Julia Wheeler
Mrs. Julia Dobson Wheeler, age 87 of Dogwood Ave., Jasper, Ga., passed
away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 at her residence.
Mrs. Wheeler was born Sept. 1, 1918, the fifth child of Roy and Ida
Dobson. She was reared in Butts County, Ga. In the 1930s she moved to Jasper
where she lived until the time of her death. After moving to Jasper, she
first lived with her sister and then with Carter and Lois Low. In 1939 she
married Wallace Wheeler. During her lifetime, she had many different
professions. She was a hairdresser, licensed dental hygienist and Pickens
County librarian. She met and loved so many people during her lifetime and
considered herself rich because of the many, many people who called her
friend. She was many things to many people. Of all the roles she filled, she
was first wife, mother, Grandmom and Mom-mom.
As a member of the First Baptist Church, Jasper, she was involved in many
church activities. The choir was one of her favorites. At her death, she was
a member of the Fidelis Class.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Wallace Wheeler. Also
surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Tony Payne and
Barbara and John Shope; grandchildren, Chuck and Lisa Payne, Tonia and Mark
Stout and Deanna and Matthew Carter; and great-grandchildren who knew her as
Mom-Mom, Levi, Emma, Julianna, Caroline, Sam, Lucy, Christian, Aidan and
Molly; and three sisters-in-law, Betty Arrendale, Emily and Edith Wheeler.
Many nieces and nephews who brought her much joy and happiness also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 from the Chapel
of Roper Funeral Home. Interment followed in Jasper City Cemetery with the
Rev. Von Hinton officiating. The following served as pallbearers: Clint
Chapman, Tommy Holley, Tommy Massey, George Wheeler, John Stancil and Jim
Dobson. The Wheeler family did accept flowers or you may make a donation to
the Jasper First Baptist Church.

Jackie Sperin
Ms. Jackie Lyn Sperin, passed away early Friday morning, August 26, 2005
in Jasper. She was born Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1959 at Tate Community Clinic in
Tate, Ga.
Survivors include her sons, Evan of Morganton and Joseph of Jasper;
parents, Jack and Sara E. Sperin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip M.
and Teresa A. Sperin of Tate and William R. and Debra B. Sperin of
Clarkesville; sisters and brother-in-law, Susan S. and Jim Allen, Martinez,
and Sheri E. Sperin, Hiram; uncle, Robert E. and Sharon H. Eubanks, Fort
Worth, Tx.; aunts, Faye S. and Jim Blackwell, Ball Ground, and Kathleen E.
and Sherwood Hall, Spring Hill, Fl. Fourteen nieces and nephews, several
great-aunt, cousins and friends also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 29 from Cool
Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddie Martin and Von Hinton
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were:
Sheri, Phillip and William Sperin, Tim and Willie Prather and Mike Aiken.
Donations may be made to LifeLink, 2875 Northwoods Parkway, Norcross, Ga.

Aldon Patterson
Mr. Aldon Green Patterson of Fairmount, Ga. passed away Sunday, Jan. 8,
2006 at the Blue Ridge Health Care in Blue Ridge, Ga.
Survivors include his brother, Alvin Moss; and sisters, Audry Ellis and
Retha Silvers. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. from Friendship
Baptist Church with the Revs. Buddy Roper, Harold Cantrell and Hollis Crook
officiating. Interment followed in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery under
the director of Roper Funeral Home.

David Cantrell
Mr. David Cantrell passed at his residence Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 3,
2006 in Jasper.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Robert Hosbach,
Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Dean Cantrell, Marble Hill, and Terry Cantrell,
Jasper; and grandsons, Christian and Regan Hosbach.
The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of
Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Huey Holloway and Leroy Kelley
officiating. Interment followed in Free Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with
Josh and Jeff Cantrell, Russell Burger, Andy Bannister, Jack Owens, Cody
Ingram and Jeff Quinton serving as pallbearers. The family did accept
flowers or memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in
Memphis, Tn.

Clint Chastain
Mr. Clint Chastain, age 82 of Marble Hill, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7,
2006 at Grandview Health Care Center.
Survivors include his sons, Barry Chastain, Dawsonville, and Larry
Chastain, Turtletown, Tn.; daughters, Joan Mayfield, Ball Ground, Sheila
Beck, Jasper, and Cindy Boothe, Marble Hill; brother, Jim Chastain, Marble
Hill; sister, Wilma Cox, Marble Hill. Seventeen grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Chapel of Cagle
Funeral Home with the Revs. Hugh Fields, Todd McGee and Tim Boothe
officiating. Interment followed in Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery in Dawson
County. The following served as pallbearers: Jeremy Chastain, Tracy Lester,
Dustin and Joseph Boothe, Joey Walden and Robbie Eaton. Honorary pallbearers
were Dean Cantrell and Bud Matthews.

