At Hillsdale Manor, Oshawa on July 24th, 2002 in her 76th year. Survived by sister Regna Scott and her husband Bill and Brother-in-law Jim Mackey. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by parents Tom and Peg Sloan and sister Joyce Mackey. A private family service was held on Friday July 26th, 2002 followed by Interment at GROVESIDE Cemetery, Brooklin. Arrangements were entrusted to W.C. Town Funeral Chapel 110 Dundas St. E., Whitby. In memoriam, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or Hillsdale Manor.

Peacefully at Copernicus Lodge, Toronto, on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, Mary Makowczyk, beloved wife of the late Leon Makowczyk. Dear mother of Helen and her husband John Brooks of Whitby arid Peter and his wife Katherine Makowchik of Unionville. Cherished grandmother of Kevin and Randy Makowchik, and Adam Brooks. Mary s happiness will be missed by all. Resting at the W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby from Friday 7-9 p.m. Funeral Saturday, leaving the Funeral Home 10 a.m. to St. Mary of the People Church, Oshawa for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary s Cemetery, Oshawa. Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 in her 88th year. Kathleen Brimacombe, beloved wife of the late Arnold Thorndyke. Dear mother of Sharon and Brian Edey, Linda and Eric Oliver, Lewis and Amanda Thorndyke and the late Carol Thorndyke. Loving grandmother of Paul, Peter, Mark, Philip, Michael, Carolyn, Robert, Kathleen, Rachel, Sarah and Jennifer. Great grandmother of Lisa and Amy. Sister of the late Eva Longyear, the late Milton Brimacombe and the late Fred Brimacombe. Friends were received at the Ross Funeral Chapel, 135 Walton St., Port Hope, Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Service was held in the chapel on Saturday July 27th, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment Port Hope Union Cemetery. passed away at Grey-Bruce Health Services Center, Owen Sound, on Wednesday, July 24th, 2002, at age 70 years. Beloved husband of Sheila (nee Smith). WALSH, Rita (nee Bouillon) -

A battle lost but not without a fight. Peacefully at her home in Newcastle after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends, Rita passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the age of 66. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Gerry. Loving mother to sons Raymond (Penny), Richard, and Ronald (Ruth) of Oshawa, Paul (Elizabeth) of Calgary, and daughter Monique (Doug) of Toronto. Cherished grandmother to Sylvie and Daniel, Kristine, Chantal and Jacob, Courtney and Kyla, and Cody. Rita was born in Sudbury and is survived by her nine brothers and one sister; predeceased by sister Marguerite and parents Alfred and Yvonne Bouillon. She will also be missed by her kind neighbours. Rita was a member of the Optimist Club of Oshawa for several years. Many thanks to the incredible nursing, medical, and support staff at both the Whitby Dialysis Centre and Lakeridge Health Oshawa Oncology Dept. for their genuine care and compassion. She will always be remembered for her creativity, courage, and strength of character. If desired, expressions of sympathy may be made through donations to the Lakeridge Health Oshawa Oncology Dept. or to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. (just north of 401 at the lights) on Monday, July 29, at 2:00 p.m., followed by Interment of her urn at Bond Head Cemetery, Newcastle. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service. After a lengthy illness, at the Ajax Pickering Hospital on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at the age of 54. George, loving brother of Terry Fernandes and Suzanne Maloney. Loving and devoted uncle of Kevin and Kelly Maloney. Dearly loved friend to many who will miss him very much. Friends will be received at the Accettone Funeral Home, 384 Finley Ave., Ajax on Saturday, July 27, 2002 from 2 p.m. until time of service in the Chapel at 3 p.m. Donations to the Hospital for Sick Children (Cancer Research) would be appreciated.

HOFFMAN, William Adam -

At Soldier s Memorial Hospital, Orillia, on Tuesday, July 23, 2002. Bill Hoffman of Beaverton was the beloved husband of Dorothy (HolIer/Skuta) Hoffman.v Stepfather of Russell Skuta of Brampton. Grandfather of Andrew Skuta of Beaverton. Uncle and great-uncle of Bill (Pam) Burnett and their son Billy Jr. of Toronto, Pat Quinn of Florida and her daughter Jacqueline Drummond of Peterborough. A memorial service will be held at the Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton (705-426-5777) on Saturday at 1 p.m. No flowers. KOWALSKY, Dr. Nicholas -

Peacefully at home, on July 23, 2002, surrounded by his family. Loving husband of Alexandra (nee Yashan), devoted father of Tania and husband Bohdan Onyschuk, Christina and husband Victor Moskaliuk, George and wife Debra, Andrew and wife Millie, and Mark. Proud Dido of Motria, Tamara, Katerina, Julia, Nicholas, Alexander, Tamarka, Stephanie and Danylo. Will be missed by all his relatives in Canada and Ukraine. Born October 27, 1915 in Bohatyr, Ukraine. After immigrating to Canada from Ukraine, he opened a medical practice in Hafford, Saskatchewan. He fondly remembered his time out west and often reminisced about the comfort of a small town atmosphere. In 1961, he moved with his family to Toronto. He became Chief Resident of General Practice at Mt. Sinai Hospital and was later asked to start their Family Practice Unit. However, he missed the appeal of a smaller town and moved his practice to Oshawa. Here, as a cornerstone of the community and Oshawa General Hospital he spent almost 40 years in a busy, rewarding practice. He will be remembered as a dedicated, hard working physician and a pillar of the Ukrainian and Canadian communities in both Oshawa and Toronto. He touched not only those he healed but also the families of the thousands of children he helped bring into this world. Visitation on Wednesday July 24, 6 - 8 p.m. and Thursday July 25, 3 - 5 p.m. at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St. (near Keele St.), Toronto. Panachyda on Wednesday and Thursday at 8 p.m. Funeral service and Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 26 at St. Josaphat's Cathedral, 143 Franklin Ave. Toronto. Interment at Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requestthat donations be made to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada or the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre on Larose Avenue.

RYAN Pauline B. -

(Member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 43). The song has ended, but the melody lingers on. Pauline left this world on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Lakeridge Health Corp. Port Perry, after fighting a good fight against cancer. Pauline exhibited strength and tenacity over the past four years, by giving everything shehad. She has been re-united with her son Stephen Smith. She leaves behind her daughter, best friend and comrade, Tracey Ryan of Whitby. Pauline is also survived by her older daughter Susan Harrison of Albert County, NB, her sisters, Margaret Elderkin and her late husband Doug, Lillian Fridge and her husband Robert, Ethel Milton and her husband Dick, her brother Junior Steeves and his wife Theresa, and her niece Brenda Barnes. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation. It is with great sadness that Elda Mae Villeneuve has passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton on July 23, 2002. She was born September 24, 1920 in Meaford, Ontario. Predeceased by her husband Edward James Villeneuve. Predeceased by her parents Russell and Myrtle Moore. Much loved mother of Rosemarie McNamee and her husband Ian of Whitby, Lynda Morrison and her husband Aaron of Peterborough, Elizabeth Powell of Whitby and Cheryl Violo and her husband Elio of Hamilton. Fondly remembered by her sister Dele Armstrong and her husband Terry of Owen Sound and brother Ron Moore of Owen Sound and Tom Moore and his wife Sharon of Goderich. Loved grandmother and step-grandmother to Jay, Sara, Joy, Shannon, Erin, Lisa, Thomas, Jason & Christopher. Step-mother to Beverley Middlemiss and husband Eric of Oxford Mills, Robert Villeneuve of Oakville and their children. The family will receive friends at W.C.
