Janet V. Funston, 68, of Cedar Rapids died October 2, 2007 in her home following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 6, 2007 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Rev. Perry Fruhling will officiate. Friends may call Friday, October 7, 2007 from 5 to 8 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The casket will be closed at all times per Janet's request. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years Stanley; her mother Vi Teslow of Decorah; children Kimberly Nikkel and husband Marty of Pella, Kari Ryder and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids, Dave Funston and wife Kelly of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Seth, Levi, Dylan, Zach, Eric, Nieve, Adria, and Grant; sisters Patricia Manness and husband Marvin of Barstow, CA, Susan Vondruska and husband George of Watersmeet, MI, Debra Moellers and husband Stan of Decorah, and Dianne Story and husband Vince of Billings, Montana; brother Gary Teslow and wife Sue of Decorah; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Francis Teslow, a daughter Sherri Kay Funston, a son Kevin Scott Funston, and a grandson Cody Nikkel.

Janet Vernelle Teslow Funston was born August 7, 1939 in Decorah, Iowa the beloved daughter of Francis and Vi Tollefson Teslow. She was united in marriage to Stanley S. Funston on July 19, 1958 in Decorah, Iowa. She was employed as the office manager for Winslow House Care Center from 1978 to 2000. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, TTT, and numerous card clubs. She enjoyed gardening, genealogy, traveling with her husband, and above all time spent with her family and her beloved grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her dearly.

Memorial Donations in Janet's honor may be made to the Hope Lodge, 411 2nd Street, NW, Rochester, Minnesota 55901.

Dr. Anne E. Fisher
Born in Muscatine, IA on June 18, 1956
Departed on October 2, 2007. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Dr. Anne E. Fisher M.D., 51, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday Oct. 2, 2007 at her home after an extended illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories where friends may call after Noon on Friday. Sr. Therese Pedretti and Sr. Nancy Hoffman will officiate. There will be a private inurnment at a later date.

Survivors include her father, Don Fisher and stepmother, Sharon, an aunt, Elayne Fisher, cousins, Martin, Mindy, Melanie, Aimee, Ann, a special friend, Allen Yarowsky as well as numerous other friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy.

Anne was born on June 18, 1956 in Muscatine, the daughter of Don and Dorothy Fisher. She grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She went to college at the University of Michigan and later to Northwestern University. For two years she worked at Northwestern University Research Center in Chicago, IL. Anne graduated with an M.D. from St. Luke's Presbyterian Medical School and did her internship and residency at St. Joseph's in Chicago. Later Anne came to live in Cedar Rapids.

With her healing hands and compassionate heart, Anne kept involved in the healing ministry. Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center felt like home to her and many were touched by her healing presence there. In her last days, when she barely had breath to talk, she was still helping her friends find healing.
Anne loved life and all creation. She was especially fond of her cats. Anne was deeply grateful to family and friends for all their love and support. She expressed special thanks to Sr. Therese Pedretti FSPA, Home Instead Senior Care and Mercy Hospice. A memorial fund has been established in Anne's name.

Racine H. Fitzgerald
Born in Callaway County, MO on July 5, 1923
Departed on December 10, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Racine Fitzgerald, 87, died on December 10, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Services at 1 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Reverend John Louk of Salem United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 12 PM on Tuesday.

Surviving are her children, Charles (Diann) Fitzgerald of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Teresa) Fitzgerald of Waukee; 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; and a very close sister-in-law and friend, Eunice Stanley of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband Orville in 1981, a son, Dennis, and a brother-in-law Martin and wife, Mary.

Racine was born July 5, 1923 in Callaway County, MO. She was raised by Thomas and Elizabeth Salmon in Cedar Rapids. She attended and graduated from McKinley High School. Racine was united in marriage to Orville Fitzgerald on September 12, 1942. Racine was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and their sewing circle. She worked at Square D Company, Charter Coaches, for several years where she planned and guided tours, and the Eastern Iowa Airport. Racine had many hobbies including cake decorating, square dancing, sewing, and traveling. She took great pride in bringing happiness to people as Jingle Jenny the Clown at St. Luke’s Hospital. She also volunteered for hospice at Mercy Medical Center. She was a member and officer of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 788 and was an active member of New Encounters. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Janet M. Freese
Born in Stuart, Iowa on September 30, 1914
Departed on December 15, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Janet M. Freese, 96, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of the Meth-Wick Community and a resident of Springville died Wednesday December 15, 2010 at Heritage after a long illness. Services at 11 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 10 AM on Monday. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Irene (Fred) Horn and Elizabeth Ann (Kaj) Jensen all of Cedar Rapids; one son, Roy Melvin (Deb) Freese Jr. of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Thelma Baxter of Nampa, Idaho and Geraldine Lynn of San Diego, California. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Tricia, Monica, Brian, Katrina and Jared; three great grandchildren, Lucas, C.J. and Harrison and a former daughter-in –law, Susan Freese of Springville. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Janet was born on September 30 1914 in Stuart, the daughter of Loren and Nancy Craven. She married Roy M. Freese on February 28, 1939 in Oskaloosa. He died in 1983. Janet graduated from the University of Iowa and was an elementary school teacher, retiring from the North Linn School District. She was a member of the Springville Presbyterian Church, and the Bell Choir at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She enjoyed music, playing cards, gardening, travel and in later years taught herself to bowl and play golf. Janet was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorial donations may be given to the Springville Presbyterian Church or to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Lucian Jerry Fox
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on January 5, 1922
Departed on December 16, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Lucian “Jerry” Fox, 88, of Summit Point in Marion passed away December 16, 2010 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a long illness. Per Jerry’s request there will be no visitation or service. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynn (Gordon) Bowser of Marion and Leslie (Timothy) Carlson of Cedar Rapids; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Jean and his mother Vivian Fox.

Jerry was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion where donations may be given in lieu of flowers.

Condolences may be sent to 1455 Maplecrest Dr. in Marion 52302.

Ione Marion Freeman
Born in New Salem, ND on May 8, 1918
Departed on April 5, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Ione K. Freeman, 92, of Cedar Rapids, peacefully passed away after a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Heather Hayes. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include children, Douglas Freeman of Culver City, CA, Gordon Freeman of Marion, and Richard (Penny) Freeman and Ronald (Marie) Freeman, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Ann Freeman of Marion; and grandchildren, Jeffrey Freeman, Gordon Horne, Adam, Kyle, and Ashley Freeman, Megan Trumm and Lauren Freeman, and Audrianne and Garrett Freeman. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and brother, Lloyd Knain.

Ione was born May 8, 1918 to Joseph and Ida Knain in New Salem, ND. She moved to Cedar Rapids after WWII to pursue a teaching career with her husband, James W. Freeman in the Cedar Rapids School System. She was a past secretary for the Cedar Rapids Education Association, a previous member of the Cedar Rapids Country Club, and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Ione enjoyed a good game of bridge or golf along with gardening. She was an avid sports fan of football, basketball and baseball games. Ione was expert at needlepoint with numerous beautiful creations.

Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church.
