Alice Van Amber Morlan

Services here Friday for Alice Morlan

Graveside services will be held at the Winters Cemetery at 1 p.m. Friday for Alice Van Amber Morlan, 88, who died in her home in Davis on May 20, 1986. Mrs. Morlan was born June 28, 1897 in Ft. Bragg, California.

Survivors include her sister, Mabel Bruhn, of Winters.

Frances Charlotte Morlan (obituary 1 of 2)

Frances Charlotte Morlan died on Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the Laurel Creek Health Center in Fairfield where she had resided the last three years.

The cause of death was Alzheimer's Diseases.

Mrs. Morlan was the last of four children born to Sophie and Charles Stirn, and was born April 7, 1911 in Sacramento, Ca. When Fran was age 10 she moved to Winters with her family who owned and operated a bakery there. Fran said she worked in the bakery at the counter though she wasn't tall enough to see over.

Mrs. Morlan attended grade and high schools in Winters. At Winters High School she was an athlete, participating in tennis, and for four years she ws active in both basketball and baseball. She won many trophies throughout her high school years for her proficiency in typing. She used that skill as the business manager of "The Poppy" yearbook in 1928.

She graduated from Winters High School in 1929, and returned to Sacramento where she was employed by the California Western States Life Insurance Company. She was later employed by Heieck Supply in Sacramento.

As a young woman Mrs. Morlan continued her love of sports, becoming a multi-sport talent over the years.

She was a member of the California Western States Life ladies softball team for many years, including 1937 when the team won the Sacramento City Championship.

She was a long-time member of the German Turn Verein women's basketball team in Sacramento, and was a participant in 1934 and 1935 when the team won the Municipal Basketball League Championship. In addition, she was a participant on the women's Turn Verein 1942 volleyball team which won the Municipal Volleyball League Championship. Other sports in which she participated include swimming, diving, gymnastics, and badminton. During these same years she performed in vaudeville using dancing and acting talents she initially developed during high school. In later life she developed an interest in golf and was a member first of the Del Paso Heights Country Club in Sacramento, and later in the Yolo Fliers Club of Woodland. She was especially proud of her hole-in-one at the Yolo Fliers Club, Hole No. 7 for 127 yards on May 16, 1978.

Mrs. Morlan and her husband, Norval, were high school classmates who, after an intervening period, renewed their relationship and married in March 1963. They lived in Carmichael until 1974 when they retired to Woodland. In addition to Mrs. Morlan's affiliation with Yolo Fliers Club she was a long-time member of the Woodland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Holy Rosary Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norval in 1987; and by her brother, Alfred Stirn; and sisters Clemence Graf and Louise Spiegel. She is survived by nephews Alfred Graf and wife Kay of Winters, and Alfred C. Stirn and wife Charlene of Orangevale, and her nieces, Barbara Thomas and husband Jack of Winters, and Gail Quinley and husband Richard of Sacramento. Further, she is survived by her sister-in-law Wilda Plocher of Sacramento; her cousin, Yvonne Wassler of Nothalten, France; and by numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in the Winters Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial donations may send them to the Alzheimer's Association, 2222 Watt Ave., Suite D-1, Sacramento, Ca. 95825; or to the donor's favorite charity.

Smith's Colonial Chapel of Winters is assisting with the arrangements.

Frances Morlan (obituary #2 of 2)

Stirn and wife Charlene of Orangevale; nieces, Barbara Thomas and husband Jack of Winters, and Gail Quinley and husband Richard of Sacramento; sister-in-law, Wilda Plocher of Sacramento; cousin, Yvonne Wassler of Nothalten, France; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norval in 1987; brother, Alfred Stirn; and sisters Clemence Graf and Louise Spiegel.

The family requests memorials be directed to Alzheimer's Association, 2222 Watt Ave., Suite D-1, Sacramento, 95825; or to charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel of Winters.

Services: A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in the Winters Cemetery.

