Phoebe Annette Meredith, 84

DOVER - Phoebe Annette Meredith of Dover, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 84.

Ms. Meredith was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Shamokin, Pa., the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Meredith.

She had worked for 16 years as a clothing-factory worker in the Anthracite Shirt Co. in Shamokin, owne by Mr. Bernstein.

Ms. Meredith was a member of the Salvation Army church in Dover.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Chubb of Cheswold and Mary Pufnock of Dover; two brothers, Gordon Meredith and Howard Meredith, both of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Emily Moore of Dover and Dorothy Landau of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be shortly after noon Friday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shamokin.

Friends may call 11 a.m.-noon Friday at Farrow Funeral Home, 6th and Chestnut streets, Shamokin. Friends may also call 2-3 p.m. Thursday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Salvation Army, PO Box 123, Dover, DE 19903.

Margaret M. Nickerson, 76

PICKENS, S.C. - Margaret M. Bresnahan Nickerson of Pickens, and formerly of Centerville, Mass., died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, in Hospice House, Anderson. She was 76.

Mrs. Nickerson was born Feb. 20, 1922, the duaghter of the late Luke P. and Mary McAuliffe Bresnahan.

She was a retired secretary.

Mrs. Nickerson and her husband were actively involved in American Youth Hostels on Cape Cod, Mass., and were the founders of Smith's Seashore Shelters youth hostel in Eastham, Mass.

She was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pickens, where she served as the chairwoman of the Ecumenical Committee and was a member of the Altar Society, the Women's Guild and the Bible Study and Family Life committees. She also was a dedicated member of the Holy Cross Prayer Chain.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert D. Nickerson Jr.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Herbert D. Nickerson III and Carla Nickerson, of Pocatello, Idaho; a daughter, Diane C. Nickerson of Felton, Del.; and four grandchildren, Seth Nickerson and Sarah Nickerson, both of Portland, Ore., Julianne Wojtkiewicz of Dover, Del., and Mark Wojtkiewicz of Felton.

Mass of Christian burial will be today at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pickens.

Burial will be Tuesday in Oakland Grove Cemetery, Bourne, Mass.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Upstate/Hospice House, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Grace Thomas Trader, 81

DOVER - Grace Thomas Trader of Dover, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, in Bayhealth Medical Center-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 81.

Mrs. Trader was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Friendship, Md., the daughter of the late George J. and R. Flossie Holland Thomas.

She was graduated from Buckingham High School, Berlin, Md., with the class of 1933.

Mrs. Trader and her late husband, Roland P. Trader, established the Trader Funeral Home in January 1953 at 803 S. State St., Dover. Later, they built the present Trader Funeral Home Inc. at 12 Lotus St.

She was president of Trader Funeral Home Inc., a Delaware-licensed funeral director since 1980 and a homemaker.

Mrs. Trader was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover and of Buckingham Presbyterian Church, Berlin; a member of the Del-Mar-Va Funeral Director Association; and a member of Capitol Grange 18, Dover.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas R. Trader, Ross W. Trader and Teresa Trader, along with Thomas' fiancee, Georgia G. Heininger, all of Dover; four grandchildren, Ariel Trader, Chelsea Trader, Matthew Taylor and Dale Harrison, all of Dover; a special friend that lived with and took care of Mrs. Trader during her illness, Mabel L. Reed of Dover; and other caregivers, Irene Turner, Joann Evans and April Evans, all of Dover.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

A private visitation will be held for the family.

Willie Lee Watson, 82

SMYRNA - Willie Lee Watson of Smyrna, formerly of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. She was 82.

Mrs. Watson was born April 13, 1916, in Florida, the daughter of the late Tommy and Ella Jones.

She worked as a custodian at Clemente's Cafeteria and Bus Station at State Road, near New Castle, for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Watson.

Friends may call 11:30 a.m.-noon Thursday in the Pastoral Care Chapel of the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, 100 Sunnyside Road, Smyrna.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.

