COPP

Mary Isabelle Black Hoffman Copp
b: June 4, 1833 m: August 2, 1875 d: Jan 12, 1906.

MRS. MARY COPP PASSES TO REST

Died at Early Hour Friday Morning.

Another of Yolo County's Pioneer Mothers Crosses Over the River.

Mrs. Mary Isabelle Copp, one of the old residents of the county, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs Fred A. Porter, 530 Second Street at 6:05 o'clock Friday morning. (Jan. 12, 1906)

The funeral will be held from the Porter residence at 1:30 o'clock Sunday Afternoon and interment will be in the city cemetery. While the news of Mrs. Copp's death came as a matter of deep regret to many friends, her passing was not unexpected, as she had been ill for some time and bedfast since December 21st. She had failed rapidly during the past few days and her death was momentarily expected during that time. Mrs. Copp was unconscious during the greater part of the week. The general debilities of old age are ascribed as the cause of her death.

Mrs. Copp had reached the good old age of 72 years, 7 months and 8 days. She was born in Winchester, Scott County, Illinois, on June 4 1833, her maiden name being Mary Isabelle Black. She was married in that section to Jacob Hoffman. To them were born six children of whom L. J. Hoffman of Merced, Mrs. J. R. Allen of Sacramento, and Mrs. S. W. Baker of Dunnigan are the survivors.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman came with their family across the plains in 1862, accompanied by John A. black, a brother of deceased. The family first settled in Yolo county and resided here continuously with the exception of two months spent in Sutter county.

Mr. Hoffman passed away at Knights Landing in 1873. In August of 1875, the widow was wedded to the late W. H. H. Copp. Mr. and Mrs. Copp resided at Yolo and Woodland, returning to Dunnigan in 1896, where Mr. Copp died two years later.

Since her husband's death Mrs. Copp had made her home with her only daughter, Mrs. Fred A. Porter, in this city. Mrs. Copp was the last of her family, John A. Black having preceded her to the grave on October 15th.

During her long residence in the county Mrs. Copp had gained the esteem of all her acquaintances. She was a life long member of the Christian church, and was affiliated with the local congregation at the time of her death. Not only was Mrs. Copp noted for her good works in the church but she was revered for devotion to her family and kindness to her many friends. As a consequence her death is deeply mourned in all sections of the county.
