Allen Piscikas

Mr. Allen Piscikas, age 93, of Wesley Mtn. Dr., Blairsville, passed away, Monday, April 15, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Lithuania, on May 17, 1920 to the late Michael and Elena Linkus Piscikas. He moved to this area in 2008 from Freeport, IL. Mr. Piscikas was a loving husband, father, grandfather and loved fishing, working, camping ant the outdoors. He had served as a Merchant Marine for 10 years. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons in Stockton, IL for 50 years. Mr. Piscikas was of the Protestant Faith.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Annabelle Piscikas of Blairsville, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Sandra K. and Bill McCarthy of Hiawassee, GA, grandchildren, Brandon Alan Cole and Zachary Daniel Scott Mouzakis, great grandchild, Kendall Ann Summer Mouzakis.

No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers make memorial donations to the Masonic Home.

Thomas G. Evans

Mr. Thomas G. Evans, age 76, of Birlie Deyton Dr., Blairsville passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 at his home following a brief illness. He was born July 9, 1936 in Dawsonville, GA to the late Arthur Thomas and Cindy Anderson Evans. He moved here in 1995 from Gainesville, GA. Tommy loved Gospel Music and sang with a Gospel Group for several years. He was a great and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Tommy’s hobby was mowing grass. He was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Evans. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Myrtle Evans of Blairsville, children, Wesley Evans of Gainesville, GA, Joey Evans of Alabama, Jimmy Michael and Kathryn Coker of Lula, GA, Susan Denise and Michael Arvold of Winder, GA, Janet Leigh and Dean Skinner of Cumming, GA and Patsy Naomi and John Propst of Blairsville, GA, sisters, Irene Evans Gaddis and Christine Evans Jones both of Gainesville, GA, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, and his beloved Boston Terrier, April Naomi.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Waymon Lovell and Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Music will be by special friend Terry Skelton. Pallbearers will be Justin Jones, Casey Jones, Shane Coker, Kenneth Deyton, Bobby Deyton and Ronald Deyton. Interment will follow in Union Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.

G. Perry Leishear

G. Perry Leishear, age 66, of Nantahala Ln., Blairsville, GA passed away at his home Saturday, April 20, 2013 following an extended illness. He was born October 5, 1946 in Washington, DC to the late Samuel Wendall and Betty Williams Leishear. Perry moved here in 2006 from Ft. Myers, FL. He was a retired Deputy Sheriff from Lee County, FL. Perry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was of the Lutheran Faith.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Kathy Leishear of Blairsville, children, Christopher Leishear of Maryland, April Lee Leishear of Lake Worth, FL, and Amanda Leigh Gaddy of Blairsville, sister, Barbara Julian of Maryland, sisters-in-law, Debbie Barnes and Barbara Neal both of Del Ray Beach, FL, one granddaughter, Skyler Rebecca Gaddy.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorial donations in Perry’s memory to a Hospice of your choice.

Mary Ann Ball

Mrs. Mary Ann Ball, age 76, of Raburn RD, Blairsville passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Presbyterian Village in Austell, GA. She was born April 8, 1937 in Blairsville to the late Clarence and Metta Mahaffey Payne. Mrs. Ball was born and grew up here and moved back in 1993 from Atlanta, GA. She was very active in Relay for Life, and a very active volunteer for many organizations. She was always willing to be a helping hand. Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ball in 2010. She was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sister, Dawn and Knox Dayton of Hiram, GA, brother, Clarence B. (Buddy) Payne, Jr. of Blairsville, cousin, Mary Ruth Queen Kirkland of Blairsville.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Bishop officiating. Music will be by Idalu Bishop. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Interment will follow in the Payne Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

John Lexie Evans

Mr. John Lexie Evans, age 73, of Gumlog Circle, Blairsville passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA following an extended illness. John was born December 18, 1938 in Winter Haven, FL son of the late Willard and Ida Harvey Evans. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Standard Telephone Company in 1998. John was a Blue Grass music fan, and loved Bass fishing and Golf. He was a member of Young Cane Masonic Lodge # 597 F&AM. John was preceded in death by a sister, Reba Ann McMillan in 1973. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors are his wife of 48 years, Shirley Evans of Blairsville, son John Lexie Evans, Jr. of Athens, GA, brothers, Thomas and Hedie Evans of Sylvania, GA, Leon and Devona Evans of Warthen, GA and Terrell and Debbie Evans of Statesboro, GA, sister, Judy Burke of Sylvania, GA, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Young Cane Masonic Lodge with Chaplain Junior Graham officiating. Music will be by Forgiven. In lieu of flowers make memorials to Young Cane Masonic Lodge. The family will receive friends at the Lodge on Saturday from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

