Evelyn L. Massey
Mrs. Evelyn Lucile Massey, 88, of Athens, formerly of Nicholson, died Thursday, March 8, 2001.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Massey was the daughter of the late Guy and Frellie McDonald and the widow of Leonard W. Massey. She was preceded in death by a son, Mac Haynie.
Mrs. Massey was retired as a supervisor from a clothing manufacturing company and was a member of Commerce First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Commerce First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hoyt Allen officiating. Burial was in Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville.
Survivors include grandchildren, Margaret and Mike Sikes and Mitch and Jenna Haynie, and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Commerce First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 755, Commerce, GA 30529.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Annie L. Carey
Mrs. Annie Lou Bennett Carey, 88, of Hull, died Monday, March 12, 2001.
Mrs. Carey was born March 10, 1913, in Madison County, a daughter of the late Julian Obediah and Ada Williams Bennett.
She was a seamstress for many years and was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School treasurer and secretary. Mrs. Carey was also a member of the Ladies Farm Bureau.
She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Evangelical Methodist Church with the Revs. Tim Peek and Ed Peek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Tim Carey, Bruce Carey, Nelson Carey, Nolan Carey, Curtis Carey and Scott Carey will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Carey is survived by her husband, Buford Gwinnett Carey, Hull; four sons, Norman Carey, Greensboro, Everett Carey, Danielsville, Dwight Carey, Hull, and Ronnie Carey, Watkinsville; one brother, Doyle Bennett, Santa Monica, Calif.; three sisters, Ethelyn Billingsley, College Park, Ellen Adams, Danielsville, and Idelle Short, Kannapolis, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The family is at the home.
Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clyde Fleming
Mrs. Clyde Clark Fleming, 87, of Winder, died Saturday, March 10, 2001.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Fleming was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Safonia Massey Clark. She was the wife of the late George V. Fleming.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Barrow Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Carlton Peters officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Fleming, Mooresville, N.C., and Douglas Fleming, Concord, N.C.; two sisters, Sybil Allen, Ila, and Cleo Scarboro, Union Point; one brother, Corzay Clark, Ila; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, N.C., was in charge of arrangements, with Smith Funeral Home, Winder, in charge of local arrangements.

Ned Rutherford
Ned Rutherford, 80, of Pine Lake, died Saturday, March 10, 2001.
A native of Hart County, Mr. Rutherford was a son of the late Henry Rutherford and Hettie Chastain.
He was a veteran of World War II and was a retired produce marketer. Mr. Rutherford was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, Union Point.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Bethesda Baptist Church with the Rev. Lem Clark officiating.
Survivors include two daughters, Nedra Legg, Comer, and Sharon Robertson, Pelzer, S.C.; one son, Wayne Rutherford, Union Point; two sisters, Myrtice May R. Lawson, Union Point, and Angile R. Taylor, Mount Juliet, Tenn.; one brother, Tom Rutherford, Union Point; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Callaway Funeral Home, Union Point, was in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy C. Barnett
Jimmy Chester Barnett, 62, of Nicholson, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Barnett was born November 2, 1938, a son of the late Chester A. "CA" and Onia Kesler Barnett. He was a retired businessman and was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the Antioch United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Wilma Barnett, Nicholson; one daughter, Wanda Barnett David, Nicholson; one brother, Tommy Barnett, Nicholson; one sister, Emma Baerne, Nicholson; and one grandson, Jim David, Nicholson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Georgia Diabetes Research Foundation, 1120 West Broad Ave., Suite A-1, Albany, GA 31707.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. CANTRELL
Homemaker
BALDWIN - Mrs. Blanche Wilson Cantrell, 85, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in White County on January 27, 1916, Mrs. Cantrell was a daughter of the late Will and Lillie Paralee Cannon Wilson.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Cantrell was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Claude Cantrell, and a daughter, Kita Cantrell.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Connie Berry and Austin Kelley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include four daughters, Darlene Demore, Macon, Juanelle Deitz and Regina Underwood, both of Clyde, N.C., and Rita Martin, Vienna W.Va.; four sons, Kenneth Cantrell, Charles Cantrell and Lanny Cantrell, all of Baldwin, and Rondald Cantrell, Cleveland; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and loving friends, Judy Simon and Jodi Madden.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. MCDONALD
Homemaker
COMMERCE - Mrs. Mildred McDonald, 76, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. McDonald was born in Georgia on September 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Clyde and Ida Black Westmoreland.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel McDonald, Maysville, Phil McDonald, Commerce, and Dennis McDonald, Homer; two daughters, Elaine Lee and Janie Potts, both of Commerce; one brother, Otis Westmoreland, Maysville; one sister, Dorothy Tatum, Commerce; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. EVANS
Retired logger
COMMERCE - D.T. Evans, 72, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Evans was born October 12, 1928, in Jackson County, a son of the late Traud and Mary Evans.
