Germaine M. 'Gerry' Friedman, 76, of 4534 Navajo Dr. NE, died Wednesday, January 15, 2003, in her home following a long illness. Services at 10 AM Saturday in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rev. David Schatz will officiate. Entombment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday with a wake service beginning at 7 PM.
Survivors include her husband Emmett, eight children, Steve and wife Sue of Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, Chuck and wife Mary Kay of Cedar Rapids, Ann DeGroodt and husband Larry of St. Louis, Missouri, Doug and wife Denise of Geneva, Illinois, Don of Cedar Rapids, Jeff and wife Laura of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Jean Philipp and husband Brian of Swansea, Illinois, June Tipton and husband James of Cedar Rapids, a sister Armella Kern and husband Eddie of Cedar Rapids, and two brothers Melvin Schuster and wife Rita of Dubuque, and Bob Schuster and wife Norma of Marion, Iowa, 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters Florence, Irene, and Leona, and three brothers Arnie, Elmer, and Ray.
Gerry was born October 19, 1926 in New Vienna, Iowa to John and Mary Wendler Schuster. She married Emmett E. Friedman on June 6, 1949 in New Vienna. For 17 years she worked as a cook in the St. Pius School Lunch program. She was a member of ST. Pius X Catholic Church, and the St. Ann Circle. She enjoyed quilting and doing embroidery, and family get-togethers. She was an excellent seamstress, homemaker, and cook, and loved to play Euchre. Germaine was a loving wife and the greatest Mom who will always be cherished and missed.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

David Gordon Feltes
Born in Peoria City, Illinois on July 16, 1940
Departed on February 13, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

David Gordon Feltes, 62, of 428 Memorial Dr. SE, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center after a brave and courageous battle with a multitude of illness's complicated by a heart transplant in March of 1998. Services with military honors at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include his wife Bettie, two daughters, Susan Miller and husband Scott of Minneapolis, Minn, and Julie Burnside and husband Michael of Cedar Rapids, three sons Mike McConnell of Iowa City, David McConnell and wife Ronda of Kentucky, and John McConnell and wife Mary of Cedar Rapids, 15 grandchildren, one brother Charles Feltes and wife Loren of Illinois, five sisters Mary Cooper of California, Sheila Krueger and husband Mike of Illinois, Judy O'Connell and husband Tim of California, Elizabeth Rossignuolo and husband Tony of Illinois, and Clare Walter of Indiana, and a foster sister Pat Sumner and husband Merl of Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Andrew.
David was born July 16, 1940 in Peoria City, Illinois to Gordon and Clare Petty Feltes. He married Bettie J. Mayfield on February 17, 1979 in Cedar Rapids. He was in partnership with his wife Bettie at the Freeway Express Lounge. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and the Marion American Legion Post No 298. He is a past Exalted ruler of the Cripple Creek Elks No 316, Cripple Creek, Colorado and was active in the Cedar Rapids Elks club as the ENF chairman.
David will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and all who knew and loved him. His grandchildren too small to remember him will be told of his love for them.

Robert J. Fauchier
Born in Cedar Rapids on August 15, 1922
Departed on March 3, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Robert J. Fauchier, 80, 1300 36th St. S.E., died peacefully Monday at Mercy Medical Center after a 3 year - long battle with lung cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at All Saint's Catholic Church by Rev. David O'Conner officiating. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 pm. on Wednesday, where a parish vigil service will be given at 6 p.m.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Jean Koob Lynch Fauchier, son Stephen and wife Jean of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, daughter in law, Jenni Carter Fauchier of Omaha, Nebraska, step children: Dennis and Becki Lynch of Cedar Rapids, Kevin and Marie Lynch of Mt. Vernon, Monica and Rick Harper of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Lottie Fauchier, his first wife, Mercedes Herring Fauchier, his brother, Jess Fauchier and his first son Richard Fauchier.

He was born on August 15, 1922 in Cedar Rapids and was married to Jean Koob Lynch on May 10, 1969 in Cedar Rapids. Robert helped his parents operate the Fauchier Family Grocery on Center Point Road N.E. He then worked for the Overhead Door Company for 27 years before retiring. He also helped pick apples at Koob's Orchard with his mother in law, Clara. He also did volunteer work for local charities.

Robert was a quiet man who enjoyed fishing, dancing, taking care of his home and yard, feeding and watching birds year around. He loved and was loved by his extended family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Doris D. Fleck
Born in Churdan, Iowa on October 21, 1927
Departed on August 14, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Doris D. Fleck, 75, of 2455 10th Ave SW, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003, at West Ridge Care Center of cancer. Services at 3 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dr. William Jamison will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Saturday.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years Keith, a daughter Kristen Nudo of San Diego, California, three sons Jeff Fleck and wife Luann, and Dudley Fleck all of Cedar Rapids, and David Fleck and wife Deneen of Toddville, Iowa, six grandchildren, Keith, Nikki, Keaton, Khaylor, Shawna, and Peter, and a niece Nickie Waddell of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Ella Roelf.
Doris was born October 21, 1927 in Churdan, Iowa to Donald and Iona Stotts Dudley. She married Keith T. Fleck on March 23, 1948 in Des Moines. Doris was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend to all who knew her. She was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church. She really enjoyed and followed racing, the Iowa Hawkeye's, painting, and anything her family and grandchildren were involved in. Doris was definitely the glue to the family and was always there when a need arose. Her efforts will never be forgotten. She generously supported numerous local and national charities for a long period of time. She truly believed in helping those charities that she believed were genuine, honest and sincere. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Greggory Alan Fisher
Born in Cedar Rapids on October 10, 1958
Departed on November 29, 2003. Resided in Atkins, IA.

