Frank R. Ballard, 77, was New Milford resident
Frank R. Ballard, 77, of New Milford died Dec. 3 at New Milford Nursing Home. He was divorced and had no children.
Mr. Ballard was a Marine and a World War II veteran, having entered the service when he was 17.
In recent years, Mr. Ballard sponsored an annual celebration each November at the Marble Dale Pub to honor the anniversary of the Marines. He attended each the event year dressed in full uniform, and always asked a member of the religious community to offer a prayer.
Mr. Ballard was unable to sponsor the event this year due to health concerns.
Mr. Ballard was one of several local veterans who received his high school diploma in New Milford in June 2001. He recited a poem during the commencement exercises.
He was known in the community for his wood-cutting abilities. He had one of the first log-splitters in Litchfield County. After he cut wood, his dog would carry it inside the house.
Mr. Ballard is survived by four siblings, Roberta Weider of New Hartford, Richard Ballard of Rochester, N.Y., James Ballard of New Orleans, and Ronald Ballard of Roxbury.
Funeral services will take place at a date to be announced.
The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford is in charge of the arrangements.
Burial will take place in a family plot in a cemetery in Bakersville.

Richard Morris, 77, was father of New Milfordite
Richard Morris, 77, a longtime Stamford resident, died Dec. 1 at the Greenwich Woods Health Care Center. He was the widower of Edna (Cutler) Morris.
Mr. Morris was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Meriden, the son of the late Charles A. Nott and Helen Elizabeth Morris.
He was a World War II veteran and a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Air Corps.
He later graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering.
He was the owner and operator of Richard Morris Inc. in Stamford from 1951 to 1993. He was an active member of the North Stamford Congregational Church, where he was a trustee and an honorary trustee.
Mr. Morris is survived by three daughters, DJ Shaw of New Milford, Linda Hazzard of Bethel and Kathy of Stamford; three sons, Kenneth of Danbury, Richard of Plymouth and David of Stamford; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The Bouton & Reynolds Funeral Home of Stamford was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the North Stamford Congregational Church, 31 Cascade Road, Stamford.
Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 607 Main Ave., Norwalk, CT.

Deanna Delgiudice, 64, was New Milford resident
Deanna C. (Pisco) Delgiudice, 64, of New Milford, formerly of Danbury, died Dec. 1 at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford.
Mrs. Delgiudice was born Nov. 29, 1938, in Wildwood, N.J., daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina (Orsini) Pisco.
She attended Danbury schools and had worked throughout the Danbury area as a certified nurse assistant prior to her illness.
She is survived by four daughters, Sheila Cormier of New Brunswick, Canada, Cindy Mac Donald of Mission Viejo, Calif., Kim Santoro of Danbury and Penny Ljungquist of Bristol; four sisters, Josephine Pisco, Arlene Blunt and Angelina Ruggiero of Danbury, and Joann Cormier of Merrillville, Ind.; a brother, Joseph Pisco of Marlboro, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gene Ljungquist and a sister, Palma Smith.
Cremation Services of Western Connecticut was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Popilowski, was retiree of Kimberly-Clark
Mary C. Popilowski of 77 Chapin Road, New Milford, died Nov. 29 at her home. She was the wife of Zigmunt Popilowski.
Mrs. Popilowski was born in Fairlawn, N.J., daughter of the late Dominick and Mary (Bieksza) Dailida.
She worked for Kimberly-Clark Corp. for 31 years, retiring in 1991.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Richard of Avon; a daughter, Kathryn O’Sullivan of Farmington; a sister, Anna Neal of Wayne, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held today (Friday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford. A Mass will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Janice M. Monger, 59, worked in New Milford
Janice M. (Kalin) Monger, 59, of Danbury died Dec. 1 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Price Frederick, Md. She was the wife of Fred Monger.
Mrs. Monger was born Dec. 9, 1942. She was formerly of Norwich and Mystic.
She was an in-home caregiver to many in the New Milford area. She loved animals, gardening, flowers and traveling.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Melissa Willis of Jewett City and Patricia Mullins of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Jeff Arender of Palm Springs, Calif.; two stepchildren, Jennifer Gogal of Kunkletown, Pa., and Scott of Danbury; and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Frances Koeble, 83, was a New Milford resident
Frances Martha “Oma” (Schablitzky) Koeble, 83, of New Milford died Dec. 2 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Eric Koeble.
Mrs. Koeble was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Junkerath, Germany, to Maximillian and Elizabeth (Tomerla) Schablitzky. She was the youngest of nine children.
Mrs. Koeble was an avid gymnast when she lived in Germany. She came to the U.S. at age 17 and lived in an apartment in New York City’s MacDougal Alley. She was employed for several years as a domestic engineer and worked for the governor of Pennsylvania.
She followed her husband throughout his various assignments while stationed at different bases throughout the U.S.
The couple later settled in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. She became an avid swimmer, specializing in double back flips. She won many swimming awards at the YMCA in Jamaica.
The Koebles moved to Lake Carmel, N.Y., in 1972 and stayed there until 1990, when they relocated to New Milford. She attended St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in New Milford.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda and her husband Tomm Sprick of New Milford and Ingrid Church of Fort Mill, S.C.; two grandsons, Edward Noonan and his fiancée Karen Andrews of New Milford and John Church and his wife Shannon of York, S.C.; a granddaughter, Christine Varadi and her husband Mark of Oak Ridge, N.C.; and two great-grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Church of York.
The Colonial Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Norma Hyde, 87, was active in Kent community
Norma (Fiengo) Hyde, 87, formerly of Kent, died Nov. 25 in Rockville, Md. She was the widow of William W. Hyde.
Mrs. Hyde was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Mary (De Felice) Fiengo. She was educated locally.
Mrs. Hyde served as a registrar of voters in Kent, was on the Kent Center School Board of Education, and was active in the Kent PTA and the Kent Nursing Association.
During World War II, she was an airplane spotter and was featured in a Life Magazine article at that time.
She was involved with the operation of the Pewter Mug Restaurant, which was owned by her parents.
Both she and her husband were reporters for The Republican-American in Waterbury and The News-Times in Danbury.
Mrs. Hyde is survived by a son, David; two daughters, Elizabeth “Heidi” Mischou and Barbara Hyde of the Rockville area; three brothers, Eugene Fiengo of Kent, Robert Fiengo of Lakeville and Charles Fiengo of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by a brother, Pasquale, and a sister, Angelica.
Pumphrey’s Colonial Funeral Home in Rockville was in charge of arrangements.

