SCOTT

Walter E. Scott

Mr. Walter E. Scott, CM Sgt. USAF Retired, passed away at home in Dixon on December 26, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wenatchee, Washington on Oct. 17, 1932. He was 73.

Mr. Scott retired from the US Air Force in 1979 after 31 years of service to his country. He owned and operated the Dixon and Winters Travel Agency’s for 16 years finally closing the doors at the Dixon Agency in 2003 due to his illness. He loved to travel and had been all over the world. He also loved classical music, opera, stage plays and musicals. He liked working in the yard and home projects.

Mr. Scott belonged to several organizations including theAir Force Association, Air Force Sergeants Association (International President 2 terms), Professional Loadmasters Association, Travis Air Museum. Aerospace Education Foundation (President and Chairman of the Board), Masonic Order ( Athena Silveyville Lodge #201), Shriners (Afifi), Eastern Star (Golden Valley #60 - Davis Suisun #2 - Fairfield, National Sojourners, Inc. American Legion, He also served on SARB (School Attendance Review Board), Friends of Maine Prairie High School Faculty, and many other Civic organizations.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rebecca L., daughter Ruth Ann Scott Redmon, sons Walter E. Scott, Jr. and wife Hilda, and Robert Gordon Scott. brother Donald E. Scott, Three grandchildren, Stephen Robert Scott, Kenneth Ryan Scott, and Robert Edward Scott, and one great-granddaughter Shelby Scott.

Walter will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family would prefer any contributions be made to Cancer Research or Heart Research.

A memorial service was held for Mr. Scott on Saturday, January 7, 2006, 1 p.m. at Dixon Community Church with Rev. Frank Salamone officiating. Inurnment will be at the VA National Cemetery, Dixon in June 2006.

SCRIMGEOUR

Barbara Balis Dexter Lohse Scrimgeour

Barbara Balis Dexter Lohse Scrimgeour, of San Rafael, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at age 84.

Mrs. Scrimgeour was born on Oct. 25, 1917, in Montague. She graduated from Woodland High School and married John S. "Jack" Lohse of Woodland, where she lived until moving to San Rafael in the late 1960s.

Family members report that her family was a great source of happiness. She also had a love of nature, especially animals.

Mrs. Scrimgeour is survived by her husband of 33 years, William Boyer Scrimgeour Jr. of San Rafael, her daughter, Elisa Karen Warford of Woodland; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Wendy and Steve Cooper of Sacramento and Shelley and Robert Day of Woodland; nine great-grandchildren, Jason and Andrew Hall, Erica and Jacklyn Roach, Adrienne, Kristina, Jennifer and Brendan Day and Cody Cooper; sister and brother-in-law, Bethel "Betsy" and Pete Cunningham of Monte Sereno; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Tom and Anita Scrimgeour of Yuba City; sister-in-law, Barbara Scrimgeour Hamilton of Galveston, Texas; nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Alla Dexter, brothers, William and Robert Dexter, sister, Marjorie Stanley, stepson, Brad Scrimgeour, and stepdaughter, Candace Glenn.

There will be a private Celebration of her life held in August. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the SPCA.

HENDERSON

Ray D. Henderson

Ray D. Henderson died at his home in Sun City Monday, March 7, 2005 at age 88.

Mr. Henderson was born May 8, 1916 in Tolbert, Texas to James Lee and Emma Clara Henderson.

He is a graduate of Kelton High School. After graduation, he became a farmer then moved to California.

He worked for A.W. McCaughan's grocery store and service station and at the Ford dealership in Alturas.

He bought the Chrysler and Plymouth dealership under the name of Henderson Motor Sales and later bought the Chevrolet truck and automobile agency.

During World War II, he purchased heavy earth-moving trucks and went to Richmond where he contracted to move earth at the Kaiser shipyards.

After the war, Cranston Bros. of Woodland sold their implement business to Mr. Henderson. The sale included International Harvester and truck franchise that covered Yolo and Colusa counties. He also sold Tucker and Packard automobiles. In a change of career, he became vice president and manager of the commercial and ranch department for MacBride Realty in Sacramento and later partnered with Jack Richey to open Real Estate Inc. He and a group of investors purchased the Cameron Park community and developed the concept of "airport" homes. Also he partnered with PGA Professional Arnold Palmer and built the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy. He also developed the resort community of The Dream of Jackson Highway.

In Murieta, he and the Operating Engineers Training Center have accounted for nearly all of Murieta's earth-moving improvements, including three major dams. Mr. Henderson built two championship golf courses; a 40, 000-square-foot private country club; an equestrian facility; an FAA-approved airport; five lakes; a business conference center and lodge. He and his sons developed "SunRay Plaza, " a commercial shopping center in Citrus Heights anchored by Tom Thumb Market.

Mr. Henderson was a 32nd degree Mason in the Modoc Lodge in Alturas, and a member of the Elks, Rotary and Shriners Ben Ali Temple. He was a member of the Yolo Fliers Club, The Sutter Club and the country clubs of Cameron Park, Del Paso and Rancho Murieta.

