Christine Berry

Services for Christine Berry, Cairo, are at noon Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at Weston's Funeral Chapel in Cairo, with the Rev. Dellise Cox officiating. Interment is at Crestview Cemetery, with friends of the family as pallbearers. Miss Berry died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Hospitality Care. A native of Randolph County, she was a daughter of the late Jimmy Newsome and Cora Berry. Miss Berry was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by nieces, Alma Kelly, Elnora Bogan, Mary Glenn (Kenneth), Mae Helen Huntley (Ricky), all of Cairo, Emma Lender, Jacksonville, Fla.; nephews, Larry Thomas, Cairo, Ozene Brown, Atlanta; a very devoted friend, Mildred King (personal care home), two brothers-in-law, Authur Gilbert ( B.), Simon Gilbert, sister-in-law, Mary Gilbert Jones, all of Cairo; and a host of other nieces and nephews. -- Weston's Funeral Home

Dorothy Boyette Nichols

Services for Dorothy Boyette Nichols, 84, of Pavo, were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Barwick Baptist Church with Rev. Douglas Mitchell and Rev. Philip Hudson officiating. Mrs. Nichols died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at her residence after a brief illness. Interment was at Rosewood Cemetery. Born in Lowndes County she was the daughter of Noah and Armetta Johnson Boyette. She was a resident of Brooks County since 1944, moving there from Cook County. She was a homemaker, a member of the Barwick Baptist Church were she had served as the church librarian since 1996, a member of the Brooks County Historical Society, the Piece Makers Quilt Club and the Brooks County Homemakers Club. She was an accomplished quilt maker and daylily gardener. Survivors include two daughters, Sue Nichols Manley of Pavo and Martha (Ben) English of Moultrie; two sons, Lamar (Pat) Nichols of Pavo and Derry (Margie) Nichols of Kingsport, Tenn.; seven grandchildren: Chris Manley, Vonda (Eric) Jones, Nick Murray, Harris English, Trisha (Robby) Hastings, Morri (Mark) Landes, Chase (Sandra) Nichols; six great grandchildren, Drew, J.D., Tanner and Molly Nichols, Hamilton Landes and Ryan Jones; three sisters, Ruth Jefferson of Adel, Jewel Hall of Hahira, Sara Layton of Lithia Springs and brother Kenneth Boyette of Hahira. Gerald Thomas "Jerry" Howard, 64, died Sept. 15, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Patricia Beck

Services for Patricia Beck, 62, of Cairo, are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Cairo. Officiating ministers are Father Thomas Murphy and Chaplain Wendell Hollingsworth. Ms. Beck died on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, in Cairo. She was a cashier at Harvey's Supermarket for more than 20 years. Alex L. Butler

Services for Alex L. Butler, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Dawson Street United Methodist Church. The Revs. Bob Hall and Carl Howard will officiate, with interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Butler died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Grady General Hospital. Son of the late Benjamin Franklin Butler and Mamie Ballard Butler, he was born in Pine Park on Nov. 23, 1921. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a captain with the Thomasville Police Department who retired after 34 years of service. He was married to Betty Nell Whittle Butler on Aug. 22, 1954, in Sycamore, Fla., and was a member of the Peace Officers Association and Dawson Street United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Methodist Men and president of the Sunshine Fellowship. He is survived by his wife, Betty Nell Butler of Thomasville; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Faye Butler and Kenneth and Jami Butler, all of Thomasville; grandsons, Harrison Butler and Matthew Butler, both of Thomasville; a granddaughter, Lauren Butler of Thomasville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home. Born Aug. 24, 1934 in Thomasville, she was a daughter of the late the Rev. Tom and Ada Warren Harris. She was a homemaker and had lived in Thomasville all her life. Survivors include a grandson, Artreil Austin (Sandra) of Thomasville; sisters, France Harris of Thomasville, Belvine Solomon of Atlanta, Mary Louise Lurry of Cairo; granddaughter, Michelle Griffin (Shawn) of Tallahassee, Fla.; special niece, Ada Harris of Thomasville; grandchildren, Jamaya Austin, Jazmine Austin, Sierra Derico, Shawn Griffin, RaShawnda Griffin, Shawnda Griffin, Domimgue Willis; aunts, Martha Thomas of Detroit, Mich., Willie Ruth Wilson of Atlanta; great-granddaughters, Shamika Griffin and Shelvon Griffin of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a host of other relatives and friends. -- Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home

