Abreu, Aurora J. – Landover, Md. Died Monday, June 3, 2002, at age 41. Survived locally by her mother, Thelma E. Atkins of Dover. Services were held at Torbert Funeral Home. Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Benson, Nakeysha Andrea “Keysha” Watson – Lincoln. Died Sunday, June 2, 2002 in Johns Hopkins University’s Bayview Hospital, Baltimore at age 25. She was a fun-loving and outgoing person with her family and the community. Her favorite activities included going to school games, going to Wal-Mart on Sunday morning and getting her nails done. She was a member of Greater Love Temple Church. Survived locally by her sister, Keandra Drummond of Milford; mother-in-law, Nita Benson of Felton; a grandparent, Perry Gilbert of Felton; her best friend, Lisa Binigns of Milford; a godchild, Keyaira Mitchell of Milford. Services were at Greater Life Christian Church, Star Hill. Burial was at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milford.

Cooper, Pearl M. – Milford. Died Friday, June 7, 2002, at age 89, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was a loan officer for Wilmington Trust Co. in Milford for 35 years, retiring in 1977. Ms. Cooper was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Milford, and of the AARP. Survived locally by a niece, Betty Jean Malarkey of Milford. Services were by Rogers Funeral Home, Milford. Burial was at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Ellis, Anna Ethel – Greensboro, Md. Died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at age 99. She had owned the Tea Room in Greensboro for 15 years, from 1926 to 1941. Mrs. Ellis was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Greensboro. Survived locally by a cousin, Alfreda Edge of Frederica. Services were held at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro. Burial was in Greensboro Cemetery.

Newnam, Helen Elizabeth “Sugar” Hynson – Chestertown, Md. Died Friday, May 31, 2002, at age 57, in Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital, Chestertown. Mrs. Newnam was a member of St. George United Methodist Church, Worton Point, Md. Survived locally by a brother, Stevenson Hynson of Marydel; and a sister Carolyn Stansbury of Marydel. Services were held at St. George United Methodist Church, Worton Point. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Polgar, Steven J. – Laurel. Died Monday, June 3, 2002, at age 77, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. He was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. Mr. Polgar was a member of the American Legion Post 19, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Loyal Order of Moose 645. Survived locally by a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Dale Cawby of Frederica; a grandson, Steven Cawby and his wife Sheri of Frederica. Visitation was at Short Funeral Home, Laurel, with a private burial in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery.

Porter, John E. Jr. – Harrington. Died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at age 57. He went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad more than 39 years ago, and during his career was employed by its successors, the Penn Central, Conrail, and most recently, Norfolk Southern, working his way up to conductor. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, playing pool and softball. He belonged to the United Transportation Union and the to Harrington Moose Lodge 534. Survived locally by a sister, Doris J. Greenlee and a granddaughter, Clarissa E. Sharp, both of Felton. Memorial services were held at Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.

Richey, Carole F. – Newark. Died Sunday, June 2, 2002,at age 60, surrounded by her loving family. She was a homemaker and worked as a crossing guard for New Castle County for 17 years, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed Nascar, playing pool and going to Atlantic City, and was an avid bowler. Survived locally by a sister, Catherine Hart of Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Newark. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Sanders, Edward J. “Spike” – Westminster, Md. Died Friday, June 7, 2002, at age 76. He enjoyed hunting, billiards, fishing, archery and traveling, and had been to all 50 states. Mr. Sanders received several gold medals at the Maryland Senior Olympics in archery and billiards. Survived locally by a daughter, Sharon A. Seifert of Dover. Services were at the Fletcher Funeral Home, Westminster. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Sharp, Leroy – Seaford. Died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at age 76, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He worked in the poultry industry for 25 years, last working for Allen’s. Survived locally by a brother, Larry P. Friend of Dover. Services were at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home P.A. in Federalsburg, Md. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Preston, Md.