Lealon Greene
Mr. Lealon Greene, age 62 of Talking Rock, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Kennestone Hospital. He was a US Army veteran, retired from Lockheed and a member of Masonic Lodge #77, Mechanic Union Lodge #709 and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Greene, Talking Rock; sons, Kyle and Keith Greene, both of Canton, and Chipper Kelley of Valdosta; daughters, Dianna Hodgin of Dallas, Pamela Livingston of San Diego, Ca. and Samantha Rutledge of Douglasville; brother, Melvin Greene of Jasper; sisters, Marie Lewis and Linda Faye Cox, both of Canton, Laverne Roper of Ball Ground and Dianne King of Waleska. Twelve grandchildren also survive.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 from Sunrise Memorial Gardens with the Masons in charge of graveside services. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Allen Stephens
Mr. Allen Stephens, age 82 of Canton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at Portsbridge Hospice in Dunwoody.
Mr. Stephens was a retired Col. in the US Army and also a WW II war veteran. He was a charter member and founder of the Canton National Guard. He was a past master of the Canton Masonic Lodge #77 and a member of the Cherokee Shrine Club and Yaarb Temple. Mr. Stephens was the past high priest of the Canton Chapter of the Royal Arch Mason #135 and a founding member of the Elk Lodge. He was also retired from Lockheed and a member of the Riverdale Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons, the Rev. Jimmy Stephens and Phillip Stephens, both of Canton; brother, Robert Stephens of Lawrenceville; sister, Cammie Porterfield of Seymour, Tn. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Riverdale Baptist Church with the Revs. Bobby Segars, Edwin Weaver, Joey Dubois and Buddy Roper officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park with DAV military honors and Masonic graveside services. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alvin Gibson
Mr. Alvin Gibson, age 50 of Marble Hill, passed away suddenly Jan. 4, 2003.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Gibson, Marble Hill; mother, Edna Gibson, Dawsonville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Angel Gibson, Ball Ground, and Terry and Julia Gibson, Marble Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and William Bell, Marble Hill; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Joyce Gibson, Dawsonville, Jeff and Teri Gibson, Talking Rock, and Jim and Betty Ann Gibson, Marble Hill; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Gibson, Tate, Sue and Lindsay Petty, Marble Hill, Ann and Joe Clark, Jasper, and Oma and Tony Tribble, Cumming. Three grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 from Yellow Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy Blackwell and Dozier Henderson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Greg Gibson, David, Gary and Bradley Pearson, Wes Clark and Jerry Wright. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Patricia Holloway
Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Ann Holloway, age 58 of Dawsonville, passed away Jan. 10, 2003 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Roy Holloway of Yellow Creek Community; mother, Lillie Mae Mincey of Stone Mountain; sons, Robert Pruitt of Oconee and Joseph Holloway of Yellow Creek; daughters, Wanda Hutchison and Tammy Smith, both of Bethlehem, Delleene Worley of Yellow Creek and Rosa Turner of Ducktown; brother, Jerry Mincey of Covington; sisters, Sylvia Miller of Covington and Linda Baker of Stone Mountain. Ten grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. John Henderson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Johnny Archer, Rusty and Jack White, Jody Johnson, Jeff Miller and Jeff Lewis. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Virgie Morgan
Virgie Mae Morgan, age 104 of Etowah, Tn., passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at her home.
A native of Monroe County and a resident of Etowah for 67 years, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Robert and Venie Malone Raper. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ollie Morgan; four sons, J.B., Charles, Reed and Glenn Morgan; six grandsons; and one granddaughter.
Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Hazel Dean of Ball Ground, Geraldine and Bill Watts of Sarasota, Fl., Betty Watson and Olliemae and George Rayburn, all of Etowah; one sister, Ruth Lacewell of Sweetwater. Sixteen grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday from McMinn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Atkins officiating. Bordwine Funeral Home of Etowah was in charge of the arrangements.

Wilma Moss
Mrs. Wilma B. Moss, age 89 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
She is survived by one brother, Willard Sosebee, Jasper, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Buddy Roper and Gene Childers officiating. Interment followed in Old Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherokee County. The following served as pallbearers: Scott Evans, Lee and Mike Sosebee, Rex Roden and Marty Dorsey.

Richard Williams
Mr. Richard “Benny” Williams, age 64 of Ellijay, passed away Jan. 11, 2003 at the VA Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Hood Williams; mother, Odella Williams of Buchanan, Ga.; son, Richard Glen Williams of Boise, Id.; daughters, Dee Dettman and Denise Tullis, both of Gainesville, Ga.; brothers, Osborn and Leon Williams, both of Jasper; sister, Gladys Johnson of Woodstock. Six grandchildren and the mother of Mr. Williams’ children, Shirley Evans, of Ellijay, also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam May officiating. Interment followed in Talking Rock Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Tinsley and Tim Jones, Michael Carter, Todd Jarrett, Scott Fortenberry and Allen Johnson.

