Winifred Czajka

Winifred Czajka, 79, of Miami, FL, formerly of Danbury, died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at Mount Sinai Nursing Home in Miami. She was the wife of Matthew Czajka.

Born in Danbury on June 22, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Agnes (Kelly) Gordon.

Mrs. Czajka was employed as a private duty nurse until the time of her retirement. She had resided in Miami for the past 45 years and did volunteer care for the blind.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church in Danbury Monday morning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Frances Healy Burr Arnoys

Frances Healy Burr Arnoys, 94, of Summit Drive, New Milford, CT, widow of Harold Arnoys, died Saturday at New Milford Nursing Home. She was born in Newport News, VA on August 14, 1905, a daughter of the late Anthony and Emma Hinkle Healy.

She spent most of her life in Stratford, Ct. She lived in Orange CT from 1975 to 1997 when she moved to New Milford.

She is survived by a son, Alan L. Burr of New Milford , a brother Robert Healy of Kennebunkport, ME, two sisters; Mary Toussiant of Ansonia, CT, and Anna Fedwick of Stratford, CT, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Arline McDermitt.

Graveside services on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Cemetery in Danbury. There are no calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Thrift Mart of New Milford, Inc. 369 Litchfield Road, New Milford, CT 06776.

Calvin A. Ruehl

Calvin A. Ruehl, 71, husband of Madeleine (Miller) Ruehl, of 12-4 Fairview Drive, Danbury, died in Danbury on Saturday morning following a brief illness.

He was born in Cumberland, Maryland, February 4, 1929, son of the late William and Nellie (Winebrenner) Ruehl. Mr. Ruehl grew up in Cumberland and attended schools there. Mr. Ruehl served with the US Marine Corp. during WW II and during the Korean War. He moved to Danbury in 1954 and has been a Danbury resident since. He was employed at Laser Optics of Bethel and had been a member of the King Street United Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Ruehl is survived by two sons; William K. Ruehl of Danbury and Calvin A. Ruehl, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; a daughter, Sabrina Fuller of Camden, NY; a brother James Ruehl of Bowling Green OH; a sister, Valetta DeWitt of Cumberland, MD, ten grand children and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the King Street United Church of Christ on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Regional Hospice of Western CT, 30 West Street, Danbury, CT 06810. Green Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donald W. Rickert

Donald W. Rickert formerly of Danbury, died May 23, 2000 at the age of 77. He was the husband of Doreen Richard Rickert and lived at 5025 State Road, #54, New Port Richie, FL.

Mr. Rickert was born in Danbury, May 21, 1923, son of the late Harold and Betty Wood Rickert and attended Danbury schools. He was employed as an assistant at the Tomlinson Homestead in Danbury. He was a Veteran of WW II and served in the 4th Marine Division in the South Pacific during WW II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal and the President's Unit Citation. He was a Charter member of the Marine Corp. League and served as it's Connecticut State Commander. He also was a member of DAV and VFW

Besides his wife of thirty-two years he is survived by his son, Terrance of Waterbury and his son, Barry and his wife, Judy, grandsons; Barry II, Bryan and Brendan all of Danbury. His brother Gerald of Naples, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Military Honors. Friends may call at the Cornell, Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m.

John M. Gotthardt

John M. Gotthardt, 38, of 102 East Pembroke Road, Danbury, died at his residence on Friday.

He was born in New Milford, October 8, 1961, son of William F. and Winifred (Lally) Gotthardt, Jr. John grew up in New Fairfield, was a graduate of New Fairfield High School and had received his Bachelor's degree from Western Connecticut State University. He was employed by United Parcel Service in Brookfield. He was a devoted father and enjoyed his family, boating and Nascar racing.

John is survived by two sons: John M. Gotthardt, Jr., and Justin F. Gotthardt, both of Sherman; two sisters, Donna Kruszynski and Darlene Ceresna, both of New Fairfield; two brothers, William F. Gotthardt, III of Danbury and Thomas P. Gotthardt of New Fairfield; his companion, Terri McNamara of Raleigh, NC and seven nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, on Tuesday morning at 11:30. Burial will take place in Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Florence Ada Carman

Florence Ada Carman, 78, a resident of Southbury for the past four years, died on Thursday, June 15, 2000 at the Waterbury Hospital. She had previously made her home in Vista, NY for over 45 years. Mrs. Carman was predeceased by her husband, John A. Carman, Jr., in 1988.