MORRELL

Alice L. Morrell

Alice L. Morrell died July 6, 2005, in Woodland. Born April 11, 1920, in Somerville, N.J., she was 85 years old.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the El Macero Country Club.

She married John R. Morrell on Jan. 7, 1942; his call to duty took the couple away from Somerville to travel the world for the next 30 years. Their son John Michael was born while they lived in Germany.

In April 1968, the family moved to Davis, where she made her home for 37 years. She owned a craft store that sold ceramics that she had made, and found time to perfect her golf game, which included shooting four holes-in-one.

"She was not only a loving wife and caring mother, she was a teacher of the arts, " her family says. "She expressed her feelings in her paintings, and in the clothes she made. Her ability to take a simple item and turn it into a work of art was amazing.

"Her love of family, her creativity and her smile will be deeply missed."

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John R. Morrell of Davis; her son John Michael and his wife Wendy (Talbott) of Tualatin, Ore.; two granddaughters, Stacy Lyman of Tualatin and Erin Ariza of Sherwood, Ore.; and two great-grandsons, Dylan Lyman of Tualatin and Zachary Ariza of Sherman.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Stollwood Convalescent Home in Woodland.

MORRIS

Anna Sue (Dozier) Morris

Anna Sue (Dozier) Morris passed away at her home in Winters on Aug. 27, 2005, following a very lengthy illness. Born on Feb. 13, 1954, she was 51 years old.

She was a member of Pioneer Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Winters High School. She loved fishing, caring for hummingbirds and yellow roses. She also loved her family and the dear friends who became like family. An incredibly loving person, she valued and revered her friends.

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, E. Paul Morris, of Winters; mother, Margaret Dozier, of Winters; children, Donald F. Jones and Ian Paul Morris, of Winters; brothers Rick Dozier and his wife, Catherine, of Vacaville and Scott Dozier and his wife, Kathy, of Winters; sister Mardi (Dozier) Langdon, and her husband, Peter, of Winters; also by her dearest friend, Trudee Dahringer, of Winters.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 10, at 2 p.m. at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 205 Russell Street, Winters. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.

Bobby Gene “Bob” Morris

Bob Morris passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006 at the age of 72. He was at home surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Bob was born Nov. 11, 1933 in Gore, Okla. to John and Ruby Morris. He was the eldest of five children. His family moved to California and eventually settled in Woodland when he was in elementary school. He had many fond memories from his childhood and loved to talk about his family and friends from the old neighborhood. He attended Woodland High School, graduating with the class of 1951. In high school he participated in Future Farmers of America, serving as president in his senior year. He also took part in athletics and was a member of the Thespians.

In February of 1951, during his senior year in high school, he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve. After graduation he attended a semester at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo before requesting active duty in the Navy. He served as a hospital corpsman during the Korean War until he was discharged in February 1954. After he returned to Woodland, he took a position at International Minerals. That summer he met the love of his life, Audrey. They were engaged at Christmas and married the next July. Last summer they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Together they raised a family of four and in 1975 they added another daughter through the American Field Service exchange program.

In 1958, Bob began working at UC Davis in the Department of Veterinary Medicine. Over the next 24 years, Bob and the research team developed the technology for animal blood typing. When the technology matured, Bob co-founded Stormont Laboratories with his professor and research associates to transfer the technology to private industry. Bob was President/CEO of Stormont Labs for 23 years. With his expertise and as a member of the International Society of Animal Genetics, Bob had a chance to travel and establish friendships with international colleagues. His love of travel was a source of great stories and memories.

One of his greatest joys was to travel with his family. He would pile everyone into the car for camping trips throughout the western states. Montana was one of his favorite destinations.

Bob trained to be a pilot with UC Cal Aggie Flying Farmers. He had dreamed of being a pilot from an early age and was proud when he earned his pilot's license. He had ownership in two planes and only recently retired from flying. He had many adventures with fellow pilots and cherished his flying days with them.

