Sallie Parker
Mrs. Sallie M. Parker, age 97 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Betty Quinton, Jasper; grandchildren, Dale and Lisa Quinton, Kim Quinton and Craig Quinton, all of Jasper; great-grandchildren, Chassidy Chumley, Candace Burden and Cale Quinton, all of Jasper, Kirk Quinton and Brock Quinton, both of Talking Rock; and one great-great-grandchild, Quinton Chumley. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Quinton, who was killed in an auto accident, and Elmer Parker.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. from the Talking Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Dean Pugh, David Mitchell and Chris White officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Cale, Jim and Kirk Quinton, Jackie Chumley, Billy Burden and Jack Godfrey. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Beda Fowler
Mrs. Beda (Bee) Elizabeth Fowler, age 78 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at the home of a daughter in Talking Rock, Ga. following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Fowler was born in Elmhurst, Il. on Oct. 10, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Beda Josephine Smith. She had been a resident of Calhoun for over 39 years and prior to retirement was employed by B.J.'s Restaurant. She attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper and, in addition to her parents, was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Popalah.
Survivors include her son, Jim Fowler of Calhoun; daughters and sons-in-law, Beda L. and Ronald Ryan of Calhoun, Donna and Allen Evans, Talking Rock, Betty Jo and Steve Carvat and Gail Mae Ellenburg, all of Calhoun; and grandchildren, Jamie Starkey, Joe Fowler, Josephine, JerriLynn and Jessica Ryan, Corey, Ryan and Taylor Evans, Crystal and Amber Shannon. Five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Reeves and Dr. Ben Langley officiating. Interment followed in the Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Bobby and Jason Seritt, Chris Honeycutt, Joe Augustyn, James Fowler and Corey Evans. Gene Kelley served an an honorary escort.

Bertha Dean
Mrs. Bertha Brock Dean, age 94 of Jasper, passed away Dec. 23, 2005 at
Grandview Health Care Center.
Survivors include her sons, Marvin and Stanley Dean, both of Jasper;
brother, Clyde Brock, Jasper; sisters, Eunice Dean, Jasper, and Lois
Padgett, Marietta. Four grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church
with the Revs. Marvin Chatham and Buck Parker officiating. Interment
followed in the church cemetery. Roper Funeral Home of Jasper in charge of
arrangements.

James Champion
Mr. James Champion, age 51 of Tate, Ga., passed away Jan. 1, 2006 at his
residence. The body was cremated.
Mr. Champion is survived by his wife, Patsy Champion; step-children,
Vernon and Art Lilyander and Margaret Nelson; and step-grandchildren, Robert
Lilyander and Avery Nelson.
A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 in the Chapel of
Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Von Hinton officiating.

Ola Jones
Mrs. Ola Belle Jones, age 94 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Saturday, Dec.
31, 2005 at Grandview Health Care Center.
Survivors include her step-sons, Clyde W., Jr. and Jack E. Jones; and
step-daughter, Kathleen Kirk. Twenty-four step-grandchildren, 23
step-great-grandchildren and 16 step-great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2 at Free Hope
Baptist Church. Interment followed in Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery with
the Revs. Kenneth Kirk and William Darnell officiating. Roper Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements.

Grady Ledbetter
Mr. Grady C. Ledbetter, age 78, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at
Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga.
Survivors include six brothers, Joseph, Jesse, Ransom, Sherman, Charles
and Veston Ledbetter; sisters, Martha Fain, Sarah Davis and Roxie Whitfield.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3 from Pleasant
Union Baptist Church in Cherokee County with the Rev. Gene Tatum
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Pickens County
Chapter #47 DAV in charge of military graveside rites. Roper Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.

Hilda Gault
Mrs. Hilda Juanita Gault, age 92 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Dec. 30,
2005 at her residence.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Howard Schoen of
Bent Tree. Four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 1 from Mt. Zion Baptist Church
with the Rev. Ben Langley officiating. Interment was held at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin, Il. Roper Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements.

Christine Spradling
Ms. Christine Spradling, age 59 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed late Thursday
evening, Dec. 29, 2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga.
Survivors include her sons, William Spradling, Covington, Ga., and Howard
Spradling, Rutledge, Ga.; daughter, Leisa Spradling, Ball Ground; brothers,
Robert Flemming, North Adams, Ma., and Donald Flemming, Enfield, N.H. Nine
grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 1 from the Chapel of Cagle
Funeral Home with the Rev. Victor Hurst officiating.

Jack Arrendale, Jr.
Mr. Jack Arrendale, Jr., age 52 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Saturday,
Dec. 24, 2005 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his father, Jack Arrendale, Sr., Ball Ground; brother,
Tony Arrendale, Marble Hill; sisters, Malinda, Cathy and Mary Arrendale, all
of Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27 from Corinth
Baptist Church with the Rev. Huey Holloway officiating. Interment followed
in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Lonnie and Gary Waters, William
Young, Ray Payne, Anthony Austin, Kenny Prather, Edward McArthur and P.J.
Fields. Honorary pallbearers were Buck Collett and Donald Reece. Cagle
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Roberta Cannon
Ms. Roberta Cannon, age 75 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005
at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include her step-mom, Dally O’Rourke, Fl.; son and
daughter-in-law, John and Suzanne Dillon, Pennsylvania; daughters and
son-in-law, Mickey and Marvin Bryant, Canton, Cynthia Myhal, Florida, and
Holly Nommensen, Jasper; and four grandchildren, Chris and Heather Bryant,
Brandon Nommensen and Wyatt Dillon.
Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Cleo Stone
Mrs. Cleo Stone, age 93 of the Ludville Community, passed away Saturday,
Dec. 24, 2005 at her residence.
Survivors include her sons, Vernon, Gene and William Stone, all of the
Ludville Community, and Toddy Stone, Hinton Community; daughters, Ollie
Hightower, Ruthell Cornett, Geneva Fountain, Aris Reed, Oris Hendrix and
Faye Young, all of the Ludville Community, and Myrtice Swafford,
Nicklesville. Fifty-one grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and several
great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26 from the Chapel of
Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Randall Chastain and Bobby Timms
officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain Cemetery. Pallbearers were:
Tony and Terry Fountain, Jerry, Bo and Phillip Hightower, Danny Childers,
Marshall Young, Ronnie Swafford and Scott Turner.