Greggory Alan Fisher 45 of Atkins, passed away unexpectedly Sat. Nov. 29, 2003 in Cedar Rapids. Memorial services at 3 PM on Wed. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Reverend William B. Harnish will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Mausoleum Columbarium. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 9 PM on Tuesday.
Gregg is survived by his wife, Sandy of Atkins. Four daughters, Jennifer 20 of Iowa City, Stephanie 16, Amanda 14, Brittney 11 at home. His mother Karen Fisher Cassady and stepfather Ron Cassady of Cedar Rapids. His Father Walter A. Fisher Jr. of Cedar Rapids. His brothers Skip Fisher and wife Eileen, of Cedar Rapids, Eric Fisher and wife Teresa of Tucson, Arizona, Walter A. Fisher III and his wife Lisa of Cedar Rapids, and a sister Connie Petersen and husband Roger of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Gregg was born October 10, 1958 in Cedar Rapids to Walter Fisher and Karen Kramer Fisher. He married Sandra Filson September 26, 1982. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1977. He attended Kirkwood Community College. Gregg worked at General Mills for 12 years and was most recently unemployed.
Gregg dearly loved his children and was very talented with computers...creating several programs and innovations. He, also, collected vintage Pontiac GTO's and J.F.K. memorabilia.
Gregg will be greatly missed by his family and friends who love him dearly.
We would like to add that it is important that families stick together and tell each other of any problems that they can't handle, because help is always near. Please don't bottle things inside because it leaves us with the feeling of "what if".
The Lord has Gregg in his hands now and will give him the comfort that he couldn't find here on Earth! Gregg, we will always love you.

Peter J. Funcke
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on October 27, 1903
Departed on January 18, 2004. Resided in Marion, IA.

Peter J. Funcke, 100, of Willow Gardens died there on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004 after a brief illness. Services at 1 PM on Wed. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday where there will be a vigil service at 6:30 PM.
Survivors include two sons, Jack and his wife, Marcia of Cedar Rapids and Dr. William and his wife, Verna of Bever Dam, WI. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, two-step grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Ann and Kevin Bader. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Kent and two sisters, Katherine and Barbara.
Peter was born on Oct. 27, 1903 in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Sarah Hughes Funcke. He married Leona M. Prochaska on Aug. 26, 1925 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1998. Peter was a police office for the Cedar Rapids Police Dept., retiring in 1952. He witnessed the squad's Model A Fords being outfitted with the first 2-way radios and winning many sharp shooting awards. He was the oldest living former Cedar Rapids police officer. He then worked at Collins Radio, retiring in 1966. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Policeman's Protective Association. Throughout his life, Peter set the standard for a family legacy of honesty, integrity, kindness, gentleness and faith. Peter rode his bicycle daily until the age of 92, he loved to work with wood and play golf. In his teens he was painted by the artist, Grant Wood and was famous for his corny jokes. Memorial donation may be given to St. Matthew Catholic Church in Peters name. 'Godspeed Grandpa Pete' We love you forever.

Harold O. Flatjord
Born in New Hampton, Iowa on November 10, 1929
Departed on March 23, 2004. Resided in Hiawatha, IA.

Harold O. Flatjord, 74, of 102 Fisher St., Hiawatha, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in his home following a sudden illness. A Eucharist Celebration of Harold's life will be held at 10:30 AM Monday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Rev. T. Edwards Breed and Vicar Jon Rollefson will officiate. Entombment with military rites in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Sunday and at the church after 9:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife Beulah, four children, Susan Gary Hennick, Eric Kristi Maiers Flatjord, David Fiance' Allison Eisele all of Cedar Rapids, and MarciaMike Skow of Hiawatha, grandchildren, Jeremiah and Matthew Flatjord, Amanda and Tim Hennick, and Brock and Hannah Skow, a brother Neal Lorraine Flatjord of New Hampton, Iowa, a sister Bernis Kenny Geving of McGregor, Minnesota, a sister-in-law Emma Jean Flatjord of Lawler, Iowa, several nieces and nephews, and his best buddy Hank. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James and a brother Raymond.
Harold was born November 10, 1929 in New Hampton, Iowa to Olaf and Hannah Amble Flatjord. He married Beulah Morarend on November 16, 1957 in Guttenberg, Iowa. He was an inspector at Rockwell-Collins from 1960 to 1989. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, VFW Post 4069 in Alta Vista, Iowa, and the American Legion Post No 298 in Marion. He was a former volunteer fireman in Hiawatha, and former Eagles Club member. He served in the U.S. Marines Corps during the Korean War.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling throughout the country especially to Las Vegas, working the farmers market, going to sales, and always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends.
Harold will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established.