Stanley, Woodrow W. “Woody” – Millsboro. Died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at age 89 at his home. Mr. Stanley was a former maintenance supervisor for the De La Warr School District, retiring in 1979. He was a long-term member and officer of the Holloway Terrace Volunteer Fire Company and a past president of the New Castle County Volunteer Firemen’s Association. Survived locally by a sister, Mary Morton of Dover. Services were held in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle. Burial was in the adjoining memorial park.

Stratton, Anna Mae Banks – Seaford. Died of heart failure Thursday, May 30, 2002, at age 76, in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden, N.J. She was retired from the Dulany Frozen Foods plant in Bridgeville. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was a communion stewardess and a member of the women’s society and the senior choir She was also a member of the American Legion Post 37 Auxiliary, Seaford. Survived locally by a son, Donald Banks of Dover. Services were held at John Wesley United Methodist Church, Seaford. Burial was in Mount Calvary A.M.E. Church cemetery, Concord.

Thornton, Dorothy M. – New Castle. Died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at age 77, in Genesis Eldercare-Silverlake Center, Dover, Survived locally by a son, Leonard B. Cobourn of Harrington. Visitation was at Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Burial was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Wilson, Robert James “Bobby Bulldog” Sr. – Sandtown. Died Friday, June 7, 2002, at age 48, at home. He was self-employed, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved animals, especially pit bulls. Survived locally by daughters, Millie E. Briamble of Marydel, Md., and Morgan L. Wilson of Dover; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Sandy Krumm of Magnolia; and his extended family, the Frank Thompson family of Marydel, Md. Arrangements were by Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.

Wright, Robert Edward Jr. – Greensboro, Md. Died of natural causes Sunday, June 9, 2002, at age 84, in Memorial Hospital, Easton, Md. He was a graduate of Lockerman School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed by Salisbury Brothers for 35 years, most recently as supervisor. Mr. Wright was a member of Union United Methodist Church, Goldsboro. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. Survived locally by a son and daughter-in-law, Wadell and Denise Wright, both of Dover. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at Union United Methodist Church, Goldsboro. Burial will be in Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, near Hurlock.

Yasko, Wanda Yvonne O’Neal – Lewes. Died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at age 39, in Harbor Health Care. Survived locally by her mother and stepfather, Mary Louise and Robert O. Cole Jr., of Dover; four sisters, Teresa Laws, Bobbie Miller, Victoria Deller and Dawn Cole, all of Dover; and four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert Cole IV, Edward Cole, Earl and Theresa Cole of Dover, and Danny and Michele Cole of Hartly. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Faith Baptist Church, Delaware Route 300, Clayton. Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Home, Dover.

Baldwin, Ronald J. Sr. – Milton. Died at age 64, Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, in his home. Locally survived by a stepson, Richard Reynolds of Dover. Services will be held privately.

McClain, Donald H. Sr. – Smyrna, formerly of Newark. Died peacefully at age 72, in his home Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006.

McGlon, Marvin ‘Bear’ Jr. – Smyrna. Died at age 57, Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. Locally survived two brothers and a sister-in-law, William Taylor and Herman and Cheryl Fuller, all of Dover. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery, Dover.

Shockley, William Robert ‘Bucky’ Sr. – Elkton, Md. Died at age 71, Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, in Elkton. Locally survived by a son, Wayne R. Shockley and two daughters, Virginia Shockley and Diana Shockley, all of Hartly. Interment was private. Arrangements were by Hicks Home for Funerals, Elkton.

Bowdle, Cathyll Audrey Layton – Harrington. Died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at age 88, in her home. Interment was in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Bradley, Vernon Edward Sr. – Wharton, W. Va., formerly of Farmington. Died after a short illness Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at age 69, in Charleston General Hospital in West Virginia. Survived locally by three daughters, Kathy Wilson, Brenda Sullivan and Becky Heavrin, all of Dover. Interment was in Osborne Cemetery.
