Lewis E. Huston, 75, of 1003 30th St. NE died Monday March 17, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a sudden illness. Services at 10 AM on Thursday at Salem United Methodist Church. Rev. Linda Bibb will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Wed. The casket will be closed at the Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, two daughters, Linda Hudson of Center Point, Katherine Sauer of Cedar Rapids, two sons, John of Oconamowac, Wis., James of Marion, two sisters, Bertha Shinn of Lancaster, Wis. and Edith Cook of Columbia, Mo. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a niece, Delores Hoye and a nephew, Marshall Grimm both of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Augustine.
Lewis was born on May 17, 1927 in Monfort, WI., the son of Frank and Anna Pierce Huston. He married Patricia B. Whitson on April 16, 1949 in Racine, WI. Lewis was a foreman in maintenance at Rockwell- Collins for 28 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and Boys In Blue Ministries. He was a very active volunteer in the community and served in the Navy during WWII. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Salem United Methodist Church in Lewis' name.

Marilyn J. Haughenbury
Born in Davenport, Iowa on May 21, 1946
Departed on July 3, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Marilyn J. Haughenbury, 57, of 2401 G Ave NE, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Memorial services at 10 AM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Deacon Phil Saunders of St. Matthews Catholic Church will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday, and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include a son Chad Haughenbury and wife Casey stationed with the US Airforce in Fairbanks, Alaska, a daughter Amy Sanborn and husband Symon of Cedar Rapids, a sister Karen White and husband David of Cedar Rapids, a brother Richard Kleineck of Oxford Junction, Iowa, two grandchildren, Forrest Sanborn and Autumn Mary Haughenbury, and a new grandchild to be born in January of 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marilyn was born May 22, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa to Robert and Mary Peckosh Kleineck. She graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1964, and from Paris Academy in Cedar Rapids in 1965. She was a receptionist at Rockwell-Collins for 17 years retiring in 2001.
A memorial fund has been established.

Ervin Henry Herren
Born in Millersburg on June 10, 1922
Departed on July 9, 2003. Resided in Anamosa Care Center, IA.

Ervin Henry Herren, 81. of the Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa formerly of 220 14th St. in Marion, where he had lived for 55 years, died at the Care Center on Wed. July 9, 2003 from complications following a stroke. Services at 11 AM on Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion. Rev. Thomas Hedtke will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the Church after 10 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise, who is a resident of Willow Gardens in Marion, a son, Billy and his wife, Linda of Whittier, two daughters, Pamela Sweeney and her husband, Dan of Stone City, Janet Graham and her husband, Roger of Johannesburg, South Africa, a brother, Milton of Lisbon and a sister, Velma Ginger Swanson of Topsfield, Mass. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Ervin was born on June 10, 1922 in Millersburg, the son of Benhard and Minnie Harms Herren. Ervin worked for Northwestern Bell as a switchman retiring from there after 35 years of service. Ervin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion. He enjoyed gardening, especially his roses and cactus. He enjoyed fishing, polka music and playing his harmonica and button accordion. Memorial donations may be given to the National M.S. Society, Iowa Chapter or a charity of the donor's choice.

Eldon Marvin Holten
Born on February 10, 1935
Departed on July 15, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Service: Friday, July 18, 2003
Eldon "Al" Marvin Holten, 68, 5031 Harbet Ave NW died Monday July 14, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Turner West Funeral Home. The Rev. David Young will officiate.
Surviving in addition to his wife Katherine are two sons, Carl Holten and wife Sherri and Arlan Holten and wife Michelle all of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Sue Holten of Center Point, and Paula Beltz of Marion; two brothers, Howard Holten and Martin Holten both of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Marie Frana of Decorah; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Eldon was born February 10, 1935 in Calmar the beloved son of Martin and Alma Hoff Holten. He married Katherine Anderson on April 2, 1956 in Marion. He was a power truck driver for Cherry Burrell from 1965 until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the UAW Local #1024 for 28 years, and the Moose Lodge. Eldon's hobbies included gardening, woodworking, camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards, and drinking beer.
A memorial fund has been established.

