Mary Allshouse, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Crestview Acres. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William Harnish. Interment: Mount Vernon Cemetery, Mount Vernon. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 9a.m. Thursday.
Survivors include husband, Gary; children, Debra (Steve) Hefflefinger and Jamie Luke, all of Cedar Rapids, Mike (Deb) Luke of Hiawatha, John (Marie) Luke of Central City, Tom Luke of Omaha, NE, and Andy Luke of LaPorte City; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Priscella Warren of Weatherford, TX.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Alma Nichols; and twin sister, Marilyn.
Mary was born April 3, 1933 in Cedar Rapids. She married Gary Allshouse in Mt. Vernon on December 1, 1973. Mary's passion was music and dancing. She also liked to fish, camp, and walk.
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Phillip Lynn Abodeely
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on August 1, 1950
Departed on August 2, 2010. Resided in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Phillip Lynn Abodeely, 60, of Las Vegas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died as a result of a bicycle accident. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at St. George Eastern Orthodox Church, 3650 Cottage Grove Avenue SE by the Rev. Fred Shaheen. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories from 4 to 7 pm. Friday with a Trisagion service beginning at 7 p.m.
Survivors include his siblings, Leslie Abodeely of Las Vegas, NV , Marina Jezzini of Las Vegas, and Jeffrey and wife Jessica Abodeely of Ft. Worth, TX; two nephews, Andre and Ethan; niece, Sophia; and first cousins, Nan, Dawayne, Ron, Floraine, Tammy, Renee, and George Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Phillip was born August 1, 1950 in Cedar Rapids to Eli and Fidelis Abodeely. He was the first person to graduate from Kennedy High School, Cedar Rapids and received a BS degree in mathematics from Mankato State University, Mankato, MN. He was ordained as a Sub-Deacon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Phil owned and operated many businesses with his brother Les, in Cedar Rapids, including Gatsby’s, and the Sip and Stir Lounge. He was a casino host, golfer, dancer, bicyclist, and a lover of life. He enjoyed playing cards and traveling extensively. He was an avid sports enthusiast and an Iowa Hawkeye fan. Phil was an active member of Siena Community in Las Vegas and frequently performed in the Drama Club and recently starred in the TV series “Pawn Stars”.
Phil was deeply admired by many loyal friends and an inspiration to many.
He especially loved the hugs and kisses from his niece and nephews.
Phil leaves us with these final words, “Live well, Love much and Laugh often….
Enjoy everyday to the fullest…God Bless.”
Memorials may be directed to the family to be equally shared by St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, Las Vegas, NV and St. George Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Bobby Lee Bemer
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on July 10, 1965

Bobby Lee Bemer, 44, of Toddville, IA died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Chaplain Paul Monska officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his mother, Janice Bemer of Toddville; Brother, Dennis Bemer of Palo; Nephew, Tanner Bemer of Minooka, IL; Numerous Aunts and Uncles and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Bemer in 2003, maternal and paternal grandparents.
Bobby Lee Bemer was born July 10, 1965 in Cedar Rapids the son of James & Janice (Goodall) Bemer. Bobby farmed in the Toddville area for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and especially loved his dogs.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Sam Kenneth Arnell
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA. on February 8, 1918
Departed on August 1, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Sam Kenneth Arnell, 85, 718 33rd St. NE died Friday August 1, 2003 at his home following a short illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Laura Smith of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church will officiate.
Survivors include three sons, Phillip Arnell and wife Connie, Kenneth Arnell and wife Sue, and Jimmy Arnell and wife Nancy all of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Judy Dort, Jane Hines, and Patty Jean Arnell all of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jean; and a son Richard.
Sam was born February 8, 1918 in Cedar Rapids the son of Raymond Russell Arnell and Iva Ellen Whipple Arnell. He married Jean Carol Rick on December 20, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Rockwell Collins for more than 33 years, retiring in 1983. Sam was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, the American Legion Marion Post #298, the Cedar Rapids Bowling Association, the Cedar Rapids Horseshoe League, was past member of the American Rose Society, and a member of the V.F.W. #788. He served in the Army Air Corp during WW II. Sam was an avid Cubs fan and a very talented artist.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Samantha Alivia Ahrens, infant daughter of Amy Ullrick and Tim Ahrens of Marion, was born silently into this world on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Private family services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2004, in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. Howard Chapman of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion officiating. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include her parents Amy Ullrick and Tim Ahrens of Marion, grandparents, Cynthia Ullrick of Hiawatha, Robert and Glenda Ullrick of Ottumwa, and William and Linda Ahrens of Marion, and a great-grandmother Jeanine Norris of Pratt, Kansas.
A little time in our arms, forever in our hearts. Goodbye our precious Samantha, until we meet again.

