MATA

Hope D. Mata

Hope D. Mata passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a courageous fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Hope was born in Clarksburg and she attended local elementary schools including the baby school and Holy Rosary Academy on Main Street.

A graduate of Woodland High School, she was a licensed vocational nurse and graduated from Sacramento City College nursing program in 1969.

She was a very active member of Holy Rosary Church, where she sang with the 10 a.m. choir and was a 45 plus year member of the Young Ladies Institute (YLI), serving as president twice.

She accomplished her goals of seeing the pope in Monterey and visiting all the California missions.

In 1993, Hope retired from Woodland Healthcare after 30 plus years as Central Service supervisor and continued as a casual on-call Spanish interpreter for eight years.

She taught Lamaze classes for the migrant community and was a link for access to quality health care as a patient advocate for all.

She believed in community involvement and served as past chairperson for the city of Woodland's Commission on Aging and was a charter member of Yolo County's Diversity Advisory Committee and secretary to Golden West Central Service Healthcare chapter.

Hope also served as director/treasurer for the Elderly Nutrition Program and volunteered as an interpreter for Hospice.

She was named Woman of the Year in 1967 and 1996.

She cherished her family and was a fan of the San Francisco Giants and attended many Mariachi concerts.

She is survived by her loving husband, Val Mata. Sons, Raul Mata and Manuel Reynoso of Woodland. Daughters, Valerie Lugo and husband Alciro and Gloria Bailey and husband Jim all of Woodland.

She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alexander Lugo and Johnny Vasquez and her dear brother, Louie Contreras and wife Betty.

She is survived by her special Hortense Sisters and numerous nieces and nephews and Otilla Contreras.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Gloria Arrellano; brothers, Manuel and Melchor Contreras and most recently by her loving son, Larry Mata.

A vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at McNary's Chapel.

The funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church Friday, April 8 at 9:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Rosary Church Building Fund, the Forbes Norris ALS Clinic, 2324 Sacramento St., San Francisco, 94115, the Elderly Nutrition Program or the charity of your choice. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

MATA

Lawrence Anthony Mata

Lawrence Anthony Mata passed away in Davis Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at age 41.

Larry was born in Woodland Oct. 5, 1963 and had been a lifelong Yolo County resident. He attended Holy Rosary School, Lee Jr. and Woodland Sr. High Schools. He was a warm-hearted, loving man who cared for his family more than anything else in this world. He is remembered for sharing his sense of humor, helpfulness and love of music. He lived in Florida and Corpus Christi, Texas and vacationed in Hawaii. He had hopes of scouting the Venezuelan coast. On a recent Mexican cruise, he had the time of his life as he chaperoned his niece with the WHS show choir. Uncle Larry will be sorely missed by all especially his niece, Liz; his nephew, Alex and his lifelong chum, Kim Phillips.

Survivors include his loving parents, Val and Hope Mata; siblings, Manuel Reynoso, Gloria Bailey and husband Jim, Valerie Lugo and husband Al, all of Woodland; brother, Raul Mata; niece, Elizabeth Lugo of Santa Cruz; nephews, Alex Lugo and Johnny plus numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Refugio "Cuca" Contreras and Antonia Mata; uncles, Melchor Contreras and Joe Mata; aunts, Lola Castillo and Gloria Arrellano; cousins, Richard Mata, James Contreras and Pamela Contreras Ramos.

The family requests memorials in Larry's name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

Private interment was held at St. Joseph's Cemetery. McNary's Chapel of Woodland assisted the family with arrangements.

MATAL

Tracy Annette Lindstrom Matal

Tracy A. Lindstrom Matal died at her home in Elk Grove Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at age 41.

Mrs. Matal was born May 7, 1964 in Sacramento. She was the wife of former Woodland resident Ward A. Matal and daughter-in-law to Cotty and Ellie Matal of Woodland. She graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1982. She worked as a purchasing agent for Sacramento City Unified School District for 18 years. She was also a volunteer for breast cancer awareness.

Survivors include Mrs. Matal's husband of seven years, Ward A. Matal of Elk Grove; her daughter, Amanda Gray of El Grove; her son, Robby Gray of Elk Grove; her stepdaughters, Lauren and Megan Matal of Sacramento; her parents, Al and Jodie Lindstrom of Sacramento; her sister, Kelly Campbell of Placerville; her brothers, Skip Lindstrom of Modesto and Terry Lindstrom of Sacramento. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robby Lindstrom and brother-in-law, Allen Campbell.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Matal's name be directed to the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, Suite 115, Sacramento, 95815.

Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4910 Lemon Hill Ave., Sacramento with Pastor Charles Carlson officiating. Sierra View Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

MATHESON

Deborah Susan Matheson

Deborah Susan Matheson died on Jan. 21, 2005, at Sutter Davis Hospital. She was 54.

Born Sept. 22, 1950, to James and Katherine Matheson in Oakland, she was one of three children. She graduated from Acalanes High School in Lafayette in 1968. She briefly went to work for a telephone company in San Francisco, then was a flight attendant for United Airlines for approximately two years.

She then moved to New York where she studied to become a beautician. In 1974 she moved back to California where she worked in Walnut Creek and Yuba City, finally settling in Woodland in 1999.

She was described by her family as a very friendly and outgoing person who loved to be outdoors, especially camping and fishing in the bay. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her father, James D. Matheson.

She is survived by her mother, Katherine M. Matheson of Davis; her brother, Monte D. Matheson of Port Orford, Ore.; and sister, Laurie A. Litwin and her husband Tad, and their daughter Anna G. Litwin of Woodland Park, Colo.

No services have been scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Chapel.

MATHEWS

Alfred Warren Mathews

Alfred Warren Mathews died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at age 61.

Born Aug. 30, 1943, in Sacramento, Mr. Mathews had been a Yolo County resident for one year.

Survivors include his half-brother, Fred Silva of Sacramento.

Services: Interment is scheduled at the Public Guardian memorial in Woodland Cemetery.

MATHIES

Mary Mathies

Mary Mathies died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at age 74.

Born Dec. 14, 1927, in Oklahoma, Mrs. Mathies had been a Sonoma County resident for 36 years.

Mrs. Mathies is survived by her children, Jonny Mathies of Esparto, Mike Mathies, Linda Cox, Kemberly Emmons, Judy Duncan, David Mathies, James Mathies, all of Santa Rosa, and Marilyn Ambler of Redding; 23 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers, Ted Noyes of Arizona, and Henry of Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service is being held by close friends and family.

The family requests memorials be directed to American Heart Association.

Neptune Society of Northern California in Santa Rosa is assisting the family with arrangements

MATHIS

Leonard Charles Mathis

Leonard Charles Mathis passed away unexpectedly in his Winters residence on March 18, 1999, at the age of 36. He was born in Woodland on Oct. 4, 1962 to Charles and Nancy Mathis.

Mr. Mathis was a lifelong resident of Yolo County. He was disabled for most of the past 12 years.

He is survived by his brothers, Joe and Jim Mathis both of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Charles Mathis of West Sacramento; sister Maria McCune of Shawnee, Oklahoma; mother, Nancy Fischer, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; grandmother, Emma Polmanteer of Winters; niece, Crystal McCune, and nephew, Anthony McCune, both of Shawnee, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Mathis.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 24, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Winters. Graveside services were held Tuesday morning.

McNary’s Chapel assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
