Dr. Raymond Scott

Dr. Raymond L. Scott of Fayetteville, Georgia. Dr. Scott was bornDecember 15, 1927 (celebrated each April 15) in Collingdale, Pennsylvania and relocated to his heavenly home on November 4, 2007. Dr. Scott received Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord in 1953. He served his Lord faithfully for over 54 years in Christ honoring churches in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. This is, therefore, a joyful time to honor a life so unselfishly and fully lived in service to his Lord and others. He humbly followed the path of his Lord and now takes his place in Heaven among Christ’s faithful disciples of all the ages.

Dr. Scott’s theological education included an M. Div. degree and a M.A. in church history, both from Wheaton Graduate School of Theology, plus a Th.D in theology from Grace Theological Seminary. His scientific training included a B.A. degree in pre-medicine and organic chemistry from Temple University, an M.S. in organic chemistry from Drexel University, and doctoral studies in biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.

Prior to entering the Christian ministry, Dr. Scott was employed for sixteen years in medical and pharmaceutical research. He held positions with Merck, Sharp and Dohme Laboratories as a research scientist for two years, with Wyeth Laboratories both as a research laboratory supervisor for six years and as assistant director of their Science Information Department for one year, and with Norwich-Eaton Laboratories as director of their Scientific Information Division for seven years.

Prior to relocating to Fayetteville area in 2005, Dr. Scott served the Lord Jesus Christ as Pastor Emeritus and Senior Bible Teacher of Christ Community Church (SBC) in Huntersville, North Carolina where, from October 1998 until 2002 he served as Executive Pastor. Prior to that he was Professor of Bible and Science at Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina where for twenty-six years, he taught a wide variety of Bible, science, theology and church history courses. Dr. Scott authored a unique book describing the actual appearances of Christ in Old Testament times, entitled The Hiding God, published first by Master’s Press and later by Baker Book House (this book is currently out of print).

Dr. Scott is survived by his loving wife Anne and three living sons: Raymond Jr., chief executive officer of one of Florida’s leading architectural firms in the Orlando area, his wife Kitty, and his three children, Courtney, Rachel, and Zachary, and one granddaughter Mia; Stuart who is professor of biblical counseling at Southern Baptist Seminary and formerly professor at Master’s College and Seminary in the Los Angeles area, his wife Zondra and their two children, Christa and Marc; and Thomas who is a physician with an obstetrics and gynecological practice in Blairsville, Georgia and his three children, Tommy, Kelsey and Jordan. A fourth son, Richard, is presently with the Lord.

Dr. Scott was beloved by countless thousands whose lives were touched by his faithful teaching of God’s Word and his warm humor. So many of his students, both from Columbia International University and from churches that he pastored were inspired by his scholarly teaching and wise counsel. Many church members and friends have also had their lives blessed by his devoted and tender care. He always has a warm smile for everyone and gave strength and encouragement to those in need as he walked among them, leading the way through his own vale of sorrows. Even though he struggled through three heart attacks, a successful battle with lung cancer, and finally a losing battle with congestive heart failure, Dr. Scott’s spirit remained strong. He was constantly encouraged and supported by his loving and faithful wife, Anne, whom he adored and who was always at his side. He continued to teach God’s Word faithfully and to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ at every opportunity. Now he enjoys the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who remain faithful to Him. His godly life was his best and final sermon.

A service of thanksgiving to commemorate his life and celebrate his spirit that was committed to the Lord Jesus will be held at Woolsey Baptist Church, where he was an active member, located at 115 Hampton Road, Fayetteville, Georgia at 11 A.M. Tuesday, November 6, 2007. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. In place of flowers, please direct memorials to Woolsey Baptist Church.
