SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Charles Griffith Waddell Jr. of San Antonio died from injuries sustained in an accident Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in Stockton, Calif. He was 30.
Mr. Waddell was born in Wilmington, Del., on Jan. 30, 1968, the son of Charles G. Sr. and Lans Fanin Waddell of Millington, Md.
He attended Queen Anne County High School.
Mr. Waddell worked for O'Brien Rental Services of Wilmington until he moved to San Antonio in 1987, where he worked as a nursing assistant for a nursing home.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Madonna Rose Waddell of Millington, Md.; a brother, Mark Steven Waddell of Millington; two sisters, April S.M. Buchman of Charleston, S.C., and Lisa Pamela Wagner of New Castle, Del.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Chestertown Seventh Day Adventist Church, 305 Kent Circle, Chestertown, where friends may call 7-9 p.m Thursday.
Burial will be in Crumpton Cemetery, Crumpton, Md.

Joseph Hanway Weaver, 86
MILFORD - Joseph Hanway Weaver of Milford died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 86.
He was born in Culpeper County, Va., in 1912, the son of the late Sarah E. and James M. Weaver.
His parents; two sisters, Katherine and Ruth; and two brothers, James B. and William R., moved to Kent County when Joe was 11. They resided on a thriving 90-acre farm purchased from the Hall family and now adjoining the Milford Neck wildlife area owned by the Nature Conservancy.
To the delight of family children, Joe was employed by a local firm most noted for the Cupie Doll of the 1950s. Subsequently, Joe retired from ILC Dover Inc. after more than two decades. When Joe retired, he enjoyed nature as well as growing produce for the pleasure of friends and family. Concurrently, he leased the remaining farm acres for commercial purposes.
Mr. Weaver was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Milford.
He is survived by a sister, Katherine Weaver-Greene, a retired medical professional; three nieces, Katherine F., Elizabeth A., medical professionals, and E. Joan, an educational professional; and six great-nieces and nephews from the West Coast.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Charles J. Walsh, 74
DOVER - Charles J. Walsh of Dover died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in his home. He was 74.
Mr. Walsh was born in Newark, N.J., the son of the late Thomas and Margaret Conlon Walsh.
He received his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korea and Vietnam conflicts, where he was a pilot flying B-29s, B-47s and C-133s. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1968 as a lieutenant colonel.
Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Walsh took a position as a stock broker with Janney, Montgomery & Scott. He started his second retirement when the brokerage firm left Dover to move into Philadelphia, at which time Mr. Welch elected to remain in Dover.
Mr. Walsh was active in community affairs; he had served as Kent County coordinator for the Tax Counseling for the Elderly, a program sponsored by A.A.R.P. He was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge, The American Legion (Walter L. Fox Post) and the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 1903, where he had served as a past exalted ruler. He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church, where he served on numerous committees throughout the years.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Olive Ryan Walsh of Dover; a daughter, Diane W. Bateman of Charlottesville, Va; four sons, Kevin M. Walsh of Boulder, Colo., William T. Walsh of Pueblo, Colo., Stephen R. Walsh of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Thomas B. Walsh of Burke, Va; two brothers, Thomas Walsh and Richard Walsh, both of New Jersey; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, South State Street, Dover. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Home, 1175 South State Street, Dover.
Burial with full military Honors will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Philip M. Brooks Jr., 81
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Phililp M. Brooks Jr. of Chestertown died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, in Memorial Hospital at Easton, Easton. He was 81.
Mr. Brooks was born July 13, 1917, the son of the late Philip M. Brooks Sr. and Rose Vickers Brooks.
He graduated from McDonough High School with the class of 1937.
Mr. Brooks attended the University of Maryland for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served in the Navy for the duration of Word War II, and was honorabley discharged as a captain LSM-311 in 1946.
Upon his return to Chestertown, he built P.M. Brooks Jr. Inc. He also ran P.M. Brooks Feed Mill in Chestertown.
Mr. Brooks served as mayor of Chestertown, 1967-1977.
He was a life member of Chestertown Volunteer Fire Dept.; a charter member of Kent Ruritan Club; and a member of Chestertown Elks Lodge 2474, Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36, Chestertown, and VFW Post 10063, Fairlee. He served as a trustee for Chester Cemetery Association, as chairman for I.U. Family Association and as a board member of Kent Museum.
Mr. Brooks enjoyed boating, woodworking and reminiscing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Redman, whom he married in 1954, in 1970; and by his second wife, Eleanor Davidson Freeman, in 1976.
He is survived by three daughters, Josephine Hamblin of Salisbury and Phyllis Keen and Patricia Trinks, both of Chestertown; four stepchildren; a sister, Jane Sprinkle of Chestertown; three grandchildren, Robin Keen, B.J. Trinks and Philip Trinks, all of Chestertown; and a special friend, Ethel Everett of Chestertown.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at I.U. Church, Worton.
Friends may call 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown.
Burial will be in I.U. Cemetery.

