Delaware High School Yearbooks by County

McKinnon, Robert H. –– Barclay, Md. Died Friday, June 13, 2003, at age 57, in his home. He was an automobile salesman, working most recently for Colonial Chevrolet-Buick in Chestertown, Md. Survived by his wife of 22 years, Joyce Everett McKinnon. Locally survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robin T. and Michael Rigby of Marydel; and two brothers, Elmer McKinnon of Woodside and Frank McKinnon of Marydel. Burial was in Sudlersville Cemetery, Sudlersville.

Murphy, Harry –– Goldsboro, Md. Died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at age 81, at Talbot Hospice House, Eason. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. He worked for a time at Playtex Corporation in Dover, and retired as a button cutter and a farmer. Burial was in Concord Cemetery, Denton.

Reynolds, Aaron T. –– Smyrna. Died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at age 68, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He worked for Playtex Distribution before becoming an electrical inspector for the First State Inspection Agency, retiring in 2000. Survived by his wife of 47 years, H. Marie Brown Reynolds. Locally survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Charles W. and June Clough of Felton; and a sister and brother-in-law, Elva and Mickey Clough of Dover. Burial was private.

Sipple, Alfred F. ‘Pete’ –– Milton. Died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at age 75, in his home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked as a cocoa bean roaster operator for Kraft Foods in Dover for 28 years, retiring in 1992. Locally survived by his companion of 15 years, Marion Case of Dover; a brother, George E. Sipple of Magnolia; and a sister, Phyliss M. Aaron of Magnolia. Burial was private.

Snowden, Grace Ann –– Milford. Died Monday, June 9, 2003, at age 85, in her home. She worked in Mulholland’s in Milford for more than 30 years before retiring. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

States, J. Irven –– Greensboro, Md. Died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at age 77, in his home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and delivered milk for the Sealtest Milk Skipton Plant for 25 years. Survived by his wife of 35 years, Joyce States. Locally survived by two children, James Leslie States and Wynette Martin, both of Marydel, and a sister, Eva Grey of Dover. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. the evening before. Burial will be in Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely, Md.

Taylor, Margaret Burris –– Smyrna. Died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at age 86, in Green Valley Pavilion, Smyrna. She was a dietitian for the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna for 15 years before retiring. Locally survived by a son, Howard Klaumenzer of Hartly. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Tuttle, Elizabeth H. ‘Libby’ –– Newark. Died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at age 86, in her home. She was a captain in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, and served in the European Front during World War II. She was one of the first female members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Locally survived by a daughter, Ann S. Alexander of Dover. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Wickes, Allen Preston –– Chestertown, Md. Died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at age 58, in Magnolia Nursing Center, Chestertown. Locally survived by a daughter, Shona Boyce of Dover.

Alexander, Lillian G. "Georgie" –– Warwick, Md. Died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at age 58, in her home. She was a horsewoman, working for Island Arabian Farm near Warwick. Survived by her husband of 43 years, Joseph L. Alexander. Locally survived by a daughter, Rose Mary Mosley of Dover; three sisters, Mary Cole of Pearson's Corner, Avis Knotts of Kenton and Stella McGinnis of Felton; and a brother, Jimmy Lee Snow of Hartly. Burial will be in Delaney Chapel Cemetery, Clayton.

Barnhardt, Jerry Townsend Jr. –– Rock Hall, Md. Died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at age 41, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown, Md. He was a jack-of-all-trades, working with everything from electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, auto mechanics and paving. Locally survived by his mother, Ruth Aileen Kramer Elburn, and a sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and David Cahall, all of Dover. Burial was private.

Blocksom, Viola –– Seaford. Died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at age 89, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. Locally survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Joanne Gibson, Mary and H. Nelson Burton, and Joyce Bowers, all of Dover. Interment was in Macedonia Cemetery, Seaford.

Brevard, Robert "Bobby" –– Smyrna. Died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at age 60, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a correctional officer with the Department of Correction in Smyrna for 27 years. Survived by his companion, Catherine Wayman of Smyrna. Locally survived by his former wife, Joan C. Leggins of Dover; a close friend and confidant, Samuel S. Seymour Jr. of Dover; and a godson, Samuel S. Seymour III, of Dover. Burial was in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Briddell, Ollie Alberta "Beanie" –– Greenwood. Died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at age 67, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was employed at various poultry plants throughout Sussex County, and retired from Townsends Inc. in 1996. Locally survived by a daughter, Sylvia Hines of Dover. Burial was in Old Hickory Cemetery, Slaughter Neck.

Buckley, Susan L. –– Penns Grove, N.J. Died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at age 76, in the Memorial Hospital of Salem County in Salem, N.J. Locally survived by a daughter, Martha Hosterman of Dover. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, York, Pa.

Cherry, Phyllis D. –– Milford, formerly of Mesa, Ariz. Died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at age 69, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was a homemaker. Burial was private.

Ciccarelli, Cpl. Michael R. III –– Jacksonville, N.C. Died as a result of an automobile accident Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at age 22. A member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he is locally survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael R. Ciccarelli of Dover. Burial was in the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.

DeRose, Nicholas D. –– Lewes. Died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at age 74, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a military policeman, and was employed as a prison guard at the Delaware Correctional Center where he retired after 27 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gladys Boyd DeRose. Locally survived by a sister, Anna Dixon of Marydel. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Donovan, Iva –– Smyrna. Died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at age 93, in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. Burial was in Slaughter Neck Cemetery, Slaughter Neck.