She was born in Stamford, CT on January 16, 1922, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Proffitt Lowden. Mrs. Carman was an active member of Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church, while living in Vista.

Survivors include her four sons; John A. Carman, III of Naugatuck, CT, Robert E. Carman of Southbury, CT, Roger Carman of Norwalk, CT and Donald J. Carman of Danbury, CT; one sister, Margaret Cantrell of Murphy, NC; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Stevens Memorial United Methodist church, Route 123 and Shady Lane, Vista, NY. The Rev. Harold Quigley, Pastor, will officiate. The interment will follow in South Salem Cemetery, South Salem, NY.

Friends may call at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown, on Monday, June 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.

John (Jack) F. Lee

John (Jack) F. Lee was carried into the arms of God on Sunday June 25, 2000, at 8:30 a.m. He lived at 51 Main Street in Danbury.

Mr. Lee was born February 25, 1921, son of the late Joseph T. and Bertha M. Schmidt Lee. He received his education at St. Peter School and graduated from Danbury High class of 1938. He served his country in World War II in the Army. He owned and successfully operated the Lee Machine Co. in Danbury for 50 years. He was a member of St. Peter Church.

John, a loving father and grandfather, is survived by his daughters, Linda Ann Carroll of New Fairfield and Debra Joan Taylor of Shorewood, Wis.; grandchildren, Kirsten, Ashley and Jonathan Carroll and Jason, Emily and Rebecca Taylor; and two nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Robert and sister Arlene.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, Main St., Danbury. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Peter Church, Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.

Mary Louise Thomas

Mary Louise Thomas, age 40, born January 22, 1960, in Palmer, Mass., died unexpectedly at her home on Kent Road in New Milford on June 25.

Dade Behring of Brookfield employed her as a Production Operator.

She is survived by her sister, Christine Thomas, also of New Milford. Her parents, Robert Rhune Thomas and Martha Louise (Hollingsworth) Thomas, formerly of Monson, Mass., predeceased her.

There will be no calling hours. A private burial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Miss Thomas' name may be made to The New Milford Animal Welfare Society, Dodd Road, New Milford, CT 06776 or The New Milford Community Ambulance, Young's Field Road, New Milford, CT 06776.

Einar Andersen

Einar Andersen of Essex Junction, Vermont, went home to be with the Lord on June 26, 2000 after a long illness.

He was born in Sandar, Norway on January 16th, 1924 to Dorthea Oliva and Harald Kristian Andersen.

At fifteen years of age, he left Norway to serve in shipping aboard oil tankers in the Atlantic during World War II and received two medals for his actions in defending his ship against enemy attack.

After the war he traveled over the oceans of the world on various merchant ships finally arriving in New York City.

Just north of there in South Salem, N.Y., he met and married Veronica Arabell Browse and later moved to Ridgefield, where their family grew to include sons Robert, Ralph, John and James, and daughters Deborah and Elizabeth. He is predeceased by Veronica and a son James Thomas as well as his second wife of 37 years, Marion (formerly Venus).

He provided for his family through carpentry and cabinet making, and later in his career worked for Perkin Elmer in Norwalk. He moved to Essex Junction, Vermont, in 1997 to live with his son John, daughter-in-law Lynn, and their children.

He is survived by his children Robert of Channahon, Ill., Ralph of New Milford, John of Essex Junction, Vt., James of Danbury, Deborah of Plymouth, N.H. and Elizabeth of Ridgefield; as well as sixteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29. 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the Essex Alliance Church with burial to follow in Mountainview Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

Davin E. Licence

The death of Davin E. Licence, 32, of 94 Drexel Drive, Pine Bush, N.Y., formerly of Brookfield, occurred Sunday evening in Montgomery, N.Y., as the result of an auto accident. He was the husband of Julie A. Yaramko Licence.

Born in Danbury July 13, 1967, son of Edward A. and Dianne E. (Watson) Licence, he was a graduate of Brookfield High School, Class of 1985. He had resided in Danbury and in Pine Bush for the last 4 years.