Dallas Abernathy

Dallas Abernathy, 93, of 1535 6th Ave SE, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at home following a long illness. Services at 11 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Dr. James H. Chesnutt of the First Christian Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Friday.
Survivors include his wife of 71 and a half years Rose "LaVerne", a daughter Margery Alderman of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, Richard Alderman II of Cedar Rapids, Ronald Alderman and wife Marlene of Dallas, Texas, Diane Abernathy of Columbus, Ohio, and Jord Tanner and wife Kelly of Kelowna, Canada, and seven great-grandchildren, Jamaal Allison, Leila Alderman, Elisa Alderman, John Dallas Alderman, Kirsten Tanner, and twin great-granddaughters Emma and Mia Tanner. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gary Dallas Abernathy, five brothers, one sister, three half sisters, and three half brothers.
Dallas was born August 10, 1910, in rural Benton county, Iowa, to Jacob and Emma Van Dyke Abernathy. He married Rose "LaVerne" Dixon on October 1, 1932 in Vinton, Iowa. Dallas was a welder at Link Belt/FMC for 24 years and after retirement worked at the Guaranty Bank and Trust for 9 years. He was a member, trustee, and deacon at First Christian Church, and also a member of the FMC retirees.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Beverly ''Jean'' Anderson
Born in Delhi, Iowa on September 29, 1935
Departed on June 7, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Beverly 'Jean' Anderson, 68, of 5449 Wyoming Dr. SW. died at Silver Pines Assisted Living and Retire on Monday, June 7, 2004 after a long illness. Private family graveside services at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Per Jean's request there will be no visitation. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Van Etten and husband, Tom, Wendy Wharton and her husband, Mike, a son Kevin and his wife, Cathy all of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Shirley, Mildred, Helen and Harriett and a brother, Hank. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Becky, Andy, Cathy, Missy, Jessi, Debbie and Tracy and two great grandchildren, Alex and Kalia and one on the way and her dear friend and neighbor, Audrey. She was preceded in death by a son, Ted.
Jean was born on Sept. 29, 1935 in Delhi, the daughter of Charles and Juanita Bartlett Vesey. She married Roger L. Anderson on July 20, 1952 in Delhi. He died in 1990.The family would like to thank Dr. Ghosh and his staff for their kindness and compassionate care.

Edward J. Altorfer
Born in Roanoke, Illinois on December 30, 1914

Edward J. Altorfer, 89, of 2115 First Ave SE, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in his home following a sudden illness. Private services will be held with Rev. Herbert Knudten officiating. Entombment in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Friday.
Survivors include four sons Donald and wife Patricia of Springfield, Illinois, James and wife Sharon, Bruce and wife Janis, and Richard and wife Candy all of Cedar Rapids, a brother John H. Altorfer of Tucson, Arizona, ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a sister Katherine Swain, and a brother Richard.
Edward was born December 30, 1914 in Roanoke, Illinois to Silas and Elizabeth Sauder Altorfer. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1936. He married Betty Fitton on June 22, 1940 in Peoria, Illinois. She died June 19, 2002. He founded Altorfer Inc. a Caterpillar dealership in 1957, and was presently serving as Chairman Emeritus of the Board. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Country Club, Elks Club, served on the Cedar Rapids Airport Commission, and was a member of the Church of the Red Rock in Sedona, Arizona.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
