TIMOTHY JACKSON LANCE

Mr. Timothy Jackson Lance age 24 of Berry Lane Blairsville passed away on Saturday April 1, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following a sudden illness. Mr. Lance was born on July 14, 1981 in Union County, The son of Ted Lance and Debbie Anderson Lance. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School system. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Coy Lance and an Aunt, Gayle Lance. Mr. Lance attended the North Mt. Zion Church of God in Hiawassee.

Surviving Mr. Lance are his loving wife, Shawnda Jones Lance of Blairsville, one son, William Jackson Lance of Blairsville, Father and mother, Ted and Debbie Lance of Blairsville, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Karen Michelle Lance of Jasper, Jennifer and Jeff Stewart of Hayesville, Teresa and Daniel Gibbs of Blairsville, Grandparents, Ruby Jewell Lance of Blairsville, Brownlow and Velma Anderson of Hiawassee, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday April 3, 2006 at 2:00pm from the North Mt. Zion Church of God in Hiawassee with the Rev. Raburne Wilson officiating. Special Music will be presented by the Raburne Wilson Family and Gary Taylor. The body will lie in state at the church from 12-2pm on Monday. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jeff Stewart, Daniel Gibbs, Alton Garrett, Chris Keys, Kim Jones and Nick Jones. Interment will follow in the Owl Town Church of God cemetery in Blairsville. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9pm.

MARIE AVIS LEE MARLOW

Mrs. Marie Avis Lee Marlow age 72 of Nottley Dam Rd. Blairsville passed away on Saturday April 1, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Marlow was born on June 3, 1933 in Fannin County, The daughter of the late Harley Lee and the late Della Barnes Lee. She was a native and lifelong resident of Fannin County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Jackson Marlow in 1978 and also by two sons, James Marlow in 2005 and Johnny Marlow in 2004.Mrs.Marlow was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Marlow are six children, Donnie and Kathy Marlow of Blairsville, Mary Carpenter of Ranger, Brenda Marlow of Ellijay, Barbara and Eugene Lackey of Blairsville, Steve and Melissa Marlow of Mineral Bluff, Ann and Wesley Grizzle of Ranger, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Elsa Anthony of Blairsville, Ina and Clyde Payne of Blairsville, one brother, Lawrence Lee of Blairsville, twenty Grandchildren, thirteen Great-Grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday April 3, 2006 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Marlow’s Grandsons and Nephews. Interment will follow in the Hemptown Baptist Church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9pm.

FLORA MAE FANN

Mrs. Flora Mae Fann age 95 of Tractor Trails Blairsville formerly of Marietta passed away on Saturday April 1, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Fann was born on Sept. 10, 1910 in Canton, GA, The daughter of the late Richard Turk Peardon and the late Georgia Bell Darby Peardon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leman Fann, son, Charles Lee Fann, daughter, Sally Mae Fann and by a granddaughter, Pat Christopher. Flora Mae was a great mother, grandmother and friend. She had a green thumb for gardening and was a good cook. She loved to travel and enjoyed arts and crafts. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Fann was a member of Cooper Lake Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA.

Surviving Mrs. Fann are three daughters, Florine Painter of Andrews, NC, Jo Brown of Blairsville, Peggy Corder of Carrollton, GA, two brothers, Gene Peardon of Dahlonega, Junior and Geneva Peardon of Marietta six grandchildren, Lora Corder, Lolita Rodrigues, Tim Corder, Roy Brown Jr., Charaine Manwell and Lisa Downs. A number of great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday April 4, 2006 at 1:00pm from the Cherokee Memorial Park cemetery in Canton, GA. With the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating. The family will meet with friends following the services.

EUGENE FRANKLIN ROGERS

US Air Force

Mr. Eugene Franklin Rogers, age 70 of Chapman Ford Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday April 7, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Rogers was born on Sept. 18, 1935 in Union County, The son of the late Grady Rogers and the late Violet Reece Rogers. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He owned and operated Genes Appliance Repair Service for several years. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Rogers in 2006 and Wayne Rogers in 1987.Mr.Rogers was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mr. Rogers are his loving wife of forty two years, Winona Barbara Rogers of Blairsville, seven children, Verna and Ricky Vincent of Forest Park, GA, William and Glenda Peck of Douglasville, GA, Michael Rogers of Seattle, WA., Pat and Laura Hacker of Woodstock, Janet and Jeff King of Blairsville, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Thelma Self of Columbia, SC., Willie and Harry Colwell of Blairsville, Betty and Charles Hutson of Ball Ground, GA, six Grandchildren, Nicky, Christy, Krystal, Tracey, Jason and Jonathon, four Great-Grandchildren, Brandy, Brittney, Courtney and Clint Jr., many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2006 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Sisum and Mrs. Betty Hutson officiating. Special music will be presented by Becky Rogers. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Tim Colwell, Joey Colwell, Kenny Hutson, Johnny Cook, Jackie Cook and Wade Howell. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6-9pm.

DOROTHY LORBER SMITH

Mrs. Dorothy Lorber Smith, age 82 of Haizlip Ridge Blairsville, Georgia formerly of Bedford, PA. passed away on Monday Sept. 12, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was born on Sept. 2, 1923 in Baltimore, MD. the daughter of the late Charles Adolph Lorber and the late Anna Hildegarde Lorber. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. She was a retired teacher with over twenty five years of service with the Miami, FL and Bedford, PA. Schools systems. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Assn. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.

