Maude Walls Brown

Maude Walls Brown, 94, of Clayton, Died Friday, Oct 17, 2003, at Britthaven of Franklin NC.

She was born July 28, 1908 in Macon, Ga. to Homer and Ora Walls of Macon.

She was retired from Cherokee Brick & Tile Co. of Macon, Where she was Office Manager & Treasurer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Willis Brown, Sr.

Survivors include: Her son, Maynard W. Brown, Jr., Granddaughters, Michele Brown Birchman of Acworth, Ga. and Donna Raybon of Waynesville, NC., five great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 23rd at 1:00 P.M. at the Dillard Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Volk and Rev. Steve Waldorf Officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dillard United Methodist Church, 7 Betty White Cloud Street., Dillard, GA., 30537 or donor’s favorite charity.

ELZIE EVALINE ALVERSON
February 3, 1926 - May 25, 2010

Mrs. Elzie Evaline Alverson, age 84, of Rome, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Alverson was born in Guntersville, AL on February 3, 1926, the daughter of the late Fred Clifford Rhodes and Lizzie Lee Hardin. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and attended The Church at Rome. Mrs. Alverson loved to read, sew, and make floral arrangements. In addition to her parents Mrs. Alverson was preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy Rhodes and Dowdy Collins.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Alverson to whom she was married on April 20, 1956; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Liz Allred of Leesburg, AL; a daughter, Elzie Hodge of Rome; grandchildren, Charles and Marie Jarrett, Elisabeth Massey, Jenny Roden, Rocky and Tammy Kinsey, Roe Hodge, Jr., Starla Price, Amanda and Lee Roden, James “Bill” Allred, Denise Bowman, Toni and Larry Brewer, and Kelly and Kevin Wood; twenty one great-grandchildren; twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Billy and Donna Hardin of Douglasville, GA, Edwin Collins of TX, and Frank Collins of Gadsden, AL; and three sisters, Jessie Little of Gadsden, AL, Kate Moore, and Nellie Thomas.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, May 27, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Baldwin, Rev. George Pike, and Bishop Freddy Baldwin officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel on Thursday by 1:30 P.M.: Charles Jarrett, Lee Roden, Brian Gentle, Wayne Dotson, Scott Boatner, and Ryan Baldwin.

The Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire Jennings & Miller Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Elzie Evaline Alverson.

Bobby C. McElwee
(July 13, 1936 - May 15, 2011)

U.S. Veteran
Mr. Bobby C. McElwee, age 74 of Cedartown, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011. He was born on July 13, 1936 in Cedartown, Georgia. He was the son of the late Mr. John Elmer McElwee and Mrs. Grace Landers McElwee.

Bobby was a retired Forest Ranger from the Georgia Forestry Commission and a veteran of the United States Navy.

Mr. McElwee is survived by his sons & daughter-in-laws, Bobby & Beth McElwee, Scott & Dianna McElwee; grandchildren, Katie McElwee, Madison McElwee, and April Ruark.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jackie Lott McElwee; and brother, Howard Van McElwee.

A graveside for Bobby C. McElwee will be conducted on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Eleven o’clock in the morning at Greenwood cemetery with Lynn Gammage officiating. iIntermentwill follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday May 16, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joey Sorrells, Rob McElwee, Greg McElwee, Jeremy Ruark, Bobby McElwee, and Scott McElwee.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas Texas, 75265-0309.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Mr. Bobby C. McElwee.

Ross Cloer

Ross Alexander Cloer age 79 of Mountain City Georgia passed away September 2, 2003 at Atlanta medical center.

Ross was born on October 10, 1923 in Towns County where he spent most his child hood, the son of the late Walter J. Cloer and Mary Elizabeth Coker Cloer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Murphy, Ross was a WW II Veteran who served his country proudly in the Army Air Corp, and was a pharmacist for 50 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 7339 and was a past Commander of that post.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother J.D. Cloer.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Cloer of the home; one son Larry Cloer of Franklin NC.; two step sons Danny Gillespie and Ronnie Gillespie both of Clayton GA; one daughter Vicki Moses of Franklin NC.; one step Daughter Kathie Bayne of Presque Isle Maine; Thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends Thursday September 4, 2003 at Beck Funeral Home from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday September 5, 2003 in the Chapel of Beck Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woodlawn cemetery in Franklin NC where the VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 will be conducting full military rites.

The family has made the option of memorial donations to the Gideon Memorial Bible Chairman C/O Rabun County Gideons P.O. Box 241 Clayton, GA 30525.

Austin Isaiah Alley Howell

Austin Isaiah Alley Howell, age 6 of Clayton passed away August 31, 2003.

Isaiah Attend Grace Bible Church and Tom’s Creek Baptist Church and was a student at South Rabun Elementary School.

His was preceded in death by his grandfather David Alley and three great grandparents Ealon Howell, and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Guest.

He is survived by his mother Katie Lucinda Alley his father Adrian David Howell; grandparents Donald and Elaine Howell of Toccoa, Wilda Atkins of Clayton; Great grand parents Jack and Shannon Alley of Tiger, Peggie McCracken and Willard Taylor of Clayton; Mary Howell of Warner Robins GA.

The family will receive friends Wednesday September 3rd, from 7:00 until 9:00 Pm at Beck Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 Pm Thursday September 4th in the chapel of Beck Funeral Home.