He was a retired logger.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Doug Duncan and Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Christian Church cemetery.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Vernelle Beck Evans, Commerce; four sons, James Evans and Leon Evans, both of Commerce, Troy Evans, Jack, Ala., and Frankie Evans; two daughters, Shirley David, Jefferson, and Janet Morgan, Commerce; one sister, Rachel Massey, Jefferson; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. SMITH
Father of countian
CORNELIA - Loyd Smith, 87, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was a son of the late John Henry and Emma Perry Smith, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Loudermilk Smith, a daughter, Linda Grace Smith, a brother, Hoyt Smith, and a sister, Grace Brock.
Mr. Smith was a former city commissioner, serving two terms for the City of Cornelia, and was retired as captain of the Cornelia Police Department, with 20 years of service. He was also retired from the Habersham County Sheriff's Department, with 23 years of service. Mr. Smith was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Level Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Rice and Austin Kelley officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Eric Shelton officiating at graveside.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Geneva Weaver Smith, Cornelia; five daughters, Deborah Pauline Koeller and Doris Blackburn, both of Cornelia, Betty Massey, Homer, Juanita Garrett, Riverdale, and Glenda Dotson, Dickinson, Ala.; one son, J.L. Smith, Cornelia; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery Fund, 178 Hazel Creek Road, Mount Airy, GA 30563.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. FAULKNER
Retired postmaster
LAWRENCEVILLE - Edgar P. Faulkner, 91, died Monday, March 5, 2001.
A native of Lula, Hall County, Mr. Faulkner currently resided in Lawrenceville, and previously in Tucker. He began his 42-year postal career in Lula delivering as a rural carrier by horse and buggy. Mr. Faulkner also held positions in postal transportation service, terminal station transfer office, clerk and retired as postmaster of Tucker in 1969.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church Tucker, where he taught the men's Bible Class for several years. Six members of his class became ministers. Mr. Faulkner has been a lay speaker in churches throughout Georgia and was active in civic affairs in Tucker. He served on several boards, including: the National Association of Postmasters, the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, the Advisory Committee of National Investors Life Insurance of Georgia, the Tucker Community Association, the Peach Bowl Association, the Lions Light House Foundation, and participated in fund-raising efforts for the Cancer Crusade, Heart Fund and United Way. Mr. Faulkner served in all local Lions Club offices, was District Governor of Lions International of Georgia 18D and was a 50-year member of the Mason and Royal Arch Chapter in Homer.
Mr. Faulkner was also a member of the National Advisory Committee on Aging in Washington, D.C., under former Presidents Reagan and Bush, and recently was reappointed by President George W. Bush.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, in the Gwinnett Chapel of Wages & Sons Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, with the Rev. Mark Davis, of Yellow River Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Banks County Memorial Gardens, Homer.
Survivors include his bride of 65 years, the former Mary Ruth Mize, Homer, Banks County; daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Brinson (Nan), Lawrenceville, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Montrose (Donna), Lithia Springs, and Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Childs (Rebecca), Roswell; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. His sister, Mrs. Carole Chapman, Baldwin, is the last surviving sibling.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, GA 30096.