Surviving Mrs. Smith are her loving husband of sixty two years. Fred Shannon Smith of Blairsville, formerly of Bedford, PA, their four children, Dorothy J. Smith of Coral Gables, FL, Fred J. and Rita Smith of Atlanta, Diane and James Widmer of Alpharetta, Richard and Deborah Smith of Blairsville, one sister, Anne Ingle of Tallahassee, FL, one brother, Charles Lorber of NY, Ten grandchildren, Seven great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday Sept. 15, 2005 at 1:30pm from the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church with Father Richard Wise officiating. The following Family members served as pallbearers, Jim Widmer, Casey Smith, Todd Smith, Brennan Smith. James Smith and Patrick Smith. Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery.

MARY GIAMPORTONE

Mrs. Mary Giamportone, age 93 of the Gainesville Hwy Blairsville, formerly of St. Clair Shores, MI., passed away on Friday Sept. 23, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following a brief illness. Mrs. Giamportone was born on Jan.6, 1912 in Anita, PA. The daughter of the late Charles Cutense and the late Bessie Dimino Cutense. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Giamportone in 1985, also by six brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Giamportone attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.

Surviving Mrs. Giamportone are one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Barbara Giamportone of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Robert Mikszewski of Clinton Township, MI., one sister, Susan Laaks of Pittsburg, PA, one brother, Anthony Cutense of Pittsburg, Six Grandchildren, David Mikszewski, Maria Anderson, Michael, Ronald, Robert and Joseph Giamportone, Six Great Grandchildren, three Great-Great Grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date in Michigan and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mrs. Giamportone’s memory.

WILLIAM CLIFFORD DUBOSE

WWII Veteran

Mr. William Clifford DuBose age 81 of Sally Gap Trail Hayesville passed away on Saturday Spet.24, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. DuBose was born on March 27, 1924 in San Francisco, CA, the son of the late William DuBose Sr., and the late Belle Bray DuBose. He retired from the 3-M Company with over thirty seven years of service. He was a Veteran of the Army-Air Force of WWII where he received the Purple Heart. Mr. DuBose was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Church in Hayesville.

Surviving Mr. DuBose are his loving wife, Deanna Green DuBose of Hayesville, Many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Friday Sept. 30, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Church in Hayesville with Father John Rice officiating. Interment will follow in the Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to The House Raising Volunteers of Clay and Cherokee Counties or to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Church in Mr. DuBose’s memory.

MARY JANE JOHNSTON

Mrs. Mary Jane Johnston age 85 of Booger Hollow Rd. Blairsville passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Johnston was born on July 7, 1920 in St. Petersburg, FL, The daughter of the late Okey Russell Albright and the late Ada Viola Hoover Albright. Before her retirement she was employed with Rite-Aid Pharmacy of Blairsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam N. Johnston in 1983, and also a brother, Russell George Albright. She had made her home in Blairsville since 1983.Mrs.Johnston was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church of Blairsville.

Surviving Mrs. Johnston are two daughters, Virginia Woodside Boemanns of Blairsville, Coletta Woodside Markey of St. Petersburg, FL, one step son Skip Johnston of Sugar Tree, TN., Fiance’, Harold Kieley of Blairsville, Ten Grandchildren, sixteen Great Grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A private memorial service was held for friends and family. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite charity in Mrs. Johnston’s memory.

HENRY GRADY ABERCROMBIE

Mr. Henry Grady Abercrombie age 98 of Bonnie Lane Blairsville passed away on Saturday April 21, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following a brief illness. Mr. Abercrombie was born on Jan.24, 1909 in Fannin County, the son of the late Albert and Josie Wright Abercrombie. He was a lifelong resident of Union, Fannin Counties and Polk County, TN. He retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company after several years of service. He played many musical instruments, but his favorite was the fiddle, banjo and harmonica. He was the Guest on the Grand Ole Opry several times and played with Bill and Charlie Monroe, Earl Flatts and Lester Scruggs and the Cater Sisters, just to name a few. His favorite past time was Fox Hunting, which he started at the age of seven. Grady, Loved life, his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, fishing and the great outdoors. He was preceded in death by his wife. Minnie Chambers Abercrombie, a grandson, Jackie ( Butch) Abercrombie, brothers and sisters, Bascomb Abercrombie, Dawson, Hobert and Claude Wright, Reba Davenport, Lula Patterson, Fairy Parris and Bonnie Abercrombie. Mr. Abercrombie was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Abercrombie are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jackie and Helen Abercrombie of Blairsville, Jimmy Abercrombie of Blairsville, Six grandchildren, Jimmy Lynn and Steve Abercrombie, Candy Colwell, Melissa Tanner, Natha Rivers and Robby Abercrombie, thirteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday April 23, 2007 at 11:00am from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Cotton Harris, Rev. Vernon Davenport and Rev. Floyd Thomas officiating. A Eulogy will be given by his son, Jackie. Special music will be presented the Bethlehem Church Choir. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Robby, Jimmy Lynn, Steve, Aaron and Daniel Abercrombie and Robby Rivers. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4-9pm.