The family has made the option of flowers or donations to the Rabun County play ground fund C/O Community partnership of Rabun County P.O. Box 2172 Clayton GA, 30525 in Memory of Isaiah.

James C. Hale

James C. Hale age 73 of Clayton GA passed away July 4, 2003 at Atlanta Medical Center.

James was born on December 27, 1927 in Tampa Fl the son of the late Wily O. Hale and Mary Alva Bowman Anderson. He was a painter by trade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Gary Steven Hale, one brother Wily Hale, one sister Sara Hale Metts.

He is survived by his wife Marian Jane Brooks Hale of the home; one son Mike Hale of Tampa FL.; two daughters Debra Brown of Mountain City GA, Sharon Alberdean of Clear water FL.; eleven Grandchildren, sixteen Great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

There will be a memorial service July 11 6:30 P.M. at University EPC Church Carson Road Hwy 41 Land O Lakes Florida.

The family asks that Memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society Rabun County Relay for life fund in memory of Mr. Hale in Lieu of flowers.

Ronald David Coleman

Ronald David Coleman, age 63 of Clayton GA. passed away July 28, 2003, at his residence after extended illness.

Mr. Coleman was born in Rabun County GA. on Dec. 8, 1939. He was a manager in Textile Industry and loved his work. He enjoyed gardening and being with Grand children. After his heart surgery he became a dedicated walker, walking 1900 days in a row.

He is the son Verner Coleman and Connie E. Coleman White. He was preceded in death by his Father.

He is survived by his wife LaVerne Grist Coleman of the home, and his Mother Connie E Coleman White. One son Jamey Coleman of Marietta GA. and one Daughter Tracie Dalton of Cornelia GA. One brother Rodney Coleman of Tiger GA. and one sister Connie Vernelle Strickland of Clarksville GA., and 5 grandchildren Alexandria, Stormey, Christian Coleman, and Drew and Cole Dalton.

The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home Tuesday July 29, 2003, from 7:00 PM till 9:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be held at Head of Tennessee Baptist Church in Dillard GA. Wednesday July 30, 2003, at 1:00 PM. With Rev Doug Porter officiating, burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family asks in lieu flowers that donations be made to National Multiple Selerosis Societ, Georgia Chapter, 455 Abernathy Rd. N.E., Atlanta, GA.30328 or American Cancer Society, 2200 Lake Blvd. Atlanta, GA. 30319.

Euel Ayers
October 23, 1918 - March 11, 2010
Mr. Euel Ayers, age 91, of Rome, GA passed away early Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Ayers was born in Buchanan, GA on October 23, 1918 to the late Samuel and Mary Coleman Ayers. Euel served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in Italy. After his time in the Army, he moved with his family to Huntsville, AL, where they would spend the next 30 years. The Ayers’ were longtime members of First Baptist Church in Huntsville. While in Huntsville, Mr. Ayers had the unique opportunity to serve as an engineer at Redstone Arsenal. During his career there he was most proud of his part in the development of the Redstone and Pershing missile systems. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing golf and traveling with his wife in their motor home. In 1988 Mr. Ayers and his wife moved back to Rome to be closer to their daughter’s family and became members of the North Broad Baptist Church. He devoted the rest of his life to his family and to the development of a 5 acre retreat area with a lake, woods, creek, waterfall and a cabin. In addition to his parents Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by a son, Lesley Steven Ayers, February 8, 1968; two brothers, Grover Ayers and Hubert Ayers; four sisters, Ruby Ayers, Myrtle Dennan, Lois Ayers and Betty Rice.

Survivors include his wife of seventy one years, Gladys Silvers Ayers of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Stephen McKenzie of Rome; and two grandchildren, Chad McKenzie of Rome; and Christy McKenzie of Birmingham, AL and a sister, Inez Clark of Rome, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home. iIntermentand graveside services will follow Sunday at 2:00 P.M. CST in the Maple Hill cemetery in Huntsville, AL. with John Dees officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour in the Heritage Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to North Broad Baptist Church, 1309 North Broad Street, Rome, GA. 30161 for the church mission trip to Chile this summer.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers and Hospice workers who have been such a blessing to all of us

Lewis Mason

Lewis Eugene Mason, 61 of Clayton passed away June 2, 2003 at Rabun County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Mason was born April 4, 1942 in Macon County, North Carolina the son of late Thurman Stover Mason and Ruby Jeanette Miller Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons Tony Mason, David Mason; five brothers Chester Mason, Carlton Mason, Kenneth Mason, Ricky Allen Mason, Jerry Lee Mason; one sister Christine Mason.

As a boy he grew up in Scaly Mountain North Carolina and attended Scaly Mountain Church of God. He was a supervisor at Rabun Apparel Textile Plant in Rabun Gap for many years.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Mason of the home; and one daughter Teresa Mason Hoglen of Dillard GA.; Two step daughters Sonya Neely and Sheila Woodall of Clayton; One step son Les Neely of Tiger GA. One brother Larry Mason of Clayton, and four sisters Jewel Holt of Mountain City GA., Darlene Robinson Rabun Gap GA., Linda Barwick and Janice Matheson both of Piedmont SC.; three grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends Tuesday June 3, 2003 from 6:00 Pm until 9:00 PM at Beck Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday June 4, 2003 at Beck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Cannon and Rev. Tommy Lamb. Burial will follow in the Rabun Memorial Cemetery.
