Charles Milton “Buddy” Fowler

Mr. Charles Milton “Buddy” Fowler, age 89, of Wilmar Circle, Blairsville passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was born November 6, 1923 in Atlanta, GA to the late Paul and Ethel Fowler. Buddy moved to this area 11 years ago from Hiram, GA. He loved fishing and working on lawn mowers. He was preceded in death by his wife Vina Lee Fowler in 1987, step-daughter, Carolyn Marie Brewer, sisters, Ruth Weddle, Esther Qualls and Judy Weddle. Buddy was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include sister, Ellen Dupree of Canton, GA, extended family members, Kenneth and Debbie George, Ronnie and Donna Brewer, Jeannie Brewer, Tiffany Brewer, Caine Brewer all of Blairsville, GA, Carol Ann Tromp of Texas, Donna Duggins and Jeannie Moore both of N.C., Tonya Brewer, Eugene Brewer, LeAnn Brewer, Keith Brewer, Michael and Bradley Brewer, Davida Tucker, Holly Swaim, Rebecca Helms, Allan Helms, Brandon Brewer, Brand Renald, Doyle Brewer, Lee George, Wendy Voyles, Crystal George, Josh George, James Brewer, Sky Christian.

Memorial services will be held at a later date with Rev. Jerry Johnston officiating.

WINSTON FRANCIS HILL

US Air Force Vietnam

Mr. Winston Francis Hill, age 68, of Blairsville, formerly of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in the Fannin Regional Hospital. Mr. Hill was born on October 6, 1942 in Corning, NY, son of the late Francis Hill and the late Ruby Willow Hill. He was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Winston enjoyed bowling and amateur radio. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

Mr. Hill is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Gail Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rob and Amy Walters of Ellijay and Mike and Jenny Hill of Atlanta; one granddaughter, Katlin Hill of Atlanta; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilson and Jackie Hill of Ohio, Ron and Mary Hill of New York, and Eric and Linda Hill of Ohio.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 4:00pm at the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Terry Stuart officiating. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 3:30-4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Bowlers Veterans Link, c/o Claudia Harrison, PO Box 596, Sautee, GA 30571 or to Homeward Bound Pet Rescue Inc., PO Box 792, Ellijay, GA 30540.

CONNIE LOU GILSTRAP

Mrs. Connie Lou Gilstrap age 61 of Bunker Hill Rd. Blairsville and formerly of Lakeland, FL. passed away on Monday July 4, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Gilstrap was born on Nov. 30, 1949 in Wayne, W.VA, the daughter of the late Robert Lee Adkins Jr. and the late Doris Maxine Pruitt Adkins. Connie enjoyed cake decorating, gardening and painting. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Adkins in 2008. Mrs. Gilstrap was a member of the Blairsville Christian Center.

Surviving Mrs. Gilstrap are her loving husband of twenty three years, Paul Gilstrap of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Becky Leavens of Blairsville, Richard and Cassie Leavens of Lakeland, FL, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Cathy Edwards, Vangie and William Gill all of Lakeland, FL, eight grandchildren, Chris Dolbear, J.J., Triston and Broxston Burkey, Mitchell and Megan Alissa Leavens, Amy and Chris Graham, one great grandchild, McKinzie Harper, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday July 7, 2011 at 1:00pm from the Greenwood Cemetery in Panama City, FL. with the Rev. Billy Joe Melvin officiating. The family will meet with friends at the graveside from 12:30-1:00pm. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will meet with friends at the Mountain View Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm.

BRIAN KEITH EDMONDS

Brian Keith Edmonds, age 40, of Rocky RD Blairsville, GA, formerly of Michigan, passed away at his residence on Monday, July 4, 2011.Brian was born March 30, 1971 in Kalamazoo, MI., the son of Catherine Edmonds and the late Carl Rexrode. Brian was of the Christian faith.

Brian is survived by his mother, Catherine Edmonds of Hartford, MI; special friend, Shelly Lhotka of Blairsville, GA; brothers, Peter Aranda of Kalamazoo, MI, Jose Ontiveros of Loreta, PA, Mark Ontiveros of Stevensville, MI and MiGuel Ontiveros of Hartford, MI; sisters, Maria Bailey of Coloma, MI and Teresa Collins of Hartford, MI.

A memorial service for Brian will be held at a later date in Michigan. Flowers are accepted and may be sent to Catherine Edmonds, 502 Linden Hartford, MI. 49057 in memory of Brian.

