NORMA JEAN COOPER

Mrs. Norma Jean Cooper age 70 of Cooper’s Lane Morganton, GA. passed away on Friday May 12, 2006 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Cooper was born on April 23, 1936 in Charleston, WV, The daughter of the late Wilmer McCallister and the late Mae Wells McCallister. She loved to work around the house with her grandchildren. One of her favorite past times was rock collecting. She and her husband Earnest sang together at Confidence Methodist church where they attended.

Surviving Mrs. Cooper are her loving husband of twenty eight years, Earnest Cooper of Morganton, three daughters and one son in law, Regina Armstrong of Charleston, W. VA, Ronda Skiles of Dunbar, WV, Rochelle and Charles Harvey of Edgewood, NM, one brother and sister in law, Frank and Harriet McCallister of Scottsdale, AZ, five grandchildren, Jennifer and Justin Stiles, Allison Zerkle, Ryan Harvey and Aaron Austin, one great grandson, Peyton Skiles, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 17, 2006 at 10:00am from the Collison funeral home chapel with the Rev. Willis Scott officiating. The family will have a private visitation on Tuesday evening and a public visitation on Wednesday morning prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Florida National cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

FAYE FRANSTEINE LANIER

Mrs. Faye Fransteine Lanier age 66 of Tanyard Court Blairsville formerly of Vidalia, GA. passed away on Saturday Oct.15, 2005 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Lanier was born on Nov.7, 1938 in Vidalia, GA, The daughter of the late Bennie Winge and the late Aileen Allen Winge. Mrs. Lanier was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Lanier are two sons and one daughter in law, Billy Griffin of Baxley, GA, Phillip and Garrien Lanier of Blairsville, one daughter, Kimberly Seeba of Jacksonville, FL, one brother, Bennie H. Winge of Jacksonville, FL, three sisters, Diane Mills, Darlene Thigpen and Jackie McCall all of Lyons, GA, five grandchildren, Ashtin, William II, Kimberly, Trevor and Amber, Four great-grandchildren, Adrian, Marty, Peggy and Priscilla, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday Oct.23, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the Harmony Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Harmony Grove Baptist church or to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Lanier’s memory.

LAURA CHRISTINE PAYTON

Mrs. Laura Christian Payton age 35 of Evan circle Blairsville formerly of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Monday Oct.17, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Payton was born on Aug.14, 1970 in West Palm Beach. FL, The daughter of Douglas Alan Dowdy and Sara Adkins Dowdy. Laura battled Diabetes for twenty six years and after a Kidney and Pancreas transplant on Aug.20, 1997 she gave birth to a son on Aug.20, 1999 who was named after the doctor who performed the operation. She was employed as a Teacher with the Gilmer County Board of Education. Mrs. Payton was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Payton are her loving husband of seven years, Thomas Andrew Payton of Blairsville, one son, Zachary Burke Payton of Blairsville, Parents, Doug and Sara Dowdy of Blairsville, one brother and sister in law, Eric and Jennifer Dowdy of Blairsville, one sister, Susanne Dowdy of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday Oct.22, 2005 at 3:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. George Cline officiating. Special music will be provided by Patsy Davenport, Tammy Blassingame, Danita, Michael and Josh Kennedy. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Eric Dowdy, Earl Dowdy, Christopher Orsberg, Tim Grader, Steve Drake and Stanley Stepp. Interment will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to the Zachery Payton Education fund at United Community Bank.

WAYNE RICHARD HUNSICKER Sr.

Mr. Wayne Richard Hunsicker age 66 of Mtn. View Rd. Murphy formerly of Blairsville passed away on Thursday Oct.20, 2005 in the Murphy Medical Center Nursing home following an extended illness. Mr. Hunsicker was born on March 26, 1939 in Allentown, PA, The son of the late Nathan Joseph Hunsicker and the late Eva Clara bell Shellhammer Hunsicker. Mr. Hunsicker was a veteran of the US Army. He was a PGA Pro member for over ten years and also was a Golf Pro Instructor. He also was owner/operator of an automobile dealership. Mr. Hunsicker was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Hunsicker are two daughters, Claire Hunsicker of Tarpon Springs, FL, GA, Lisa Ann Hunsicker Lawrenceville, one son and daughter in law, Wayne and Erin Walton of Locust Grove, GA, two sisters, Joanne Heckman of Calloway, NJ, Lavern Cowling of Bethlehem, PA, ten Grandchildren, Three Great-Grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to a local animal shelter of Humane Society in Mr. Hunsicker’s memory.

ROBERT DEAR

Mr. Robert Dear age 72 of Blairsville, GA, passed away on Friday Oct.28, 2005 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Dear was born on March 27, 1933 in Red Bank, NJ., The son son of the late Herbert Dear and the late Helen Schoellner Dear (Cowden).