Mary Jackson, 102

LAUREL - Mary Jackson of Laurel, died of acute renal failure Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 102.

Ms. Jackson was born Oct. 15, 1895, the daughter of the late William and Sara Ellen Hill Jackson.

She was a former domestic worker.

Ms. Jackson was a member of St. Matthew's First Baptist Church, Laurel.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's First Baptist Church, Wolf Street, Laurel, with the Rev. Nathan McCoy officiating.

Friends may call at the church two hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Freddie M. Jones, 63

HARRINGTON - Freddie M. Jones of Harrington, died of heart failure Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in his home. He was 63.

Mr. Jones was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He was a supervisor at the DuPont Co. in Seaford, and retired in 1987.

He is survived by a son, Jeffery Dickerson of Harrington; a daughter, Vondoleir Jackson of Wilmington; two sisters, Shirley Murray of Harrington and Alice Goudine of Franklin, Va.; three grandchildren; a newphew, Rick Jones of Harrington; and extended family.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington.

Burial will be private.

Samuel O. LeCates Jr., 60

HARRINGTON - Samuel O. LeCates Jr. of Harrington, died of heart failure Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 60.

Mr. LeCates was an automotive parts clerk for the Delaware Department of Transportation.

He is survived by his wife, Johnna H. LeCates.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Barbara A. Walizer, 48

GEORGETOWN - Barbara A. Walizer of rural Georgetown, and formerly of Philadelphia, died of cancer Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in her home. She was 42.

Miss Walizer was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Richard E. Walizer and Barbara McColpin Walizer.

She was a school bus driver for K & S Bus Service of Bridgeville.

In addition to her parents, with whom she lived, she is survived by a son, Mark A. Walizer of Millsboro; three brothers, Richard Walizer of Ellendale, and Leonard Walizer and Ezra Walizer, both of Philadelphia; two uncles, Raymond and Francis McColpin; and an aunt, Kathryn Paulk of Georgia.

Service and burial will be private.

Josephine R. Ross, 81

DOVER - Josephine R. Ross of Dover, died of coronary arterial disease after a short illness, Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in Bayhealth Medical Center-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 81.

Mrs. Ross was born March 13, 1917, in Marydel, Md., the daughter of the late William and Mattie Patton.

She was a supervisor at Vineland State School, Vineland, N.J., for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ross.

She is survived by a son, Ontry Patton, and a stepson, Charles Griffin, both of Dover; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Parker's Chapel, Marydel, Del., with Bishop Dorine Miles officiating.

Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Parker's Chapel Cemetery following the service.

Victor Russell Epolito Sr., 79

GEORGETOWN - Victor Russell Epolito Sr. died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in his home. He was 79.

Mr. Epolito was born Oct. 14, 1918, in Fredonia, N.Y., the son of the late Archie and Mary Epolito.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 511th Airborne unit and was among a group of 49 soldiers who parachuted into New Guinea.

Mr. Epolito was a former manager of Georgetown Gas Co., retiring in 1983.

He was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church, Georgetown; a member and past president of the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce; a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club; and a member of the Delmarva Gas Association. He also was active in the American Legion, a Moose lodge, the Georgetown Historical Society, the Midland Grange, the Sussex County Association of Towns and the Delaware League of Local Governments. He also was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen, Nassau, and past president of the Nanticoke Tribe of Georgetown and the state Order of Redmen.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche Rust Epolito of Georgetown; a son, Victor Russell Epolito Jr. of Milton; two daughters, Pat Joseph of Seaford and Sharon Moore of Georgetown; three brothers, John Epolito and Peter Epolito, both of Fredonia, and Guy Epolito of Dunkirk, N.Y.; two grandsons, Merrill Moore Jr. of Georgetown and Anthony Joseph of Seaford; and a granddaughter, Jill Litten of Georgetown.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Dodd Carey Chapel of Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, with the Rev. Roland Tice officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