Rosa Lee Jones

Services for Rosa Lee Jones, 79, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Hadley CME Church, 244 Stewart Road. Pastor Walter Marria and the Rev. Joseph Davis will officiate, with interment at Hadley Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Sean Mobley, Keith Rodgers, Alphonso Brown, Charles Jones, James Vickers and Etoiyd Jones. Ms. Jones died on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at her residence. Born on Sept. 15, 1924, to the late Lloyd and Sarah Henderson Brown, she was a lifelong resident of Thomasville and was preceded in death by her husband, High Lee Jones Sr. She attended Greenwood School and was a homemaker and a member of Westside Church of Christ. She is survived by three daughters, Betty Jean Davis and Yvonne Jones, both of Thomasville, and Mae Francis Williams of Chicago; five sons, Alvin (Rebecca) Jones and Harris Jones, all of Thomasville, Larry Jones and High Lee Jones Jr., both of Valdosta, and Curtis (Patricia) Jones of Willingboro, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mattie R. Harold and Mildred Dean, both of Washington D.C., Bernice Butler of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jimmie Lee Glenn of Thomasville; a brother, W.L. Brown of Thomasville; five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A daughter, Jacquelyn Jones, preceded her in death. A wake will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Hadley's Funeral Home. The funeral procession will assemble at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at 217 Forrest St., Thomasville. -- Hadley's Funeral Home

Charlie Meeks

Services for Charlie Meeks, 75, of Thomasville, are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Hadley's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Alvin Williams will officiate, with interment at Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are friends of the family. Mr. Meeks died on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Archbold Medical Center. Born on May 15, 1928, he was son of the late Benjamin Meeks Sr. and Ida Banks Meeks. Wife Edna Thompson Meeks preceded him in death. He was a retired housekeeping supervisor for Southwestern State Hospital and was a member of Clifford Temple CME Church. Survivors include a brother, Willie J. Meeks of Thomasville; a sister-in-law, Ruth Meeks of Thomasville; a step-daughter, Josie Staten of Thomasville; a son-in-law, Ira Staten of Thomasville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Two brothers, Benjamin Meeks Jr. and Freddy Meeks, also preceded him in death. John William Mitchell

Graveside services for John William Mitchell, 35, of Boston are at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at 4988 Five Forks Road, Boston. The Rev. Colburn Hobbs will officiate. Mr. Mitchell died on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at his residence. Born on Sept. 6, 1968, in Thomasville, he was a son of Frank and Jean Mitchell of Boston, who survive. Other survivors include a brother, Frankie Mitchell Jr. of Boston; a sister, Lisa McDonald of Thomasville; a brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Chris Mitchell of Thomasville; and a best friend and partner, Terry Botvenek of Boston; nephews, Frank Mitchell III of Pine Park and Jamie McDonald, Mitchell McDonald and Jake McDonald, all of Thomasville; nieces, Shea McDonald and April Beheeler, both of Thomasville; and two great nephews, Little John McDonald and Alex Flumerfelt, both of Thomasville. Sara Joyce Dyes Oliver