He had been employed in Computer Technical Services for North Western Hospital and formerly for G.E. Capital, I.B.M., and with his father in Sheet Metal Work. Mr. Licence was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brookfield, the National Modelers Club, was a collector of World War II paraphernalia and especially World War II aircraft for which he won many trophies and awards for his models. His hobby was also photography, he was an avid music lover and reader. While at Brookfield High School he was a member of the football team and as a youth played for Pop Warner, a member of the Cub Scouts, Indian Guides and Civil Air Patrol. He also held a Double Black Belt in Karate and Tai Kwan Do.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his parents of Brookfield; aunts, Jeanne Northrup of New Portland, Maine, Elise and Gregory Marciano of Danbury, Barbara Fiorey of Bellows Falls, Vt., and her children, Ricardo, Gabriel, Nicola and Anthony; his uncles, Robert Licence of Westminster, Vt., Richard and Betty Licence of Cannaan, N.H., and their children, Richard and Sherri; cousins, Vici and John Anderson of New Portland, Maine, and their children, Ami, Melanie and Alyssa, John C. and Debra Kern of Norwalk, Sue and Gregory Arnold of Brookfield, their children, Kristina and Kimberly as well as other cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Albert Licence and Dorothy Thurston; his maternal grandparents, George and Florence Watson; and an uncle, G. Edward Watson.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brookfield, Thursday morning at 11:00 with the Rev. George N. Crocker, Rector, officiating. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Brookfield.

Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, Wednesday evening from 7 to 9:00.

Contributions in his memory may be made to MADD, 186 Danbury Road, New Milford, CT 06776, the March of Dimes, the Scoliosis Foundation or to the charity of one's choice.

Edmund K. Einsman

Edmund K. Einsman died June 27, 2000 at the Danbury Hospital. He was 93 years old and the husband of Eileen M. Fleming Einsman.

Mr. Einsman was born in Danbury February 2, 1907, son of the late Karl and Josephine Krebs Einsman. He went to Danbury schools and was a self-employed carpenter. While in Danbury, he lived on Cleveland St. In 1950 he moved to Ft. Myers, Florida until returning to Danbury in 1999 to make his home with his daughter Lucille G. Durkin on Franklin St. Extension. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the local carpenter union, Danbury Drum Corps for 65 years, the Danbury Elks Club and Concordia Society.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by his daughter, E. Natalie Fenn of Woodbridge; 3 grandsons, Edward and Robert Durkin and William Fenn and a granddaughter, Linda Fenn Brill; 4 great-grandchildren, Robby, Emily, Lindsay and Olivia. He is predeceased by his daughter, Althia; brothers, Karl and Fred Faust and sisters, Laura Melycher and Stella Finn. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Cyprian P. LaPastina officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Jeanette (Dahle) Kallenbach

Jeanette (Dahle) Kallenbach, 84, of 10 Dahle Road, New Milford, wife of the late Robert H. Kallenbach, died Tuesday at New Milford Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Kallenbach was born in Barron, Wis., May 19, 1916, a daughter of the late John C. and Gladys (Cobb) Dahle. Spent her early life in Wisconsin, she and her late husband moved to Connecticut in 1944 and to New Milford in 1950.

She was an active member of the New Milford United Methodist Church, of which she was a member since 1952.

She is survived by one son, Robert A. Kallenbach and his wife Marion of New Milford; two daughters, Karen K. Pineman and her husband George and a daughter, Martha Jeanne Holden, all of New Milford; two sisters, Lorraine D. Cheney of New Milford and Martha D. Litwin and her husband Theodore of Naples, Fla.; one brother, Dudley Dahle and his wife Helen of Farmington, Conn.; six grandsons, Mark Kallenbach and his wife Amy and great-granddaughter Hannah and great-grandson Tucker of Naples, Italy, Timothy Kallenbach of Milford, Christopher Kallenbach and wife Jennifer and great-granddaughter Emma Grace of Milford, Parker D. Holden and James Holden of New Milford, and Eric Holden of Atlanta, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves special friends, Bonnie Knapp and Mike and Bonnie Shepherd of New Milford.

Funeral Services on Friday at 11 a.m. at the New Milford United Methodist Church, 68 Danbury Rd., New Milford.

