Mr. Truman Ernest "Ernie" O Brien, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the age of 85 years. He was born in Royal Oak, Michigan. Ernie served his country in the US Navy in World War II. He moved to Leesburg from Ft. Myers, Florida in 2002, where he and his wife, Jean, lived since 1986, when they moved from Hialeah, Florida. He was a retired Sheet Metal Mechanic from Pan American World Airways in Miami. Ernie was a member of Lake Square Presbyterian Church.
He is remembered by his wife, Jean of 62 years; son, Richard Ernest O'Brien and his wife, Charito of Ocala, FL; daughters, Debra Ellen O'Brien of Williston, FL and Susan Diane and her husband, Fred Rubenstein of Summerfiled, NC and grandson, Jeffery Ruberstein and his wife, Rosa of Greensboro, NC.
Friends were invited to gather for visitation on Monday, January 3, 2011 from 3-5 PM in the funeral home chapel. A funeral ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 11AM at the Lake Square Presbyterian Church in Leesburg. Burial followed at Lakeside Memory Gardens. Arrangements were entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, Tavares, FL.

Elizabeth W. Woodhall
January 5, 1919 - December 6, 2010
Mrs. Elizabeth W. Woodhall, of Tavares, FL, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the age of 91. She was born in East Penfield, NY and moved to Florida from Rochester, NY about 30 years ago. Elizabeth graduated from Bluffton University in Ohio with a Major in Music. She retired as a secretary from the Colgate Divinity School in Rochester. Elizabeth was a member and the organist for Fairport Baptist Church in Rochester. Her passion was music and was expressed throughout her life and in her memberships at the Orlando Theatre Organ Society and the Pedal Pushers.
Elizabeth is remembered by her step-daughters, Barbara (Charles) Remillard of Rochester, NY, Ruth (Edward) Tripp of Tavares, FL, Margaret Woodhall of Napa, CA and Marjorie (Richard) McLean of Port Richey, FL; nephews, James (Mary) Castor of Rochester and Steven (Catherine) Castor of Connecticut; as well as 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Vincent de Paul, 218 Ocklawaha Avenue, Eustis, FL 32726. Graveside service will be held at Whitehaven Memorial Park in Rochester, NY through the assistance of Van Schleich and Meeson Funeral Home, Rochester, NY (585)227-2700. William J. Gurchie
December 22, 1932 - January 30, 2011
Mr. William J. Gurchie, of Tavares, Florida, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the age of 78 years. He was born in Clinton, Indiana to Joseph and Helen (Muncie) Gurchie. He and his wife of 50 years, Barb, moved to Tavares in 1993 from Rockville, Indiana. They also had an apartment in Danville, Illinois, where they both worked for 30 years, while traveling back to their home on Raccoon Lake in Rockville. William was a retired computer specialist. He enjoyed working on computers. He loved to cruise and travel, going on 12 cruises. He also loved boating, working on houses and carpentry. Bill was a wonderful and talented artist, painting many pictures. He is remembered by his wife Barb; sons; Kevin Gurchie of Westville, Illinois, Michael Gurchie and his wife, Pam of Mobile, Alabama and Mark West and his wife, Nicole of Plantation, Florida; daughters, Sandy Ray and her husband, Lester of Danville, Illinois and Madonna Satterwhite and her husband Steve of Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Scott Ray of Danville, IL, Tony West of Plantation, FL, Damon Martinez of OK and Stephanie Martinez of OK; as well as several great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Florida Hospital Waterman Foundation (Cancer Institute in memo), 1500 Waterman Way, Tavares, FL 32778 or the American Lung Association of Florida, 6852 Belfort Oaks Place, Jacksonville, Florida 32216. Stephen Maleski
December 26, 1918 - January 28, 2011
Mr. Stephen Maleski, of Gainesville, FL, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the age of 92 years. He was born in Jersey City, NJ. Stephen served his country in the Air Force in WWII in the Philippines. He moved to Mount Dora, FL from Jersey City in 1949 and recently relocated to Gainesville. Stephen retired from Prudential Insurance after 23 years. He was a member of St. Edward s Episcopal Church in Mount Dora, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion of Mount Dora, Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Eastern Star of Mount Dora and the Elks Lodge of Eustis, FL. Stephen was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Elizabeth in 1992. He is remembered by his wife of 16 years, Marjorie; son, Stephen W. (Melody) Maleski of Tavares, FL; step-son, Richard A. (Judi) Moots of Winter Haven, FL; step-daughter, Barbara Horner of Palm Bay, FL, as well as 6 grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as Popeye and several great grandchildren. The family invites friends to gather for viewing on Monday, January 31 from 6 8 pm at the funeral home. A graveside ceremony will be held on Tuesday at 11 am at Lakeside Memory Gardens in Eustis. Florence Hedegard
February 11, 1915 - January 31, 2011
Florence O. Hedegard 95, of Tavares and Ormond Beach passed away in Tavares on Monday January 31, 2011. She was born in Logansport, Indiana and was a Lutheran. Mrs. Hedegard was a retired beautician. She was predeceased by two husbands, Orlie Pumel and Sven Hedegard and her son Virgil Pumel. Mrs. Hedegard is survived by her daughters, Elaine (David) Cole of Whiteland, Indiana and Mary (Kuz) Parker of Astor, Florida, her companion James Conner of Tavares, stepchildren Glen Hedegard, Roger Hedegard and Sharon Lyles, and a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel in Tavares on Thursday, February 3rd at 11 AM with Chaplain Mark Douglas officiating, interment will follow in Tavares cemetery. Friends may call from 10 AM until the funeral hour.

