Miss Marjorie E. Parker

Artist, teacher, nature lover

WATERBURY - Miss Marjorie Eleanor Parker, 98, of Southmayd Home, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at the Lutheran Home of Southbury.

Miss Parker was born April 22, 1911, daughter of the late Theodore H. and Ella (Schulze) Parker. She was born and raised in Springfield, Mass. Miss Parker studied at Smith College, received her degree from the Massachusetts College of Arts in Boston, and taught art at Garland Junior College in Boston for 11 years. She retired in 1981 from Mitchell School in Woodbury where she taught art for 18 years.

Miss Parker was a resident of Southmayd Home, a residential home for women, for more than 18 years. She continued to paint and develop a garden area that she and fellow residents enjoyed for many years. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Woodbury.

She is survived by many friends and was predeceased by her brother, Theodore Parker and his wife, Delores Guidone Parker.

A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 294 Main St. South, Woodbury. Burial will be in New North Cemetery, Woodbury.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southmayd Home, 250 Columbia Blvd., Waterbury 06710; or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 5002, Woodbury 06798.

Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St., is in charge of arrangements.

Charles C. Silva

Engineer worked for NASA

MASSILLON, Ohio - Charles C. Silva, 86, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Rose Lane Health Center in Massillon.

He was born Feb. 12, 1923, in New Bedford, Mass., to the late Jose M. and Guilhermina Silva. Charles proudly served our country in the United States Army, Navy and Air Force during World War II, and took part in the invasion of Normandy. He was employed as an architectural engineer for NASA, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Massillon, a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and former district commander of the VFW in Wolcott, Conn.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Cheryl Silva of Wolcott, Conn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Robert Crouser of El Paso, Texas; a granddaughter, Savanah Silva; a brother, Armand Silva of Silver City, N.M.; and a sister, Priscilla Loffredo of Thomaston, Conn.

In honoring his wishes, Charles will be cremated and services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 30, in Queen of Peace Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery, 2324 East Main St., Waterbury, Conn. Reed Funeral Home, Canton Chapel is handling arrangements.

John A. DiLeo Jr.

WALLINGFORD - John Anthony DiLeo Jr. passed away peacefully on April 25, 2009, surrounded by his immediate family, into the loving arms of his Lord at the age of 68 after losing his life to leukemia.

John was born in Waterbury to John Anthony DiLeo Sr. and Virginia (Santoro) DiLeo on Dec. 30, 1940. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Ann (McMullen) DiLeo of Wallingford; and four children, a daughter, Deborah Ann (DiLeo) Waite and son-in-law, Kenneth Noel Waite III of Baldwinsville, N.Y., a daughter, Laurie Ann (DiLeo) Venditti and son-in-law, Paul Scott Venditti of Barnstable, Mass.; a son, John Anthony DiLeo III and daughter-in-law, Rita Ann DiLeo, of Cheshire; and a daughter, Christine Noel (DiLeo) Wium and son-in-law, Norman Wium, of Cheshire. He leaves behind six grandchildren, Alexa Cathleen DiLeo, Daniel John DiLeo, Kenneth Noel Waite IV, Olivia Noel Waite, Logan Ryder Venditti and Jack Benjamin Wium. John is survived by his only sibling, his sister, Concetta Marie Virginia DiLeo of Honolulu, Hawaii.

John owned and operated DiLeo Brothers Wholesale Grocers on Commercial Street in Waterbury until retirement in 2005. He served as vice president of the Harrison Greens Condominium Association in Wallingford. He is co-founder of Crown Technologies Association which distributes Xedia energy products.

A member of the Chairmen's Club of CBN Ministries, and former president of the Waterbury Chapter and the New England Regional Director of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International, John was an active speaker who evangelized and ministered by sharing the word of God with others.

