Holger Sparwath
Holger Sparwath, age 77 of Big Canoe, passed early Saturday
morning, March 31, 2001.
He was born in North Plainfield, N.J. He was a veteran of the
Marine Corps having served with the 3rd Division in WW II; he was in the
D-Day invasion of Guam and saw action on Guadalcanal and Saipan. He
graduated from Rider College in New Jersey. Mr. Sparwath retired from
American Express after 25 years and had also retired from Northside
Hospital after 15 years of service. He was a member of the Holy Family
Episcopal Church in Jasper.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Mary Eileen Sparwath, Big
Canoe; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Ariana Sparwath, Alpharetta,
Kevin and Heather Sparwath, Murrayville, and Paul and Meg Sparwath,
Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and James DiFiore, Canton; sister,
Ellinor Ramey, Las Vegas, Nevada. Seven grandchildren also survive.
A celebration of life and the Holy Eucharist was held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, April 3 from Big Canoe Chapel with the Ven. Dr. Jerry Zeller
officiating. The remains lay in state from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral
hour. Committal services were held at 2:30 p.m. from Arlington Cemetery in
Atlanta with Paul, Daniel and Mathew Neston, Rusty Roth, Jim Stevens and
Danny Morganelli serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers those who wish
may make contributions to the Holy Family Episcopal Church, 202 Griffith
Rd., Jasper, Ga. 30143.
Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hubert Fountain
Hubert Fountain, age 88 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, April 5,
2001 at Grandview Health Care Center in Jasper.
Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Friday, April 6 at 2 p.m. from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Clay Fountain and Carl Owenby
officiating. Interment followed in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery
with William and Tony Rider, Wilburn, Danny, Travis and Bobby Childers
serving as pallbearers.

Danny Hammontree
Mr. Danny Hammontree, age 48 of Jasper, passed away April 5, 2001
at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist
Church and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity of West Georgia College.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Scott Hammontree, Jasper;
daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Hammontree Duncan and Shane Duncan,
Jasper; parents, Donald and Helon Hammontree, Jasper; sister and
brother-in-law, Kathy and Roger Weldy, Jasper; niece, Mandy Roberts,
Jasper. Several aunts and uncles also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Refuge Baptist
Church with the Revs. Edwin Weaver and Charles Hammontree officiating.
Singing was by Patsy Daniels and Helen Pharr. Interment followed in the
church cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Rodney Dean,
Roger Weldy, Joe Gooch, David Ray, David Chadwick, Joe Cagle, Ronald Hales
and Harold Hammontree. Billy Steed served as an honorary pallbearer.
Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

E.J. Moss
Mr. E.J. Moss, age 89 of Jasper, passed away April 4, 2001 at
Northside Hospital-Cherokee. Mr. Moss was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist
Church and a veteran of WW II.
He is survived by his sons, Guy Moss, Talking Rock, James Moss,
Dallas, Paul Moss, Waleska, and Charles Moss, Winder; daughters, Ruth Poole
and Minnie Raynes, both of Jasper; sister, Willie Faye Bennett, Jasper.
Twenty-three grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Jerusalem
Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Childers and Roy Blackwell officiating.
Singing was by Patsy Daniels and Helen Pharr. Interment followed in the
church cemetery with the grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ralph Buchanan
Mr. Ralph Buchanan, age 86 of Jasper and formerly of Marble Hill,
Passed away Friday afternoon, April 6, 2001 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital
in Marietta.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Gene
Taylor, Jasper; sister, Bernice Wigington, Marble Hill; grandchildren,
Stephanie Poss, Jennifer and Jon Haiko and Brittney Taylor; and one
great-grandchild, Dustin Poss.
The funeral service was held Monday, April 9 from Corinth Baptist
Church with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. The remains lay in
state from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment followed in Sunrise
Memorial Gardens with Mark Duncan, John Poss, Donnie Holmes, Jerry Ray,
Billy Bagwell, James Buchanan and James Wingo serving as pallbearers.
Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Stephanie Baggett
Miss Stephanie Baggett, age 20 of Mableton, passed away Monday,
March 20, 2001 at Kennestone Hospital from injuries sustained in an
accident.
Miss Baggett was a member of the Revival Baptist Church and active
with the youth of the Welcome Grove Baptist Church. She would have
graduated from the Chattahoochee Technical College in June. She was
preceded in death by her grandfather, Rev. James Max Henson Sr. in 1999.
Survivors include her parents, Clarence and Linda Baggett of
Mableton; fianceŽ, Daniel Lawrence of Marietta; sister and brother-in-law,
Vickie and Bruce Fossett of Dallas; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and
Kim Baggett of Jasper; grandparents, J.D. and Lucille Baggett, Adairsville,
and Evelyn Henson of Mableton. Nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins
also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29 from the
Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel in Austell with the Revs. Wesley
Fambrough and Brent Tatum officiating. Pallbearers were: James Max (Terry)
Henson III, Ryan and John Henson, Bryan Lawrence, Dewayne Howell, Darrell
Kennedy, Matt Worthington and Travis Causey. Interment followed in Powder
Springs Memorial Gardens.

