Rita Ehret

Rita Ehret, a longtime Winters resident, passed away on Dec. 9, 2004, at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis. Born on Sept. 16, 1916 in Los Gatos, to Louis and Rita Szekeres. She was 88 years old. Rita graduated from San Jose High School and later attended Stanford University where she graduated Com Laude. She worked for many years as the Society Editor for the Salinas Journal. She enjoyed photography and entered her photographs in numerous photography shows. In 1950, she married Relph Ehret at the Stanford Memorial Chapel. She was preceded in death by Relph. Friends were invited to attend a graveside funeral service on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Winters Cemetery, 415 Cemetery Drive, in Winters. Reverend Mary Lynn Tobin from the Davis Community Church officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Funeral Chapel.

EHRKE

Alice Marie Ehrke

Alice Marie Ehrke died on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at age 85.

Born May 25, 1917, in Woodland, Mrs. Ehrke was lifelong resident of Yolo County. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1934 and attended Business College. She worked as a secretary for the Yolo County District Attorney's office for 30 years. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Ehrke and wife Janice, William Ehrke and wife Netty and Jim Ehrke and wife Karen, all of Woodland; grandchildren, Garth Ehrke and wife Tina, and Dianne Ehrke, also all of Woodland, Jahm Ehrke of Chico and Krista Ehrke of Woodland; great-grandchildren, Jake and Gwen Ehrke of Woodland; brother, Carl Schneider and wife Jane of Woodland and sister, Agnes Farnham of Auburn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin E. Ehrke in 1992; grandsons, Sam Ehrke and Brett Ehrke; and brother, Joseph Schneider.

The family requests memorials be directed the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

Services: Vigil is scheduled at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at McNary's Chapel, Woodland. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Woodland, with a burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Woodland.

EICHERT

Frederich Frank Eichert, Jr.

Frederich Frank Eichert, Jr., of Davis died Oct, 13, 2005 peacefully at home surrounded by his family, following a long battle with lung cancer. He was 84.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St., with a visitation one hour prior to services. A private interment will be in the Davis Cemetery.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1921 in Los Angeles to Frederich and Bernadette Ouelette Eichert. He graduated from Riverside High School and attended Santa Monica Jr. College and UCLA.

He worked in management at Douglas Aircraft Company in Santa Monica for eight years. It was during his employment there that he met and, in 1944, married Scotty Page.

He later worked for 34 years in management of electro-mechanical design and drafting at Sandia Lab in Albuquerque, N.M., and Livermore.

His family said he served on national and international committees relating to engineering and drafting presenting the first American papers on the subject at an international meeting in Moscow in 1967.

He was involved in many community service organizations. He served as president of the Cerebral Palsy Association of New Mexico and with the United Fund Drive at Sandia Labs. He was also active in his church activities, serving as a deacon and treasurer for the University of New Mexico Bible Chair and the Albuquerque Children’s Home.

In 1988 he and his wife retired in Davis, where they could be near their son and his family. He compassionately cared for Scotty for several years following a stroke, his family said.

Many people will fondly remember him for his ability to make people smile, his family said.

Scotty, his wife of 52 years, preceded him in death, in 2000. He was also preceded in death by his brother Bill and daughter Patricia.

He is survived by his son Bill Eichert and his wife Jeane of Davis; grandchildren Will and his wife Liza of Occidental and Laura and her husband Mike of Texas; great-grandchildren Chelsea, Shonni, Trey and Nathan; sister Barbara Saxton of Henderson, Nev.; nieces Nancy Dehemmer and Susan Paradise and nephew Bill Gleason; three great-grandnephews and two great-grandnieces.

Donations in the name of the deceased may be made to the Yolo Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.

EIS

Elinor Lundgren Matter Eis

Elinor Lundgren Matter Eis passed away unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the age of 79.

She was born on July 6, 1924 in Eagle Bend, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Elmer Lundgren and Vandela Peterson Lundgren. She was raised in Eagle Bend where she graduated from high school. The past forty-nine years she resided in Woodland, California. Since being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1962, Elinor persevered by furthering her education earning her Associate of Arts degree in business management, working full time and raising her family. She retired from Social Services in 1992 to play bridge, travel and volunteer her time. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, was a long-time member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization and was named Woman of the Year in 1990, and was a member of the Woodland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Yolo County Historical Society. She enjoyed music and especially enjoyed the "old time fiddlers" that frequented the local mall.

