Deloris Floyd
Mrs. Deloris J. Floyd, age 64 of Big Canoe, Ga., passed away Saturday
evening, August 20, 2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Surviving are her sons, Robert Floyd, Warner Robbins, Ga., Greg and Scott
Floyd, both of Big Canoe; brother, Jimmy Garrigus, Seattle, Wa.; sisters,
JoAnn DeBraal, New Mexico, and Susan Garrigus, California; grandsons, Jason
and Greg Floyd, both of Warner Robbins.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, August 24 at 11 a.m. at Big Canoe
Cemetery. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Videon, Jr.
Thomas Stetson Videon, Jr., age 83 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born March 11, 1924 in Olachawa, Fl., he was the son of the late Thomas Stetson Videon, Sr. and Maebell Callahan Videon. Mr. Videon had worked in the insurance industry, had served in the US Army during World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Videon, Bent Tree; daughter, Kathryn Videon Graham, Blacksburg, Va., son, Thomas Stetson Videon III, Martinez, Ga.; and grandchildren, Austin and James Graham, Thomas Videon IV and Robert Videon.
At his request, Mr. Videon was cremated. A Memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25 from the First Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy B. Lewis and the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 198 E Church St., Jasper, Ga. 30143.
Roper Funeral was in charge of arrangements.

Conrad Blank
Conrad A. Blank, age 69 of Dawsonville, Ga., passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Vista Care of Wesley Woods in Atlanta, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 28, 1937 in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Chanada Blank. Mr. Blank was also preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn Catherine Ruzas Blank. He was the CEO of Blank Industries.
Survivors include his sons, John Blank, Atlanta, James Blank, Cumming, Ga., and Mark Blank, Dawsonville, Ga. Other relatives also survive.
A graveside service was held at noon on Thursday, August 23 from the Dahlonega Memorial Park.

Kermit Bruce
Kermit Bruce, age 75 of Dawsonville, passed away Monday, August 20, 2007 at his residence.
Mr. Bruce was born in Brooks County, Ga. and was raised in Pickens County. He had lived in Lumpkin County since 1964. Mr. Bruce was a member of Etowah Baptist Church and a licensed minister and home minister at Etowah Baptist Church and Kilough Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Christine Bruce, Dawsonville; daughters, Brenda Abercrombie, Dawsonville, and Carla Johnson, Cumming; sons, Larry Bruce, Dawsonville, and Gary Bruce, Murphy, N.C.; sisters, Imogene Walker, Canton, and Jewell Ray, Tate; and grandchildren, Laura and Sean Eder, Mitchell and Adam Bruce, Jason Abercrombie, C.J. Payne, Patricia Love, Alyssa and Hayden Johnson. Six great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, August 23 at 2 p.m. from the Etowah Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Rev. Phil Martin officiating. Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega was in charge of arrangements.

Henry Mayes, Sr.
Mr. Henry Mayes, Sr., age 87 of Ball Ground, passed late Tuesday evening, Jan. 2, 2007 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, Jasper.
Mr. Mayes retired from the US Army in 1956 and was a businessman in Austin, Tx. from 1956 until 1974 when he moved back to Georgia.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Henry Mayes, Jr. and Kathleen, Edward E. Mayes and Valeria and Charles V. Mayes, all of Austin, Tx., and Gary S. Mayes, Dallas, Tx.; daughter, Teri L. Mayes, Los Angeles, Ca.; sisters, Martha Mayes Green, Ball Ground, and Nina Mayes Hill, Dawsonville. Eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by his parents, John Grover and Amma Ophelia Adams Mayes; brother, Frank Mayes; and sisters, Cora Mae Mayes, Lucille Martin and Nell Smith.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. at Tate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick McMahan officiating.

Dewey Medlin
Dewey Sampson Medlin, age 77, passed from this life August 20, 2007 after a long illness. He was born Nov. 28, 1929 and raised in Pickens County, Ga. He graduated from Pickens High School in Jasper and Memphis School of Preaching in Memphis, Tn.
Survivors include his loving wife and help mate of 57 years, Dot Medlin, Columbus, Ms.; son, Randy Medlin and wife Mia; daughters, June Moss (Tim), Knox City, Tx., and Alisa McMullen (T.J.), Columbus, Ms.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive; and a sister, Eunice Gilley, McDonough, Ga. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchael and Maggie Garrison Medlin; four brothers; three sisters; one grandchild; and two infant children.
The Medlins served many congregations of the Church of Christ in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Alabama. They also spread the truth of the Lord in Guyana and Honduras. Dewey and wife Dot provided a loving Christian home for their children and Granddaddy Dewey was an inspiration to his grandchildren. He was a positive, uplifting support to his many friends and relatives.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, August 22 at 11 a.m. from Lemley Funeral Chapel in Oneonta, Al. Officiating was his son Randy and good friend Charles Balcom of Hartselle, Al. Congregational singing was led by Paul Hazelrig of Altoona, Al. Pallbearers were: James David Kirk, David Conrad, Ed Yancey, Reid Thompson, Jake Robinson, Colin McKee, Don Prater and Gene Guy. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of America.

