GEORGE EBERHARD HERZOG

Mr. George Eberhard Herzog, age 78, of Wilmar Circle Blairsville passed away on Friday Aug. 5, 2011 in the Erlanger Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Herzog was born on April 3, 1933 in Bamberg, Germany, the son of the late Maxi Herzog and the late Gunda Czicalla Herzog. George trained in Germany as a Master Chef and furthered his education in Switzerland before attending the Culinary Institute in New Haven, CT where he continued his membership until his death. He was preceded in death by his son, Dieter Herzog in 1998. George was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a very generous man who loved everyone and enjoyed his life and retirement in the North GA Mountains. He was a member of the Chatuge Gun Club and the American Culinary Federation. Mr. Herzog was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Herzog are his loving wife of forty eight years, Gerda Hofmann Herzog of Blairsville, daughter, Cordelia Herzog of Long Island, NY, son, Thomas Herzog of Pensacola, FL, daughter and son-in-law, Natasha and Walter Zublionis of Port Jefferson, sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxi and Kurt Haenle of Germany, Gertrude and Fred Tuccillo of Trenton, NJ, Mellitta Coon of Ronconcos Woods, NJ, brothers and sisters-in-law, Rudolf and Inge Herzog of Germany, Dieter and Gunda Herzog of Germany and Guether Herzog of Germany, sister-in-law, Maria and Philip Gamache of Blairsville, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Aug. 9, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Mountain View Chapel with Father Liam officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Philip Gamache, Tom Herzog, Walter Zublionis, Frank Meyer, James Meyer, Robert Meyer and Jerre Brisky. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8pm.

JONATHAN NATHANIEL PARHAM Jr.

Mr. Jonathan Nathaniel " Johnny" Parham, age 40, of Fern Valley Lane, Blairsville passed away Sunday, August 7, at his residence. Mr. Parham was born on January 7, in Atlanta, GA. He was employed as a plumber. He moved here 7 years ago from Atlanta, GA. Jonathan was a loving person and had a heart of gold. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and was a friend to many. Jonathan attended Zebulon Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Parham are his loving wife of twenty years, Shanna Parham of Blairsville, GA, father and step-mother, Jonathan and Tina Parham, Sr. of Dublin, GA, mother, Joyce Meron of Atlanta, GA, daughter, Tamara Parham and her fiancé, Mitch Rose of Blairsville, GA, son, Storm Parham of Blairsville, GA, brother and sister-in-law, Shane and Patsy Parham of Monticello, GA, sisters and brother-in-law, Jenny Parham of Dublin, GA and Kelly and Josh Coleman of Dublin, GA, and grandson, Dominic Rose of Blairsville, GA. many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. R. L. Martin officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Mitch Rose, Timmothy Mulinax, Joey Nasworthy, Keaton Miller, Storm Parham, Brian Sherman and Jeremy Lanning. Interment will follow in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday anytime after 10:00 am.

GARNET AUTHOR HUGHES

Mr. Garnet Arthur Hughes, age 90, of Rippling Branch Lane, Murphy, NC passed away, Monday August 8, 2011 at Valley View Health Care after a period of declining health. Mr. Hughes was born, May 6, 1921, in Cherokee County a son of the late Samuel Fate and Vannar (Ledford) Hughes. Garnet was known as Speedy on the Radio Party Line and enjoyed working on lawn mowers. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Vernal, Almond and Ervin Hughes and a sister, Ruby Amos, and his wife Maudi Hughes. Garnet was a Member of Notla Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Hughes are two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jewell Payne of Andrews, NC, Pricillia and James Hill of Chatsworth, GA, one son and daughter-in-law, Willard and Patricia Hughes of Murphy, NC, grandchildren, Lisa Davis Murphy, Tammy and Jerry Luther, Pamela and Keith Rose, Ted and Misty Kimbrell, Sandra and Mark Burger, Sherry and Lee Deal, Greg Hughes and Jason Hughes, step-grandchildren, Sean Alder, Seth Alder and Shem Alder, twenty-three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home with Rev. Avery Beavers and Rev. Hoyt Brown officiating. Music will be by Edward Vest. Pallbearers will be Lee Deal, Ted Kimbrell, Jason Hughes, Greg Hughes, Keith Rose and Max Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brian Kent, Steve Johnson and Evan Hughes. Interment will follow in Notla Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.

DANA NICHOLS McDOWALL

Mrs. Dana Nichols McDowall age 89 of Rich Gap Rd. Blairsville passed away on Saturday Sept. 4, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs. McDowall was born on Feb. 13, 1921 in Jackson, MS., the daughter of the late Harrod Allen Nichols and the late Lilla Dorsey Nichols. She had been living in Blairsville since 1999 having moved from Lawrenceville, GA. Mrs. McDowall was a member of the GoldStar Mothers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very active in PTA and her church. Her Son, Francis McDowall Jr. and a brother, Harrod Allen Nichols Jr. preceded her in death. Mrs. McDowall was a member of the Mountain Presbyterian Church of Blairsville.