Charles Jeffrey 'Jeff' Cannon, 46
ROANOKE, Va. - Charles Jeffrey 'Jeff' Cannon of Roanoke, and formerly of Delaware, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, Va. He was 46.
Mr. Cannon was the captain of the University of Delaware football team in 1973. While in Delaware, he had been captain of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol and commander of his chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
He had played professional football for the Jacksonville Sharks and the Philadelphia Eagles. He had coached football at Oberlin College, Springfield College, Delaware State College (now University), Swarthmore College and James Madison University.
At the time of his death, he was a regional publishing representative for Jostens Inc.
Mr. Cannon was a Cub Scout leader and was involved with the Cave Spring Booster Club, Roanoke.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Charles J. Cannon, in 1996.
He is survived by his mother, Grace Ruth Cannon of Milton, Del.; his wife of 21 years, Martina Clifford Cannon of Roanoke; a son, Colin Jeffrey Cannon of Roanoke; two daughters, Lindsay Elizabeth Cannon and Maggie Boland Cannon, both of Roanoke; three brothers, Robert Michael Cannon of Manasquan, N.J., and Thomas Patrick Cannon and Kelly Francis Cannon, both of Milton; and a sister, Ruth Anne Hudson of Cokesbury, Del.
MAss of Christian burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel streets, Rehboth Beach, Del.

Roy F. Clark, 73
CLAYTON - Roy F. Clark of Clayton died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in his home. He was 73.
Mr. Clark was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Philadelphia, son of the late Roy E. and Mary Staerk Clark.
He was a plant manager for many years before retiring, first with Rapid Forms and later for S.L. Graves Printing, both in Bellmawr, N.J. He enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Clark was a volunteer and honorary board member of Mamie A. Warren Senior Center, Clayton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward W. Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Leola Smith Clark; a son, Roy F. Clark Jr. of Stafford, Va.; a daughter, Diane E. Clendenning of Erial, N.J.; three sisters, Helen Kline of Dover, Alma Musicant of Pennsauken, N.J., and Marie Neal of Bellmawr, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Lindenwold, N.J.

Charles William Doane, 68
WESTOVER, Md. - Charles William Doane of Westover died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Genesis ElderCare Nursing Home, Salisbury. She was 68.
Mr. Doane was born in Westover, the son of the late Samuel and Adrena Doane.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alphonso Ballard and Lester Doane; and a sister Dorothy Cheatham.
He is survived by five children and their spouses, Portia and Manwell Cottman, Anthony and Patricia Fontaine of Salisbury, Sharon and Arthur Maddox of Westover, Peggy and Wayne Johnson, and William Boynton of Princess Anne; a brother, Samuel H. Doane of Westover; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James U.M. Church, Westover, with the Rev. Carol Fields Burke officiating.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church.
Burial will be at John Wesley Cemetery, Cottage Grove.

Homer A. Gibbs Sr., 76
MARYDEL, Md. - Homer A. Gibbs Sr. of Marydel died after a short illness Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in Washington Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He was 76.
Mr. Gibbs was born May 7, 1922, in Marydel, the son of the late Walter and Emma Gibbs.
He was a high school graduate.
Mr. Gibbs worked as a bus driver for Pinkett Motor Tours for 42 years.
He was a member and trustee of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Marydel.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Marie Gibbs of Marydel; a son, Homer Gibbs Jr. of Marydel; a daughter, Gloria J. Johns of Marydel; a brother, Ralph Gibbs of Atlantic City, N.J.; six sisters, Jessie Lake of California, Gladys Seals of Barclay, Merna Williams of Wilmington, Del., Lillian Seals of Barclay, Joyce Seals of New Castle, Del., and Virginia Johnson of Wilmington; and five grandchildren.
Service will be noon Saturday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Marydel, with the Rev. Marjorie Burns officiating.
Friends may call at the church two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Church Cemetery.

John W. Layton Sr., 68
MILLSBORO - John W. Layton Sr. of Millsboro died of cancer Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 68.
Mr. Layton was born in Frankford, son of the late Harvey W. and Elsie Dukes Layton.
He was a machine operator for Parker Block Co., Millsboro for 22 years. He retired in 1996.
He is survived by fiancee, Bonnie Lou Custins of Millsboro, two sons, John W. Layton, Jr. of Cape Coral, Fla. and Michael Lee Layton of Millsboro; two daughters, Colleen Henderson of Boca Raton and Barbara Lee Carmine of Millsboro; a stepson, John M. Custins of Laurel; and four grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m., Friday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Phyllis Walton will officiate.
Burial will be private.

Anna Vasquez, 71
DOVER - Anna Vasquez of Dover died of cancer Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in her home. She was 71.
Mrs. Vasquez was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on May 12, 1927, daughter of the late Rose and Joseph Neveja.
She was a resident of New York City for many years. She moved to Dover in 1989, where she became an active member in the community. She was an active, devoted Catholic. In 1996, she appeared in the local newspaper photo taken at the Modern Maturity Center, to which she belonged, winning an award in a competition for having the most grandchildren. She has many loving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Vasquez excelled best when in the company of her large, loving family, preparing meals, especially during holidays. Her children, family, and friends experienced first hand the meaning of true love, patience, generosity and compassion. She would always find the time for the little ones, spoiling them, her greatest admired asset. Volumes can be written about this great lady's achievements and contributions.
Mom, always loving always caring and sharing, filled her daily life with Christianity and prayers for others. Above and beyond all else, Mom advocated love for Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Now among the angels, we will never forget you and will always love and miss you.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gamaliel Vasquez of Wolcott, N.Y., in 1995.
She is survived by a faithful companion, Henry Gottlieb; five sons, Richard Vasquez of Bayside, N.Y., Gamaliel Vasquez Jr. of Dover, Michael Vasquez of Islip, N.Y., Robert Vasquez of Dover and Samuel Vasquez of Camden; five daughters, Rachel Buechele of Franklyn Square, N.Y., Patricia Albertelli of Dover, Maria Giulini of Closter, N.J., Donna Caulfied of Dover and Frances Papenhausen of Camden; two sisters, Margaret Fazio of Fla., and Violet Neveja of Boston, Mass.; a brother, Joseph Neveja of Florida.
