Carol Barbara (Griffin) Teich
Carol Barbara (Griffin) Teich, 88, formerly of New Britain, widow of Louis L. Teich, died Sunday (March 10, 2002) at Caleb Hitchcock, Duncaster, in Bloomfield. Born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Fred and the late Bertha (Shattuck) Griffin, she attended LaSalle Seminary (now LaSalle College) in Auburndale, Massachusetts, and spent the later part of her life in West Hartford, and Bloomfield. She was a former member of South Congregational – First Baptist Church in New Britain, and was member of the Universalist Church in West Hartford. She leaves two children Paul M. Teich of Madison, and Linda T. Bennett of Kingman, Arizona, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald C. Griffin, and Charles Griffin Sr., and two sisters, Freda Leining, and Marion Wolcott. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Virginia Hope Tallard
Virginia Hope Tallard, 97, of 975 Corbin Avenue, New Britain, CT, formerly of South Mountain Drive, died Saturday morning (April 6, 2002). Born in Torrington, the daughter of the late Henry S. and the late Ella M. (Smart) Tallard, she graduated from New Britain High School in 1922, from New Britain Normal School (now C.C.S.U.) in 1924, from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1931, and received her Masters degree from Trinity College in 1939. She taught at Lincoln Elementary School from 1924 until 1926, at Central Junior High School from 1928 until 1931, at Nathan Hale Junior High School from 1933 until 1934, and at New Britain Senior High School from 1934 until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of South Congregational – First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Association, the New Britain College Club, the New Britain Women’s Club, the Connecticut Retired Teachers’ Association, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Britain Boys’ and Girls’ Club. She is survived by three nephews, Arthur Franklin Greene of Littleton, New Hampshire, W. Capewell Greene Jr. of Antigua, West Indies, and Marshall T. Greene of Old Lyme, three grandnieces, and three grandnephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Imogene (Tallard) Greene. A memorial service will take place Monday (April 15, 2002) at 1pm in the Erwin Chapel at South Congregational – First Baptist Church. Burial in East Windsor Cemetery, Windsorville, will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Memorial Fund of South Congregational – First Baptist Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain 06051.

Richard Sayles Swanson
Richard Sayles Swanson, 81, of 116 Cherry Hill Terrace, Berlin, CT, formerly of Percival Avenue, Kensington, CT, the husband of V. Renee Swanson, died Monday morning (July 1, 2002) at his home. Born in Plainfield, the son of the late Rudolph G. and Margaret (Taylor) Swanson, he served in US Army in China in WWII where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, lived in Southington and Berlin since 1958, and was employed at New Britain Machine Company until his retirement. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in East Berlin, Cornerstone-Quinebaug Lodge #122 A.F.&A.M., the Republican Town Committee, and the Charter Revision Commission in the Town of Berlin in both 1990 and 1992. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jonathan W. Swanson of Durham, two daughters, Suzanne M. Swanson of Berlin, and Kristin S. Tholke of Falmouth, Massachusetts, and four grandchildren. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at 1pm in Munyan Cemetery, Munyan Road, East Putnam. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, on Wednesday morning (July 3, 2002) from 9-10am.

Janet (Phelps) Stocks
EAST BERLIN - Janet (Phelps) Stocks, 90, of 207 Stony Mill Lane, the widow of Sherman Wheelock Stocks, died Tuesday morning (July 10, 2001) at home. Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, she graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York, attended the graduate school of Columbia University, and taught at Roger Ludlow School in Fairfield, Connecticut. She was a member of South Congregational - First Baptist Church in New Britain, the Shuttle Meadow Country Club where she was an avid golfer, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Stocks Benford of East Berlin, a sister, Lucille Laszlow of Sandy Hook, a sister-in-law, June S. MacPhearson of Madison, three nieces, Polly Brody of Southbury, Ilona Higgins in Hawaii, and Lezlie C. Desmond of Old Saybrook, and two nephews, Phelps Laszlow in New Hampshire, and Richard S. Carlson of Madison. Private graveside services in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Connecticut, 33 North Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT 06492. Porter’s Funeral Service in Kensington is in charge of arrangements.

Stella "Sally" C. (Yaskolka) Slowik
KENSINGTON – Stella "Sally" C. (Yaskolka) Slowik, 85, formerly of Homecrest Drive, the widow of Frank M. Slowik Sr., died Saturday night (April 5, 2003) at a local convalescent home. Born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Adolph and the late Lottie (Brozozowski) Yaskolka, she was employed at Landers, Frary, and Clark until her retirement, and was a member of St. Paul’s Church. She is survived by a son, Frank M. Slowik of Westbrook, two daughters, Barbara Crespo of Stamford, and Lois Slowik of Kensington, three sisters, Genevieve Mamone, Mary Gallo, and Marcella Iscovitz, all in Florida, five grandchildren, Jeffrey Slowik and his wife Regina, Christopher Slowik, and David, Alan, and Valerie Crespo, one great-grandchild, Frank Crespo, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, two brothers, and a grandchild. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (April 9, 2003) at 9:30am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning (April 9, 2003) from 8:30am until the departure to church.

Cecilia M. (Izzo) Simeone
KENSINGTON – Cecilia M. (Izzo) Simeone, 91, of 54 Baxter Avenue, widow of Paolo Simeone, died Friday (December 28, 2001) at a local convalescent home. Born in Province Caserta, Italy, the daughter of Salvatore and Clementina (Riso) Izzo, she has lived in Kensington since 1955, and was a member of St. Paul’s Church, and St. Ann’s Society. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Albino and Carol Simeone of Kensington, Mario a Lorraine Simeone in Florida, and John Simeone in Ohio, a daughter and a son-in-law, Josephine and Benedetto Feole of Kensington, twelve grandchildren, Paul, Mario, Bobby Michael, Christopher, and Shana Simeone, Ceil Biscoglio, Lynn Addamo, Lori Biello, Michele McClure, Emilia Roberts, and Rita Negrao, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday (December 31, 2001) at 12noon from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 1pm at St. Paul Church on Alling Street. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home Sunday (December 30, 2001) from 4-7pm. Those who wish may make donations to the Welfare Fund of the Berlin Lions Club, P.O. Box 23, Kensington 06037.

Eddie Hugh Ellison
NEW BRITAIN – Eddie Hugh Ellison, 78, of Chestnut Street, died early Saturday morning (September 25, 2004) in New Jersey. Born in Hollywood, Alabama, the son of the late Elijah and the late Eula (Allison) Ellison, he was employed at Howard Cleaners in New Britain for 42 years before his retirement. He was a member of Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as a steward for many years, Pride of Connecticut Lodge #1437, and Ionic Lodge #7 Prince Hall, and he was known for lending a helping hand to others. He is survived by two daughters, Edwina Lebby and Felicia Willis, both of New Britain, two brothers, William Ellison of Bristol, and Emmett Ellison of New Britain, four sisters, The Rev. Nannie Lampkin, Jannie Scott, and Anna Edwards, all of New Britain, and Ida Mae Coffey of Hollywood, Alabama, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be held Thursday (September 30, 2004) at 11am at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Church on Wednesday (September 29, 2004) from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the Memorial Fund of Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, 25 Crestwood Lane, New Britain 06053.