REBECCA LAMB CONKLE

Mrs. Rebecca Lamb Conkle age 72 of Emerine Rd. Blairsville passed away on Friday August 31, 2012 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Conkle was born on Feb. 12, 1940 in Jackson, MS., the daughter of the late Clifton Glenwood Lamb and the late Mary Stowell Lamb. Rebecca received her Undergraduate Degree in music education/ voice major from Murray State and a Graduate degree in Special Education from Auburn University. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Mrs. Conkle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blairsville.

Surviving Rebecca are her loving husband of twenty four years, John Conkle of Blairsville, six children, Cecil and Kimely Conkle of Redwood City, CA, David and Deborah Conkle of Mobile, AL., Susan Furgus of Haltom City, TX, Ruth and Barry Klukoff-Hamilton of St. Petersburg, FL, Barabara Crook of Durham, NC, Will Crook of Sylacauga, AL., three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William and Marilyn Lamb of Portland, OR., Clifton and Nancy Lamb of Indio, CA, Herb Lamb of Marshall, NC, eight grandchildren, Sarah, Brooks, Hannah, George, Jacob, Noah, Mason and Cade, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. Music will be by Jeff Bauman and Keith Defoor. Interment will follow in the Marble City Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Union County Senior Center in memory of Mrs. Conkle.

Jo Ann Leas Butler

Jo Ann Leas Butler of Blairsville went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2012 following an extended illness. Mrs. Butler was born November 25th 1934 in Mingo Jct. Ohio to the late John G. Leas and Dortha I. Doan Leas. Jo Ann was also preceded in death by her loving husband Ronald Coleman Butler, her son Steven Cole Butler and her brother John Dale Leas.

Mrs. Butler was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and nurse. She worked as a registered nurse for over thirty years specializing in pediatrics, newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care. She received her nursing degree from Aultman College in Canton Ohio. Jo Ann was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Blairsville, Ga.

Jo Ann is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Kelly and Jack Mazzaferro of Blairsville, Ga., a daughter and son-in-law Lori and Allen Humes of Boynton Beach, Fl., a daughter-in-law Patricia Butler of Tobyhanna Pa. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Avon Lee Lewis of Westerville, Ohio, a sister and brother-in-law Bonnie and Carroll Wyatt of Greenville, SC. Many other relatives and friends survive and Jo Ann will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Wesche officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Monday prior to the service.

Flowers will be accepted or in lieu of flowers donations in Jo Ann’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis Tn. www.stjude.org/ her favorite charity.

CHRISTIE DALE SMITH McCLURE

Mrs. Christie Dale Smith McClure age 33 of Booger Hollow Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday Sept. 3, 2012 following a brief illness. Mrs. McClure was born on Oct. 10, 1978 in Greenwood, SC., the daughter of Jewell Patricia Miller Smith and the late Leo Dale Smith Sr. Christie was a kind hearted and loving person who was always thinking of others. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother and sister. Christie was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving Christie are her loving husband, Ronald McClure of Griffin, GA, her mother, Patricia Fields, her dad, Jeffrey Fields of Blairsville, five children, Michael McClure of Blairsville, Austin, Christy and Kala Smith all of McDonough, GA, Trisha McClure of Griffin, GA, step son, Ronald McClure Jr. of Griffin, brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Dawn Smith of Blairsville, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Telissa and Matthew Wood of Eatonton, GA, Jessica Smith and fiancé Sammy Bryan of Blairsville, grandparents, Jewell and Henry Miller of Stockbridge, uncle, Richard Fields of Ellijay, nieces, Angel and Brittany Gochenour of Stockbridge, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. Special music will be presented by the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Praise team. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jeffrey and Richard Fields, Leo Smith, Patrick Stribbling, Ronald McClure Sr. Ronald McClure Jr. Kevin McClure and Eddie Farmsworth. Interment will follow in the Harmony Grove Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12-2:00 pm.
