Stephen P. Signore
Stephen P. Signore, 50, brother of Joanne Didonato of Sandy Hook, died Friday at Griffen Hospital in Derby.

Mr. Signore lived at 1611 Washington Blvd., Stamford.

He was born in Covington, Ky., on Nov. 21, 1946, a son of Alma Bass Signore of Waterbury and the late Stephen J. Signore.

A graduate of Kaynor Technical School in Waterbury, he received an associate's degree from Waterbury State Technical College and a bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State College.

Mr. Signore severed with the U.S. Army Reserve.

He was employed as a sales manager at Holoyke Fitting Inc.

Besides his mother and sister, Mr. Signore is survived by two sons, Jason Signore of Virginia and Dean Ragland of California; a daughter, Diana Ragland of California; several aunts and uncles; two nieces; and his companion, Caryl Meeks of Stamford.

CALLING HOURS: Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury.

Michael D. Strusky Jr.
Michael D. Strusky Jr., 82, a retired hatter, died Sunday at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Strusky, of 51 Lincoln Ave., Danbury, was the husband of Julia Kastuk Strusky.

Born in Portland, Maine, on Oct. 8, 1914, he was a son of Michael and Stella Skworciany Strusky Sr. He had been a resident of Danbury since moving from Maine in 1920.

Before his retirement in 1978, Mr. Strusky worked in various Danbury hatting shops for more than 46 years. He was last employed by the former Mallory Hat Shop.

He was a member of St. Peter Church.

Besides his wife, Mr. Strusky is survived by a son, Michael A. Strusky of Carmel, Ind.; three daughters, Taffy Kachur, Nancy Strusky and Stacey Wencek, all of Danbury; three brothers, Joseph Strucky and Stanley Strusky, both of Danbury, and Ed Struski of Bethel; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Hanahoe Memorial Children's Clinic, 205 Main St., Danbury 06810.

There are no calling hours.

SERVICES: Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., committal services at St. Peter Cemetery.

Anne T. LaRocco
Anne T. Shanley LaRocco, 67, a former president of the Heritage Village Women's Club, died Sunday at her home at 331-E Heritage Village, Southbury.

Mrs. LaRocco was the wife of Anthony J. LaRocco.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on March 6, 1930, a daughter of Francis and Helen Walsh Shanley.

Before moving to Heritage Village in 1986, Mrs. LaRocco had lived in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., for more than 20 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Southbury.

Besides her husband, Mrs. LaRocco is survived by a son, Anthony LaRocco Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; five daughters, Jeanne T. LaRocco of Atlanta, Gail Ryder of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., Barbara LaRocco of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mary and Patricia LaRocco, both of Manhattan, N.Y.; three sisters, Eileen Knopp of Yorktown Heights, Frances Healy of Croton on Hudson, N.Y., and Maureen O'Connor of West Harrison, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Lupus Foundation of America, Connecticut Chapter, 45 South Main St., West Hartford, CT 06107.

CALLING HOURS: Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the daily chapel of Sacred Heart Church, Main Street South, Southbury.

SERVICES: Tuesday at 11 a.m., a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Robert A. Lashinger
Robert A. Lashinger, 82, a retired employee of the former National Can Company in Danbury, died Sunday at the W.W. Backus Memorial Hospital in Norwich, Conn.

A resident of Danbury for several years, Mr. Lashinger lived at Crest Road. He was the husband of Ann Markosky Lashinger.

He was born in St. Lambert, Canada, July 14, 1914, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew P. Lashinger. He moved to Bethel as a child and was a graduate of Bethel High School.

Before his retirement from the National Can Co., Mr. Lashinger had also been employed as a sales representative for the former Diamond Ginger Ale Company.

Besides his wife, Mr. Lashinger's survivors include a daughter, Sheryll Boyce of Fairfield, Conn.; a son, Robert J. Lashinger of Cazadoro, Calif.; two granddaughters; and a grandson.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

There are no calling hours.

Private services and cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Mae E. Garofalo
Mae E. Gibbons Garofalo, 89, of 12 Terre Haute Road, Danbury, died Sunday at the Bethel Health Care Center.

Mrs. Garofalo was the wife of the late Achillies Garofalo.

She was born in New York, N.Y., on Dec. 22, 1907, a daughter of William and Mary Gibbons.

Her survivors include three sons, Ken of Danbury, Ralph of Mississippi, and William of Florida; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Garofalo was predeceased in 1992 by her daughter, Bernadette Ferris.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home; followed at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Church. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery.

Lois J. Undella
Lois J. Green Undella, a lifelong Danbury resident, died Sunday at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Undella, of 2 Wixted Avenue, was the wife of Burton J. Undella. Mr. and Mrs. Undella would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on May 2.

Born in Danbury, she was a daughter of Morgan and Mary Green Green. She attended Danbury schools.

Before her retirement, Mrs. Undella was employed by the Barden Corp.

Mrs. Undella had been very active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion had served on the Child Welfare Committee for 25 years, she was also a past president of the local chapter and had served as chaplain for the state chapter.

She was also a member of St. Peter's Church.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Undella is survived by a son, Ronald Undella of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Joyce Undella of Monroe, Conn.; three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Doris M. Olbert
Doris M. Olbert, 78, mother of John Olbert of New Fairfield, died Sunday in Austin, Texas.

Mrs. Olbert was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and was a longtime resident of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.

Besides her son in New Fairfield, Mrs. Olbert is survived by three other children.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, N.Y. 10602, or to the Parkinson Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032.

