UNDERWOOD

Sally Cooney Underwood

Sally Cooney Underwood died July 14, 2004, at her home in Davis. She was 71 years old.

She had been under the care of the UC Davis Hospice.

Born April 20, 1933, in Medford, Ore., she received a bachelor's degree from Willamette University. Following a year in Paris, where she taught English conversation to French students at the Lycee Sophie-Germain, she returned to the United States for graduate work.

She received her master's degree in English from UC Berkeley, where she met Douglas Underwood. They married on Aug. 21, 1958, and moved to Walla Walla, Wash., where they lived for 40 years.

During her years in Walla Walla, she participated in numerous educational, civic and church organizations. She taught English as a Second Language at Walla Walla Community College. She was elected twice to the Walla Walla School Board, and served on the city Planning Commission.

She was also a member and officer of the General (National) and Washington State Commissions on the Status and Role of Women in the United Methodist Church, and represented her community college on a statewide committee of community college instructors.

She is a past president of the Walla Walla League of Women Voters, a past board member and officer of American Association of University Women and United Way there, and a former board member of WAESOL, the state professional organization for ESL instructors.

After moving to Davis in 1999, she was active at International House as a board member, a docent, a member of the Program Committee and as discussion leader for the Great Decisions foreign policy discussion group. She was also a member of the Davis League of Women Voters and University Farm Circle. She was a member of the Davis Community Church.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas; two daughters, Deborah Underwood of San Francisco and Judith Underwood and her husband Ian Gent of Cupar, Scotland, and their children Sarah and Sophie Gent. She is also survived by her brother, William Cooney and his wife Evelyn of San Jose and their son William.

A memorial service will take place Aug. 6 in Walla Walla. Memorial donations may be sent to International House, Davis, the American Cancer Society, the Lymphoma Research Foundation at 8800 Venice Blvd., Suite 207, Los Angeles 90034, or to the hospice of the donor's choice.

HERNANDEZ

Fidel Lozeno Hernandez

Fidel Lozeno Hernandez died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Cottonwood Healthcare in Woodland. He was 67.

Private family services will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, in Marion, Texas.

Born July 15, 1938, in San Antonio to Abraham and Felepia (Lozeno) Hernandez, he resided there until moving to California in the late 1940s, relocating to Sacramento. He worked in the automotive field as a laborer and mechanic for more than 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jovita Hernandez, sister Antonia Hernandez and brother Pete Hernandez.

He is survived by his daughter, Isabel Molina of Marion, Texas; sons Fidel Hernandez Jr. of New Braunfels, Texas, and Harry Hernandez of San Antonio; sisters Andrea, Jamie and Frances Hernandez, all of San Antonio; brother George Hernandez of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland.

SCHUYLER

Charles Nicholos Schuyler

Charles Nicholos Schuyler, 77, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2004 at his Woodland home. Mr. Schuyler was born on Feb. 1, 1927 in Woodland and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed with Marvin Landplane from 1947-1959, prior to Granite Construction where he was a mechanic, for 23 years. He was also a member of Woodland Elks Lodge #1299.

He is survived by his son Mark Schuyler, of Carmichael; daughter Jane Urquidez and her husband Danny, of Pollock Pines; brothers George Schuyler, of Woodland and Fred Schuyler of Winters; sisters Agnes Ventura, of Woodland and Earline Mangan of Payette Idaho. He is also survived by his close friend Jane Johnson, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death in 2000 by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis and a sister, Viola Abbott, in 2001.

A graveside celebration of life service was held on Wednesday, April 14, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, in Woodland. Friends were invited to gather at 80 Sand Point Drive, in Woodland following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Kaiser Hospice, 2025 Morse Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95825, in his memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Service, in Woodland.

SCOTT

Anne I. Scott

Anne Irene Scott died on March 11, 2000, at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, at the age of 58. Born on Oct. 27, 1941, in Jameson Township, Minn., to Irene S. (Abraham) Scott and the late Fredrick H. Borath, she was 58.

She was a resident of Yolo County for 14 years. She was self-employed as a Farmers Insurance agent for the past 16 years. She was a member of the Emblem Club and a member and current president of the Woodland Host Lions Club.

She is survived by her husband, E. Neil Scott of Woodland; son, Gregory Edward Scott of Sacramento and his wife Marle; three grandchildren, Natasha, Makayla and Mason Scott of Sacramento; sister, Martha Hintz; brother, Ernest F. Borath, both of Crescent City; and mother, Irene Borath of Crescent City.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Woodland Elks Lodge on Bush Street in Woodland.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

MOORE

James Douglas Moore

James Douglas Moore of Woodland died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 at age 81.

