Hubert Hollins Settle
ALBANY - Hubert Hollins Settle, 84, of 1721 Beattie Road in Albany, died Sunday, October 6, 2002 at his residence.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. William D."Biff" Coker officiating.
A native of Inman, SC, Mr. Settle moved to Albany in 1961, where he was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Golden K Kiwanis Club, a Shriner, and was retired sales manager from US Steel Agri Chemicals. Mr. Settle was a 1941 graduate of Clemson University, and served in the United States Army Infantry during World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Love of North Wilkesboro, NC, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Sam Settle of Horseshoe, NC, David Settle and Ralph Settle of Inman, SC; two sisters, Mary Louise Raines of Inman, Betty Tomlinson of Spartanburg, SC; and number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Settle was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Steadman Settle, and a son, Holly Settle.
The family will receive friends following the service, and will be at the residence of Mrs. H.H. Settle, 2520 Whispering Pines Road, Albany, GA 31707.

Donald Howard Smith Sr.
ALBANY - The funeral service of Donald "Don" Howard Smith Sr., 55, of 5320 Florida Short Route, Dawson, who died Saturday, October 5, 2002, will be conducted today (Monday) at 6 p.m. at Liberty Parkway Church of God. Pastor Henry Ruthledge will officiate. Interment Mount Zion Methodist Church Cemetery, Medina, TN.
A native of Humboldt, TN, Mr. Smith lived in Terrell County for the past five years moving here from Dougherty County, where he had lived for 17 years. Mr. Smith was a landscaper and was a member of the Liberty Parkway Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Smith and a brother, Bobby Harrell Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Jo Addison Smith of Dawson; three sons, Donald Howard Smith Jr. and Paul Wayne Smith, both of Humboldt, and James Grant Creel III of Albany; two daughters, Melissa Smith Bowen of Humboldt, and Lana Dione Creel of Thomasville; a brother, Billy Dean Smith of Gadsden, TN; and seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers make contributions to the Liberty Parkway Church of God Building Fund, 1501 Scheley Ave., Albany, GA 31707.

Nellie Clara Calhoun
COLQUITT - Nellie Clara Calhoun, 87, of Colquitt, died Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Miller County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Colquitt First Baptist Church, with burial in Rawls Cemetery.
Born on February 10, 1915 in Miller County, Mrs. Calhoun was retired after 37 years as a social worker with the Department of Family and Children Services. She was a member of Colquitt First Baptist Church, where she was a member of Dorcas Sunday School Class, and she was also a charter member of the Zula B. Toole Baptist Women's Circle.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jo Ann Calhoun of Colquitt; three grandchildren, Kelly Tabb of Damascus, Cole Calhoun of Hiawassee, and Chris Calhoun of Douglas; and six great-grandchildren, Jeb Tabb, Cody Tabb, Troupe Tabb, Jordan Calhoun, Jackson Calhoun and Laura Calhoun.
Visitation will be held today (Monday), from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Billy Joe Carter
POULAN - Billy Joe Carter, 67, of Poulan, died Friday, October 4, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held today (Monday), 11 a.m. at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, with burial in Beulah Cemetery. Dr. Tom Jacobs will officiate.
Born on October 19, 1934, in Cook County, Mr. Carter was the son of the late Julius J. Carter and Alma Ruby Gandy Carter. He was a retired civil service worker employed with the Agrirama and a member of First Baptist Church of Sylvester.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Andi Carter of Savannah; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Gary Sanford of Lawrenceville and Brenda Reiche of Kansas City, KS; a sister, Dorothy Reddick of Adel; and four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mr. Carter is preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Sandra Elizabeth Ward
ASHBURN - Funeral services for Sandra Elizabeth Ward, 16, of 206 South Gordon St., Ashburn, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Ashburn First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Miss Ward died Saturday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital from injuries received in an auto accident on Friday.
Miss Ward was born September 22, 1986 in Albany, and had resided all of her life in Ashburn. She was a 10th grade student at Turner County High School and was a member of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents, Chris and Melody Ward of Ashburn; maternal grandmother, Sandra Coffey Harpe of Cordele; maternal grandfather, Jerald Rooks of Dublin; paternal grandmother, Judy M. Lacey of Ashburn; paternal great-great-grandmother, Beatrice Overby of Macon; and a large number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitations will be held today (Monday) from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