Survivors include Mr. Henderson's wife, Debbie; his sons, Ron and Marty and his wife Sue; his granddaughters, Kim, Kelly and her husband Paul, Karen, Jenny, Kendal and her husband Arun, Emily and her husband Marcus and his great-grandchildren, Maddie, Katie, Ethan, Shea and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie.

The family requests memorials in Mr. Henderson's name be directed to Pleasant Grove Community Church, 1730 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville, 95747 or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3105 Fite Circle, Suite 101, Sacramento, 95827.

MILLER

Frankie Lois Miller

Frankie Lois Miller died of cancer at the UC Davis Medical Center Thursday, June 3, 2004.

Born June 30, 1926, in Herried, S.D., Mrs. Miller graduated from Galt High School in 1944 and attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Ore. She was an active band, playing the flute and being an accompanist on the piano and organ. She married in 1945 in Galt. They resided in Martinez from 1946 to 1952 where she worked for Contra Costa County. In 1952 they moved to Linden, and then to Woodland in 1956. She was an organist in the First Christian Church. She worked for Harry Ackley, and Purtell and Hoppin in Woodland as legal secretary; Dahl, Heffner in Sacramento and finally Bogle and Gates in Seattle when she retired in 1985. After retirement they returned to Lake Almanor.

Survivors include her husband, Marion E. Miller of Lake Almanor; daughter, Clarice Martin and husband Bob of Davis; son, Jerry Miller and wife Karol Miller of Suisun; grandchildren, Derek and Stacey Duncan, Kara and Greg Casey, all of San Jose, Lisabeth Martin of Sacramento, Molly Martin of Santa Barbara, Megan and Richard Kozma of Cassleberry, Fla., Stacey and Sherwood Hill of El Paso, Texas, Darrin Miller of Vacaville; and great-grandchildren, Kaylest Kozma and Mackenzie Duncan. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrl Quaschnick; siblings, Clarice Fenske, and Pete, Robert, Roy, and Kathleen Quaschnick.

The family requests memorials be directed to American Cancer Society; or the Lake Almanor Peninsula Fire Department. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

MILLER

Genevieve LaPlante Miller

Genevieve LaPlante Miller died in her sleep after a short illness Sept. 13, 2004, in Davis. She was 79.

Born April 2, 1925 in Arizona, she lived in Davis for 22 years where she worked as a real estate broker and an instructor for the Adult Education Program.

She was active in the community during her real estate years, and loved painting, reading and traveling. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching their softball, basketball tennis and soccer games.

She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy King.

She is survived by her husband, Lauren Miller of Woodland; daughter, Cindy Nagel of Modesto; and two sons, Steve King of Sacramento, and son Robert Miller and daughter-in-law Rose Mary Miller of Davis.

She is further survived by her grandchildren Katrina and Caron Miller of Davis, Timothy and William King of Manteca, and Paul King of Kentucky.

The family will not be holding a service, but request that any individual wishing to remember Genevieve, can do so by sending donations to the Yolo Hospice, P. O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617.

MILLER

Harry Alden Miller, Jr.

Harry Alden Miller Jr. died in his Woodland home Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at age 85.

Born Sept. 10, 1920, he had been a Yolo County resident for about 35 years. He was the only son of the late Harry Alden Miller Sr. and grew up in Bath, Maine.

Survivors include his wife and friend of 26 years, Mary A. Duncan of Woodland; daughter, Gayle Dittig; and son, Bruce Robert Miller, both of California; stepdaughter, Helen Shellhammer of Woodland; stepsons, James, Michael and David Duncan; and many grandchildren.

Services: Respecting the wishes of Mr. Miller, there will be no services or memorials and his body has been donated to science at UC Davis Medical Center.

MILLER

Howard Miller

Howard "Danne" Miller died peacefully Nov. 4, 2001, at the home of friends who have been his caretakers for the past three years.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1901, in Mt. Vernon, Wash., to Henri and Clara Dannemiller. He had lived in Davis since 1932 and celebrated his 100th birthday this past September. He worked for PG&E for 44 years and retired in 1966 as a sub-foreman. He helped install many of the PG&E lines around Davis.

Miller was a member of St. James Church, as well as being a member of the Knights of Columbus for 81 years. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his children, daughter Jeanne and her husband Charles Palma of Davis and son Jerry Miller of Dublin; his brother, Joe Lamping, and his sister, Clara Allen, of Spokane, Wash.; nephews Raymond "Bud" Maris and his wife Jane of Hayward, William Maris of Anacortes, Wash., and Jerry Dannemiller of Salinas; as well as other nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Effie Miller; his brothers Paul, Leo, Mattew and Herbert Dannemiller; his sister, Hilda Maris; his son-in-law Harold "Hal" Falkenham; his brother-in-law, Carl Allen; and his sister-in-law, Elda Lamping.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Church, 14th and B streets in Davis. Burial will be at the Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that people donate to the St. James Church Building Fund or their favorite charity.
