Mary ‘Sue’ Ann Wright Wallace
Services for Mary “Sue” Ann Wright Wallace of Atlanta were held at noon Saturday, Jan. 29 at Evening Light Church of God with interment in the Mason Cemetery in Glenwood.
The Rev. Elijah Clark officiated.
Wallace, 62, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Thomas David and Pearl Troup Wright and was the widow of Willie Wallace.
She was a native of Wheeler County and was retired.
Survivors include her son, Fredrick A. Wright; sisters, Willie Mae Adams of Scotland, Madie McClendon of Atlanta and Annie Pearl Allen of MCRae; brothers, Henry T. Wright Sr. of Alamo and Tommie Lee Wright of McRae.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Marva Joe Dupree
Services for Marva Joe Dupree of Eastman were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Sandhill Baptist Church of Scotland with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
The Rev. Noah Robinson officiated.
Dupree, 56, died Friday, March 11, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Louise Barnes and Joe Porter and was engaged to Cammy Frett of Bronx, N.Y.
She was a native of Telfair County and was a nursing assistant of Middle Georgia Nursing Home.
In addition to her fiance, survivors include her daughter, Kemettia Louise Robinson; sister, Willie Joyce Pacheco of Newark N.J.; and three grandchildren.
A.L. Spaulding Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Maude Hulett
Services for Annie Maude Hulett of Lumber City were held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at Mt. Galilee Baptist Church with interment in the Blockhouse Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Royce Hulett officiated.
Hulett, 84, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Henry Judd Thompson and Mary Francis Kirkley of Dodge County and was the widow of Grady F. Hulett.
She was a member of Mt. Galilee Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue Aldridge of Alamo; son, Royce Hulett of Hazlehurst; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Cassie Yawn Johstono
Services for Cassie Yawn Johstono of Hernando, Fla., were held at noon Monday, March 14 at the First United Methodist Church of Hernando with interment in the Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala, Fla.
The Rev. Brian Baggs officiated.
Johstono, 88, died Thursday, March 10, 2005. She was the daughter of Levie Tilldon Yawn Sr. and Minnie Lou Yawn and was the widow of Hervert Ivey Johstono Sr.
She was a native of Telfair County, graduate of Milan High School and Macon Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and headed the Tuberculosis Eradication Program for Marion County. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hernando. Her hobbies included reading, fishing, and flower gardening.
Survivors include her son, Herbert Ivey Johstono Jr. (Judy) of Hernando, Fla.; daughter, Mary Claire (Roger) Fleener of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Christine Yawn Brown of McRae, four grandchildren, Jason and Kevin Fleener of Kansas City, Mo. and Sherry Augustine of Slidell, La. and Karen (Shane) Faust of New Orleans; and a host of other relatives in Telfair County.
Hooper Funeral Homes of Inverness, Fla. was in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Ward Powell
Services for Jessie Ward Powell of Eastman were held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 21 in Rhine Baptist Church with interment in Fair Haven Cemetery.
The Rev. Randy Conley and Mr. Bobby Ryals officiated.
Powell, 81, died Friday, March 18, 2005. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Ward and Annie McDuffie Ward, and widow of O.D. “Derrell” Powell.
She was a native of Telfair County, member of Rhine Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She was retired from the Department of Agriculture ASCS office and the Dodge County School System.
Survivors include her daughters, Vickie Powell Fordham of Eastman, Jane Spires Hilliard and Derrie Powell Grinstead, both of Hawkinsville; son, Preston Spires of Macon; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.

