Ana Rosa Fletes de Gonzalez

Ana Rosa Fletes de Gonzales died in Stockton, Thursday, July 10, 2004, at age 39.

Born Nov. 24, 1964, in Woodland, Mrs. Gonzalez had been a Yolo County resident for 36 years. She graduated from high school and Western Career College. She was a team leader of Escaramuza Charca.

Survivors include her husband, Ramiro Gonzalez; son, Ramiro Gonzalez Jr.; mother, Maria Elena Soltero; sisters, Maria Elena Fletes, and Sara Balderas; brother, Jose Arturo Fletes; nieces, Veronica Garcia, Sofia Medina, and Ana, Rosh, Lorenn and Eli Benavidez; nephews, Victor Medina, and Jesus Orozco; numerous aunts; uncles; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Fletes Sr.; and brother, Isaac Fletes Jr.

The family requests memorials be directed to Ramiro Gonzalez Jr. Trust Fund, Yolo Federal Credit Union of Woodland, Acct. No. 55217S1.

Services: A vigil is scheduled at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The funeral mass is scheduled to be said at 11 a.m., also at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

DE LOS SANTOS

Laura Charity De Los Santos

Laura Charity De Los Santos died as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Madison Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at age 29.

Born Feb. 13, 1974, a native of Woodland, Ms. De Los Santos was the daughter of Alfredo and Deborah Ann (Wulff) De Los Santos of Winters. She was a resident of Yolo County in her entire life.

Survivors include her daughters, Raven and Aliyah Alvarez; son, Blake De Los Santos; sister, Justine De Los Santos of Winters; grandparents, Hal and Elaine Wulff of Arbuckle; grandfather, Eugene Jimenez of Winters; and numerous aunts; uncles; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Carmen Jimenez.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.

Services: A memorial service celebrating the life of Ms. De Los Santos is scheduled at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2003, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 435 Anderson Ave., Winters. Friends and family are invited to attend.

DeMARIA

Dennis DeMaria, Jr. (1st of 2 obituaries)

Dennis DeMaria Jr., a life-long resident of Woodland, passed away at his home on Sept. 27, 2005.

Dennis was born and raised and spent his entire life working in Woodland.

He attended Holy Rosary Academy and Woodland High School.

He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1938.

He worked with his father in their men's shoe store on Main Street and subsequently became a life insurance agent for Northwestern Mutual Life where he excelled, becoming a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table and was appointed a district agent for Northern California.

He served on the Board of Sacramento Life Underwriters Association and was awarded the outstanding agent in the Sacramento Agency of the Life Underwriters Association in 1971, 1975 and 1978.

He was always involved with the town he loved so much.

A few of his many accomplishments include helping to establish the Yolo County Horseman's Association and serving as its first president; helping to establish the Yolo County Taxpayer's Association, serving as its first president; he was a member of the local school board from 1981 to 1983; he helped organize the first Woodland High School homecoming and parade.

He was a member of the Woodland Elks Club, Yolo Fliers Club and the Sutter Club of Sacramento.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Pauline DeMaria.

He is survived by his second wife, Margaret; three children, Diane Mengali of Davis, Denise Lewis of Woodland and Anthony DeMaria of Guinda.

He leaves five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

All donations should be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Services will be held at Holy Rosary Church on Friday at noon.

Dennis DeMaria Jr., died at his home on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005 at age 89.

Mr. DeMaria was born Aug. 19, 1916 in Woodland.

He was a life-long resident of Woodland.

Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon today, Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery following the Mass. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

De MARIA

Pauline M. De Maria

Pauline M. De Maria died on Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at age 84.