Jean E. Williamson Hammill
Born in Britt, Iowa on January 28, 1920
Departed on July 31, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Jean E. Williamson Hammill, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, August 31, at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Services at 1 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner of the First United Methodist Church in Marion will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Jean was born January 28, 1920, in Britt, Iowa, to Harry J. and Pearl Selig Williamson. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1937. She received a scholarship to Coe College and completed the college's teacher education program. She played clarinet in the Coe Women's Band and worked as a reporter for The Cosmos, the school newspaper. After graduation, Jean taught fourth and firth grades in Central City, Iowa, for two years.
She married Robert Louis Hammill on May 15, 1943, in Carmel, California, while her husband served in the Army at Fort Ord. For the remainder of World War II, Jean worked at Collin's Radio in Cedar Rapids.
After raising three children, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Cedar Rapids School District for 21 years. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Malta Chapter No. 415. She was named a lifetime member in 1991. Jean twice served at the star point of Esther.
She was an active member of the Linn County Democratic Party and served as a member of her precinct election board for 28 years.
Jean was a member of the PTA at Fillmore, Roosevelt, and Jefferson schools. She served one term as president of the Fillmore PTA. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Campfire Girl leader. She taught Sunday school at Olivet Presbyterian Church when her children were young.
Jean enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family was always her top priority.
Those remaining to honor her memory include son and daughter-in-law Walt and Jean M. Hammill of Marion; daughter Carol Hammill of Maquoketa; son Matt Hammill of Bettendorf; and two grandchildren, Rob Hammill of Hanover, New Hampshire, and Kim Hammill of Iowa City. Survivors also include sisters-in-law Virginia Lebkisher of Vancouver, Washington, and Betty Hammill Triplett of Whitefish, Montana; three nephews; and two cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, her parents, and a brother, Jack Williamson.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Alberta Mae Hartgrave

Alberta Mae Hartgrave, 67, of 3635 Crestwood Dr. NW, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, in University Hospital in Iowa City, following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Tuesday in Salem United Methodist Church. Rev. Linda Bibb will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the church after 9:30 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include three sons Dan Hartgrave and wife Tina, Doug Hartgrave, and Dennis Hartgrave and wife Tammy, all of Cedar Rapids, her mother Edyth Simmons of Marion, a sister Ora Lee Hollingsworth of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Kieth Simmons and wife Jerreldene of Van Horne, and Jerry Simmons and wife Laura of Grove City, Ohio, four grandchildren, 2 bonus grandchildren, and one bonus great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father, two brothers Dickie McAtee and Craig Simmons and a sister Regina Anderson.
Alberta was born July 29, 1936 in Iowa City to Albert Dean and Edyth Mae McAtee Simmons. Alberta was an accountant at Lefebure for 27 years. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where she was the Sunday School Treasurer. She, also, was a hostess for Internet games.
A memorial fund has been established.

Ann M. Hughes

Ann M. Hughes, 90, of 856 19th Street SE, died Monday, September 8, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center, following a long illness. Services at 10 AM Wednesday in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Msgr. Karl Glovik officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include two sons Donald Hughes and wife Bonnie of Mt. Vernon, and David Hughes and wife Mary of Cedar Rapids, two sisters Virginia Dyson and Margaret Montross both of Cedar Rapids, five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Richard, and a brother James.
Ann was born February 1, 1913 in Cedar Rapids to Patrick and Frances Lastuvka Hollingsworth. She married Robert L. Hughes on January 26, 1931 in Iowa City, Iowa. He died in 1952. She worked as a calibrator at Square D for 23 years. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Fern M. Heck
Born in Brooklyn, Iowa on April 29, 1930

Fern M. Heck, 73, a resident of St. Luke's Living Center West died there Wednesday, December 3, 2003, following a long illness. Memorial services will be held at 10 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Steve Hindman Chaplain of St. Luke's Living Center West will officiate. Inurnment in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Fern's family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM on Friday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.Survivors include three daughters Cheryl Ayers and husband Cliff, Linda Cooley, and De Ann Brown and husband Randy, two sons Kenneth Heck and wife Bonnie and William Heck and wife Lori all of Cedar Rapids, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Ronald Wheeler, son-in-law Randy Cooley, and a granddaughter.Fern was born April 29, 1930 in Brooklyn, Iowa to Earl and Mabel Mowrey Wheeler. She married Dean K. Heck on July 6, 1949 in Cedar Rapids. He died June 6, 1982. Fern was a homemaker and had worked as a waitress.Memorial contributions may be made to Amenity Hospice.