Edwin ‘Leroy’ ‘Papa’ Varnadoe
Services for Edwin “Leroy” “Papa” Varnadoe were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 20 at the Helena Baptist Church with interment in the Riverside Cemetery in Lumber City.
The Rev. Buddy Waldron and the Rev. Mike Pollard officiated.
Varnadoe, 75, died Friday, March 18, 2005. He was the son of the late Hugh and Louise Varnadoe and was married to Betty Brewer Varnadoe of Helena. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Varnadoe.
He was a retired Naval Chief Petty Officer, member of Helena Baptist Church, former Sunday school director, Brotherhood Chairman (GRUNT). He retired from the US Navy after serving 20 years active, 10 years reserve. He also retired from Electrolux Outdoor Products. He was a devoted husband, father, and a superb papa.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Debbie Outlaw and Darice Varnadoe of Lumber City, Larry Durden of Vicksburg, Miss., Debbie Garrett and Randy Durden, both of Fitzgerald; brothers, Alvin Varnadoe of Eastman, Comer Varnadoe of Lumber City, Charlie Mack Varnadoe of Warner Robins; sister, Jean Davis of Roseville, Calif.; grandchildren, Joy Hammonds of Cochran, Lindsey Outlaw of Lumber City, Christy Garrett, Courtney Garrett, Destiny Durden, Brandon Durden, all of Fitzgerald, Meri Ivey, Lee Bunting, both of Lumber City, Jessica Varnadoe, Nikole Johnson, Heather Varnadoe, Daniel Varnadoe of Eastman; great-grandchildren, Brittany Hammonds, Autumn Hammonds, Bradley Ivey, Mackenzee Ivey, Nickolas Johnson, George Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.

Trudie Hathaway White
Services for Trudie Hathaway White of Alamo were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at Springhill Baptist Church with interment in the Springhill Cemetery.
The Rev. Larry Williams and the Rev. John M. Clements officiated.
White, 93, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005. She was the daughter of the late J.W. and Minnie Snyder Hathaway and the widow of James Eschol White.
She was a homemaker and member of Springhill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, J. Robert and Christine White and Roy L. and Carolyn White, all of Alamo; brother, Virgil Hathaway of North Augusta, S.C.; sister, Ivyln Denham of Martinez; grandchildren, Anthony L. White, Heather Walters and Jason White, all of Alamo, and Dawn Bridges of Hazlehurst; great-grandchildren Laura Leigh White, Drew Bridges, Dylan Bridges and Riley Walters.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae was in charge of arrangements.

William ‘Bill’ Strom
Services for William “Bill” Strom of Memphis, Tenn. were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at Memorial Park North Chapel with interment in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.
The Rev. Julian Strom and the Rev. Russ Willard officiated.
Strom, 64, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005. He was the son of the late G.W. and Mary Strom of Milan and was married to Gayle Strom.
He was born and raised in Milan but lived in Memphis, Tenn. the past 40 years. He was a musician and keyboardist for Jerry Lee Lewis and was an employee of Custom Projects.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Kim O’Hagan and Sheila Phillips, both of Memphis, Tenn.; son, Dylan O’Hagan of Southaven; sister, Yvonne Nunnold of Helena; brothers, Rudolph Strom of Douglas, Elisha Strom of Blackshear, and the Rev. Julian Strom of McRae.
Memorial Park North Chapel of Memphis, Tenn. was in charge of arrangements.

Marion Wilkerson Luckey Sr.
Memorial services for Marion Wilkerson Luckey Sr. of Harlem were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the Harlem United Methodist Church.
The Reverend Roger Vest officiated.
Luckey Sr., 87, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at his residence. He was the son of the late Amos Daniel Luckey and Berta Marie Wilkerson Luckey and was married to Marjorie Mann Luckey for 65 years.
He was a graduate of the University of Georgia class of 1938 where he received a B.A. degree in commerce with a major in Marketing. He was in the U.S. Army as a reserve Second Lt. and served five years on active duty. He was honorably discharged as Major in 1945.
He was past President of National Pecan Shellers, Past President of Harlem Recreation Association Center, Past Chairman of Administrative Board Harlem United Methodist Church, and was a teacher of W. E. Hatcher Sunday School Class. He was a member of Augusta Country Club and the Augusta Golf Association.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Dr. Tom Mann Luckey, of Decatur, Marion Wilkerson Luckey Jr., and Catherine Weir Luckey, both of Augusta, Dr. Marjorie Marie Bender and Dr. Sidney Bender both of New York City and Janet Jane Luckey Short and Jack Malcolm Short both of Jasper, Ga.; nine grandsons, and five great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made to the Harlem United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 39, Harlem, Georgia 30814, or a charity of your choice.
Starling Funeral Home of Harlem was in charge of arrangements.
