William B. Hignutt, 78

GREENWOOD - William B. Hignutt of Greenwood, died of heart failure Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, in Seaford Retirement and Rehabilitation Center, Seaford. He was 78.

Mr. Hignutt was born Oct. 4, 1920, the son of the late Louis and Iva Hignutt. He was a lifelong resident of Greenwood.

He worked at the DuPont plant in Seaford as an electrician from 1940-1980. He later worked as a security guard for Confidential Services and Dover Downs and the Cannon clam-processing plant.

Mr. Hignutt loved bluegrass music and working word puzzles of all types.

He was a lifetime member of the Eastern Shore Bluegrass Association and of the American Rifle Association, and a former member of the Delaware State Police Auxiliary.

He is survived by two sisters, Katherine Hignutt of Greenwood and Beatrice Sammons of Seaford; two half-sisters, Marie Dickerson of Greenwood and Dorothy Richter of Mount Pleasant Beach, Md.; four nephews; and two nieces.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood, where friends may call one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Bloomery Cemetery, Federalsburg, Md.

Clifford Roy Jacobs, 85

PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. - Clifford Roy Jacobs of Passaic County, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, in Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes, Del. He was 85.

Mr. Jacobs was born in Alberta, Canada, the son of the late Sidney Frank Jacobs and Elnora Barrett Jacobs.

He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Alberta.

Mr. Jacobs worked in the Yukon Territory, Canada, as an assayer, then for the Office of Canadian Government as a requisition agent for ordnance materials from the U.S., used in explosives, in World War II.

He came to the U.S. and became a naturalized U.S. citizen, then worked for the U.S. government at Aberdeen Proving Ground, near North East, Md. He received patents for designs for protective gas masks for infants and servicemen.

Mr. Jacobs later worked for American Cyanamid Co., Wayne, as a start-up engineer for new chemical plants. He then served as executive vice president of Kuehne Chemical Co., South Kearny, and was a consultant to them at the time of his death.

He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the Chlorine Institute.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Jacobs; a daughter, Dianna Jacobs Brotherton of Long Neck, Del.; and two grandsons, Barrett Alden Brotherton and Clifford Jacobs Brotherton, both of Long Neck.

Service and burial will be private.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Elizabeth A. Kisser, 89

FRANKFORD - Elizabeth A. Kisser of Frankford, died of heart failure Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, in Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes. She was 89.

Mrs. Kisser was born Nov. 4, 1908, in Camden, N.J.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Kisser enjoyed crocheting and needlework.

She is survived by a son, John R. Kisser of Seattle; two daughters, Gloria E. Piachoski of Philadelphia and Elizabeth L. McGuire of Frankford; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, Wilmington.

Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Jean Small Millar

REHOBOTH BEACH - Jean Small Millar of Rehoboth Beach, and Vero Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, in her home.

Mrs. Millar grew up in Rehoboth Beach and was a graduate of Rehoboth High School. She lived in Brussels, Belgium, and Lancaster, England, for several years.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Millar was a member of the Episcopal Church and of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. She was well-known for her baseball knowledge.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard L. Millar; a son, Leonard L. Millar Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Kyle Manning and Jennifer Millar, both of West Haven, Conn.; a brother, Frank Small of Lewes; two sisters, Frances Myers and Rebecca Lemaire, both of Rehoboth Beach; and a grandson and a granddaughter, Matthew Manning and Erin Manning, both of West Haven.

A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at All Saints' Episcopal Church, Rehoboth Beach. Another memorial service will be in Vero Beach at a time and place to be announced.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Dr. Walter 'Skip' Orr, 56

SMYRNA - Dr. Walter 'Skip' Orr of Smyrna, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998. He was 56.

Dr. Orr received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Monmouth College, North Long Branch, N.J., and his doctorate from Temple University, Philadelphia.

He was a middle school teacher in Jackson Township, N.J., for 15 years; an assistant principal at Woodbridge High School, Bridgeville, for one year; and an educational associate for the Delaware Department of Education and its predecessor, the Delaware Department of Public Instruction, since 1982. He also worked on special projects for Research for Better Schools, Philadelphia.