CLIPPERT LEO CARRIER

US Army Vietnam

Mr. Clippert Leo Carrier age 73 of Stonebrook Circle Blairsville passed away on Wednesday July 6, 2011 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr.Carrier was born on April 26, 2011 in Mt. Clemons, MI., the son of the late Joseph Carrier and the late Addie Rosco Carrier. He retired from the US Army as a Flight Operations Specialist with over twenty years of service and had served in the Vietnam War. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his Ex wife, Ruth Robbins and a daughter, Diana Miller Carrier both in 2009 and also a sister, Shirley Willemburg. Mr. Carrier was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Carrier are his loving wife of thirty years, Jeannie Carrier of Blairsville, three daughters and two sons-in-laws, Yvonne and Michael Penrod of Owosso, MI., Tammie and Ronald DuQuette of New Baltimore, MI., Debbie Carrier of Owosso, MI., one sister, Sharon Carrier of MI., seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held in Holly, MI. with interment and Military Honors in the Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Cast-A-Way Critters or to the Union County Humane Society in memory of Mr. Carrier.

Robert “Bob” Henry Little

Mr. Robert “Bob” Henry Little, age 88, of Blairsville passed away June 23, 2013 at North East Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Little was born March 25, 1925 in Bronx, New York. He was an active member and church leader of Coosa United Methodist Church for many years.

Mr. Little was a World War II veteran, having seen action in the Pacific Theatre of Operations with the 130th Naval Construction Battalion. He was a member of the Blairsville VFW Post 7394.

Survivors are his wife, Irene of Blairsville, daughter, Kathryn and Jeff Cox of Rollins, Montana, sister, Anita Jaffe and four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be held at Coosa United Methodist Church on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Roy Watkins and Rev. Earl Bishop officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Coosa United Methodist Church “Little White Church” in memory of Bob Little.

James B. Lichtenberger

Mr. James B. Lichtenberger, age 89, of Redds Lane, Blairsville passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born September3, 1923 in Mansfield, OH to the late Frank J. and Hazel (Bacon) Lichtenberger. He had lived here for the past 10 years coming here from Palm Coast, FL. Mr. Lichtenberger was a retired U.S.M.C. Major. He was a member of the VFW, Marine Corps Assocation, Chosin Few, 1st Marine Division Association and Military Officers Association of America. Mr. Lichtenberger was of the Christian Faith.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Beverly Lichtenberger of Blairsville, GA, children, Glen B. Lichtenberger of Geneva, OH, Rae and Alan Breed of Mineral Bluff, GA and Jim E. and Natalia Lichtenberger of Mobile, AL, two nieces, Pamm Mosey and Jana Tep.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers make memorial donations to the Wounded Warriors.

Philip Lee Clapp

Philip Lee Clapp passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Blairsville, GA. Prior to moving to Blairsville, Lee resided in Montgomery, AL for 30 years. He was born in Asheville, NC on November 15, 1942. He is the son of the late Dr. Hubert Lee and Celeste Knoefel Clapp from Swannanoa, NC.

Lee was a graduate of the University of North Carolina and the School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He retired in 2010 after a successful banking career at Regions Bank and Servis First Bank in Montgomery.

Lee’s love for the outdoors began with the Boy Scouts where he earned the highest rank as an Eagle Scout. Lee shared his love for backpacking, hiking and camping with his wife, family and friends.

Lee was a member of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church where he ushered and served on the Board of Stewards. A man of great faith, Lee participated in the Walk to Emmaus, a spiritual journey for Christian leaders.

Lee was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather and will be remembered by family and friends for his integrity, loyalty and dedication.

Lee is survived by his wife of 31 years, Pamela Holland Clapp; his children Alison Clapp White (Walt), Tuscaloosa, AL; Philip Talbot Clapp, Swannanoa, NC; and Michael Shane Sweatt (Hope), Lexington, SC; grandchildren Philip Tyler Clapp, Swannanoa, NC, Callie Grace, Tate, John Pearson and Wilson Sweatt, Lexington, SC; sister Carolyn Clapp McRary (John), Asheville, NC; twin brother Dr. Hubert Bruce Clapp (Bernie), Winston-Salem, NC and sisters-in-law Charlotte Pipkin (Donnie), Cochran, Ga; Gina Holland (Mike), Maryville, TN.

The family will receive friends beginning at noon on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama followed by a celebration of Lee’s life at 2:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Swannanoa, 372 Bee Tree Road, Swannanoa, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy at P.O. Box 807, Harper's Ferry, WV 25425 or to a favorite charity.