Miriam R. Pasternack
Miriam Ryan Pasternack, 75, a retired Ridgefield elementary school teacher, died Monday at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Pasternack, of 6 Hulda Lane, Ridgefield, was the wife of the late Nicholas P. Pasternack.

A Ridgefield resident since 1967, she previously lived in Winterpark, Fla. She had also traveled extensively around the world.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass., May 11, 1921, a daughter of John and Ragna Annette Jacobsen Ryan.

Mrs. Pasternack received her bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's College in West Hartford, Conn., her master's degree in education from Rollins College in Winterpark, Fla., and her sixth year certificate from Western Connecticut State University. She had completed the academic portion of her E.Ed. at New York University.

Before her retirement in the early 1980s, Mrs. Pasternack had been employed by the Ridgefield public school system for 15 years. She taught at Veterans Park School, Branchville School and Farmingville School.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Ridgefield, the Connecticut Education Association and the National Education Association.

Following her retirement, she worked for Meals-on-Wheels in Danbury and at the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield.

Mrs. Pasternack is survived by three sons, Michael B. Pasternack of Danbury, Vincent DePaul L. Pasternack of Providence, R.I., and Stefan P. Pasternack of Tampa, Fla.; four daughters, Maria T. Hardin of Ridgefield, Martha E. Rhodes of Danbury, Nicole Pasternack-Sheck of Goldens Bridge, N.Y., and Annette P. Lanotte of Sea Cliff, N.Y.; two sisters, Margaret Casey of Simsbury, Conn., and Marie McDonough of Nashua, N.H.; and 14 grandchildren.

Pauline K. Washburn
Pauline K. Washburn, 95, an area resident for the past 80 years, died Sunday at the New Milford Nursing Home.

Mrs. Washburn was the wife of the late Nelson Washburn. She formerly lived at 51 Main St., Danbury.

Born in New York City, she was a daughter of Joseph and Marie Hoyenski. She attended New York City schools.

She moved to Bethel at the age of 15 and had been an area resident since that time.

Mrs. Washburn is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Osborne of Homosassa, Fla., Margaret Warren of Cascade, Md., and Edna Merrill of Virginia Beach, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

CALLING HOURS: Wednesday from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

SERVICES: Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., graveside services in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

Meta Jo Greene
Meta Jo Greene, 76, a resident of Danbury for the past 11 years, died April 19 at her home at 3 Arch Street.

Mrs. Greene was the wife of the late A. Richard Greene.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., July 24, 1920, she was a daughter of Oda Citron and Solomon Dingol. She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School and the Pratt Institute of Fine Arts.

For many years, Mrs. Greene managed her husband's law practice in New York.

She was an accomplished calligrapher and also enjoyed playing the piano and collecting stamps.

Her survivors include two daughters, Barbara McIntyre of Danbury and Robin Sperling of Ogdensburg, N.Y.; three sons, Michael of Lafayette, Calif., Gordon of Holmes, of New York, and David of Palo Alto, Calif.; two sisters, Esther D. Mallach of Maplewood, N.J., and Eve D. Ossoff of Holbrook, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury 06810.

Private services were conducted at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton, N.J.

The Ballard-Durand Funeral Home of White Plains, N.Y., was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine A. Horberg
Catherine Alice Horberg, 70, a former resident of the Danbury area, died Monday at Cox Medical Center, Springfield, Mo.

She had been living in Mountain View, Mo., and was the wife of Robert August Horberg, whom she married in New Fairfield on Oct. 15, 1949.

Mrs. Horberg was born in Willimantic, Conn., on Feb. 2, 1927. She was a 1944 graduate of Danbury High School and had been a member of the First Congregational Church of New Fairfield, the AARP and the Company A Fire Department Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Horberg is survived by two sons, Karl Horberg of Danbury and Erik Horberg of Waynesville, Mo.; three daughters, Karen Reiske and Deborah Horberg, both of Danbury, and Linda Logan of Stormville, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Elvira P. Manare
Elvira Pocchiare Manare, 86, of Staples Street, Danbury, died Tuesday at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Manare was the wife of the late Michael Pocchiare.

She was born in Italy on Sept. 5, 1910, a daughter of Gabriel and Jenny DeRosa.

Before moving to Danbury three years ago, she had lived in the Bronx, N.Y.

Her survivors include two daughters, Judy Schneider of Hallandale, Fla., and Adele Turk of Danbury; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Rite Felicione.

Paul J. Zenobia

Paul J. Zenobia, 78, a retired real estate broker and former Danbury resident, died March 19 as a result of injuries suffered in a traffic accident on that day.

A resident of Colorado Springs, Colo., since 1953, he was the husband of Peggy Comstock Zenobia.

He was born in Danbury on July 21, 1918, a son of Gaetano and Nicolina Dabastino Zenobia. He attended local schools and was a 1938 graduate of Danbury High School.

Mr. Zenobia was a well-known athlete who had been captain of the DHS varsity football team during the 1937-38 season. He attended Providence College on a football scholarship.

His studies at Providence College were interrupted when he served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years during World War II.

Following his military service, he continued his education at the University of Denver. He settled in the Denver area following his graduation.

Mr. Zenobia made frequent trips east to attend both his high school and Providence College class reunions.

He was active in sports all his life, playing handball into his 70s and continuing to ski and teach others to ski.

Besides his wife, Mr. Zenobia is survived by a daughter, Frances Ann Friesen of Salem, Ore.; two brothers, Patrick M. Zenobia of Port Richey, Fla., and William Zenobia of Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services took place in Colorado Springs.
