 62, died June 2, 2001. Born in Springfield, Ill., on March 11, 1939, he has been a Wrightwood resident since 1978. He retired in 1994 after 36 years with Armstrong World Industries. Since his retirement he had started a firewood business in the Tri Community. He kept a lot of Wrightwood warm in the winter months. A faithful husband, a loving and devoted father, a man with the patience of Job. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors. He leaves behind his mother Mildred Elswick of Wrightwood; a married daughter Tracy Burke of San Pedro; sons Robert Gregory, 21, Jamie Darren, 14, Brandon Lee, 10, Tyler Thomas, 6; daughters Crystal Dawn, 23, and Jessica Robin, 18; grandson Zackary Hatheway, 6, and former wife of 24 years Teresa Jean all of Wrightwood. YERMO - Jamie Hope Greeson, 53, a 35-year resident of Barstow and Yermo, died on Monday, June 11, 2001 in Yermo. Mrs. Greeson was born on April 16, 1948 in Detroit. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Alvin Greeson, and son, Timothy Greeson, of the home; her mother, Lorraine Mitchell of Barstow; daughters Terri Greeson of Barstow and Donna Shaver of Washington; daughter Mary Shaver-Davila, son-in-law Richard Davila and grandson Ricardo Davila of Barstow; two brothers, James Wright of Davenport, Wash., and Charles Williams of Arizona; and two sisters, Carol Clark and Cindy Jonas, both of Barstow. Out-of-town guest and close friend Arleen Reed-Powell of Haviland, Kan., was well as Mary Spradlin, Bea Lockridge and Mary Wright were with Mrs. Gleeson at the time of her death. Services are pending. The family is requesting memorial donations to Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Road, Barstow.

YERMO - William Robert "Papy" Pettit, 82, a nine-year resident of Yermo, died on June 16, 2001 in Barstow. Pettit was born Sept. 11, 1918 in Okeema, Okla., and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years, retiring as a master sergeant. He was a long-time Barstow resident who served as a police officer with the Barstow Police Department for 16 years. Pettit was a former resident of Yucaipa for seven years, a member of Barstow Elks Lodge No. 1920 for 41 years, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 797 in Yermo. He was an adjutant with the American Legion and was the parks commissioner with the community services district. He liked fishing. Pettit is survived by his wife, Marie Pettit of Yermo; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Robert Moore of Cibola, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sally Parker of Bullhead City, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Valery Parker of Barstow; son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Parker of Apple Valley; grandson Daniel Chapman of Madrid, Ind., granddaughter Kalissa Maki of Wolfford Heights, Ca.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mead Mortuary Chapel, 36930 Irwin Road. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2001 at Mead Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Road.