Jim Franklin
James William (Jim) Franklin, age 62 of Ball Ground, formerly of Big Canoe, Ga., passed away Monday, August 20, 2007 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Patty Franklin, Ball Ground; daughters and son-in-law, Candice and Chris Jones, Talking Rock, and Linsey Franklin, Ball Ground; brother, Paul Allen Franklin, Jacksonville, Fl.; sister, Carole Beautigam, Tallahassee, Fl.; grandchildren, Sydney and Sara Jones; niece, Traci Brannon; and nephews, Wes, Kevin and Allen Long and Trevor and Scott Allen Franklin.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 24 from Foothills Community Church with Dr. John Reale officiating. The family did accept potted plants or make memorials to Foothills Community Church Building Fund, 13724 Hwy. 53 E, Marble Hill, Ga. 30148.

William Hamrick
Mr. William Henry Hamrick, age 75 of Ludville, Ga., passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.
Mr. Hamrick was born in Pickens County on July 3, 1932, son of the late Jim and Ollie Hales Hamrick. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Hamrick, and a brother, James Hamrick.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Arline Young Hamrick of the home; son, Larry Hamrick; daughters, Annie Long and Lillie Watson, all of Ludville; brother, Sammie Lee Shephard, Sonoraville; sister, Leomia Young, Sonoraville; and grandchildren, Christina Evans, Dalton, Ga., Amanda Stuart, Ball Ground, Ga., Jason Hamrick, Sandy Smith and Lavelle Hamrick, all of Ludville, and Kimberly Cochran, Calhoun. Eight great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, August 24 at 2 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church in Ludville with the Rev. Bobby Timms officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jason Hamrick, Scott Cochran, Raymond Young, Charles Smith, Chris Watson and David Long.

William Holladay
William Francis Holladay, age 71 of Jasper, Ga., died on August 21, 2007 after a year and a half long brave battle with cancer.
Mr. Holladay was born July 31, 1936. He graduated from Clemson University in 1957. He was commissioned as an officer in the US Army where he served active and reserve status for eight years. Mr. Holladay was employed for 35 years with Bell South in various positions in the Comptrollers Department in both Charlotte, N.C. and Atlanta, Ga. He was a devout born-again Christian and was active in the Baptist church wherever he lived, serving as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, RA leader and church treasurer. Mr. Holladay was a member of Foothills Community Church in Marble Hill, Ga.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Margie Campbell Holladay; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Joan Holladay, Dunwoody, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and David Rutland, Cumming, Ga.; grandchildren, Sarah, Kristen and John Holladay and Austin and Will Rutland; brother, Charles (Betty) Holladay, Birmingham, Al.; and sisters, Mary (John) Fondren, Birmingham, Al., and Nancy (Jim) Stroud, Fort Worth, Tx. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at Foothills Community Church on Thursday, August 23 at 11 a.m. with interment at Arlington Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Foothills Community Church, 13724 Hwy. 53 E, Marble Hill, Ga. 30148 or a hospice of your choice.

Serenity Childers
Infant Serenity Rose Childers of the Jerusalem Community passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her parents, Jason and Dilene Childers, Jerusalem; grandparents, Diane Dobbs, Chatsworth, and Brenda Childers, Jerusalem; brothers, Harley and Billy Childers, Jerusalem; sister, Emma Childers, Jerusalem; uncle, Joey Childers, Jerusalem; and aunt and uncle, Gretchen and Kent Biddy.
A memorial service was held Saturday, August 25 at 2 p.m. at Unity Christian Church with the Rev. Glen Sims officiating. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Edith Sosebee
Mrs. Edith Sosebee, age 87 of Jasper, passed at her residence early Saturday morning, August 25, 2007.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Sosebee, Dawsonville; daughters and son-in-law, JoAnn Dorsey and Joyce and Troy Evans, all of Jasper. Nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, August 27 at 2 p.m. from Free Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Buddy Roper, Randy Weaver and Earl Wilkie officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Allen, Robert and Marty Dorsey, Scott and Daren Evans and Mark and Jason Sosebee serving as pallbearers.

