Jack Hartsock, 75

DIONE, Ky. - Jack Hartsock of Dione, formerly of Clayton, Del., died Monday, March 2, 1998, in the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital, of a long illness. He was 75.

Mr. Hartsock was born in 1922, in Coeburn, Va., the son of the late Bill and Virginia Patrick Hartsock.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946 as a second class gunnersmate on the U.S.S. Y.M.S. 238 in the Society Islands.

Mr. Hartsock was a millwright for 30 years with Local 1545 in New Castle.

He was a member of the Trinity Holiness Tabernacle Church, Hiram.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jewel Ray Hartsock in 1988; a brother, Walter Hartsock; and a sister, Sally Hartsock.

He is survived by one son, Glen Hartsock, of Clayton; two daughters, Ann Smith of Clayton and Kay Perry of Hartly, Del.; a brother, Clyde Hartsock of Middletown, Del.; four sisters, Maude Dixon of Lexington, Margie Hampton of Cleveland, Tenn., Virginia DeSenso of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dorothy Green of Fayetteville, N.C., six grandchildren, Karen Lee, Steven Hartsock, Kristina Annand, Jonathan Hartsock, Sara Hartsock, and Megan Annand, all of Delaware; six great-grandchildren, Ashley Lee, Robert Lee Jr., Joshua Lee, Ryan Annand, Tyler Hartsock, and Jacob Annand, all of Delaware; He is also survived by a faithful friend, Sue Sergent of Hiram.

Service was held March 5, at Trinity Holiness Tabernacle. with the Revs. Garland Sergent and Ron Oplinger officiating.

Military rites service was held at graveside.

Burial was in the Ray Family cemetery in Dione.

Arrangements were by Tri-City Funeral Home, Benham.

Catherine Flaherty Rossbach, 88

STEVENSVILLE, Md. - Catherine Flaherty Rossbach of Stevensville, died in her home, Sunday, March 15, 1998. She was 88.

Mrs. Rossbach was born in 1909, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Joseph and Bridget Leane Flaherty.

She attended school in Baltimore at the Visitation Academy.

Mrs. Rossbach worked at the Western Union in Baltimore as an operator, and she was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Christopher's Alter Society in Chester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul T. Rossbach in 1973; a son, Edgar A. Rossbach.

She is survived by two sons, Paul T. Rossbach Jr. of Sterling, Va., and Francis X. Rossbach of Burlington, Conn.; one daughter, Mary Rossbach Klepper of Stevensville; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Chester.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today, at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Chester.

Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Queenstown.

Myron Daniel Mezick, 84

OCEAN VIEW - Myron Daniel Mezick of Ocean View, died of Sunday, March 8, 1998. He was 84.

Mr. Mezick was born in 1913, in Nanticoke, Md., the son of the late Daniel W. Mezick and Eva B. Mezick.

He was a school teacher for 30 years in Sussex County.

Mr. Mezick was a member for many years of Mariners Bethel United Methodist Church, where he sang on in the choir and served as an umpire for Little League teams, while living in Florida. He recently attended Ocean View Church of Christ, where he and his wife sang together.

He is survived by his wife, Ella E. Mezick of Ocean View; two daughters, Adrienne M. Bennett of Ocean View, and Michelle E. Buck of Fruitland, Md.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Burial will be private.

Helen Karlich, 81

SEAFORD - Helen Karlich of Seaford, formerly of Hoboken, N.J., died of heart disease, Tuesday, March 18, 1998, in the Millsboro Nursing & Rehabilation Center. She was 81.

Mrs. Karlich was born in Yugoslavia, the daughter of the late Joseph and Flora Plavsha Buzancich.

She was a cook at the Hotel Firrel in Split, Yugoslavia, before moving to the United States in 1958.

Mrs. Karlich was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hoboken, and a member of the Laurel Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marko Radja in 1940 and her second husband, Frank Karlich in 1963.

She is survived by one son, with whom she lived, Stephan Radja of Seaford; one sister, Mary Martich of Yugoslavia; one granddaughter, Marina Rittenhuse and one great-granddaughter, Selina Rose Rittenhouse, both of Kunkletown, Pa.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 Friday in the Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Blades, where Father Patrick Premonte will officiate.

Friends may call from 9-9:45 a.m. Friday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro.

Georgianna R. Piper, 92

MILFORD - Georgianna R. Piper of Milford, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, in Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 92.

Mrs. Piper was born in 1906, in Camden, N.J., the daughter of the late Fred and Annie Roberts.

She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Milford, for many years. She was a member of the Senior Choir and the Willing Worker.

Mrs. Piper was a caring and energetic lady, who enjoyed life and her family. She enjoyed cooking and sewing. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Henry Piper Sr; two daughters, Avis Marie Horsey and Vermidel Millicent Piper.

