William E. Swiggett, 76

WILMINGTON - William E. Swiggett formerly of Hartly, died Saturday in Parkview Nursing Home, Wilmington. He was 76.

Mr. Swiggett was a Army veteran of World War II.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda L. Marchione of Claymont and Patricia Lowe of Tennessee; two sons, William of Dover and James of Tennessee; a brother, Francis Swiggett of Magnolia; two sisters, E. Lorie Swiggett Harvey and Beulah Elliott, both of Dover; and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Daniels & Hutchinson Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Templeville Cemetery, Templeville, Md.

Loni Michelle Nickolson, 20

FELTON - Loni Michelle Nickolson of Felton died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 20.

Ms. Nickolson was born on May 15, 1978, , in Takoma Park, Md., to Donald O. Nickolson and Mary Konosky Nickolson.

She moved from Hyattsville, Md., in 1984. A 1996 graduate of Lake Forest High School, she enjoyed music and writing poetry, being with her friends and the outdoors.

Ms. Nickolson was employed by ILC Dover Inc. of Frederica and Applebee's of Dover.

She was loved by her stepfather, Glenn Skinner of Felton; a brother, David Wayne Nickolson of Felton; maternal grandparents Mary and Carl Konosky of Fort Myers, Fla.; great-grandmother, Ann Konosky of Pennsylvania; paternal grandmother, Elsie D. Nickolson of Annapolis, Md.; godparents, Mickey and Patty Johnson of Millsboro, Del.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, Md.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today and Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro, Md.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Felton Community Fire Company, P.O. Box F. Felton, DE, 19943; First State BMX, P.O. Box K, Milford, DE 19963; or to the Harrington Volunteer Fire Company, Harrington, DE 19952.

Virgil L. McAdams, 56

HARRINGTON - Virgil L. McAdams of Harrington died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 56.

Mr. McAdams was born in Corydon, Ind., in 1942 to Harvey McAdams and the late Catherine Mauck McAdams.

Virgil had been living the Harrington area for the past 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Army in the mid-'60s.

Virgil was a truck driver for 12 years and a dispatcher for five years for Martin Limestone in Viola.

He loved to go fishing with his grandson. He also liked to garden and watch Westerns and all types of sporting events on television.

Mr. McAdams was member of Bethany Church of the Brethren, Farmington.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan Robbins McAdams; two daughters, Mary Lou Venable and her husband, David of Greenwood, Lorraine Kemp and her husband, Jeff Sr. of Harrington; a grandson, Jeffery Allen Kemp of Harrington; four brothers, Richard McAdams and Lonnie McAdams, both of Felton, Harvey McAdams of Paoli, Ind., Eldon McAdams of Corydon; two sisters, Linda Lowe of Corydon, Elsie Swarens of Clarksville, Ind., and nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fleischauer Funeral home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood.

Burial will be in St. Johnstown Cemtery, Greenwood.

Mary B. Sheppard, 75

DOVER - Mary B. Sheppard of Dover died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 75.

Mrs. Sheppard was born April 30, 1923, in Dover, to the late Herman and Matilda Bell.

She worked 25 for Playtex until her retirement in 1985. She also attended Little Creek United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Sheppard was a member of the Dover Modern Maturity Center.

She is survived by her husband, Howard A. Sheppard of Dover; a son, Howard R.'Ricky' Sheppard of Dover; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Doug Hegman Sr. of Little Creek, Arlene Sue and Ronald Garrett of Dover; two brothers, Walter M. Bell of Hartly, Foster Bell of Long Island, N.Y.; a special nephew, Glendon Chmielewski of Dover; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., where friends may call from 11 a.m-1 p.m.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contribution be made to Little Creek United Methodist Church, Sunday School Building Fund, Little Creek, DE 19961.

William F. Matthias, 67

DOVER - William F. Matthias of Dover died of a lengthy illness, Friday Oct. 23, 1998, at his residence. He was 67.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late George and Margaret Luke Matthias. While serving in the U.S. Air Force, he and his wife moved to Dover in 1957. Upon his discharge in 1962 he entered employment with the U.S. Post Office in Dover where he served as claims clerk until his retirement in 1987.

Active in community affairs, Mr. Matthias had given of himself to youth activities including the Nagoya Little League in Japan, the Dover Little League, and the C.Y.O. League at Holy Cross Church. He had also donated his time with the Delaware State Police as a volunteer in the files department.

Amongst his friends and neighbors he will be remembered as 'Dover's Biggest New York Jets Fan.'

Mr. Matthias was a member of the American Legion - Walter L. Fox Post of Dover Korean War Veterans Association of Del. V.F.W. Post 3238 and the First State Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a active member of the Nagoya/Komaki Air Base Reunion Association.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margaret Naoko Matthias of Dover; a sister, Arleen Matthias of Baldwin, Long Island, N.Y.

