Alice Lance
Alice Corinne Lance, 87, Ocala, died Nov. 22, 1997, at the New Horizon Rehabilitation Center, Ocala. She was born in Ft. Meade, and she was a former resident of Ocala, returning there after residing in St. Augustine. She was a member of Ancient City Baptist Church, St. Augustine.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, with the Rev. Hubert G. Bevill officiating. There is no visitation.
Mrs. Lance was the wife of the late Charles M. Lance Sr., and the mother of the late Carroll G. Lance.
Survivors include a son, Charles M. Lance Jr., Ocala; three sisters, Mary Ansley, Greenville, Ala., Frances Burnside, Dunnellon, Tootsie Hunter, Tavares; two brothers, Jack Griffin, Groveland, S.O. Griffin, Panama City; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Hiers Funeral Home, Ocala, is in charge.

Mary McGinnis
Mary Eleanor McGinnis, 71, St. Augustine, died Nov. 22, 1997, at the home of her son in Tampa.
Arrangements will be announced by Craig Funeral Home.

Charles Solana
Funeral services for Charles A. "Skeets" Solana, 74, St. Augustine, who died Nov. 21, 1997, at his home, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at San Sebastian Catholic Church, with the Rev. Peter Colasurdo, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at Craig chapel.

Putnam Calhoun
N. Putnam Calhoun, 80, St. Augustine, longtime St. Augustine businessman, died Monday evening at Flagler Hospital.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery. Further details are available by calling Craig Funeral Home, 824-1672.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Calhoun, St. Augustine; three daughters, Nancy Davis Calhoun Birchall, St. Augustine, Ann Calhoun Colee, Jacksonville, Kate Putnam Calhoun, St. Augustine; and four grandchildren.

Patricia Hofmann
Patricia Mae Hofmann, 69, St. Augustine and Brant Lake, N.Y., died Nov. 22, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East.
Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Mary McGinnis
Mary Eleanor McGinnis, 71, St. Augustine, died Nov. 22, 1997, at the home of her son in Tampa. She was born in Harrod, Ohio, and she had resided here since 1964. She attended Grace United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Salem Cemetery, Westminster, Ohio, under the direction of Hanson Funeral Home, Alger, Ohio.
Friends may call at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth H. McGinnis, Tampa, Roy Dean McGinnis, Lima, Ohio; one sister, Kathryn Saxer, Lakeside, Calif.; and one grandson.

Dr. Murray Sigman
Funeral services for Murray D. Sigman, M.D., 81, who died Nov. 21, 1997, at Jupiter Medical Center, will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Jupiter-Tequesta, 815 E. Indiantown Road, Jupiter. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach. Those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to the memorial funds of First United Methodist Church or Trinity United Methodist Church of Palm Beach Gardens.
Dr. Sigman, who was a native of St. Augustine, attended schools here and graduated from Ketterlinus High School, serving as valedictorian of his class, and active in all sports during his high school years.
He was also a former Record carrier for about 10 years during his high school days.
He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Florida, and at Temple University was named to the Babcock Surgical Society. During his practice in West Palm Beach, he served, for many years, as chief of staff of both St. Mary's and Good Samaritan hospitals, and he was named to the status of diplomat in the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After serving in World II, he practiced in St. Augustine for a year with Dr. R.D. Harris.
Northwood Funeral Home, West Palm Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Col. John Spengler
Col. John T.H. Spengler, retired, died at his home, St. Augustine Beach, Nov. 22, 1997. He was born in Archbold, Ohio, Aug. 12, 1916, the son of the late Gen. and Mrs. J.H. Spengler. A graduate of Ketterlinus High School, he was a member of the Class of 1940 of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.
His initial assignment that year was to Honolulu, Hawaii, where, on Dec. 7, 1941, he was battery officer on Sand Island. Col. Spengler's later postings included tours of duty in Panama, Ethiopia, Turkey and Southeast Asia. Among the highlights of his Army career were the command of a battalion at Fort Meade, Md.; duty as the executive officer, Gunnery Department, Fort Bliss, Texas; and consecutive tours at the Pentagon where he was instrumental in research and development activities leading to the formation of the Army Materiel Command.
In 1970, he retired as deputy director (J2), Strike Command, McDill Air Force Base, Tampa. Among his many decorations were two Legions of Merit.
After his retirement, he and his wife returned to their home in St. Augustine. He was a member of the Mullets and of the Officers Club.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sylvia Dewhurst Spengler; his daughter, Dr. Sylvia Jean Spengler; his son, LTC John Dewhurst Spengler, retired; two grandchildren, Jessica Dewhurst Spengler and John E.B. Spengler; and his sister, Margaret Hardin.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions, in his memory, to made to HAWKE or to the St. Augustine Humane Society.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Nathaniel Bellamy
Funeral services for Nathaniel Bellamy, 49, 31 S. Knowlton St., who died Nov. 20, 1997, in Flagler Hospital West, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at E.A. Kelley Sr. Church of God in Christ, with Elder E.A. Kelley Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call at Chase and Son Funeral Home chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and at the church from 1 p.m. Saturday until the hour of services.
Survivors include sons, Nathaniel Bellamy Jr., Ocala, Nathaniel Jackson, Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Charlene Mills, Catarra Viltz, Natalie Bellamy, all of Jacksonville, Laranda Bellamy, Ocala; his father, Sidney Bellamy, St. Augustine; two sisters, Lula Mannings, Geraldine Felton, St. Augustine; and other relatives.