Harold R. Benedict, 96, of Southwoods Assisted Living Community in Titusville, Pennsylvania, died peacefully Tuesday, November 29, 2011. He was born August 22, 1915 in Pleasantville, PA, a son of the late Leo Orville Benedict and Jane Dunham Benedict. Harold graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1933 and took Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering extension courses from The Pennsylvania State University. He married Lois Pearl Korb on June 24, 1942; Mrs. Benedict preceded him in death June 24, 2011. Harold was employed in the oil industry all of his life. It was his vocation as well as his avocation. He worked as district production supervisor for Quaker State Oil Refining Corporation until his retirement in 1977. In addition, he and other family members operated an oil producing property which was in the Benedict family for 114 years, from 1866 until 1980. He was 4th generation oil producer. Over the years, he was active in Boy Scouts and served as scoutmaster and committeeman on Council of Scouts. He was a charter member of the Pleasantville Lions Club and has served in various offices of the organization including president. He was also a member of Pleasantville Presbyterian Church where he had been very active over the years. Harold has served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Church Treasurer, Church Board of Trustees, the Session and Clerk of Session. In 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Benedict moved to Clermont, Fla., where they became active members of the Clermont Recreation Center. They enjoyed both shuffleboard and duplicate bridge. While in Florida, he achieved state amateur level success in shuffleboard. Harold also enjoyed golfing. They returned to Pennsylvania in 2007. Survivors include two children: a daughter, Judy Babbony and her husband, Tom of Pottstown, PA; a son, Roger Benedict and his wife, Carole of Tomball, Texas; five grandchildren: Jason Benedict and his wife, Allison of Richmond, VA; Julie Housemanand her husband, Dennis of Kennett Square, PA; Heather Temple and her husband, Jeremy of Blandon, PA; Alex Benedict of Tomball, TX and Thomas Babbony and his wife, Holly of Gilbertsville, PA; four great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Silas Benedict, Evan Temple and Gabriella Babbony; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Clare and Bill Barger of Bellevue, Wash.; brothers-in-law, Leroy Korb of Warren, PA and Warren Sparks of Pleasantville, PA; a sister-in-law, Marie Benedict of Hydetown, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Benedict Dickerson Cox, Jane Benedict Lindquist and Helen Jean Benedict Sparks; four brothers, Robert, Richard, Charles and David Benedict. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Pleasantville, PA. Memorial contributions can be made to Pleasantville Presbyterian Church, 155 E. State St., Pleasantville, PA 16341; or to Hospice of Crawford County, 318 N. Monroe St., Titusville, PA 16354.