Graveside services for Sara Joyce Dyes Oliver, of Thomasville, are at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Doerun City Cemetery. Ms. Oliver died on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born in Doerun on March 15, 1943, she was daughter of Jesse Novellie Allen Dyes of Bridgeboro and the late Rufus Dyes. She was married to Charles E. Oliver on Dec. 10, 1990, and was a member of Faith Christian Center. She and her husband had been attending Rose City Church of God. She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Oliver of Thomasville; two sons, David C. Barfield and wife Teresa and Jonathan C. Barfield and wife Dee, all of Thomasville; a daughter, Tonya Michelle Wampole and husband Robert of Loganville; grandchildren, Eric Barfield, Derrick Barfield, Brittney Joyce Barfield, Alison Beth Barfield, Ian Van Barfield, Skye Michael Barfield, Nancy Ramona Wampole and Laura Beth Wampole; her mother, Novellie Allen Dyes of Bridgeboro; a brother, Buddy Dyes and wife Paula of Bridgeboro; a sister, Ann Dyes Wood and husband Everett of Albany; an adopted daughter, April P. Mr. Sexion died on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Archbold Medical Center. Born on Nov. 28, 1958, in Thomasville, he was son of the late Willie Frank Sexion and Betha Lee Sexion. He attended Thomasville City Schools and was a member of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by two brothers, Larry (Fletta) Sexion and Ronald Sexion, both of Thomasville; three sisters, Wanda (Tidus) Wilson, Patrica Peters and Brenda Sexion, all of Thomasville; three aunts, Viola Clark, Margaret (Tom) Bush and Lovey Montgomery, all of Thomasville; six uncles, Roscoe (Alberta) Williams, Gene Williams and David Williams, all of Thomasville, Noah (Sherry) Swain and Ben (Joyce) Swain, both of Atlanta, and Herbert (Sinsuk) Swain of New York; a great aunt, Mary Daniels of Thomasville; a special cousin, Callie Wright of Thomasville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Mrs. Gates died Wednesday, Dec. 3 in Crestview. She retired from Southern Bell Telephone after 25 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, George Gates of Thomasville; daughters, Denise and her husband, Van Anderson of Crestview, Linda Wahner of Crestview; a brother, Howard Morgan and his wife, Joan of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mary Morgan of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Mike Anderson, Chris Anderson, Daniel Wahner, Stephanie Wahner, David Wahner, Alan Jameson and Alex Jameson all of Crestview. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Other survivors include sons, John David Shropshire, Chas Ryan Lewis, Dylan Chance Shropshire all of Pelham; sisters, Stacy Shropshire of Thomasville, Peggy Aldridge of Pelham, Johnnie Faircloth of Cairo; grandmother, Margaret Hutchinson of Darien; grandfather, Clifford Brockman of Beeville, Texas; six nephews; and two nieces. Born Feb. 5, 1963 in Thomasville, he was a son of Jack Alexander and Josephine Jones Tims. Survivors include his wife, Linda Davis Jones of Thomasville; a son, Michael Sharpe of Thomasville; daughters, Arielal Davis of Thomasville, Ariela Jones of Thomasville; his mother, Josephine J. Tims of Thomasville; his father, Jack Alexander of Miami, Fla.; a brother, Sherwin Randy Jones of Waycross; uncles, Samuel Taylor, Ricky Taylor both of Atlanta, Raleigh Taylor of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Diana Toles of Thomasville; brothers-in-law, Andrew Bryant of Statesboro, Lin Davis of Oklahoma City, Okla.; aunts, Carolyn Campbell, Sandra Smith both of North Carolina, Martha Alexander of Thomasville; nieces, Kashuntra Jones, Shiranda Jones both of Thomasville; and many other relatives. Services for Gladys Mae Hogan Golden of Thomasville are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at Dawson Street Baptist Church where she was a member. The Rev. Lee Waller and the Rev. Marlen Lastinger will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Golden died Dec. 4 at Brynwood Center in Monticello, Fla. Born Dec. 23, 1932 in Thomas County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Theo Hogan and Agnes Ayers Hogan Davis. On Feb. 11, 1951 in Thomasville, she married Isler Durell Golden, who survives. Mrs. Golden was a homemaker. Other survivors include a son, Rodney Durell Golden of Crawfordville, Fla.; daughter, Margaret Golden Stone; son, Richard Keith Golden both of Thomasville; sister, Gwen Sloan of N. Augusta, S.C.; grandchildren, Richard Stone, Michael Stone, Kaitlyn Stone and Rodney Golden. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Diana Golden; grandson, Ryan Golden; and sister, Myra Bush.