Service will be noon Wednesday at the Funeral Home of Micheal J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Sandra T. Russell, 46

SEAFORD - Sandra T. Russell of Seaford died of cancer, Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, in her home. She was 46.

Mrs. Russell worked for the past year as a waitress at Jimmy's Grille in Bridgeville. Prior to that, she worked at Dillard's restaurant in Seaford.

She is survived by her husband, James A. Russell; her parents, Reginald P. and Doris Mae Rosetta Todd Sr. of Cambridge, Md.; a daughter, Jennifer Lee Oris of Bridgeville; a brother, Reginald Todd Jr. of Federalsburg, Md.; two sisters, Pamela Pitt of Hurlock, Md., and Glenda Wroten of Cambridge; and a granddaughter.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cranston Funeral Home, 300 Shipley St., Seaford, where friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..

Burial will be in East New Market Cemetery, East Market, Md.

Henry Clayton Warrington, 76

MILLSBORO - Henry Clayton Warrington of Millsboro died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, in his home. He was 76.

Mr. Warrington was born in Maryland, son of the late Stephen R. and Carrie Hitchens Warrington.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Warrington retired in 1986 after 35 years as a steel worker for Pipefitters Local 782, Seaford.

He was a member of the Oak Orchard-Riverdale American Legion Post 28, and a member of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Co., Oak Orchard. He was also a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Bender Warrington, in 1986; and a son, George R. Warrington, in 1980.

He is survived by a daughter, Myra W. Leighty of Magnolia; a granddaughter, Yvonne Bell Krause of Norfolk, Va.; and a great-granddaughter, Dale Krause of Norfolk.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Indian River Volunteer Fire Co., Millsboro, DE 19966.

Edward E. Benson, 75

WYOMING - Edward E. Benson of Wyoming died after a long illness, Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 75.

Mr. Benson was born on Dec. 2, 1922, in Wooster, Ohio, son of the late Charles and Mabel Clark Benson.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in Guam, with the rank of sergeant. After receiving an honorable discharge, he continued to work with the Army as a civilian in the Army Map Services in Washington, D.C., and in St. Louis. He then went on to work for the Social Security Adminstration, both in Ohio and Dover.

He enjoyed traveling, sports, fishing, reading and walking. Photography and videography were two of his favorite hobbies.

Mr. Benson was a volunteer for Kent General Hospital for six years and a member of American Legion Post 2, Modern Maturity, American Association of Retired Persons and NARFE.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Benson; and a sister, Marjorie Lance, both of Ohio.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Annie Mae Benson, formerly of Lynchburg, Va.; Kenneth E. Benson of Dover, Steven C. Benson of Felton; two daughters, Joanne S. Fretz of Wyoming and Karla K. Cook of Chesterville, Md.; a sister-in-law, Eva Mae of Albuquerque, N.M., seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. today at Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to Meals on Wheels, 1121 S. Forrest Ave., Dover, DE 19904.

Dasha Patricia Yvonne Moon, newborn

NEWARK - Dasha Patricia Yvonne Moon died shortly after her birth of prenatal complications, Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was a newborn.

Dasha is survived by her mother, Latroyle Justice of Newark; father, Douglas Moon II of New Castle; a brother, Douglas Moon III of Newark; paternal grandparents, Douglas and Yvonne Moon of New Castle; maternal grandparents, Frederick and Clara Purnell of Newark and George Justice Sr.; a paternal great-grandfather, Franklin L. Moon of Wilmington; and a maternal great-grandmother, Mary Fisher of Dover.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. today at the Solid Foundation Word of Knowledge Ministry Church on Del. 72 at 3310 Wrangle Hill Road, Bear.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Edward Moses Newnam, 72

BEAR - Edward Moses Newnam of Bear, and formerly of North Carolina, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1998, in his home. He was 72.

Mr. Newnam was born in Middletown.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.

Mr. Newnam retired in 1991, as manager of the Pennsylvania House in Monroe, N.C. He also managed furniture manufacturer companies such as Thonet, York, Pa., American of Martinsville in Virginia and also the Pennsylvania House, New York state location.

After his retirement, he began a second career as an artist. His self taught talents in watercolor painting were appreciated by many people as he and his wife Betty traveled to art shows though out the south and mid-Atlantic states.

His best loved works included serene snow landscapes, lighthouses and historic buildings of Monroe.

In 1982, he was inducted into the Virginia Watercolor Society; he was one of the first 12 artist members to be inducted. He was also honored with an acceptance for exhibition at a juried show of the American Water Color Society in New York City. In addition to watercolors, he also worked with upholstery and wood.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Daniels Newnam; three sons, Thomas A. and E. Randolph, both of York, and Laurence S. of Pasadena, Calif.; a brother Donal Newnam of Galena, Md.; and four grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19801.