She is survived by a son, Howard Henry Piper Jr. and wife, Doris L. Piper of Dover; one daughter, Freda Collins and husband, George Collins of Salem, N.J.; six grandchildren, Felicia Pickett of Dover, Tyrone Taylor of Milford, Lola Williams, Lynn Battle, Wandulyn Collins, all of Salem, Darryl Collins of Newark; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Milford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery, Slaughter Neck.

James Lewis Buckley Jr., 73

ROCK HALL, Md. - James Lewis Buckley Jr. of Rock Hall, died of heart failure, Tuesday, March 17, 1998, in the Kent/ Queen Anne's Hospital. He was 73.

Mr. Buckley was born in Rock Hall, the son of the late James and Edna May Buckley.

He worked as a self-employed truck driver for many years before leaving the road to become a waterman. After working for several years, he wanted to slow his pace in life and worked as an electrician's assistant for Bud Nicholson until he retired in 1985.

Mr. Buckley enjoyed socializing and loved his friends and family.

He is survived by two sisters, Rose Beck of Rock Hall and Margaret Schauber of Moorefield, W.Va.; two brothers, William H. Buckley of Rock Hall and Thomas E. Buckley of Syracuse, N.Y.; and 17 nieces and nephews.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Rock Hall, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Still Pond Cemetery, Still Pond.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to the Kent Hospice Foundation, 118 S. Lynchburg Street, Chestertown, MD 21620.

John Patrick Lyons, 61

DOVER - John Patrick Lyons of Dover died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at his residence, after a long illness. He was 61.

Mr. Lyons was born in 1937, in Quincy, Mass., the son of the late Peter M. and Helen Hurney Lyons.

Mr. Lyons retired as a senior master sergeant from the Air Force in 1975 after 20 years of service, and received the Meritorious Service Medal.

He worked for the state lottery for four years, after retiring from the military, then he was the ad manager for the Delaware State News. He was employed as the south Delaware representative of ADVO, the missing children pamphlets.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joanne F. Lyons of Dover; two sons, Michael S. Lyons of Chicago, and Terrence J. Lyons of Smyrna; three grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, South State Street, Dover.

Burial will be in the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 N. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.

Edward Thomas Collins Jr., 56

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Edward Thomas Collins Jr. of Chestertown, died of cancer, Tuesday March 17, 1998, in the Kent/Queen Anne's Hospital. He was 56.

Mr. Collins was born in Chestertown, the son of the late Edward Thomas Collins and Freeda Morris Collins.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1963.

Mr. Collins was employed, for the past 15 years, by Associated Printers in Baltimore as a printer.

He loved to hunt and fish and also enjoyed playing golf and cooking.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lisbeth Collins; two children from a previous marriage, Stephanie Lynn Andrews-Collins, and Gregory Collins, both of California; two sons, Kirk Collins and Edwards Thomas Collins III, both of Chestertown; one daughter-in-law, Kristen Collins of Chestertown; one brother, Ted Collins of Easton; one sister, Marta McClain of Chestertown; and one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Cole Collins of Chestertown.

Service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O.Box 711, Chestertown, MD.

Dorothy M. McMaster, 75

REHOBOTH BEACH - Dorothy M. McMaster of Rehoboth Beach died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, in the Beebe Medical Center. She was 75.

Mrs. McMaster was born in 1922, in Denton, Md., the daughter of the late Dudley Price and Harriett Price.

She was employed as a nurses aide at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, Pa., for many years before retiring in 1978.

Mrs. McMaster was a member of the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, where she worked as a receptionist, a member of the VFW Auxillary of Rehoboth Beach, and a past president of Reliance Ladies Auxiliary Station 61, Boothwynn, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. McMaster, in 1971.

She is survived by four sons, Larry McMaster, Keith McMaster, and James McMaster, all of Boothwyn, and Wayne McMaster of Rehoboth Beach; a daughter, Joanne D. James of Milton; three sisters, Anna Lawton of St. Petersburg, Fla., Thelma Jones, and Carolyn Collins, both of Phoenix; one brother, Samuel Price of Texas; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Service will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at The Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.

Lydia Louise Graves, 89

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Lydia Louise Graves of Chestertown died Sunday, March 15, 1998, in the Kent/Queen Anne's Hospital. She was 89.

Mrs. Graves was born in 1908, in Quaker Neck, the daughter of the late Horace and Mary Lively.

She received her education in Kent County public schools.

Mrs. Graves worked as a domestic worker for several families in the Quaker Neck area. She also worked for Washington College and Vita Foods, retiring in 1971 after 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Graves; three sons, William Gilbert, Hynson Gilbert and George Graves Jr.

She is survived by one son, Roland Miller of Chestertown; four daughters, Rebecca Turner of Quaker Neck, Bessie Sims of Chestertown, Rosetta Johnson of Worton and Alfreda Graves of Chestertown; one sister, Rose McGreer of Chestertown, one sister-in-law, Gertrude Graves of Chestertown; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchidren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Pomona, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Emmanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Butlertown.
