Kathryn Ilien Metzger Bowen, 87, of Bickford Cottage in Marion died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Bickford Cottage following a brief illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday from 1PM to 4PM.
Surviving are a daughter, Sylvia Copler Daryl of Marion; a sister, Leona Lange of McGregor; a brother, John Metzger of Shellsburg; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Metzger of Greenwood, SC and Mable Bowen of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold in 1999; a sister, Louise Lockwood; and two brothers, Dwayne Metzger and Glenn Metzger.
Kathryn was born December 5, 1920 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Harry and Sylvia Petrick Metzger. She married Harold E. Bowen on August 16, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. Kathryn worked at Quaker Oats after high school. After her marriage, she and her husband farmed in the area until 1994. She was a 4-H Garden Club leader for several years. Kathryn was a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Farm Bureau.
Kathryn was a very special woman who will be missed dearly. Those experiencing her loss will remember her smile and sense of humor. Kathryn enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, jigsaw puzzles, card games, gardening and her family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established.

Bertha Irene Briles
Born on May 21, 1914
Departed on January 12, 2008. Resided in Marion, IA.

Bertha Irene Briles, 93, 2430 28th Ave, Marion died Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Westridge Care Center following a long illness. Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Daniel Wiersema of Immanuel Baptist Church will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5PM to 7PM.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Etzel Robert of Marion; a son, Ralph Briles Jr. Jean of Marion; nine grandchildren, Gary Etzel, Steve Etzel Teresa, Kim Etzel-Maldonado John, Janine Wagner Dave, Maureen Denny Brian, Karla Park Gary, Paul Briles Doreen, Chris Edgerton Ross and Andy Briles Renee; 20 great grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Harris of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph in 1997; three sisters; and three brothers.
Bertha was born May 21, 1914 in Cedar Valley, Iowa the daughter of Earl D. and Meta Theilen Harris. She married Ralph E. Briles, Sr. on October 25, 1933 in Cedar Rapids. She worked for Wilson and Co., then for Dearborn Brass for 15 years. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Bertha was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Luke’s.

Betty Bunday
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on October 29, 1929
Departed on February 24, 2008. Resided in Monroe, WI.

Service: Saturday, March 1, 2008

Betty "Jackie" Bunday, 78, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died February 24, 2008 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin after a short illness. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm, Friday, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Services: 10 am, Saturday, at Christ Church Presbyterian by Rev. Karen Downey Beals and Rev. Ron Lewis. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include three daughters, Michele Nungesser of Gratiot, WI, Shari Bunday of Chesapeake, VA, and Sandy Bunday-Cowan of Lake Worth, FL.

Also surviving are two sons-in-law, Beri Nungesser and Rob Cowan; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and her canine companion, Teddy.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Betty Bernice Bunday was born October 29, 1929 to Joseph Jacque and Marjorie Dreyhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married Robert Bunday on June 18, 1950 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Jackie loved animals and enjoyed life.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Mae L. Bordwell
Born in LaCyne, KS on November 5, 1917
Departed on March 14, 2008. Resided in Council Bluffs, IA.

Mae L. Bordwell, 90, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at the Amelia House in Council Bluffs, on Friday, March 14, 2008, after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William Harnish. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 pm today at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.

Mae is survived by a daughter, Janice O'Grady of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Opal Inman of Redlands, CA, and Thelma Paine of Plymouth, MN; a sister-in-law, Mattie Williams of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Erin Steve Sayer of Dunbar, NE and Kahleen Tim Kosmacek of Persia; 2 great granddaughters, Sophie and Brenna Sayer; and her special nieces and nephews.

Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, her parents, and a brother, Ralph Williams

Mae was born on November 5, 1917 in LaCyne, KS to John and Cecil Williams. She attended school in South Dakota. Mae married Vern M. Bordwell on June 12, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. He died on November 5, 1993. She worked at several Cedar Rapids restaurants and was employed by the Cedar Rapids Public School System as well as Sears.

A memorial fund has been established for the American Heart Association.

Duane H. Danford
Born in Manchester, Iowa on January 18, 1936
Departed on August 11, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Duane H. Danford, 75, of 931 Old Marion Road NE died Thursday August 11, 2011 at his home after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Anne, three daughters, Teresa Starr and Cynthia Kuehn both of Washington State, and Julie Danford of Cedar Rapids; a son Randy Danford of Arkansas; two step-sons, Jordan Durow of Cedar Rapids and Courtney Durow of Colorado, a step-daughter, Alexis Durow of Colorado and a sister, Bonnie Lindsay of Manchester. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
Duane was born on January 18, 1936 in Manchester, the son of Glen and Nancy Worth Danford. He married Mary Anne Durow in November of 1984. Duane worked at Cryovac and retired from there after more than 43 years of service.
He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, camping and the time he spent with his beloved family especially his grand and great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established in Duane’s name.

Ellen Anna Benda

Ellen A. Benda, 83, 835 27th Street NE died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the care center following a long illness. Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Voels will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
Surviving are a son, Stephen W. Benda of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters-in law, Clara Samek and Ella Samek both of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vernon; and two brothers, Robert and Paul Samek.
Ellen Anna Samek was born May 20, 1924 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Joseph and Amelia Chada Samek. She married Vernon W. Benda on September 4, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. Ellen worked at Armstrong's Department Store for 14 years as a switchboard operator. She was a 60 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and a 50 year member of the Social Order of Beauceant.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or to Camp Courageous.

John Paul Beers
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on April 4, 1955
Departed on June 29, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

John Paul Beers, 53, of Cedar Rapids, died June 29, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 12:00 PM. Pastor Troy Weigert of Blair Ridge Baptist Church will officiate. Private Interment will be at Linn Grove Cemetery, Springville.

Survivors include his mother Dorothy Beers of Marion, a sister Paula Pike of Cedar Rapids, sister in law Pat Beers of Wisconsin, four aunts, one uncle, four nieces, four nephews, seven great nieces, five great nephews, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Paul F. Beers, a sister Sandra John Brauer, a brother Frank Beers, six aunts, ten uncles, and five cousins.

John Paul Beers was born April 4, 1955 in Cedar Rapids the beloved son of Paul F. and Dorothy Pollet Beers. He attended Kennedy High School, and later attended Faith Bible College. He served in the United States Army, and received a medical discharge. He worked as a self employed carpenter. He was a member of Blair Ridge Baptist Church. He loved being a son, brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin, to whom God had given to him. John loved fellowship and working at church and going to counseling meetings.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in John's honor are made to The Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