Bob always loved music. He tried to master the ukulele and guitar, but his love of singing led him to join the Woodland Chamber Singers. The years he spent with them and their director filled the last four years of his life with a new challenge. When Bob was not traveling or flying, he was either gardening, enjoying music or involved with local organizations. He was president of the Kiwanis Club and served three terms as president of the Yolo Employment Services Board of Directors. When his family was young, he participated as a Chief of the YMCA Indian Guides with his sons and coached Little League for many years. He was also active in the 20-30 Club and Mr. and Mrs. Dance Club. He as proud of his Cherokee Heritage and was a member of the Cherokee Tribe of Oklahoma.

Bob was a loving grandfather who encouraged his grandchildren in all of their endeavors. His pride in their accomplishments, big or small, brought joy to his life. He told them to finish what they started, and strive to be the best. Reach for the stars!

Bob will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Audrey and their children. Sons, Larry and wife Sherri and their children Kyle, Amanda and Kevin; Dale and his wife Diane; David and fiance April Martinez and his children Hayleigh, Chloe, Natalie and Grayson. Daughters, Kathleen Beatty and husband John and their children Chelsea, Rachel and Hannah; Wilma Holgerson (AFS daughter) and husband Kreg and their son Tucker. He is survived by his sisters, Jonna Huff and her husband Hugh, Thana Ratliff and her husband Buck, Deanna Isenhower and her husband Spencer, all of Yuba City and his brother Darrell Morris of Arma, Kan. He is also survived by Audrey's sister, Lois Fernandez and brother, Bill Coombs and wife Nonnie and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at the Hotel Woodland. The family requests donations are to be directed to the Yolo Community Foundation Đ Bob Morris Family Community Fund, P.O. Box 1264, Woodland, 95776. This fund will carry on his desire to give to his community. A scholarship will be established in his name and funds will be available for youth education programs in the community.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

MORRIS

Janet Lillian Morris

Janet Lillian Morris died at her home in Woodland Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 at age 66.

Mrs. Morris was born Jan. 1, 1939 in Detroit to Charles and Iola (Petersdorf) Fortier. She had been a Yolo County resident for nine years. She attended Sonoma High School and continued technical training as a psychological technician. She was employed with Sonoma State Hospital, working in mental health for more than 20 years. She was a fiddler for the California State Old Time Fiddlers, a member of the Sweet Adeline's, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Moose Lodges in Oregon and California.

Survivors include Mrs. Morris' daughter, Pamela Litz of Santa Rosa; her grandchildren, Aimee Litz and Jete Imwalle and her husband Paul of Santa Rosa; her sisters, Yvonne Antognazzi of Lancaster and Joyce Reed of Sacramento; and her brother, Don Fortier of Surprize, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Thurston.

Services: A celebration of Mrs. Morris' life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at 167 Elm St., Woodland. Evergreen Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

MORRIS

SueDea Cummins Morris

SueDea Morris passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the age of 99. She was born Jan. 24, 1906 and was a third generation born in Woodland. SueDea lived her entire life here, with the exception of the years 1934-35, when she and her husband lived in China.

SueDea attended schools in Woodland and graduated from Mills College in Oakland in 1931. She married Frank Leslie Morris in 1933 and was happily married for 72 years.

Mrs. Morris taught classroom music and general education at both Dingle and Beamer schools. She retired from teaching in 1974. SueDea was active in the community. She was the first president of Omega Nu sorority in 1927 and was a charter member of Chapter IX of P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was also the first president of the Beamer School PTA. After retirement, SueDea and her husband traveled extensively, both worldwide and in the U.S. and Canada.

SueDea is survived by her husband, Frank Leslie Morris; daughters, Marilyn Fields and her husband Tom of Woodland and Erin Rohde and her husband Jim of Greenbrae; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Michael Fields, Bryn Davies and Christian Rohde; great-grandchildren, Hunter and McKenzie Davies, Jacob and Joseph Fields and Justin Fields. She has one living sister, Claire Taylor Schnoor of Santa Cruz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas D. Cummins and Hazel Spaulding Cummins and her sister, Elizabeth Cummins Graeser.
