Christopher Randy Alires
Christopher Randy Alires died suddenly, Thursday, Oct. 5,
at St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster. He was 40
years old. He was born in Antonito, Colo., on Jan. 29, 1966.
His parents are Charles R. Alires and the late Lucy A.
Sandoval Alires.
Randy, as he was known, went to first grade in Antonito
and then the family moved to Leadville where he graduated
from Lake County High School. Alires then served his
country in the United States Army. Following his return
from the service, he went to work as a construction worker.
Alires enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle,
and he also loved watching football, especially the Broncos.
But his greatest pleasure was spending time with his sons
and new granddaughter.
Alires was preceded in death by his mother Lucy Alires;
step-mother Minnie Alires; and his brother Carl Alires. He is
survived by his sons, Randy Wilford Alires and Steven
Anthony Alires, both in Westminster; his father Charles
Alires in Grand Junction, and his granddaughter, Angelina
Danine Alires in Westminster. He is also survived by three
sisters, Roberta (Billy) Sandoval, Joanne and Lucy May
Sandoval, as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
The Rosary was recited on Monday, Oct. 9, and Mass of
Christian Burial was Tuesday, Oct. 10. Father Bill Rhinehart
officiated, and Joan Dawson sang, accompanied by Beverly
Pologar.
Alires was laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery with
committal services by the Buena Vista V.F.W. Post #55.
Pallbearers were Nicholas Abeyta, Lawrence Alires, Meryl
and Paul Dohrmann, Matthew and Raymond Gallegos,
Tommy Jaramillo and William Farmer.
Following the interment, the family received friends at a
reception at the Eagles Lodge.
Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home.

Carolyn Elizabeth Kasten
Carolyn Elizabeth Kasten died Friday, Oct. 6, at her home in
Leadville. She was 80 years old. She was born in Leadville
on Nov. 1, 1925. Her parents were the late Carl F. and
Elizabeth (Schaefer) Schaefer.
Kasten went to school in Leadville, graduating from
Leadville High School.
On Oct. 13, 1950, she married Max L. Kasten in Salida.
Years later, the couple renewed their vows at Annunciation
Catholic Church in Leadville.
Kasten was an accomplished knitter and loved working on
afghans for family and friends. She was a wonderful cook
and an excellent bowler. Kasten bowled on leagues in both
Leadville and Denver. Her family also remembers the fun
she had gambling.
Kasten took care of her mother, Elizabeth, for 25 years until
her death and has taken care of her brother Harry for the
past 50 years as well.
Kasten was a life-long member of Annunciation Catholic
Church and belonged to both Catholic Daughters and the
Alter & Rosary Society.
A member of the Leadville Eagles Lodge, Kasten was the
first president of the Auxiliary.
Kasten’s son remembers his mother as being a “mother to
Leadville.” She was very involved as a “homeroom mother”
in school and den mother in the Cub Scouts.
Kasten was preceded in death by her parents and six
siblings, Ernie, Ted, Paul and Leonard Schaefer, Frieda
Fabian and Bertha Brandt. She is survived by her husband,
Max L. Kasten in Leadville; her son, Mike (Cheryl) Kasten in
Platteville, and grandchildren, Matthew Cody, Nicholas
Aaron and Kyle Eugene Kasten, all in Platteville. She is also
survived by one sister, Lilly Koski in Pueblo; her brother
Harry Schaefer in Leadville, sister-in-law Johanna Schaefer
and numerous other relatives.
According to her wishes, Kasten was cremated. A memorial
service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. at
Annunciation Catholic Church. Father Bill Rhinehart
officiated along with services by the Leadville Eagles
Auxiliary. Joan Dawson sang, accompanied by Jean Elliott.
Services concluded at the church, and a reception was held
at the Leadville Elks Lodge.
Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home.