Elinor was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Vandela, sister Geneva and husband Bill Einerwold. Survivors include her daughters Cheryl Fowler and husband Michael of Vacaville, Michele Timko and husband Larry and son Barry Matter and wife Elizabeth, all of Woodland; grandchildren Tom Lytle of Dixon, Traci Shera and husband Steve of Guinda, Ryan Fowler of Tahoe City, Laura Matter of Daly City, Staci Gonzales and husband Steve, Andrew Timko and wife Shelly, Lenore Timko, Sarah, Scott and Michael Matter, all of Woodland; great-grandchildren, Ashley Olstad, Brandon and Austin Lytle, Lizanne and Makayla Shera, Connor Gonzales, and Mason and Kayla Timko. Also surviving is her sister Maybelle Wheeler and husband Lloyd of Grand Island, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorials to be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 23664, Oakland, Ca. 94623-0664, or the charity of the donor's choice.

It was Elinor's wishes that her remains be donated to the School of Medicine, University of California, Davis for purposes of medical education and research. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ at 434 Cleveland Street, Woodland, Ca.

EISENHART

Sheryl Faye Eisenhart

Sheryl Faye Eisenhart died in Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento Thursday, July 18, 2002, at age 52.

Born March 15, 1950, in Sacramento, Mrs. Eisenhart was the daughter of the late James D. and F. Marian Arterbury. She was a resident of Woodland for 45 years. She was a homemaker all of her adult life and recently worked at Target. When her son was involved in sports, she was active with the Babe Ruth League and Junior Bowling League. According to her family members, "she enjoyed reading and loved to go fishing."

Mrs. Eisenhart is survived by his son, Jason Eisenhart of Woodland; sister, Lenna Slater and husband Bob of Woodland; nephews, Stephen Slater of Woodland and Tim Slater and wife Monika of Susanville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eisenhart, in May 14, 1991.

A graveside service is scheduled at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

ELDRIDGE

John H. Eldridge

John H. Eldridge passed away at his residence in Winters on Aug. 30, 2005, following a lengthy illness. He was 84 years old. John was born on Sept. 11, 1920 in San Mateo, to Herbert and Nora (Hardeman) Eldridge. He later married Honoré I. Rowley.

John served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an avid fan of sporting events, particularly football and rugby, which he loved to play. He had been employed with Pacific Bell Communications and retired following 40 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and also of the Farm Bureau. He loved his dogs and his many animals. John had a deep love for his family and his grandchildren had a very special place in his heart. He was an all around good guy and he befriended many.

He is survived by his wife, Honoré Eldridge; sons Michael Eldridge (Alison); and Sean Eldridge (Rosalynd), all of Winters; grandchildren, Jeremy and Dennis Eldridge, of Sacramento, Jessicca and Ciera Eldridge, and Bridgette Eldridge, of Winters; one great grandson, Devin Eldridge, of Sacramento.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Steven Eldridge; brother, Walter Eldridge, and sister, Frances West.

A Rosary will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 301 Main Street, Winters. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Sept. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with interment to follow in the Winters Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.

ELFRINK

Virginia 'Ginger’ Elfrink

Virginia "Ginger" Elfrink died in her Woodland home Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at age 64.

Born Feb. 6, 1938, in Woodland, Mrs. Elfrink had lived here all of her life. She was a bank teller for Bank of America for 38 years. According to her family members, "She enjoyed hunting and fishing, along with her vegetable and rose gardens."

Mrs. Elfrink is survived by her husband, George Elfrink of Woodland; stepdaughter, Stacey Elfrink of Roseville; stepson, Gary Elfrink and wife Michelle of Woodland and stepgranddaughter, Skyler.

She is also survived by her cousins, Ron and Rae Kuhn of Woodland, Darrell Kuhn of Hayward, Billy Tunstall of Esparto, Jim Tunstall, Bobby Tunstall, Henry Tunstall, Lucille Webb and Dona Rice, all of Woodland.

Mrs. Elfrink was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Barnett and Iva Stice Barnett; husband, Ron Rumsey; stepsons, John Rumsey, Ron Rumsey and Chris Rumsey.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland.

A funeral service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, also at McNary's Chapel, with a burial to follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

The family requests memorials be directed to The University of California San Francisco Transplant Center, 505 Parnassus Ave., S.F., 94143; Kaiser Hospice, 2025 Morse Ave., Sacramento; or the American Cancer Society.

McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
