Steven C. Allen, 61, of Alburnett died Monday Sept. 22, 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital after a long illness. Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after Noon on Saturday. Chaplain Jeremy Hudson will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Jan, his two daughters, Lisa Ken Chasten of Norwalk, Michele Dave Rico and a son, Robert Bonnie all of Des Moines, a step-son, Jeff Henderson of Dewitt, his mother, Varina, two sisters, Sandra Alan Lehman and Sharon Faux all of Arizona. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Steve was born on April 5, 1947 in Des Moines, the son of Jack and Varina Hedburg Allen. He married Janette L. Raymond on June 5, 1999 in Toddville. Steve was an engineering analyst at DAEC-FPL for over 17 years. He enjoyed bowling, golf, working and playing on his computer and especially the time spent with his family and friends. Steve was a wonderful husband, father, son and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Steve's name.

Robert E. Abernathy
Born in North English, IA on August 6, 1926
Departed on September 25, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Robert E. Abernathy, 82, of 962 Kerry Lane SE, died Thursday September 25, 2008 in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Jonathan Offt from Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Sunday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Park Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. at the chapel on Monday. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Betty, his children, Mary Abernathy of San Francisco, California, Ann Bockelman Tarryl of North Liberty, stepchildren, Terry Drexler Patti of Cedar Rapids, Debra Wernimont Robert of Cedar Rapids and Sonny Drexler of Denver, Colorado. Also surviving is 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Elizabeth"Betty".
Robert was born August 6, 1926 in North English, the son of Paul and Marie McLain Abernathy. He married Hazel Kathryn Hamilton in 1949 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1964. He then married Betty Moss on June 10, 1965 in Cedar Rapids. Robert was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 35 years and then worked for 20 years with Brookfield Uniform Company. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was active in the men's group, the school and the choir singing duet many times with Eldred Gerhold. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, working with jewelry and leather. He loved the outdoors partaking in fishing, camping and traveling. Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. Military Rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #788.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church.

Arylene M. Ashley
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on May 18, 1917
Departed on September 27, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Arylene M. Ashley, 91, of 1220 19th Ave. SW. died Saturday Sept. 27, 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital after a sudden illness. Graveside services at 11 AM on Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Per Arylene's request there will be no visitation. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Simmons of Cedar Rapids, a son, Thomas Ashley and his wife, Trish, of Portage, Michigan and a brother, Dr. Robert Anderson and his wife, Anna Mae, of Novato, California. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Stacey Ashley Sturgeon and husband, Monte, of Dallas, Texas, Sally Simmons and Molly Rodriguez of Cedar Rapids; five great grandchildren, Jordyn Sturgeon Brenon and husband Cody, of Pensacola, Florida, Chloe and Chase Sturgeon of Dallas, Texas, and Cruz and Chantz Rodriguez of Cedar Rapids; a great great grandson, Ryland Brenon; three nephews, Jim, David, and Mark Anderson all of California; one sister-in-law, Mildred Ashley of Cedar Rapids and Lucas Jones of West Des Moines., who was like a grandson to Arylene. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.
Arylene was born on May 18, 1917 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William and Ella Fisher Anderson. She married Harold M. Ashley on May 15, 1937 in Iowa City. He died in 1992. They celebrated 55 years of marriage. Arlene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a veracious reader and loved flowers. Arylene was a home mother and active with her children. She later worked at City National Bank and Peoples Savings Bank for several years. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice. Donald J. Aanestad
Born in Hartley, Iowa on October 15, 1933

Donald J. Aanestad, 74, of 2131 1st Ave. SE. died Friday Oct. 10, 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital after a long illness. Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Monday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Rev. Perry Fruhling and Rev. Nan Hirleman Trimpe will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium. Friends may call Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, a son Erik (Jane Ann) of Athens, Ohio, a daughter, Pamela ( Michael) Rosenberg of Cedar Rapids and a brother, David (Katherine) of Iowa City. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Elizabeth Rosenberg Smith, James and Adam Rosenberg and Hayley and Marshall Aanestad. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Stephen.
Don was born on Oct. 15, 1933 in Hartley, the son of Ralph and Helen Larson Aanestad. He graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island. Don married Carol L. Hyde on Aug. 29, 1954 in Ottumwa. He was a general insurance agent for Ohio National for 25 years, retiring in 1998.
Don was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Kiwanis Club, Elmcrest Country Club, the Cedar Rapids Life Underwriters Association, and the Estate Planning Council. He enjoyed time spent with his family, golf and proudly served in the Army during the Korean War.
Memorial donations may be given to the Eastern Iowa Alzheimer’s Association or to St. Mark’s Music Dept. in Don’s name.