Mr. Moore was born June 8, 1924 in Cooper, Texas. He had been a Yolo County resident for 55 years. He attended Woodland High School. During World War II he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and attained the rank of staff sergeant. In 1954 he opened his own business in Woodland, Body Works. He retired in 1973, after giving the business to his sons. After retiring, he obtained his real estate license and drove part-time for Budget Car Rentals.

Survivors include Mr. Moore's wife of 62 years, Mabel J. Moore; his daughter, Joanne Smyth and her husband Danny of Woodland; his sons, Jimmie Moore and his wife Katherine and Ronnie Moore and his wife Rita, all of Woodland; his grandchildren, Katie James and her husband Jerry, Bonnie Phillips and her husband Pete, Dennis Moore and his wife Michele, Ronda Moore, Crystal Smyth and Ellie Tetz, all of Woodland and Sara Baily and her husband Mark of Lodi; seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Lindy Moore and his wife Charline of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton Moore and Billie Malm.

Services: A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at Woodland Cemetery. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

HERNANDEZ

Humberto Aguirre Hernandez (1 of 3)

Humberto Aguirre Hernandez died Friday, May 3, 2002, at age 28.

Born April 27, 1974, in Jesus Maria Jal., Mexico, Mr. Hernandez was a hard worker and excellent father who enjoyed taking his kids to his soccer games and spending time with his family, according to family members. His family added that "he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and soccer team, 'Arzenal.'"

Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife, Stacey Hernandez and his children, Briana Nicole, Humberto Ricardo, and Jasmine Victoria.

He is also survived by his parents, Jose and Josefina Hernandez; brothers and sisters, Martin, Marisela, Rosa, Lupita, Dani, and Luis Enrique and six brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; grandparents, Guadalupe y Ma. Dolores Aguirre and Adrian y Ma. Del Refujio Hernandez of Jal. Mexico; and Mike and Diane Kelly of Woodland, and Hazel Speegle of Winters; in-laws, Charles and Tamara Brooks and Joseph and Elizabeth Speegle of Winters; numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews.

Friends and acquaintances are invited to support the family by attending a vigil service at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 9, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 511 Main St., Winters.

The Mass is scheduled to be said at 10 a.m., Friday, May 10, also at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Winters.

An account has been set up at the First Northern Bank in Winters for the family.

Smith's Colonial Chapel of Winters is assisting the family with arrangements.

Humberto A. Hernandez (2 of 3)

Humberto Aguirre Hernandez of Winters died in a car accident on May 3, 2002, near Colusa. He was 28.

He was born on April 27, 1974, in Jesus Maria, Jalisco, Mexico.

He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend and will be greatly missed by many in the community. He will also be missed by his soccer team. He was a hard worker and excellent father who enjoyed taking his kids to soccer games and spending time with his family.

His wife Stacey Hernandez of Winters shares this personal message: "I love you baby and I'll miss you dearly and for always. I love you so much and my heart is with you."

He is survived by his wife and his children Briana Nicole, Humberto Ricardo and Jasmine Victoria, all of Winters.

He is also survived by his parents Jose and Josefina Hernandez; brothers and sisters Martin, Marisela, Rosa, Lupita, Dani, Luis Enrique and six brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, all of Winters; and grandparents Guadalupe y Ma. Dolores Aguirre and Adrian y Ma. Del Refujio Hernandez of Jalisco, Mexico.

He is further survived by grandparents Mike and Diane Kelly of Woodland and Hazel Speegle of Winters; in-laws Charles and Tamara Brooks and Elizabeth Speegle, all of Winters. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews further survive him.

Friends and acquaintances are invited to support the family by attending a vigil service for him at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 511 Main St., Winters.

The Mass of the Resurrection will also be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Humberto A. Hernandez passed away on May 3, 2002. Born April 27, 1974, in Jesus Maria Jal. Mexico, he was 28 years old.

He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Humberto will be very, very missed by his family, friends and soccer team "Arzenal." He was a hard worker and an excellent father who enjoyed taking his kids to his soccer games and spending time with his family. He was dearly loved by his wife whose heart is with him and who will miss him dearly and for always.

An evening vigil will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

A memorial account has been set up in his name at First Northern Bank in Winters.