In his spare time, Dr. Orr was a private pilot and enjoyed flying.

He was a member of the Delaware Association of School Administrators, Phi Delta Kappa, the Delaware Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Mooney Aircraft Pilots' Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Ann; a son, Erik, and a daughter, Kirsten, both of Austin, Texas; his mother and father, Alida and Ted Orr of Chester, N.J.; a sister, Arlene Orr Amery, of Chester; a brother, Ted, of Florida; and an uncle, Gordon Mundrane of South Carolina.

Service and burial will be in New Jersey.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be sent to the Civil Air Patrol, Smyrna, c/o the Smyrna Airport; and to the Smyrna School District Administrators' Scholarship Fund, c/o Central Office, South Main St., Smyrna, DE 19977.

Hannah R. Brinsfield, 79

SEAFORD - Hannah R. Brinsfield of Seaford died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in her home. She was 79.

Mrs. Brinsfield and her husband owned and operated Glennco Mary Carter Paint Store in Seaford for over 20 years, retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Brinsfield was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Acorn Club, a member of the Seaford Golf and Country Club and a member of the Republican Women's Club, where she was a committeewoman for them for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Glenn Brinsfield, in 1992.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Messick of Seaford and Glenda B. Small of Merced, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Miller of Seaford; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Eldorado United Methodist Church Cemetery, Eldorado, Md.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the St. John's U.M. Church General Fund, P.O. Box 299, Seaford, DE 19973; or the Delaware Hospice Inc., 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Ethel McMahon Redefer, 99

REHOBOTH BEACH - Ethel McMahon Redefer of Rehoboth Beach died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, in Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. She was 99.

Mrs. Redefer was born in 1899 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late George A. McMahon and Margaret Flynn McMahon.

She was director and treasurer of the Rehoboth By the Sea Realty Co., from 1958-88, at which point she became a member emerita of the board, serving as assistant secretary and treasurer until her death.

Mrs. Redefer also was treasurer for the old Wilmington General Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Wilmington, with a summer residence in Dewey Beach.

Mrs. Redefer was a member of St. Edmond's Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, and a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Wilmington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Redefer, in 1984; and by a daughter, Janet Judge, in 1995.

She is survived by a son, John E. Redefer Jr. of Rehoboth Beach; a daughter, Margo Vaughn of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Ann Kerrigan of Wilmington; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, Rehoboth Beach, with the Rev. Philip Sheekey officiating.

Burial will be private.

In memory of Ethel McMahon Redefer, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Casa San Francisco Center, P.O. Box 38, Milton, DE 19968.

David L. Wyatt, 50

NASHVILLE - David L. Wyatt of Nashville, formerly of Lewes, Del., died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, in Nashville, He was 50.

Mr. Wyatt served in the U.S. Navy, 1967-1971. He owned and operated a small restaurant and bar in Nashville.

He is survived by his mother, Lydia Waldo of Linthicum, Md.; two sons, Steven Wyatt of Virginia Beach, Va., and Brian Wyatt of Nashville; three daughters, Tricia, Sherry and Paula, all of Nashville; three brothers, Leroy Wyatt of Newark, Del., Kenneth Wyatt of Camden, Del., and Michael Wyatt of Georgetown, Del.; six half-brothers, Billy of Delmar, Del., and Preston, Barry Lee, Steve, Paul and John; two half-sisters, Mima Jean and Sandy; and six grandchildren.

Service was held in Nashville.

Burial was in Tennessee Veterans' Cemetery.

John Guzman, 72

SMYRNA - John Guzman of Smyrna, formerly of Newark, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 72.

Mr. Guzman was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Los Angeles, the son of the late John and Bertha Guzman. He moved to Delaware in 1971.

He had worked for Chrysler for 30 years, retiring in 1986.

He is survived by a son, John Guzman Jr. of Bear; and a daughter, Mary Guzman, also of Bear.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Lakeside Cemetery, North State Street, Dover.