George Gibson
George W. Gibson, age 85 of the Hill City Community, passed away
Saturday evening, March 31, 2001 at North Fulton Regional Hospital in
Roswell.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Gibson, Hill City; daughters,
Virginia Jones and Sharon Godfrey, both of Hill City; brother, Junior
Gibson, Fairmount; grandchildren, Greg and Elsie Jones, Angie and Matt
Weaver and Chris Godfrey.
The funeral service was held Monday, April 2 at 2 p.m. from
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Cantrell and Edwin
Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Phil
Mullinax, Robert Jones, Michael, David, Jerry and Andy Gibson serving as
pallbearers.
Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Callie Boyd
Mrs. Callie B. Boyd, age 91 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, March
27, 2001 at Mountainside Medical Center.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Jim Boyd and John
and Kathy Boyd, all of Jasper; one sister-in-law, Fern Burgess, Jasper;
grandchildren, Mitchell Boyd, Kimbal and Rachel Jones and Brandy Mann;
seven great-grandchildren, Deanne and Kellie Boyd, Travis and Morgan Jones,
Crystal Harvill, Paul and Jessica Banks. Several nieces and nephews also
survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29 from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Cantrell and Clyde Brock
officiating. Interment followed in Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery. The
following served as pallbearers: Ronnie, Ralph and Harold Burgess, Mike
Wofford, Danny Banks and Jeptha Greer. The family did accept flowers or you
may make donations to Burnt Mountain Center.

Nancy Roper
Nancy Bruce Roper, age 54 of Jasper, passed early Friday morning,
March 30, 2001 at her residence.
Survivors are her husband, Butch Roper, Jasper; daughter and
son-in-law, Denise and Mark Mulkey, Jasper; brothers, Coleman Bruce,
Jasper, and Billy Jack Bruce, Dalton; sisters, Peggy Lowe, Tate, Georgia
Stansel, Canton, and Colleen Roberts, Jasper.
The funeral service was held Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m. from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Corey Rich officiating.
Interment followed in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Jackie and Bradley
Bruce, Jeff Stansel, Greg Lowe, Dan Johnson and Tommy Fowler serving as
pallbearers.