Surviving Mr. Dear are his loving wife, Hilary Dear of Blairsville, daughter, Lisa Dear of Blairsville, son and daughter in law, Norman and Linda Dear of Blairsville, Son and daughter in law, Wayne and Kristen Dear of Strafford, VT., daughter, Nancy Sutton of Sylacauga, AL., granddaughter, Katie Jo Dear of White River Junction, VT., and many other close and dear friends also survive.

A man of quiet dignity and grace, Bob always had a kind word, gentle counsel, helping hand and generous heart to all. He was well loved and respected and he will be missed greatly.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to Georgia Mountain Hospice, PO Box 580, Jasper, GA.30143 in Mr. Dear’s memory.

JOHN BRETT HAWKINS

Mr. John Brett Hawkins age 23 of Murphy Hwy Mineral Bluff, GA. passed away on Friday March 16, 2007 at his home following a sudden illness. Mr. Hawkins was born on July 17, 1983 in Clay County, NC, the son of Kathy Diane Dyer Hawkins and Ira Ray Hawkins. He was a lifelong resident of the Mineral Bluff area. Mr. Hawkins attended the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mr. Hawkins are his mother, Kathy Dyer Hawkins of Hayesville, NC, father, Ira Ray Hawkins and fiancée, Leigh Anne Gatta of Mineral Bluff, two brothers and sister in laws, Jared and Heather Hawkins of Murphy, Jathan and Casey Hawkins of Copperhill, half brother and sister in law, Brandon and Amanda Davis, half sister, Stacy Davis, aunts and uncles, Sandra and Lee Chitwood of Blairsville, Glenda and Ricky Rice of Mineral Bluff, Kyle Hawkins of Mineral Bluff, nephew, Johnny Zane Hawkins, niece, Cameron Hawkins, cousins, Jason Rich, Mary Alexa Rice, Tiffany Chitwood, several extended cousins, uncles and aunts, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 20, 2007 at 7:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hadley Shields officiating. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-7pm.

CLARENCE FITZPATRICK

Mr. Clarence E. Fitzpatrick of McCombs Rd., Blairsville passed away on Monday March 19, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 22, 2007.Burial will follow in the Oconee Memorial Park Cemetery in Watkinsville, GA.

PARIS D. HANDY

US Army Korean War

Mr. Paris D. Handy age 80 of Crane Creek Young Harris, GA. passed away on Tuesday March 20, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Handy was born on Dec.15, 1926 in Towns County, the son of the late Lloyd R. Handy and the late Ethel I. Hooper Handy. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean War. Paris was an old car enthusiast. He also loved nature and enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva H. Kuykendall. Mr. Handy was a member of West Union Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Handy are his loving wife of fifty two years, Dorothy May Miller Handy of Young Harris, one daughter and son in law, Danita and Paul Janson of Maryville, TN., three sons and two daughter in laws, Dennis Handy of Young Harris, Donn and Stephany Handy of Ashville, NC, Mark and Robin Handy of Young Harris, one brother and sister in law, Hubert and Oleta Handy of Young Harris, five grandchildren, Tayha, Stephen, Cody, Cary and Lloyd, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday March 23, 2007 at 11:00am from the Old Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Sutton and Pastor Mark Handy officiating. Special music will be presented by Terry Hooper. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, David Kuykendall, Dennis Handy, Donn Handy, Mark Handy, Russ Cain and Stephen Janson. The following gentleman will serve as honorary pallbearers, Bill Homan, Max Hooper and James Howell. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that you may plant a tree or commit a random act of kindness in Mr. Handy’s memory. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the North Ga. Honor Guard conducting Military Honors.

DOROTHY ANN HAUKOM

Mrs. Dorothy Ann Haukom age 61 of Walnut Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday March 23, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Haukom was born on Aug. 8, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of the late David Arnold and the late Mary Ann Zane. She had moved to Blairsville about seven years ago from Auburndale, FL. Dorothy was her sister Donna’s best friend. She will be not only missed by Donna, but by her whole family, and also, by all who knew her. Mrs. Haukom was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Haukom are two sons and one daughter in law, Todd Haukom of Upland, CA, Steven and Anna Haukom of New Port Beach, FL, one daughter and son in law, Nicole and Curtis Castro of Whittier, CA, one sister, Donna Hammond of Blairsville, Niece, Dana, and her husband B. J. Clark of Blairsville, great nephews, Dustin and Cody Meeker of Blairsville, as well as several other nieces and nephews in Florida. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Union County Nursing Home in Mrs. Haukom’s memory.