Fairlene June Astor
Born in Arlington, IA on July 12, 1932
Departed on October 23, 2008. Resided in Marion, IA.

Fairlene J. Astor, 76, of Marion, died October 23, 2008 following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Noelridge Park Church. Rev. Richard Marsceau will officiate. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband Walter; sons Kurt H. Astor and wife Glenda of Colorado Springs, CO, and Brad C. Astor and wife Rhonda Vosdingh of Rockville, MD; grandchildren Derek, Justin, Alicia, Andrew, Jonathon, Jason, Luke, and Bethany; and one great grandson Kaleb.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Harold B. Cook.
Fairlene June Astor was born July 12, 1932 in Arlington, Iowa the daughter of Berton and Ruth (Hetzel) Cook. She was united in marriage to Walter J. Astor on December 21, 1952 in Arlington, Iowa. She was employed at K’s Merchandise as the Cash Room Manager, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Noelridge Park Church. She enjoyed playing piano, caring for her yard with her husband, and above all time spent with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all.

Mervyn Armstrong
Born in Baring, MO on December 19, 1913

Mervyn Armstrong, 94, of Mt. Vernon, died October 26, 2008 at Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM, on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Rev. Dr. Karen Downey Beals of Linn Grove Presbyterian Church will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Private Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Hanna; his children Regen Armstrong and wife Kathy of Chiloquin, OR, and Kristin Armstrong of Wayne, IL; his grand daughter Sarah Bromage and husband Art of Kirkland, WA; and a brother Austin Armstrong of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Marguerite.
Mervyn Armstrong was born December 19, 1913 in Baring, MO the son of Thomas and Alflosy (Matthews) Armstrong. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He was married to Marguerite on May 1, 1945, and she preceded him in death on March 17, 1994. He and Marguerite owned and operated their own farm for many years. Later, he married Ruth Hanna on November 16, 1996. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge # 12 A.F. & A.M., and the Linn Grove Presbyterian Church. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mervyn’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Donna M. Anderson
Born in Postville,Iowa on November 3, 1930
Departed on November 20, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Donna M. Anderson, 78, of the West Ridge Care Center died there on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 after an extended illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at First Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include three daughters, Vickie (Greg) Stolte of North Richland Hills, Texas, Karen (Ben) Long of Huntsville, Alabama, Julie (Scott) Vyskocil of Lincoln, Nebraska and a sister, Mildred Nation of Cheyenne, Wyoming. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Thad, Lauren, Andie, Ali, Katie and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters.
Donna was born on Nov. 3, 1930 in Postville, the daughter of Albert and Cora Rierson Thoresen. She married Theodore M. Anderson on May 10, 1953 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 2006. Donna was a nurse at St. Lukes Hospital and retired from there after many years of service. After retirement Donna volunteered at St. Lukes and worked at the Information Center at the Eastern Iowa Airport. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, TTT Chapter E Q, St. Luke’s Nurse’s Auxiliary, and the Elks Club. She enjoyed playing golf, her Boston Terriers and especially time spent with her beloved family. Memorial donations may be given to St. Lukes Hospital, St. Lukes Hospice, West Ridge Care Center or to First Lutheran Church in Donna’s name.

Florence V. Anderson
Born in Cresco, Iowa on December 27, 1907
Departed on January 15, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Florence V. Anderson, 101, of 3848 Mt. Vernon Rd. SE. died Thursday Jan. 15, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include her husband, Mervin, three sons, Tyrone Vick of Marion, Randall Vick of Faifax, Virginia and F.K. Vick of Iowa City. She is also survived by three sisters, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta.
Florence was born on Dec. 27, 1907 in Cresco, one of 15 children to Carl and Mabel Jewell Blomgren. She married Mervin Anderson on Feb. 17, 1963 in Cedar Rapids.
Florence was a homemaker and a member of First Lutheran Church. A memorial fund has been established in Florence’s name.