Raymond Street Reigner
Raymond Street Reigner of Leadville passed away Oct. 8 due
to a recent diagnosis of cancer.
He was an active resident of Leadville for seven years and
owner of Snow Country Appliance.
He was a past president and officer of the Leadville Eagles
Lodge, a member of the Leadville Elks Lodge, Copper Mountain
Slope Watch and National Rifle Association. He was an avid
skier and loved camping, biking, hunting, rafting and
collecting guns.
Reigner attended MIT and Georgia Tech, worked for Factory
Mutual Insurance and retired from Kemper Insurance, both
in Atlanta, Ga.
He is survived by his wife Sandra; mother Donna of
Atlanta; daughter Taschia (Victor) Salas and granddaughter
Acacia of Leadville; step-son Michael (Nicole) Weksler and
grandson Travis of Portland, Ore.; brothers Tom (Peggy)
and Roger (Karen) of Atlanta, Ga., Ron of Carrollton, Ga.,
and Don (Dori) of Baltimore, Md.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Street.
Memorial service will be held at the Leadville Eagles Lodge,
Saturday, Oct. 14, at noon.

Charles Emil “Bick” Wicklund
Charles Wicklund, 81, formerly of Pueblo, passed away on
Aug. 20, in Fountain Hills, Ariz.
He was born in Leadville to Ed and Elizabeth (Damjanovich)
Wicklund on Jan. 21, 1925. He attended Leadville High
School, served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the
30th Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star for
bravery. After the war, he worked at the Resurrection Mine
and the Yak. Bick, as he was known, enjoyed cars, polka
dancing and wood carving. He enjoyed life and lived it to
the fullest. His desire in life was to make people happy and
leave them with a smile on their face.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Elizabeth
Wicklund and his wife Stella Cain-Wicklund. He is survived
by his sister, Virginia (David) Brady, Ventura, Calif.;
daughters, Jan (Tom Trout) McFarland, Peoria, Ariz.; Bonnie
(Jim) Smith, Boerne, Texas; and Lori (Jeff) Bentley,
Fountain Hills, Ariz.; stepchildren, Connie (John) Wilbar,
Pueblo; Jim (Eileen) Cain, Canon City; Doug (Theresa) Cain,
Lakewood; Carol (Stan) Lettrich, Illinois; and Chris (Lynn)
Cain, Lakewood; nieces, Joy (Charles) Jasko, San Francisco,
Calif.; Cathy (David) Krushell, Ventura, Calif.; Nancy
(Randy) Garate, Chico, Calif.; Barbara (Bryan) Summers,
Red Bluff, Calif.; nephew, Laurence (Donna) Brady,
Leadville. He is also survived by six grandchildren and
several cousins in Leadville.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in
Pueblo for more than 20 years. The Mass of Christian Burial
was celebrated on Aug. 24, officiated by Father Ben Bacino,
with horn and vocal music provided by Laurence Brady,
accompanied by Peggy Wallace.
The Romero Family Funeral Home, Pueblo, handled the
arrangements, with interment at Imperial Cemetery.
Military honors were provided by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual
Team.
Donations may be made to the Sangre de Cristo Hospice in
Pueblo or Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, Ariz.

Walter Carson “Walt” Clotworthy
Walter Carson “Walt” Clotworthy died Tuesday, Oct. 10, at
Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mo. He
was 83 years old.
Clotworthy was born in Longmont, on March 20, 1923. His
parents were the late Walter Samuel and Ellenor Elizabeth
(Brown) Clotworthy.
Clotworthy served in the United States Air Force in the
China, Burma, India Theater during World War II.
He married the former Margaret “Marge” Helen Dunfee and
together they had three children.
Clotworthy was a self-employed rancher all his life. He was
a 35-year member of the 1st United Presbyterian Church in
Leadville, and after moving to Ordway, several years ago,
became a member of the United Methodist Church there.
He belonged to Elks Lodge #492 in Ouray, served on the
Soil Conservation Board and the ASCA Board and was the
deputy water commissioner for Division 2 Water District in
Colorado.
The Clotworthys had just moved to St. Joseph, Mo., in June
of 2006 to be near family.
To say Clotworthy was a “colorful character” would be an
understatement. There are few who knew him who couldn’t
come up with a humorous story to tell about him. He was
an extremely friendly and easy-going man who was a very
good husband, father and friend.
Clotworthy was preceded in death by his parents and his
granddaughter, April Annell Clotworthy. He is survived by
his wife in St. Joseph, Mo.; two sons, James (Diane)
Clotworthy of Price , Utah, and Robert (Sherrie) Clotworthy
of Spring Creek, Nev.; daughter, Annell M. (Winston) Cocke
and of St. Joseph, Mo.; sister Jo Ellen McKinney, of
Norwood; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews.
According to his wishes, Clotworthy was cremated, and his
family is planning a memorial service in Colorado in the
spring.
