Grace Elizabeth Musser

Grace Elizabeth Musser, 85, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Dover and Laurel, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, in Grace Health Care, Lakeland.

Mrs. Musser was born Nov. 20, 1918, in Laurel.

She graduated from Laurel High School and from the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing in 1940.

Mrs. Musser worked as a registered nurse for the state of Delaware, as a public health nurse and as the school nurse for the Mount Pleasant School District until her retirement.

Mrs. Musser was a member of the Laurel High School Alumni Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Y. Musser.

She is survived by a son, Wayne H. Musser of Lakeland, and two grandchildren.

Services will be in Delaware at the convenience of the family.

Patricia ‘Patty’ Pepper-Hiscox

Services for Patricia “Patty” Pepper-Hiscox, 50, of Marydel will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Ralph Ellis will officiate.

Mrs. Pepper-Hiscox died after a courageous battle with cancer Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Sept. 1, 1954, in Dover, daughter of George and Louise Pepper of Marydel.

She graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1972.

Mrs. Pepper-Hiscox was a licensed beautician/cosmetologist and began her working career at several area shops before establishing her own business, Patty’s Cut and Curl, in 1978. She ran the business for the last two years from her home in Marydel.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, floral arranging, cake decorating and many other crafts. Besides her dedication and commitment to her profession she had a genuine love and concern for animals and was a loving and protecting mother to her many pets.

Mrs. Pepper-Hiscox recently achieved her license and certification in massage therapy.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Michael Arndt, June 29, 1983; a sister Diane Begnoche, Jan. 15, 1999; and a nephew Justin Begnoche, Nov. 5, 1980.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pepper-Hiscox is survived by her loving husband of one year, David M. Hiscox; a nephew, U.S. Army Private 1st Class Christopher Begnoche of Fort Lewis, Wash.; two brothers-in-law, Ernest Hiscox and his wife Berri of Bartley, N.H., and Thomas Hiscox and his wife Cass of New Holland, Pa.; a sister-in-law Ruth Tkachuk and her husband Bruce of Harrington; her mother-in-law Clara Hiscox of Harrington; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Kent County; and her special and extended family of close clients and friends that she made over the years.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Veterinary Clinic of the University of Pennsylvania, c/o the funeral home.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Chief Master Sgt. Frank George Reichardt, USAF (Ret.)

Funeral services for retired Chief Master Sgt. Frank George Reichardt, 64, of Dover, were held Monday, Nov. 1, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. Mr. Reichardt died Monday, Oct. 24, 2004, in Vail, Colo.

Mr. Reichardt was born Feb. 17, 1940, in Passaic, N.J., to the late Frank J. and Mildred Vanca Reichardt.

Mr. Reichardt enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957 and retired with the rank of chief master sergeant in 1987 after serving his country for 30 years. During his military career, he served overseas, including tours in Greenland, Germany and Japan and received numerous awards and citations including the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters.

He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, a life member of the Walter L. Fox American Legion Post 2, the Disabled American Veterans of Camden and Modern Maturity Center of Dover. He enjoyed camping, hunting and traveling, especially to Colorado to visit his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Connie Lunz Reichardt; a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Abby Reichardt of Dover; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Francine and Norm Anderson of Dover, Rhonda Reichardt of Silverthorne, Colo., and Shona and Fred Koetteritz of Vail; and two granddaughters, Christina and Emily Koetteritz.

Arrangements were by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.

Internment was at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

James Shallcross Richardson

Funeral services for James Shallcross Richardson, 92, of Magnolia will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Camden. Mr. Richardson died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Mr. Richardson was born Aug. 6, 1912, in Magnolia, son of the late Herbert C. and Mary B. Slaymaker Richardson.

He was a member of Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club, Union Lodge No. 7 AF&FM, Scottish Rite, Fruitland Grange, Delaware Farm Bureau and Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village.

Mr. Richardson was the former president of the Camden Town Council and had been an avid University of Delaware football fan for over 40 years. He spent his working life on his Magnolia farm and retired 25 years ago to live on the farm and continue to enjoy its activities part-time.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Harry Sullivan of Magnolia; three granddaughters and the husbands of two, Tracey and Kelvin Dickenson of Bear, Kim and David Teague of Sugar Hill, Ga. and Liz Riley of Seattle; his niece and her husband, Jane and Steve Carmichael of Orange, Calif.; three great-grandchildren Luke and Sam Dickenson and Karis Teague.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village Endowment Fund, 866 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or the Simpson Richardson Scholarship Fund, c/o Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 16 N. Main St., Camden, DE 19934 Attn: J. Edwards.

Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. Friends may greet the family following the interment.

William A. Wales Jr.

Funeral services for William A. Wales Jr., 73, of Dover, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call starting at 11 a.m. Mr. Wales died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Wales was born Oct. 21, 1931, in Sparrows Point, Md., to the late William A. and Hattie Stilky Hunt Wales.

He was a farmer.

Mr. Wales was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ostrowski Wales, in 1997.

He is survived by three sons and their wives, Bernie and Linda Wales of Hartly, Jerry and Stephanie Wales of Dover, and William A. and Esther Wales III of Clayton; two daughters and their husbands, Madeline and Dennis Collins of Dover, and Maryann and James Beck of Marydel; a sister, Ann Lednum of Bozman, Md.; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Lotus Plaza, Dover, DE 19901.

Burial will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

David Lee Austin

Funeral services for David Lee Austin, 64, of Dover were held Tuesday, Oct. 19, in Shiloh Baptist Church in Landover, Md. Mr. Austin died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, in his home.

