REIFF

Ruth J. Bender Reiff

Ruth J. Bender Reiff died of respiratory failure Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Woodland Memorial Hospital at age 86.

Born July 7, 1916, in Ontario, Ore., to the late George and Mary Bender, Mrs. Reiff was a resident of Yolo County for more than 80 years. She graduated from Woodland High School and attended Sacramento City College.

Mrs. Reiff was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She was a member of the church choir and adult fellowship for many years and served on various church boards.

She was also a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Town and Country, Pricilla Club and St. John's Retirement Village Life Savers.

Mrs. Reiff was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake, loved doing crafts and needlework and was an avid reader.

She worked as a librarian for more than 20 years at the Yolo County Library, Woodland High School and UC Davis, where she retired from in 1981.

Mrs. Reiff is survived by her children, Kurt Samborsky and his wife, Rita, of Woodland, Mary Ann Samborsky of Sacramento, Dawn Samborsky of Pacifica and friend, Dave LaCosta, of San Francisco, Marilyn Mitchell and her husband, Chuck, of Woodland, Carolyn Reiff of Woodland, and Barbara Cantrell and her husband, Bob, of Vacaville; and sister, Pat Roach, of Davis.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rene Samborsky, Susan Samborsky, Mark Alman and his wife, Julie, Jill Alman, Dawn McClenter and her husband, Paul, Sheri Mitchell Marcus and her husband, Jason, Scott Mitchell, and Kim Cantrell; great grandchild, Nici Dale, Aaron Alman and Mackenzie Alman; great-grandchildren, Nikolas Dale and Kyersten Dale; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Reiff was preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years, Nick Samborsky, in 1962; second husband of 36 years, Robert Reiff, in 2002; sister, Betty Lasher; and brother, Clark Bender.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 432 Cleveland St., Woodland. A private graveside service is planned for later in the afternoon.

The family requests memorials be directed to the St. John's United Church of Christ Memorial Fund or Property Fund or to St. John's Retirement Home Chapel Fund.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

REILLY

Philip J. Reilly

Philip J. Reilly of El Macero died Feb. 25, 2002, at Sierra Health Care Convalescent Hospital. He was 83.

He was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on Nov. 15, 1918, to Philip and Catherine Reilly. He graduated from Fordham University and attended Georgetown University Law School. He was appointed a special agent for the FBI in June 1942 and served in Portland, Ore., and Los Angeles until 1943.

Reilly was commissioned into the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a deck and communications officer. He participated in naval action and amphibious landings in Iwo Jima and Okinawa, Japan, and the Philippines. He returned to the FBI after his military service and retired in 1973. He was a special investigator with the State Bar of California from 1975 to 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Rita McLoone Reilly; his daughter, Sister Mary Rita Reilly of Sacramento; his sons and daughter-in-law, Anne and Patrick Shires of San Andreas and John Reilly of College Park, Md.; six grandchildren, Michael, Sarah, Kara, Brittany, Andrew and Devon; and his sister, Lucy Cooper of Arlington, Va.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Davis. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made in his name to the National Parkinson Foundation Inc. at 1501 NW 9th Ave./Bob Hope Rd., Miami, FL 33136.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.

REIMER

Cassie Valerie Reimer

Cassie Reimer died at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005 at age 42.

Mrs. Reimer was born March 24, 1963 at Hahn Air Base, Germany, to the late Paul E. and Patricia A. Reimer. She had been a Woodland resident for 32 years. She was an AFS exchange student in Germany in 1980. A 1981 graduate of Woodland High School and 1985 graduate of Chico State College. She taught at Esparto Elementary, Zamora Elementary and Lee Middle School, where last May she was named the Masonic Educator of the Year 2005. She earned National Board Certification in 2004. She was a member of United Methodist Church, a member of the choir and served as a Steven Minister there. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Eastern Star.

Survivors include Mrs. Reimer's husband of eight years, Frank Redman; her sister, Connie Smith and her husband Dwayne; her brother, Russ Reimer and his wife Julie of Avon Lake, Ohio; her nieces, Jessica and Patricia Smith of Woodland and Addison Reimer of Avon Lake, Ohio; and her nephew, Austin Reimer of Avon Lake, Ohio.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Reimer's name be directed to the Cassie Reimer Memorial Fund, c/o Bank of the West, 186 Main St., Woodland, 95695. These funds will be used to modernize the stage area for future student productions in the multipurpose room at Lee Middle School.

Services: A memorial celebration is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 in the gym at Lee Middle School. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.

REIMER

Paul Emory 'Russ' Reimer (1st of 2 obituaries)

Paul Emory "Russ" Reimer, a resident of Woodland, Ca. since 1973, died July 12th, 2004 after a life of service to his country, community and family. Russ was born on March 27th, 1934 to Paul and Thelma (Lowery) Reimer in Enid, OK. In 1939, the family moved to San Francisco, CA. "Russ" often spoke of happy days as a young boy fishing off of the docks near fishermen's wharf.

In 1951, "Russ" joined the United States Air Force and served with distinction in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his military career, he earned a Commendation Medal for heroism and a Bronze Star for meritorious service under hostile fire. Following 20 years of dedicated service, he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1971.

"Russ" and his wife, Pat Reimer (the former Gibson Elementary School Principal) then settled their family in Woodland, CA. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Sacramento State University and began a second career as a federal employee at McClellan AFB. During this time, "Russ" also restored the family Victorian located at 656 College St. The house is now listed on the registry of historic homes in Woodland.