ALBANY - Pastor Earnest Braddy, 75, of 300 South Carroll Street died Saturday, October 5, 2002, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at House of God Saints in Christ in Albany with interment in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. Bishop A.F. Caldwell is the pastor and Bishop William Hollis will officiate.
Pastor Braddy was a native of Daytona Beach, Fla. He was the pastor of Faith Deliverance Church in Albany and was a member of Miracle Temple Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. He attended Montgomery County public schools in Uvalda.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Troupe-Braddy of Albany; two daughters, Sandra McClain of Atlanta and Nakeir Nobles of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Sarah Jones of Miami, Fla., Grace Turner of Vidalia and Mary H. Camon of Vidalia; one brother, Nathaniel Braddy of Uvalda; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The remains of Pastor Braddy will lie-in-state at the church Wednesday from noon until the funeral hour.

Verola Stripling Hall
ALBANY - Verola Stripling Hall, 93, of Albany, died Monday, October 7, 2002, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following an illness.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Story-Odum Cemetery in Worth County.
A native of Crisp County, she had lived in Albany since 1945. She was a member of East Albany Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert S. Hall; her parents, Charles Edward and Florrie Taylor Stripling; her sister, Charlie Mae James; and her brothers, Wilmer Stripling and Barney Stripling.
Survivors include two sisters, Irene Davis of Perry, and Joan Bass and her husband Crawford of Albany; four nieces, Linda Powell of Albany, Carlan Malone of Buford, Bonnie Brickey of Marietta, Iris Tedders of Perry; five nephews, Bruce Bass, Glenn Bass, Alan Bass, Steve Bass, all of Albany, and Edward Striping of Greensboro, GA.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. today.

Helen Taunton Hankinson
ALBANY - The funeral services of Helen Taunton Hankinson, 76, of 110 National Court, who died Sunday, October 6, 2002, will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Buford Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cordele, GA.
A native of Taylor County, GA, Mrs. Hankinson had resided in Atlanta until retirement from Roebuck Southern Territory Offices and a private tax consultant firm while in Atlanta. She was a member and past president of Peachtree Chapter of American Business Women's Association where she was honored as "Woman of the Year." She moved to Cordele in 1978 on beautiful Lake Blackshear. She volunteered at Crisp Regional Hospital for many years where she served as president of the Hospital Auxiliary and was honored as "Volunteer of the Year." She moved to Albany in 1993 where she was a member of Elk's Auxiliary of B.P.O. Elk's Lodge #713, where she served as president and was a member of the Past Presidents Club of the Elks Auxiliary. She was a member of A.A.R.P., Golden Key 55 Plus at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Golden Striders, Senior Friends at Palmyra Medical Centers, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Forever Young Club at Christ United Methodist Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Southwest Georgia Genealogical Society Inc., Burke County Georgia Genealogical Society, Taylor County Georgia Historical Society, Christ United Methodist Church and was a hostess for Mathews Funeral Home. She was the widow of J.C. "Hank" Hankinson and was preceded in death by her parents, John Franklin Taunton and Rena Rosebud Bryan Taunton and two brothers, Winston (Slick) Taunton and John Raymond Taunton.
Survivors include a sister, Edith T. Hobbs Barrer of Smyrna, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marie Elizabeth McDonald
ALBANY - Marie Elizabeth McDonald, 68, of Newton died Sunday, October 6, 2002, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hall & Hall Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Smith officiating. Interment will be at Floral Memory Gardens.
Mrs. McDonald was a native of Macon, Georgia, and had lived in Newton for the past 15 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Cliff Baptist Church in Camilla and a member of the Women's Sunday school class. She was well loved by family and friends and a was a devoted Christian.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Joe McDonald of Newton, Ga.; son, Dallas Smith and wife, Judy of Sylvester, Ga.; daughters, Terry Cawthon of Camilla, Ga., and Debbie Baggett and husband, Dennis of Albany, Ga.; brother, Richard O. Massey and wife, Dorothy of Lizella, Ga.; grandchildren, Casey Baggett, Yancey Baggett, Dallas Smith Jr., Nicole Smith, Teresa Cawthon, Jennifer Cawthon, Carey Cawthon and Cliff Cawthon; five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