Winona Harris
Mrs. Winona Harris, age 79 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, April 1,
2001 at Grandview Health Care Center in Jasper.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Will
Hayes Pickett Jr., Jasper; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Harris, Marietta; one
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, J.W. and Lonita Harris of Ranger; two
sisters, Jenevyln Wells, Chatsworth, and Jean Cole, Decatur; three
grandchildren, Cris Harris, Marietta, Will Pickett III and Greg Pickett,
both of Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 from the
Jasper United Methodist Church with the Rev. Herb Flanders officiating.
Interment followed in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The following served as
pallbearers: Bill Barrett, Jeff Pickett, Gary Reece, William Dilbeck, Jack
Dunn, Ernie Cole and Ben Reece. Honorary pallbearers were: Mark Whitfield,
Lee Dunn, M.T. McMurrian, Charles Collins and G.H. Perrow. The family
request in lieu of flowers make donations to Jasper United Methodist Church
Building Fund or Jasper First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Carney
Mr. James Alton Carney, age 80 of Ball Ground, passed away on
Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include his sister, Annie C. Smith of Ball Ground and
several cousins.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27 from the Old
Damascus Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Burgess officiating. Burial
followed in the church cemetery.
Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William Price
William Russell Price, age 69 of Fairmount, passed away Thursday,
July 26, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Price was born Nov. 7, 1931 in Sylvania, Ga. to the late
William E. and Eva Taylor Price. He was a member of the Salacoa Kiwanis
Club, the Calhoun Community Chorus, the CHVA Antique Car Club, was a
national officer and member of the Buick Club and a Scoutmaster for over 30
years. Mr. Price was a member of the Fairmount First Baptist Church where
he taught the Men's Sunday School Class and sung in the choir. He retired
after 30 years of service from the Core of Engineers as a hydro-electronic
operator.
He was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his wife,
Gail Price of Fairmount; daughter, Tracy Glass of Fairmount; sons and
daughters-in-law, Wesley and Cynthia Price of Acworth and Alan and Cindy
Price of Fairmount; mother and step-father, Eva and Joe Davis of Abbeville,
S.C.; brother, James Price of Abbeville. Seven grandchildren, one
great-grandson, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Fairmount
First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Baggett officiating. Music was
arranged by Voices of Lee. Pallbearers were Dwight Henderson, Winfred
McDaniel, Harvey Woods, R.L. Mathis, Ray Tapp, Paul and Andrew Fazzino and
Bruce Kyle. Honorary pallbearers were the Men's Sunday School Class of
Fairmount First Baptist Church. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m.
Sunday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Calhoun Falls, S.C. with the Rev.
Jerry Dalton officiating.
Taylor Funeral Home, Fairmount Chapel, was in charge of the
arrangements.

Lucille Goodwin
Mrs. Lucille Bruce Goodwin, age 84 of Cumming, passed away Friday
evening, July 27, 2001.
Mrs. Goodwin was a native of and lifelong resident of Forsyth
County and a member of Four Mile Baptist Church in Pickens County. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Mark Goodwin and five grandchildren.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Essie
Goodwin, Ball Ground, Billy Goodwin of Sugar Hill and James Goodwin of
Suches; daughters and sons-in-law, Joann and Donnie Silvers, Gainesville,
Jean and Bill Smith, Pooler, Ga., Hazel and Lee (Boody) Wehunt of Ball
Ground, Mae and Ricky Lingerfelt, Dyan and Ronald Allen, Pam and Cliff
Smith, Mary Alice Goodwin, Deana Lingerfelt and Darlene Edwards, all of
Cumming, and Josie and Melvin King of Flowery Branch; step-daughter, Evelyn
Hendrix, Cartersville; sisters, Alene Day, Cedartown, and Mamie Bearden,
Cumming. Twenty-six grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. from Four Mile
Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Boling, Steve Chadwick and Bryan
Goodwin officiating.
Ingram Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Joan Pistorio
Mrs. Joan M. Pistorio, age 67 of Big Canoe, passed away Monday,
July 23, 2001 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Pistorio, Big Canoe; two
sons, Mark Pistorio, San Antonio, Tx., and Tyge Pistorio, Knoxville, Tn.;
one daughter, Jamie Weems, Kennesaw; and five grandchildren, Alexa, Sean,
Rachel, Tyler and Eizah Pistorio.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 26 from the
Big Canoe Chapel with the Rev. Jim Allen officiating. The family request in
lieu of flowers, make donations to Big Canoe Chapel in her memory.
Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