In his retirement years, "Russ" was active in the community. He served as a member of the Woodland Kiwanis. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Masonic Lodge. He also continued to enjoy traveling, fishing and vacationing at his cabin on the Russian River. Russ always took pride in voting and taught his children to appreciate the freedom we all share in this great country.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Pat, "Russ" is survived by his sisters Janie Lee Fitzgerald of Santa Rosa, CA as well as JeAnn Craemer and Fran Jackson of Yucca Valley, CA. He is also survived by his daughters Connie Smith and husband Dwayne and Cassie Reimer Redman and husband Frank of Woodland, CA and his son Major Russell Reimer and wife Julie of Avon Lake, OH. Four grandchildren, Jessica Smith of Sacramento, Patricia Smith of Woodland and Austin and Addison Reimer of Avon Lake, Ohio survive "Russ" also.

An open funeral service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 16th at Monument Hill Memorial Park. The family requests any donations, in lieu of flowers, be forwarded to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Office of Donor Services, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.

Services: A visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m., today Thursday, July 15, at Kraft Bros. Funeral Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland. An open funeral service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

REIMERS

Mary M. Reimers

Mary M. Reimers died of a stroke on Jan. 27, 2000. She was born on June 5, 1917, in Merryville, Louisiana. She spent the first three years of her life in Merryville, Louisiana, but spent the first six years of her life in Arkansas. When she was six, her family moved to South Pasadena, California.

Mary attended UCLA, getting a teacher's life certificate. After teaching for three years, she went on to the San Francisco Theological Seminary, got her degree and began work as a Christian educator, first in a local church and then representing the Synod of California.

On Sept. 24, 1949, she married the Reverend John L. Reimers and raised two daughters, Anne and Susan. They came to Winters in March 1964, where her husband became pastor of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church. She taught in the Winters School District for years before retiring in 1983. In 1990 they moved to a retirement home in Medford, Oregon, and she resided there until her death.

She kept active in church affairs, especially in the Women's Circles. She enjoyed yearly camping trips with the family and was a most gracious hostess to many friends.

Mrs. Reimers is survived by her husband and both daughters, and three grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service for Mrs. Reimers at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m.

REINGRUBER

Vera Hill Reingruber (1st of 2 obituaries)

Vera Hill Reingruber of Woodland died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005 at age 89.

Mrs. Reingruber was born Feb. 7, 1916 in Santa Cruz. She had been a Yolo County resident for 87 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Diamond National in Esparto and later worked for the Yolo County probation department.

Survivors include Mrs. Reingruber's daughter, Jadeane Carr and her husband Mike of College City; her grandchildren Dennis Goeman, Jeff Goeman, Victoria Goeman, Martin McGinnis, Diane Steele, Scott McGinnis and Patrick McGinnis; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Hill; her second husband, George Reingruber; and her daughter, Phyllis Lewis.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Reingruber's name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice. Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at Woodland City Cemetery with the Reverend Elmer Prout officiating. Inurnment will be at Woodland City Cemetery. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

Vera Hill Reingruber (2nd of 2 obits.)

Vera Hill Reingruber, 89, of Woodland died Aug. 20, 2005 at Woodland Memorial Hospital. Born in Santa Cruz, she lived most of her life in Yolo County. She was a bookkeeper working for Diamond National in Esparto later working for Yolo County Probation Department 20 years prior to retiring. After retirement she traveled to many lands, enjoying the world.

Survivors include her daughter, Jadeane Carr and her husband Mike of College City; seven grandchildren: Dennis Goeman of Sacramento, Jeff Goeman of Esparto, Victoria Goeman of Yuba City, Martin McGinnis of Michigan, Diane Steele of Arcata, Scott McGinnis of Gridley and Patrick McGinnis of Fields Landing; 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Andrew Hill and her second husband George Reingruber; also a daughter, Phyllis Lewis.

The family requests memorials in Vera's name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

Graveside services will be held at Woodland Cemetery Saturday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Elmer Prout officiating. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements. Inquires may be made by calling 662-4658.

REINHART

Allan Manfred Reinhart

Allan Manfred Reinhart died in Davis on Jan. 26, 2005. He was 93.

Born in San Francisco on Aug. 29, 1911, he spent part of his childhood in Walnut Creek and the Philippines. He returned to San Francisco where he attended Lowell High School, rowing on the crew team and playing basketball.

He went on to Stanford University, and later in the 1930s accompanied his parents to China. In 1941 he married Marie Cannon, beginning a marriage lasting until her death in 2003.

He served in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II, eventually retiring as a colonel after a full career in the reserves. He spent most of his working years as an agent for the New York Life Insurance Co. in San Francisco.

His family says he devoted considerable time to supporting the activities of his children, including years as an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts. During retirement, he enjoyed the educational offerings of the Fromm Institute at the University of San Francisco. Just months before his death, he moved to the University Retirement Community in Davis where he received the support of a wonderful staff.

He is survived by his children, Sister Pat Reinhart of Los Angeles, Barbara Reinhart Byers and her husband Mark Byers of Novato, and Michael Reinhart and his wife Dorothy Yerxa of Davis; and five grandchildren, Patrick and Daniel Byers of Novato and Virginia, Alicia and Elliot Reinhart of Davis.

Friends are invited to a funeral at 1 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church, 200 W. 14th St. in Davis. Private interment will be at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