Annie Colston
Annie Ruth Colston, 62, Fort Lauderdale, died Nov. 21, 1997, in Fort Lauderdale. Born in Quincy, she was a former St. Augustine resident, having worked for the St. Johns Health Care here. She moved to Fort Lauderdale about two years ago.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Greater Highway Church of Christ, 4441 W. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Friends may call at the James C. Boyd Funeral Home, 2324 N.W. 6th St., Fort Lauderdale, from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Survivors include seven children.

William Foley
William M. Foley, 82, St. Augustine, died Nov. 23, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East. He was born in Brigus, Newfoundland, and he moved to Massachusetts at an early age. He was a retired commercial banker. He moved to St. Augustine 25 years ago and worked for three years in the mortgage department of Barnett Bank, Jacksonville, and for six years as credit manager of Flagler Hospital. He was a member of the Catholic church.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Craig Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Doody, Cathedral Parish, officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined, and those wishing may make a contribution, in his memory, to a favorite charity.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Ann Foley Hoban, Ducksbury, Mass.; a brother, Ronald E. Foley, Massachusetts; and two grandchildren.

Thomas Gerace
Thomas Gerace, 85, St. Augustine Shores, died Nov. 22, 1997, at his home. He was born in Deferiet, N.Y., and he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired chemical engineer, working in paper mill management, and he was of the Catholic faith.
Private services were held.
Flowers are gratefully declined, and those wishing may make a donation, in his memory, to the Salesian Missions, POB 30, New Rochelle, N.Y. 10802.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes A. Gerace, St. Augustine Shores; one daughter, Karen A. Dobbin, Penobscot, Maine; two sons, Larry R. Gerace, San Diego, Calif., Alan Gerace, Rumford, Maine; two sisters, Donna Schneider, Deferiet, Catherine Palladino, Carthage, N.Y.; one brother, Anthony Gerace, Carthage; and two grandchildren.

Marie Hall
Marie R. Hall, 80, St. Augustine, died Nov. 22, 1997, in Flagler Hospital. She was born in Binghamton, N.Y., and she had resided in St. Augustine for the past year, moving here from Middletown, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at St. Denis Church, Hopewell Junction, N.Y. Burial follows in St. Denis Cemetery. Friends may call at the McHoul Funeral Home, Hopewell Junction, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Flowers are gratefully accepted, or those wishing may make a contribution, in her memory, to the American Lung Association, POB 11117, Jacksonville 32239.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Bracone, Kissimmee; a son, Kenneth J. Hall, St. Augustine; one brother, John Rehak, Yonkers, N.Y.; three sisters, Anne Baker, Binghamton, Evelyn Tittaro, West Palm Beach, Victoria Kurak, Yonkers; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Almeda Jones
Almeda C. Jones, 96, St. Augustine, died Nov. 24, 1997, at Mariner Health Care. She had resided in St. Augustine since October 1994, making her home at Coral Landing Assisted Living until October, when she moved to Mariner Health Care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at Sheridan Funeral Home, Baltimore, Ohio.
Those wishing may make a contribution, in her memory, to Anastasia Baptist Church, 1650 A1A S., St. Augustine, 32084.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah E. Von Ins, St. Augustine; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

John Mitchell
John Thomas Mitchell, 85, Hastings, died Nov. 25, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West.
Arrangements will be announced by Craig Funeral Home.

Webster Challacombe
Webster Hamilton Challacombe, 78, St. Augustine, died Nov. 25, 1997, at his home. He was born in Pittsfield, Mass., and he had resided in St. Augustine since 1980. He was a retired airline machinist.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Amesbury, Mass.
Survivors include his wife, Doral Kent; a son, Wesley D. Challacombe, Miami; and one stepdaughter, Lorraine Borin, Oregon.

John Mitchell
John Thomas Mitchell, 85, Hastings, died Nov. 25, 1997, at Flagler Hospital West. He was born in Bryant County, Ga., and he had resided in St. Johns County since 1959. He was a retired Merchant Marine, and he owned and operated his own seafood business, following retirement from the Merchant Marines. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Elkton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Carroll, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pellicer Creek Cemetery. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church, and friends may call at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Flowers are gratefully accepted, or those wishing may make a contribution, in his memory, to a favorite charity.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Mitchell, Hastings; three nephews and a niece.

Linda Shepard
Linda L. Shepard, 58, 9th St. North, died Nov. 24, 1997. She was born in Lebanon, Pa., and she was a desk clerk at Days Inn. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Tracy, Roseville, Mich., and Kelly, Deerfield Beach; two brothers, one sister and three grandchildren.
American Family Cremation Society is in charge.

Rachel Taylor
Rachel Esther Taylor, 60, of St. Augustine, died Nov. 25, 1997, at her home, She was a native and lifelong resident of St. Augustine.
Funeral services will be Monday at 7 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Alton Lister, First Apostolic Church, officiating. Friends may call at Craig Funeral Home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
She is survived by her husband, George Richard Taylor, St. Augustine; five daughters, Betty Jo Solano, Palatka, Robin Ann Osteen, Jacksonville, Mary Esther Roy, Rachel Lynn Edenfield and Beverly Carol Polk, all of St. Augustine; five sisters, Effie Allen, Palm Coast, Helen Taylor, Audrey Vaughn, Linda Carter and Kay Banks, all of St. Augustine; two brothers, Artie and John Simms, both of St. Augustine; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