Mr. Austin was born Feb. 29, 1940, in Federalsburg, Md., the fifth of 11 children of the late John T. and Hattie W. Austin.

He graduated from Lockerman High School in Denton, Md., as valedictorian of the class of 1958.

He matriculated at Howard University as a pre-med student for three years and received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the District of Columbia University, Washington, D.C.

Mr. Austin married his childhood sweetheart, Edwina Downes, on Aug. 26, 1961.

He worked at the U.S. Post Office in Washington for many years. He was also a proficient program analyst working with the Department of the Navy in Washington, retiring in 2001. Upon retirement he became a private consultant until 2003.

He was a highly intelligent and technically skilled in the use of computers. His relaxing time involved bowling, basketball and tennis. He was an avid golf fan and he loved to watch football.

Mr. Austin was an affectionate, sweet, gentle, strong, meek and patient man. Anger was not a part of his nature, so one rarely, if ever, saw him angry. He had an infectious and endearing smile and a calming spirit that made you feel at ease in his presence. He was a devoted, faithful, and loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. To know him was a true blessing.

When he was younger, Mr. Austin was a member of Zion Methodist Church in Federalsburg. He attended Calvary Baptist Church upon moving to Dover.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael David Austin; three sisters, Dorothy Jones, Ruth Austin, Mary Pullen; and two brothers, Johnnie Alston and Nelson Alston.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Austin is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and William Wells of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Keyona Harris of Dover, Steve Allen Bush and Shaneá Wells, both of Memphis; and a spirit adopted daughter, Stacey Downes of Philadelphia.

He also is survived by four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Andrew and Alice Austin of New York, George and Bernice Austin of Lanham, Md., James Austin of New Carlton Md., and the Rev. Joseph and the Rev. Janice Austin of Germantown, Md.; and a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Carroll Carter of Felton.

Lastly, Mr. Austin is survived by his in-laws, Jean Austin of Lanham, Md., Elsworth and Nan Boyce of Greensboro, Md., Oliver and Mary Downes of Canton, N.C., Vella Beulah of Denton, Md., Reginald and Debbie Downes of Yeadon, Pa., Rosalie Jackson of Ridgely, Md., Joyce McColley, Jean Downes, and Mary Ellen Scott, all of Philadelphia; two aunts, Lula Banks of Trenton, N.J., and Cordell McClean of San Francisco; and a spiritual adopted brother and sister, Roger and the Rev. Jean A. Wilson of Dover; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arrangements were by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.

Burial was in Washington National Cemetery, Suitland, Md.

Joann B. Austin

Remembrance services for Joann B. Austin, 67, of Dover will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Mrs. Austin died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Mrs. Austin was born Nov. 12, 1936, in Harrisburg, Pa., daughter of the late Charles and Eva Shade Bishop.

She graduated from West Shore High School in 1954 and joined the U. S. Air Force on Nov. 16, 1954, as a flight-traffic specialist. She met her loving husband, Lloyd, while in the service, and separated from the Air Force in 1961 to marry and raise her family. She and her family moved to Dover in 1973 when her husband was transferred to Dover Air Force Base. She loved traveling, reading and taking care of her family.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Austin is survived by a son, David L. Austin of Dover; a daughter, Linda A. Austin of Camarillo, Calif.; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Judith and Ken Oliver of Ambler, Pa. and Robert Austin of Decatur, Ill.; a niece, Cheryl Wuest of Dresher, Pa.; a nephew, Eric Wuest of Fort Washington, Pa.; and a cousin, Bonnie Landino of Harrisburg, Pa.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Burial will be in the Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill, Pa.

Ethel Sewell Bennett

Funeral services for Ethel Sewell Bennett, 81, of Dover will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where friends may call one hour earlier. Mrs. Bennett died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, in Capitol Health Care in Dover.

Mrs. Bennett was born April 25, 1923, in Queenstown, Md., daughter of the late James Kersey and Julia M. Young Sewell.

Following the untimely death of her parents, she was raised by Rolph and Louise Glenn Stoops. She attended school in Fairlee, Md.

Mrs. Bennett married Roland Bennett on Dec. 14, 1940, and the couple lived in Broadneck until moving to Chestertown in 1955. She was primarily a homemaker, raising her six sons along with several grandchildren. She also operated Ethel's Adult Foster Care, three adult-care facilities, for more than 10 years.

In the early 1990s, she and her husband moved to Smyrna, and later to Dover.

She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and knitting; however, her life revolved around her family.

Mrs. Bennett was a member of Capitol Baptist Church in Dover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Feb. 1, 2001.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her six sons, Barry Craig Bennett of Chestertown, Roland Lee Bennett of Greensboro, Md., Michael Brian Bennett of Chestertown, Leonard “Kerry” Bennett of Waldorf, Md., Danny Sewell Bennett of Rock Hall, Md., and Richard Wayne Bennett of Chestertown.

She also is survived by two sisters, Mary Sewell Sparks of West Chester, Pa., and Leliah May Sewell Hunter of Grasonville, Md.; a brother, Calvin Coolidge Sewell of Chester, Md.; 17 grandchildren, Lori, Bonnie, Roland, John, Curtis, Dawn, R. Wayne, Robbie, Melissa, Brian, Jody, Bryan, Scott, Jenna, Nicholas, Danny and Tobie; and 13 great-grandchildren, Robbie, Anthony, Levi, Dylan, Roland, Chelsea, Morgan, Travis, Brittney, Ryan, Curtis, Sara and Madison.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Capitol Health Care, 1225 Walker Road, Dover, DE 19901; to Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesselring Ave., Dover, DE 19901; or to Hospice of Delaware, Lotus Plaza, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Burial will be in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown.