Interment in Center Cemetery, New Milford.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the New Milford United Methodist Church.

Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Glenda Elaine Garrett

Glenda Elaine Garrett, 44, of Fairview Drive, Danbury, died Friday at Danbury Hospital after a long illness.

She was born September 14, 1955 in Marianna, Florida, a daughter of the late Thelma Davis and George Garrett of Florida.

Glenda and her family moved to Brooklyn, New York at age 7 and in 1968 moved to Danbury. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1974 and graduated from Naugatuck Valley Community Technical College as a Certified Nurse's Aide.

Glenda worked in various places, lastly at Datahr Rehabilitation Institute. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury.

Besides her father, she is survived by 2 sisters, Sheree Crawford and Rose Anyanwu and her husband Simon, all of Danbury; a brother, George Garrett Jr. of Florida; 4 uncles, Jerry Lee Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y., Greg Davis of Waterbury, Walter Leroy Manning of Brooklyn and the late S.A. Davis Jr.; 5 aunts, Eva Mae Davis of Florida, Mary Rhym and Lula Davis, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Lynett and Karen Davis, both of Danbury; 4 nephews, Jamar, Nyron and Romell Crawford and Shaheem Davis, all of Danbury; 2 special friends, Barbara Jean Brandon of Derwood, Md. and Janet and a host of cousins and friends.

Calling Hours: Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, Cherry Street, Danbury.

Services: Friday at 12 noon at Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.

The Tomlinson Homestead is in charge of arrangements.

Nicholas F. Gaudio Sr.

Nicholas F. Gaudio Sr., 68, of 38 Ice House Rd., Lisbon, Conn., died at his home Thursday morning. Born in Hamden on July 24, 1931, he was the son of the late Nicola and Julia (Criscolo) Gaudio. Until his retirement in 1997, he had worked for 28 years as a burner technician for Lehigh Oil Co. of Norwich. He was a member of the Plainfield Monday Night Men's Duck Pin Bowling League. On September 7, 1956 in New Haven he was united in marriage to Mary (Surface) Gaudio who predeceased him on February 5, 1996. Surviving are two daughters, Eliza F. Czeczotka of Griswold, Conn. and Penelope E. Avalos of Lisbon, with whom he had made his home; five sons, William R. Hawley of Bethel, Roy E. Hawley and Paul E. Hawley, both of Norwich, Thomas P. Hawley of New London and Nicholas F. Gaudio Jr. of Springfield, Mass.; a sister, Catherine Warner of Estero, Fla.; and a brother, Ralph Gaudio of Hamden; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. Funeral Services at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with interment following in Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice, P.O. Box 902, Uncasville, CT 06382.

Joseph Pastina

Joseph Pastina, 90, of Port Richey, Fla., died June 28, 2000. He was the husband of the late Susan (Ross) Pastina. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, January 19, 1910, son of the late Luca and Adeline Pastina. As a young man he worked in the scrap business until 1960 when he and his wife moved to the Danbury area and remained until retiring to Florida in 1979. While in Danbury, he ran the Starlight Catering Service with his wife and son Joseph.

He is survived by three sons, and daughters-in-law, Louis and Elena of Levittown, NY, Michael and Marie of Waterbury, CT, and Joseph and Rose of Port Richey, FL. A daughter, Adeline Pastina of Newtown, CT; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. A sister, Rose DeAngelis of Brooklyn, NY. Two brothers, Anthony of Pennsylvania and Louis of Brooklyn, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Pastina was predeceased by two brothers, Carmine and Rosario Pastina.

A memorial service will be held in Florida at a future date following cremation.

Helen C. Might

Helen Caroline Might, 94, of 24 Red Cedar Drive, New Milford, died June 27th, 2000 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness.

Formerly of Wilton, she was the wife of the late H. Kenneth Might; beloved mother of Donald K. of New Milford and Carole Might Middleton of Hillsborough, Calif.; and beloved grandmother of Kenneth and Daryl Might of New Milford, Alex, Jennifer and Tara Middleton of Hillsborough, Calif. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She spent most of her working years as a Bookkeeper and Receptionist for several companies, was a longtime member of the Wilton Congregational Church and a previous bridge club member.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Wilton Congregational Church in late August.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, CT Chapter, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.