Vera Brown
Mrs. Vera Turner Brown, age 77 of Rome, Ga., passed away Sunday, August 26, 2007 in a local hospital following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brown was born in Pickens County, Ga. on Nov. 15, 1929, daughter of the late Brady and Emily Cagle Turner. She lived most of her life in Floyd County and was a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Pickens High School and attended Reinhardt College. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Brown, Sr.; a sister, Helen Blan; and a brother, Perry Turner.
Survivors include her sons, John H. Brown, Jr. and wife Debbie, Rome, Kenneth Brown, Loganville, Ga., and Alan and wife Teresa Sanders, Snellville, Ga.; and daughters, Terrie and husband Charles Abrams, Rome, and Kathy Brown, Dalton, Ga. Eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside and interment service will be held Wednesday, August 29 at 2 p.m. from the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clyde Brock officiating. Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Eva Howell
Eva Grace Howell, age 73 of Canton, Ga., passed away Monday, August 27, 2007 at the Brian Center in Canton, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born August 11, 1934 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Monroe and Lou Vada Roper Howell. Miss Howell had worked in the cloth room of the Canton Cotton Mill and was a member of Burnt Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include her brother, Jim Howell, Jasper; and nieces and nephews, Elenora Reece, Terry and Gary Howell and Jerry and Charles Day. Several great-nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 29 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Gene Childers and Alan Day officiating. Interment will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nita Childers
Nita "Claudine" Childers, age 63 of Ranger, Ga., passed away Monday, August 27, 2007 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 3, 1943 in Gordon County, she was the daughter of the late Gus and Bonnie Fountain Childers. She was a caregiver in the medical profession.
Survivors include her sons, Ted and Tim Henderson, both of Ludville; brothers, A.P. Childers, Jerusalem Community, and Gene Childers, Ludville. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 29 from Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Hollis Crook and Terry Dean officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Effie Wood
Mrs. Effie "Lois" Wood, age 99 of Jasper, Ga., passed away at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include her son, Jack Wood of Hemet, Ca.; daughter, Shirley Hurlbut, Portland, Or.; brother, T.J. Stancil, Jasper; sisters, Faye Tippins and Bess Young, both of Canton. Five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, William Nay Wood.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006 from Pleasant Hill Christian Church with interment in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper. Ministers Leo Beller and Kasey Kuyper and Mr. Doug Lanier officiated. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Barham
Elizabeth (Betsy) Barham, age 73, died on August 24, 2006 at Mountain Healthcare.
Betsy was born in Jacksonville, Fl. and attended Florida State University. After raising three children, she embarked on several careers in financial services, working for large corporations in New York, Charlotte, Tampa and Atlanta, and then found her "home" when she moved to Talking Rock in 1997.
Her love of animals, gardening and community became the focus of her life. She pursued her love of gardening by becoming certified as a Georgia Master Gardener, and was instrumental in helping the group form its Sunshine Circle, which is dedicated to helping others who are sick or in need. She helped start the Jasper Farmers' Market, where she would sell her many handcrafted flower baskets, perennials and dried flower crafts. Her fondness for animals led her to become active in Pickens Animal Rescue, as well as to design and plant her own garden to become a certified wildlife habitat. She loved to share her knowledge of gardening and nature, teaching classes including "Green Thumb Gardening" at the Arts Center.
Betsy is survived by her three children: Stephen Price of Charlotte, N.C.; David Price of Needham, Ma. and Susan Price of Woodstock, Ga., as well as by her brother, Kenneth Small of Bellingham, Wa. She is also survived by five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on August 28 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home in Jasper. Donations can be made in Betsy's honor to Pickens Animal Rescue (www.pickensanimalrescue.org).

Horace Brindle
Horace Echota Brindle passed away Saturday, August 26, 2006 after a long illness. He is one of 12 children born to Albert and Agnes Brendel, now deceased.
Horace has three daughters, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
"But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me." - Psalms 49:15.

Wallace Wheeler
Mr. E. Wallace Wheeler, age 95 of Dogwood Avenue, Jasper, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Mr. Wheeler was born March 11, 1911, the first child of Edgar and Alma Little Wheeler. He was a Pickens County native. He spent 30 years in law enforcement. His career began as a deputy sheriff in Pickens County. Later he was with the Federal Alcohol and Tobacco and Tax Unit. He retired after 20 years as an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
His hobbies included gardening, telling stories of his boyhood experiences in Pickens County and his years in law enforcement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and John Shope, Woodstock, and Sandra and Tony Payne, Jasper; grandchildren, Chuck and Lisa Payne, Tonia and Mark Storet and Deanna and Mathew Carter; nine great-grandchildren who knew him as "Dad-O" include Levi, Emma, Julianna, Caroline, Sam, Lucy, Christian, Aidan and Molley; one sister, Betty Arrendale of Marion, Inc.; and sister-in-law, Emily Wheeler of Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home. Interment followed in Jasper City Cemetery. The service was conducted by The Revs. Leonard Perry and Von Hinton. David Stuart provided music for the service. Pallbearers were: John Cagle, Phillip Floyd, Lanier Grant, Tommy Holley, George Wheeler and Mark Whitfield.