William Rodney Sleaford, Jr. of Eustis, FL passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the age of 81 years. He was born in Howell Township, Michigan. Bill proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp. during the Korean War as a sergeant in the bomb disposal unit. After he returned from the war, he attended and graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in business. Bill retired from retail sales and facility management. He moved to Vero Beach, FL in 1972 from East Lansing, Michigan. In 1996, he relocated to Lake County, Florida. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Taylor. He also enjoyed a good game of Golf. He is remembered and will be dearly missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Cathy Sleaford of New Smyrna Beach, FL; sister, Merib Kruger and her husband, Fred of Charlevoix, Michigan; and grandson, Taylor McCarty Sleaford of Castle Rock, Colorado. Cathrine Berdine (Knotts) Wayne, 90, of Orma WV, went to be with the lord Thursday Feb. 25, 2016 at LRMC. She was survived by her husband of 67 years Wheeler Wayne, her son Michael Wayne, daughter-in-law Donna Wayne, her 2 grandchildren Caressia Hoy and Michael Wayne. She had 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents Howard and Vena (Westfall) Knotts, 5 brothers Eucle Knotts, Walter Knotts, Victor Knotts, Raymond Knotts and Charles Knotts. She had 2 sisters Opal Queen and Ruby Alexander. She was a beautician for 23 years. Graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1944 and she was a member of the Eastern Star.There will be a memorial for her at a later date. Mary Catherine (Kay) Rymer
Kay of Leesburg passed on January 25, 2016 peacefully in her sleep at home. Kay was born in Brownsville PA. on October 31 1931 to Clarance and Mary Hunnell. She is survived by her husband David, daughter Marsha son David, 3 grand daughters and 9 great grand children. Prior to her retirement she had owned and operated Images Botique in Satellite Beach FL, where Kay and the family had resided for 25 years. Services will be held at a later date at there home in North Carolina.

Catherine Bourlett
April 24, 1919 - January 18, 2011
Mrs. Catherine Bourlett, of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the age of 91 years. She was born in Carrollton, Mississippi to David and Mary (Beard) Wiltshire. Catherine was married to the late John T. Bourlett, who preceded her in death in 1990. She and John moved to the Mount Dora area in the mid 1970's from North Bergen, New Jersey after she retired from Hunter College in New York City. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora. Catherine enjoyed quilting, making quilts for several family members and even teaching them how to quilt. She was a wonderful homemaker who loved her family.
She is remembered by her sons, John T. Bourlett, Jr. and his wife, Roberta of Temecula, California and Steve Bourlett and his wife, Michelle of Tiverton, Rhode Island; sister, Nell Tate of Coila, Mississippi; grandchildren, John Bourlett, Sandra Askins, Jason Bourlett, Noah Bourlett and Patrick Bourlett; as well as 8 great grandchildren.

Alice M. Michels
February 16, 1926 - December 14, 2010
Alice May Michels, 84, of Tavares FL, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday December 14.
She was born to the late Charles and Alice Fisher, Feb 16, 1926, in Buffalo NY. Alice graduated from South Park High School in Buffalo in 1942 and received a BA in Education from Buffalo State University in 1946. She married Fred Michels in June 26, 1948. They lived together in Buffalo, Pleasantville, Rochester NY, and Wilmington DE before retiring to Florida in 1984.
Alice was a homemaker and elementary school teacher and was passionate about reading and keeping up with relatives and friends with letters and visits. She co-authored four books on her family s genealogy. She was a charter member of the Round Robin continuous letter chain with college classmates starting in 1946. She was an active, enthusiastic volunteer at Trout Lake Nature Center in Eustis FL and over 15 years at the Hagley Museum in Wilmington DE. Alice was an avid bird-watcher and quilt-maker, creating a quilt for each of 13 grandchildren. Her four sons all achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Alice was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church Eustis FL. She loved to travel, and took 20 cruise and international trips with her husband in her lifetime.
Alice is survived by her husband Fred J Michels Sr. and four children: Fred J Michels Jr. (Ann), of Wilmington De; Charles Michels of Felton DE; David (Susan) of Marquette MI and Andrew Michels (Susan) of Oak Ridge NC. She also is survived by nieces Mimi Michels of Winter Springs FA and Marilyn Hattaway of Casselberry FL, and 13 grandchildren Allison, Ryan, Eric, Connor, Colin, Zachary, Travis, Nathan, Luke, Joshua, Christian, Jonathan and Holland.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to Faith Lutheran Church, Music Dept. 2727 South Grove Street, Eustis, Florida 32726.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 18, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church 2727 South Grove Street Eustis, Florida 32726. Burial was held separately in Buffalo, NY.