Surviving Mrs. McDowall are her loving husband, Francis McDowall of Blairsville, four daughters and three sons-in-law, Catherine and Glen Henderson of Blairsville, Susan and Robert Dinwiddie of Monroe, GA, Elizabeth and Jim Belcher of Greer, SC., Lucy Wright McDowall of Blairsville. seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Sept. 25, 2010 at 11:00am from the Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Travis Adams officiating. Flowers will be appreciated. Those desiring may send contributions to the Mountain Presbyterian Church of Blairsville or to the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church in memory of Mrs. McDowall.

KENNETH (KENNY) RAY HENSON

Kenny "Rooster" Ray Henson age 11 of Meadow View Drive Blairsville passed away on Saturday Sept. 11, 2010 in Gilmer County following injuries received in an automobile accident. Kenny was born on Jan.27, 1999 in Marietta, GA, the son of Alan Harold Henson and Cheli Angeline Stewart Henson. He was attending the Union County School System and was in the 6th grade. He was a member of the Flag Honor Guard at school. Kenny was a loving son, brother and grandson. He was always well organized, polite and had a smile for everyone. Football was one of Kenny’s passions, a few of the others were riding motorcycles, four wheelers and being with his friends and family. He lost his grandmother, Margie Millholland Henson of Ellijay and formerly of McCayesville in the accident also. Kenny was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving Kenny are his mother and step father, Cheli and Mark Collins of Morganton, his father, Alan Henson of Ellijay, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Brittany and Adam Davis of Jacksonville, FL, Morgan Collins of Morganton, one brother, Larry Henson of Ellijay, step sister and brother-in-law, Abbey and Justin Benz of Carthage, NC, grandparents, Larry and Myra Stewart of Dallas, GA, James and Jerri Haithcock of Carthage, NC, Roy and Mary Collins of West End, NC, several aunts, uncles, classmates, team mates, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Sept. 15, 2010 at 1:00pm from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Weaver officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Ricky Tanner, William Stone, Chad Winkler and Jeff Moon. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kenny’s Team Mates and his many friends. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm.

KENNETH GEORGE GIBSON

US Army

Mr. Kenneth George Gibson age 66 of Silver Maple Lane Murphy passed away on Monday September 13, 2010 in the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Gibson was born on December 2, 1943 in Detroit, MI., the son of the late William Robert Gibson and the late June Elizabeth Holt Gibson. He was a veteran of the US Army. Kenneth enjoyed hiking, walking and being outdoors. He was a loving father, brother and was a friend to many. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert W. and Michael H. Gibson. Kenneth was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Kenneth are three children, Michele, David and Kenny Gibson, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Richard Gibson of Murphy, Billy and Marina Gibson of Canton, MI., three sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Sam Giordano of Flat Rock, MI., Nancy and Michael Heikila of River View, MI., Carol and Tim Skledanik of Wyandotte, MI., many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Gibson.

KATHRYN MURIEL JEFFERSON

Mrs. Kathryn Muriel Jefferson age 102 of Anchorage Drive Blairsville formerly of Baltimore, MD. passed away peacefully on Thursday Sept. 16, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Jefferson was born on Feb. 2, 1908 in Bel Air, MD., the daughter of the late Carrol Croswell and the late Kathryn Webber Croswell. She was very active in her church and had Sunday School for over thirty five years at St. Johns of Hamilton, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elsworth Layfield Jefferson in 1969 and also by five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Jefferson was a member of the House of Prayer and also attended Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Jefferson are one son and daughter-in-law, Layfield (Jeff) and Pamela Jefferson of Hiawassee, one daughter, Joan Beth Tuthill of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Keith and Shirley Jefferson of Jacksonville, FL, Julie and Ron McFillin of Bel Air, MD., Scott and Joyce Jefferson of Bel Air, MD., Rick Spector of Tampa, FL, four great grandchildren, Andrew, Emily and Tina Jefferson and Abi Gail McFillin, one great-great grandchild, Quinn Lynea Morgan, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date from the House of Prayer and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Gideon’s(for Bibles) or the House of Prayer or to Antioch Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Jefferson.

Thomas J. Argay

Mr. Thomas J. Argay, age 74, of Craig Thompson RD, Blairsville passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 at his home on Thursday, February 7, 2013 following and extended illness. He was born September 22, 1938 in Queens, NY to the late Louis and Mary Quinn Argay. Mr. Argay graduated from Sayville High School on Long Island. Mr. Argay joined the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years, and was in Beirut, Lebanon. He was a member of the VFW. He worked at Republic Airlines Avaition on Long Island and General Motors. He moved to Punta Gorda, FL and worked as a concrete finisher. Mr. Argay then worked for Winn-Dixie where he retired in 2002. He then moved to Blairsville, GA where he enjoyed making many new friends, fishing and the beautiful scenery. He attended the First Free Will church in Hayesville.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Argay of the home, children, Suzanne and Mark Cecci of Blairsville, John and Beth Argay of Venice, FL and Peter and Rebecca Argay of Lagrange, GA, brother, George Argay of NY, sister-in-law, Susan Kizziah, of TN, grandchildren, Mark Cecci, Jr., Elizabeth Cecci and Michael Argay.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Rumfeldt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee.
