ALCANTAR

Carlos Alcantar

Carlos Alcantar died on Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at age 48.

Born Nov. 6, 1954, in Tarandacuao, Guanajuato, Mexico, Mr. Alcantar had been a Yolo County resident for 15 years. He worked for Fleetwood for 12 years as an assembler. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ofelia (Regalado) Alcantar; sons, Carlos, Jose and Simon Alcantar; daughter, Mayra Alcantar; brother, Fidel Alcantar and wife Rosalina; sister, Maria Alcantar-Valdez and husband Rolando; brother-in-law, Sergio Regalado and wife Ivonne, all of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Alcantar and Carmen (Soto) Alcantar.

The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.

Services: Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. today Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. A funeral mass is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, also at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father Juan Perez officiating. Burial will follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

ALCAUSKAS

Ignatius "Jim" Vincent Alcauskas

Ignatius "Jim" Vincent Alcauskas died at his Davis home on July 24, 2003, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis, with his wife Geraldine and son Richard at his side. He was 83.

Born in Boston on Jan. 2, 1920, he became an aircraft crew foreman, Republic Steel employee and, during World War II, a U.S. Navy Seabee.

He lived in Davis during the past year; before that, he lived in Danbury, Conn., for 36 years.

He was preceded in death by son Brian Alcauskas, who died at age 10.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine Alcauskas; son Richard and daughter-in-law Kathy Alcauskas of Davis, son James and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Alcauskas of Dale City, Va., and son Thomas Alcauskas of Indianapolis; sister Donna Lee of Maine; and grandchildren Steven and Susan Alcauskas of Davis and Katherine and Jacob Alcauskas of Dale City.

A private graveside service will be held at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to a local hospice agency in the name of the deceased.

ALCAZAR

Jose Abarca Alcazar

Jose Abarca Alcazar died at his Woodland residence on March 29, 2006. He was 70.

A vigil service will begin at 6 p.m. today, with a funeral Mass scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, at the corner of Walnut and Court streets. Private interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Woodland.

He was born on May 27, 1935, in Cassaday, Kan., to Rafael and Virginia (Abarca) Alcazar. He attended Kansas schools until he moved to Yolo County in 1952 and graduated from Cache Creek High School in 1953. A local farm laborer for more than 31 years, he made Woodland his home for the past 54 years and was a member of the Holy Rosary Church since 1957.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Estela Alcazar of Woodland; two daughters, Virginia Ordonez and her husband Salvador, and Anna DeLaFuente and her husband Juan of Sacramento; two sons, Joe Alcazar Jr. of Woodland and David Alcazar of Cameron Park; three brothers, Frank Alcazar of Merced, and Jorge and Efrain Alcazar of Tocumbo, Mexico; and six sisters, Angela Khaled of Pesacola, Fla., Mercedes Brown of Oregon, and Yuya Solis, Hilda Alcazar, Sylvia Molina and Jessie Andrade all of Tocumbo, Mexico.

He also leaves seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Pete Alcazar.

Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

Barbara Jean Hooper

Barbara Jean Hooper died following a lengthy illness in Woodland at age 71.

Born April 15, 1929, in San Francisco, Mrs. Hooper spent her childhood and early adulthood in the Pacific Northwest. After two years of College, she married and moved to California. Upon leaving the Bay area in 1973 she settled in Davis, where she has spent the last 28 years. She worked both for UC Davis and the Davis Community Clinic until her retirement in 1990.

Mrs. Hooper is survived by her daughter, Maribeth French of Jackson; son, Christopher R. Traube of Moraga; four granddaughters; and her mother, Elizabeth L. Teague.

A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 "D" St., Davis.

The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo County SPCA, P.O. Box 510, Davis 95617; or the Marine Mammal Rescue Center, 1065 Ft. Croncite, Sausalito, 94965.

McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leonard J. Tucker

Leonard J. Tucker died in Somerset Nursing Facility in West Sacramento Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2001, at age 79.

Born March 1, 1921, in Quinton, Okla., Mr. Tucker had been a Yolo County resident for over 20 years. He was a laborer.

Interment is scheduled at the Veteran's Section in Woodland Cemetery.

North Sacramento Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

John Hudnall

John Hudnall died in his Arbuckle home Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at age 74.

Born May 5, 1926, in Thousand Oaks, Mr. Hudnall served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946. He then went to work for the State Department of Forestry, from which he retired in 1981. According to his family members, "he never one to like being idle, he drove for Sagara trucking every summer for the last 15 years."

Mr. Hudnall is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bertha (Morgan) Hudnall of Arbuckle; sons, John alan and wife Lynda of Woodland, Raymond Kurtis and wife Sue of Sacramento, and Jason Paul and wife Chris of Elk Grove; and grandchildren, Melinda Day and Michele Dixon of Woodland, Erin and Kelly Hudnall of Sacramento, and Adam and Maggie Hudnall of Elk Grove; and great-grandchildren, Douglas Day, Sarah and Scott Dixon, all of Woodland.

He is also survived by his sisters, Sarah Hanscom of Thousand Oaks, and Sadie Maurer and husband Ed of Camarillo.

Mr. Hudnall was preceded in death by his parents, John McDonald Hudnall and Leslie (Inez) McFarland; sisters, Sally Ann Bradley and Helen Elizabeth Salem and brother, Sam Beaman Hudnall.

A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in the Arbuckle United Methodist Church, 9th Street, Arbuckle.

Helen Frances Lowrey

Helen Frances Lowrey died with family members present in Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, Woodland Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at age 89.

Born Nov. 13, 1911, in St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Lowrey was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances Zdarsky.

She was the youngest of eight children.

She attended schools in St. Paul prior to moving to Sacramento, where she graduated from Sacramento High School and Heald Business College.

Following college, she worked for the State Finance Department, where she met then freshman Assemblyman Lloyd W. Lowrey Sr.

They were married in November of 1945.

According to her family members, "she devoted herself to her family and the 20-year political career she and her husband fashioned in the California State Assembly.

She enjoyed living in the home the family had built in 1967.

She was an avid bridge player.

She also enjoyed being with her family on the ranch for holidays and on trips to Fort Bragg."

She lived on the family ranch in Rumsey for her entire married life up until this year.

Her independence was halted on Jan. 3, when she suffered head injuries as a result of a fall.

She was comforted by her family in the days following her accident.

Mrs. Lowrey was a past Matron of the Esparto Order of Eastern Star, long-time member of the Western Yolo Grange and Yolo County Farm Bureau, member of the Rumsey Improvement Association, Capay Valley 4-H Leader, and participated in many community and school related organizations as her children grew.

She is survived by her sons, Lloyd Jr. and wife Carol of Salinas, Jan Lowrey and wife Kathy of Woodland and Dr. Timothy Lowrey and wife Derryn of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Susanna King of Columbia, S.C., Amanda Van Houtte of Davis, Danial Lowrey of Cambridge, Mass., Johanna, Tessa and Patrick Lowrey, all of Woodland and Liam Lowrey of Albuquerque; and great-grandchild, Petra Van Houtte of Davis.

Mrs. Lowrey is also survived by her sister, Georgia Pollock of Sacramento.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd W. Lowrey Sr., in 1992.

A graveside service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, in Woodland Cemetery. Following interment, a memorial service will be held at 2:15 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 2nd and North Streets, Woodland.

The family requests memorials be directed to Cache Creek Conservancy, 661-1070.