Rosemary Rohner, 55, sister of Washington man
Rosemary Rohner, 55, of Plattsburg, Mo., died Nov. 28 in Fort Smith, Ark. She was the wife of Robert E. Rohner Jr.
Mrs. Rohner was born Feb. 9, 1947, in Danbury, daughter of Charles and Marion Woodruff of Washington Depot.
She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in art education and from Thames Valley Technical School with a degree in computer science. She was a senior system analyst with State Street Corp.
She lived in the Plattsburg area for the past 15 years and was a member of the Plattsburg Saddle Club, Missouri Brittany Club and the Kansas City Regional Fox Trotter Association.
Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Rohner is survived by a son, Robert III of Virginia; a daughter, Margaret of Plattsburg; two brothers, Thomas Woodruff of Gallintin Gateway, Mont., and Jonathan Woodruff of Washington Depot; a sister, Christine Davis of Bantam; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at Salem Covenant Church, Baldwin Hill Road, Washington Depot.

Yolanda Anderson, 77, was a resident of Kent
Yolanda A. Anderson, 77, died Nov. 30 at The Kent Specialty Care Home in Kent. She was the wife of Rodney A. Anderson of Ridgefield.
Mrs. Anderson was born Aug. 5, 1925, in Beaver Falls, Pa., the daughter of Battista and Angelina (Gusseti) Annoni.
She was educated in Bethel schools. In her early years, she worked as an operator for Western Union.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ridgefield. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and visiting Vermont.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Anderson is survived by a son, James of Ridgefield; two daughters, Cynthia Serra of Sebastian, Fla., and Sandra Howell of Danbury; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Rochester, Vt.
The Day Funeral Home of Randolph, Vt., is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Trenka, 84, had worked at Burndy Corp.
Helen (Keating) Trenka, 84, of 304 Calhoun St., Washington, died Nov. 29 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Alex J. Trenka.
Mrs. Trenka was born July 10, 1918, in Danbury, a daughter of the late Thomas and Nellie (Griffin) Keating.
She worked for 17 years as a supervisor for Burndy Corp. in New Milford, retiring in 1989.
She is survived by a nephew, Robert McNulty of Danbury; two nieces, Jean Minck and Ann Moffa of Newtown; and several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
The Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford is in charge of the arrangements.