Born Dec. 7, 1918, in St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. De Maria had been a Yolo County resident for 67 years. She was a member of the daughters of American Revolution; attended College of Holy Names San Francisco, Lone Mountain.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis De Maria; daughters, Diane Mengali of Davis and Denise Lewis of Woodland; son, Anthony De Maria of Benicia; brother, James Cox of LaFayette; grandchildren, Elizabeth Lewis and Anthony Mengali, both of Woodland, Brendon Mengali of San Francisco, Kathryn De Maria of Wisconsin, and Michelle Flowers of Rocklin; and great-grandchildren, Jonathon and Kristen J. Flowers, both of Rocklin.

The family requests memorials be directed to California Alzheimer's Association; and Yolo Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

Services: A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Woodland.

de ROPP

Kathleen E. de Ropp

Kathleen Elizabeth "Betty" de Ropp died of leukemia Feb. 8, 2004, at St. John's Retirement Village in Woodland. She was 79.

She was born Betty Knowlman on July 29, 1924, in Finchley, England. After high school she completed a course in horticulture, and then worked as a gardener at Kew Gardens during World War II. There, she met her future husband, Robert S. de Ropp.

She emigrated to the United States, where she married Robert and built a life with him first in Rocklin County, New York, and then in rural Sonoma County, endeavoring to live simply off the land.

She was an avid gardener, and she and her husband grew fruits, vines, vegetables and even wheat, in addition to many ornamental plants. She also raised chickens and helped process her husband's ocean fishing catches. Every harvest season was followed by a massive canning and freezing production. She was known for her wonderful meals and desserts, made from scratch using homegrown ingredients, her family said.

She supported her husband, a scientist and author, by typing his numerous book manuscripts and showing hospitality to his many students and visitors.

She loved poetry, classical music, good humor, sweets, giving gifts and exchanging letters and phone calls with friends.

She spent her final years in Yolo County in order to be near her son Jeffrey and his family and receive assisted living care.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by a sister, Barbara Kimber, and a brother, Brian Knowlman, both of England, and four children, James de Ropp of Knoxville, Tenn., Susan Huntsman of Havelock, N.C., Sally de Ropp of Blauvelt, N.Y., and Jeffrey de Ropp of Davis. She is also survived by seven grandchildren.

A private memorial service is planned.

DEAKIN

Monte LeMoyne Deakin

Monte LeMoyne Deakin, a local plumber for 35 years, died Jan. 7, 2006. He was 60.

Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Davis Christian Assembly.

Born in Clearfield, Penn., Oct. 7, 1945, he was married to Judith Ann Kozivra for the past 30 years.

His hobbies included collecting Civil War artifacts and antiques, as well as hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Chester Deakin Sr. and Virginia Mae Pelton; and a son, Scott Deakin.

He is survived by his wife, Judy of Davis; his children, William Chester Deakin of Utah and April Ann Deakin of Davis; his siblings, Douglas Deakin of Woodland, Joan Whyel of Vacaville, and Sandra Hylton of Ocala, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

D'ANTONIO

Debra Jo (Piazza) D'Antonio

Debra Jo (Piazza) D'Antonio of Woodland died at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at age 47.

Mrs. D'Antonio was born May 14, 1958 in Sacramento to Donald and Olga (Musso) Piazza. She had been a Yolo County resident for seven years. She received her bachelor's degree from CSU Sacramento and had worked in the communications field. For the last three years, she was employed as a customer service representative for Comcast Communications and previously had worked for Sprint Communications for five years. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Survivors include Mrs. D'Antonio's husband of 13 years, Vincent L. D'Antonio and her daughter Gina D'Antonio, both of Woodland; her brother, Dana Piazza and his wife Katrina of Montclair, Va.; her stepmother, Elizabeth Piazza of Sacramento; and three nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Antonio's name be directed to the Benevolent Account College Trust in the name of Gina F. D'Antonio, Acct. No. 1882305569, c/o Washington Mutual Bank, 1224 E. Gibson Road, Woodland, 95776; 330 E St., Davis, 95616; or any other branch.

Services: A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland with Deacon Ed Kull officiating. Visitation will follow from 10 to 11 a.m. with interment following at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.