Bobby O’Shields
Mr. Bobby O’Shields, age 72 of Jasper, passed early Tuesday morning, Dec.
20, 2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, June O’Shields, Jasper; son and
daughter-in-law, Joe and Brenda O’Shields, Jasper; daughters and
sons-in-law, Connie and Larry Camp, Ball Ground and Susie and Lowell Gaddis,
Mark Tree, Ar.; step-daughters, Nacie and Paul Bennett, Ball Ground, Julie
McCleskey, Cumming, Beverly and Gary Duncan, Jasper, and Erica and Wesley
Davidson, Raeford, N.C.; brothers, T.I. O’Shields, Doraville, George
O’Shields, Tate, and Billy O’Shields, Jasper; and sister, Viona Pierce,
Tate. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel
of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Earl Wilkie and William Darnell
officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with local
chapter #47 DAV in charge of graveside services. Pallbearers were: Todd
Camp, Adam, Tommy and Jerry O’Shields, Gary Duncan and Paul Bennett.

Donas Blackwell
Mr. Donas The Big Indian Blackwell, age 70 of the Yellow Creek Community,
Passed away Dec, 22, 2005 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Claudine Blackwell of Yellow Creek; son and
daughter-in-law, Phil and Toni Blackwell, Yellow Creek; daughter and
son-in-law, Rita and Eddie Duckett, Mica Community; brothers, Floyd
Blackwell, Ball Ground, and W.M. Blackwell, Jasper; sisters, Loretta
Brackett, Doris Holden and Carolyn Hyde, all of Ball Ground, and Selma
Dobson, Yellow Creek. Three grandchildren and one step-grandson also
survives.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 24 from Yellow
Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Hyde, Roy Blackwell and Ricky
Dobson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers
were: Kenny Dobson, Michael and Kevin Duckett, Jeff Blackwell, Charlie
Holden, Kris Hyde and Freddie Brackett. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.

Chloe Willis
Mrs. Chloe Belle Moss Willis, age 95 of Marietta, passed late Friday
afternoon, Dec. 30, 2005 at Wellstar-Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Bob Smith,
Marietta, and Joann and William Jenkins, Woodstock; brother, Leeo Moss,
Talking Rock; sisters, Ruby Taylor, Marietta, and Ruth Jones, Canton; and
grandchildren, Cindy Reece, Amy Moyer, Charles Smith, Jason Jenkins and Lis
McSwain. Six great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of
Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Wilbur officiating. Interment followed
in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Charles and Joshua Reece, Chuck
Smith, Jim Martin, Billy Moss and Jason Jenkins serving as pallbearers.

Ellen Davis
Mrs. Ellen Lee Churchill Davis, age 63 of Gibson Trail, Jasper, Ga.,
Passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at her home.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her sons, Roger and Chris Davis; parents, Eston
Churchill and Nancy Shaner Bante; and five grandchildren, Ashley Burdick,
Joshua, Alyssa, Kristin and Katy Davis.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Roper Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.

James Casey
Mr. James David Casey, age 82 of Waleska, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Dec.
27, 2005 at his residence.
Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Bobo of Roebuck, S.C., Tamara
Wendt of Waleska, Ga., and Marlene Stewart of Temple, Tx.; brother, Larry
Dobbins, King of Prussa, Pa.; and sisters, Marcia Fagan of Pike Road, Al.,
Allison Hogan of Montgomery, Al., Leigh Pleasant of New Hill, N.C., and
Emily Knight of Conyers, Ga. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. from Goshen
Baptist Church in Waleska with the Revs. Billy Wallace and Ray Bobo
officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with full military honors.
Huey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Childers
Mrs. Ruth Lomax Childers, age 77 of Fairmount, Ga., passed away
Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at the Murray County Hospital following several
years of declining health.
Mrs. Childers was born on July 18, 1928 in Pickens County, Ga., the
daughter of the late John Butler and Ethel Hancock Lomax. She was also
preceded in death by her husband, Charles Author Childers in 1986; by a son,
Eric Lamar Childers on Nov. 21, 2005; and by a daughter, Lola Mae Cantrell
on Dec. 24, 1999. During her lifetime, she was employed by Lacey Mills of
Fairmount and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Fowler of Fairmount, Ga.; sons,
Edward, Douglas and Clinton Childers of Fairmount, Ralph Childers, Waleska,
Randall Childers, Calhoun, Ga., Keith Childers, Decatur, Ga., Mark Childers,
Shannon, Ga., and Reed Childers of Ranger, Ga.; sisters, Louise Beal and
Agnes Holmes, both of Fairmount; brothers, Lewis Lomax of Waleska, Ga., and
Marvin Lomax, Dalton, Ga. Twenty-two grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren
and nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Max
Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Gary Henson, Travis Childers and
Ronnie Wells officiating. Singing was arranged by Bobby Childers and the
Rev. Travis Childers. Active pallbearers were: Greyson, Chris, Ben, Craig,
Jeremy, Randy and Danny Childers. Honorary pallbearers were: Timmy and Shane
Childers, David and Thomas Lomax, Robin Burchfield, Johnny Cantrell, Jason
Fowler, Loyd Panter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment
followed in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery in Pickens County.