Vernon Meek
Mr. Vernon Meek, age 53 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Castleberry, Jasper; mother, Peggy Meek, Newnan; one son, Dwight Castleberry, Jasper; three daughters, Charity Hurt, Locust Grove, Brook Meek, Austell, and Sherry Edmonson, Ellijay; two brothers, Roy and Bill Meek, both of Newnan; two sisters, Connie and Brenda. Three grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Dozier Henderson and Troy Milford officiating. Interment was in the Ophir Baptist Church Cemetery with Local #47 DAV in charge of military graveside services. Serving as pallbearers were: Bill and Ray Meek, James Thompson, Dwight Castleberry, Charles and Justin Cantrell, Kevin Hurt and Chris Buchanan.

Tim Haley
Tim Haley, age 34 of the Clayton Community, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at his residence. He was employed by Amicalola Electric of Jasper.
Tim is survived by his wife, Beth; daughters, Emily and Breanna; parents, the Rev. Donald and Bonnie (Raynes) Haley; and brother, Jeff Haley, all of Canton.
The service was held Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The Revs. Donald Smith, Buck Parker and Max West officiated. Huey Funeral Home of Canton was in charge of the arrangements.

Lester Loss, Sr.
Mr. Lester H. Loss, Sr., age 87 of Baltimore, Md., passed away on Monday,
Nov. 21, 2005 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Suzanne Loss of
Dickens, Tx.; daughter and son-in-law, James Larry and Andrea Cantrell of
Jasper, Ga. Seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces
and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death his wife, Mary Hennelly
Loss, and a son, Lester H. Loss, Jr.
Loudon Park Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Carlan
Mrs. Evelyn Lewallen Carlan, age 78 of Carlan Road, Jasper, passed away
Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include sons, Ron, Don and Tony Carlan; daughter, Jan Tate;
brothers, Hershel, Jerry and Kenneth Lewallen, all of Gainesville, Ga. Seven
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Carlan was
preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, and a son, Terry.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 from the
Hinton United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ken Phillips and Johnny Barnes
officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pickens County
4-H. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Zobel
Mrs. Carolyn Zobel, age 66 of Windy Ridge Road, Jasper, passed away
Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Zobel of the home; daughter, Renea
Coleman of Wigam, Ga.; brother, Wesley Conner; sisters, Iris Ward and Brenda
Gibson.
A private graveside service was held Monday, Jan. 16 at Lake Forest
Memorial Park in Jasper. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday,
Jan. 20 at Mountain View Community Church with the Rev. Charles Sineath
officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Georgia Mountain
Hospice. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Rodger Millman
Mr. Rodger Millman, age 60 of Oakland Drive, Jasper, passed away
Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006.
Survivors include his wife, Cathryn Millman of the home; daughters,
Kristie Scofield of Canton, Ga. and Jennifer Millman of Atlanta, Ga.;
brother, Donald Millman of Macon, Ga. Two grandchildren, Cassie and Alyssa
Scofield also survive.
Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 16 from 2-5 p.m. at Roper Funeral Home.
No other services will be held.

Donald Hendrix
Mr. Donald C. Hendrix, age 81 of Dunn, formerly of Jasper, Ga., passed
away Sunday.
Mr. Hendrix was born Feb. 29, 1924 in Union Hill, Ga., son of the late
Roscoe and Pearl Hendrix. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in
the US Army Air Corps. He was also a member of the DAV and the Sportsman’s
Club, both in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Hendrix; son, Patrick Hendrix of
Jasper; daughter, Donna Mulcahy of Wade; sister, Henrietta Henry of Avon
Park, Fl. Six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. He
was preceded in death by a son, Randy.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joseph Rhodes, Sr.
Mr. Joseph Andrew Rhodes, Sr., age 82 of Jasper, passed at his residence
Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 10, 2006.
Mr. Rhodes was born in Atlanta, Ga. on July 24, 1923, the son of Edgar
Leon Rhodes, Sr. and Annie Lou Tatum Rhodes. During the Depression era the
family moved to Alpharetta, Ga. Mr. Rhodes attended Milton High School and
graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He
served in the US Army Air Corp during WW II as a pilot of a B-26. After the
war he moved to Birmingham, Al. where he worked for 20 years with American
Standard and later formed his own engineering company which dealt with air
pollution equipment.
He enjoyed mentoring children in the Jasper area and those in need. He
was a strong believer in Christian values. In his later years, he had lived
in Tallapoosa, Breman and much later in Jasper.
Survivors include his sons, Joseph A. Rhodes, Jr., Greenville, S.C., and
Roger Rhodes, Kennesaw; brother, Edgar Rhodes, Breman; grandsons,
Christopher, Brian and Matthew Rhodes; and granddaughter, Haley Rhodes.
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of
Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Scott and Hoyt Jenkins
officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