Public calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Prospect. A private burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown, is scheduled for Saturday, May 2. All friends are welcome to attend the memorial service which will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Good News Christian Center, 46 John St., Wallingford. Mrs. Catherine A. Carpentier

Leaves sons in Waterbury

WATERBURY - Catherine Ann (Label) Carpentier, 89, of Kearney Drive, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Waterbury Hospital. She was the widow of Charles Carpentier.

Catherine was born Dec. 10, 1919, in Madison, Maine, a daughter of the late Victor and Modeste (Bechard) Label and lived in Waterbury most of her life.

She leaves three sons, Richard Carpentier of Waterbury, Joseph and Francis Carpentier, both of Fort Pierce, Fla., four grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services and burial are private and at the convenience of her family in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. The O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville, has been entrusted with arrangements.

Erving J. Honyotski Jr.

Eyelet toolmaker

WATERBURY - Erving Joseph Honyotski Jr., 80, died peacefully with his wife, Lois (Evon), at his side on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Saint Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Honyotski was born May 17, 1928, to the late Erving Sr. and Katherine (Schauster) Honyotski. He graduated from St. Mary's School and Leavenworth High School '46. At age 14, he began working at Imbimbo's Dry Cleaning. During the Korean conflict, he served in the Army in Germany. He worked as an eyelet toolmaker at Scovill/Century/Rostra for 37 years and Cly-Del for 5 years. He was passionate about his trade and was a true craftsman.

He was a proud father and adoring grandfather. His happiest times were spent at the dinner table surrounded by his family. He enjoyed UConn, Yankees and Giants games, classical music, reading, bingo and painting. He was a communicant of SS. Peter & Paul Church, serving as an usher and singing in their choir.

Besides his wife of 55 years, he is also survived by two sons, Steven of Dorchester, Mass., and David, his wife, Ginny, of West Hartford; one daughter, Susan Gannon, her husband, Bob, of Colchester; nine grandchildren, Tara, Steven, Ryan, Moira, Thomas, Dan, Marissa, Andrew and Sean; and many extended family members. He is predeceased by his dear brother, Joseph of Tewksbury, Mass.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Edmund Caporaso, Saint Mary's ICU and VNA Hospice for the care and comfort provided during his illness.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 12, at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury, at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family are to meet at the church. Calling hours will be Monday evening, May 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St., Waterbury.

Pasquale J. Recchia

Anaconda American retiree

WATERBURY - Mr. Pasquale J. Recchia, 92, of 756 Highland Ave., died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the widower of Mary J. (Patricelli) Recchia.

Mr. Recchia was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Waterbury, son of the late Donato and Louisa Recchia. He was employed at Anaconda American Brass Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1972. He was also a bartender at the Speak Easy Cafe on Highland Avenue for 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He leaves four daughters, Patricia Mautino and her husband, John, Palma Recchia and her companion, Rob Smith, Louise Recchia and Mary Jo Recchia, all of Waterbury; a sister, Gemma Sciabica and her husband, Joseph, of Modesto, Calif.; three grandchildren, Jason Mautino and his fiancee, Joanne Ferrari, Nicole DeJesus and Jaime Balboni; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Highland Avenue, Waterbury. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.

Angelina L. (LaPio) Masch

WATERBURY - Mrs. Angelina L. (LaPio) Masch, 88, of 119 Seymour St. died Saturday August 26, at New Britain General Hospital. She was the wife of George A. Masch.

Mrs. Masch was born in Waterbury on January 27, 1918, daughter of the late Gennaro & Rose (Dello Russo) LaPio. She was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Masch worked as a private duty registered nurse, primarily at Waterbury Hospital for 45 years, retiring in 1983. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

Besides her husband of nearly 60 years she leaves 2 sons, Dennis A. Masch of Winter Garden, FL and Donald G. Masch of Woodbridge, VA, 3 sisters, Adeline LaPio of Waterbury, Helen Bonvissuto and Lucy Marinelli both of The Villages, FL., 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Arrangements: Funeral Wednesday at 8:30 AM from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a mass at 9:30 AM. Burial: Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
